Do not recommend; very bad experience, had starter replaced, said it was under warranty, took it back after a few months later due to starter not working properly the mechanic stated vehicle needed new pulleys and and new belt to get it fixed paid over $500, when picking up vehicle that same day the starter did the exact same problem took it back to nicks auto and after two days they had taken to evaluate the vehicle mechanic finally said the flywheel needed replaced and would cost over $700 to repair, I believe they misdiagnosed it in the first place I was not happy, took it to another shop they diagnosed it quickly, repaired it in one day and haven't had any problems since. my experience was a headache at nicks auto,I would caution be very careful when dealing with them if you do. read more

I brought my car in to fix the strut along with the tire. They kept my car for 4 months (not exaggerating) "waiting on a part". After countless phone calls, they finally told me they could fix my car but my insurance wasn't going to give them enough money and wanted me to pay the difference. I ended up going and picking up my car, telling them I didn't want them to do anything to it anymore and i'd take it somewhere else, they ended up billing my insurance anyway and banking the money for work they didn't even do. So this just happened, called to get a quote for a few issues about my car and when I was asked about the engine I told the young lady what size engine I have and proceeded to argue with me that what I have is wrong compared to what she has in her system, finally I told her what it was (even though it was still the wrong size) and hung up on me. ill never do business with this company read more

Honest, affordable, and great service. Found this place cause Google has them rated at 4.5 Stars. It's very hard to find a mechanic you can trust but as a customer I recommend this place. I've brought 3 different cars here. They only replace parts that need replacing and every time I call around to shop their quotes they've always been the lowest price. Most of these low reviews are from people who let their cars sit at Nick's without fixing them and get upset when Nick's is trying to clean up the lot for paying customers. You can bring your vehicle here and trust you won't be taken advantage of. They will shoot straight with you. read more

I had power steering go out and had my car towed to Nick's a couple of months ago. It took them over 3 weeks to get it fixed after claiming it would only take them 4 days. The updates they provided me showed they had complete incompetence of the relatively simple task. They were essentially impossible to get a hold of and would not return calls ever. After finally completing the job my power steering went out again after less than a month and when I returned to get a refund they wouldn't even take my car in to fix it again and basically told me to leave. Would recommend any other mechanic in Lubbock over this one. read more

*Update* so after i was over charged on the parts the car started leaking again and they told me they will only warranty the parts not the labor so they want me to spend another $275 to fix the problem that they didnt fix in the first place. My son was in Lubbock for the weekend and after getting gas to head back to Austin Monday morning his 2012 Mazda 3 wouldn't start. An acquaintance suggested we have it towed to Nick's to have it fixed. First Nick's said they would be able to get him in and out quickly but by the end of the day Monday they had not gotten to it. By the end of the day Tuesday they had only ordered a battery. They also said his battery cable was corroded and they would repair that. He finally got the car back Wednesday morning and $195 later was able to get home. Fast forward to Friday (48 hours later) and he car wouldn't start again. Luckily this happened at home and I was able to check it out myself. Well, first the positive connector was covered with corrosion (2 days later?!?) and was also loose. I tried to tighten it but it wouldn't tighten and the clamp screw actually broke. So after buying a new terminal connector at O'Reilly's for $7 and putting it on myself, the car still wouldn't start. This is because the "repair" they did apparently involved cutting the cable running from the starter to the battery, presumably to cut out the corroded part, but the repair was a very poor, ineffective crimp job covered by electrician's tape! When I replaced the terminal connector the cable came out of the crimp job completely and that's how I discovered what they had done to "repair" it!! I've never felt so taken advantage of by a mechanic as what happened at Nick's Automotive and now I'm also questioning whether there was ever anything wrong with the battery in the first place! $195 snow job! I'll never take a car back to Nick's Automotive and certainly won't recommend them given the time they took after promising quick turnaround and the poor work they did along with a very strongly suspected unnecessary battery replacement. I now have the car at my trusted mechanic in Austin so that the battery cable can be properly replaced instead of poorly "repaired". Very disappointed!!! Zero stars if I could. read more

The power steering went out on our truck. Nick's said it was the power steering pump. We approved the repairs to be done. Once complete, we went to pay them and got the key, but were unable to pick it up until after hours on a Friday. When we picked it up there was a terrible squealing noise, that was not previously present. First thing Monday morning we dropped it back off. We were told that this was an unrelated issue, and that the cause was the alternator & tensioner (estimate repair was over $600 more). We declined the repairs, and replaced the alternator ourselves. This did not alleviate the problem. So we took it elsewhere for a second opinion. They told us that it was a pulley on the power steering pump that was pushed too far in, and charged us $150 to correct the original mistake. Nicks automotive was awesome, my car broke down and I had to get it towed. I towed through nicks and they simply added it on to the total instead of charging me right away. I towed my car to them yesterday. They knew what the problem was a few hours after I towed it to them. (the timing belt & some other stuff) and by 8 am they already called me and explained to me the issues and that the car was fixed! They charged a fair price, even with the tow included I paid less than what I paid at the dealership a few months earlier. Now my car is driving fine and I have peace of mind! Nicks is definitely the place to go. Close too, just off 34th and Indiana. I recommend this place to any confused college student like myself who doesn't know much about cars. 0 stars if I could. Ironic they live and grow off Lubbock being filled as a college town, but then they rip off a student paying for his own college. Multiply their quoted time by 4 and that's how long it will actually taken them. Spent 900 for a new compressor, receiver dryer and oraphus tube for me to drive back home 6 hours for it to not be working. The mechanic filled me up with freon and explain my truck holds 2.2Lbs and it only had 1Lb, so in less than two weeks I had lost 1.2Lbs of freon . Then told me that whoever worked on it last was negligent and left two paper clips in the "cycling on/off switch", in the positive and negative ports instead of using a connector or even asking me if I wanted to pay more and wait longer so it gets fixed. Instead he ignored it then refused to pay for the 2nd mechanic to fix his negligence. Luckily the new mechanic wrote it all down and documented how it was completely their fault so the BBB will have all the correct info. When I called for a compensation to at least cover the extra mechanic visit due to their negligence he refused and said I was "rude" because prior I was asking where my vehicle was at because I had dogs to tend to and they told me it would be ready days prior. Then proceeds to block my number so he thinks he won't have to cover the 200$ mechanic visit that was solely caused by their negligence. Its ok though cause he will be calling back very soon when the Better Business Bureau comes knocking. read more

It's hard to find an honest mechanic who wont use their position to make more money. Nick is honest and hardworking. I had a faulty break line. Nick was able to make the part himself and save me about $100. He also had it fixed it in a really timely manner (1 day). He is awesome and I will always be loyal to him. He does the best he can to get you the best deal. I'm really glad I took my friends recommendation! read more

I have used them 4 times for repairs within the last year Each time they have made the repair, charged a reasonable price, been communicative about what the did, etc. The place looks like a used car lot, but they do a good job of repairs. They have fixed two different problems on my A/C, replaced my headlights, and replaced a part on my truck. Recommend them. read more

This shop is the most honest shop I have been in. Nick is a great guy. I have taken many cars and trucks to him for repair. Each time he has called and informed me of what the nature of the problem is and told me a total cost. I have then taken the same automobile to another mechanic had things tested looked at for proper placement and parts needed and a cost of repair. Which was always higher then nicks price. Nick was always generous and kind. Gave me a ride to work or home when needed. I would highly recommend anyone to nicks auto. Now have been going here every time.
