Took my old truck here due to several issues with it. Was told that it was three problems and that it would be over $1000 to get it fixed. I decided to just let them fix one of the problems,other two problems they had diagnosed were impossible since it started and ran, not well, mind you but still started and ran. I get it back and nothing was touched under the hood. All the previous dust and dirt was still where it had been except on the air intake hoses, they charged me over $500 to replace the intake gaskets to fix the vacuum leak and the intake hadn't been touched, let alone removed. So I'll let everyone know that these people are crooked and don't do what they say they do! Bottom line is I'm not a wealthy person, I work hard for what little pay I get and I feel cheated by these people, and I feel like I must tell others just to warn them. read more

I dropped off my car to be serviced for a headlight and have my steering wheel straightened, but 2 days later i'm asked for $450 to fix my nonworking car horn. I politely declined and told them I would come pick my car up, and was charged $86 for them to tell me my car horn didn't work and not fix anything. Furthermore, it's clear they don't care one bit about customer service and are just looking for people to scam... in an economic time such as this!!! Disgraceful business. read more

I took my Dodge Challenger to replace my radiator. I was call that my vehicle was ready for pick up. I get there was not ready and mechanic was very rude because I showed up. Well finally vehicle was ready. So I decided to to take it out of town and notice they did not put clips back on the bottom covers underneath the radiator. It made so much noise. I had to get that fix due to laziness on their mechanic. I will not do business with them anymore. One thing they did very well was take my $700 without any problems. Found this top-notch shop thanks to my fellow Yelpers. These are honest guys. I was told my car would be completed same-day and it was, except they accidentally broke a sensor making the needed repair right before they closed for the evening. They immediately called me, let me know what was going on, and explained that they would be making it right, though they had to order the part. By 9am the next morning, I had a phone call that my car was ready. They wasted no time getting that sensor replaced once it came in that morning! Also, as a female, I think it's important to note that I was not hassled here... ever. They confirmed the problem I was having and repaired it without telling me the laundry list of other items that needed to be done "for my safety" like some of the shops and dealerships I have been to before in Dallas. None of that here, and I thought that was impressive and admirable. Cost was very fair. They were $100 more than an individual working out of his home (turnaround time of 2-3 days) and $175 cheaper than my Nissan dealership in Dallas. Given the very quick turnaround time, above-and-beyond hassle-free service, and quality work, I think their pricing was very fair. This is the best experience I've had with a shop in years. I wish I could give Pope 10 stars! I cannot describe how good it feels to go into an auto place and not feel cheated on price and services because I'm a girl. I have never felt that way here and it is awesome! Their prices are very fair, they are polite and professional, and I have never felt suckered into a service my car doesn't need. These guys are great, they fixed my a/c for a very reasonable price and then repaired it at no cost when it went out a month later due to a leak. They fixed my turn signal free of charge as well. Worst ever, I brought my car to this place because of the Yelp review. The car was squeeling when I turned the steering wheel. They told me that they woudl diagnose the problem in a couple of days. AFTER eight days and multiple phone calls I told them I wanted my car back. They told me that the power steering motor needed to be replaced. They replace it at a cost of $500. After I got it it back- THE PROBLEM WAS WORSE. Now I can barely steer the car. This place ripped me off- and they were incompetant. DO NOT GO HERE- go somewhere else- unless you want incompetant mechanic work. THE ABSOLUTE WORST mechanic I have ever visited. read more

I took my car into Pope Automotive based on a recommendation from a friend of a friend. I had been hearing some strange sound on occasion that I couldn't pinpoint. Another shop estimated my repairs at over $500. Took my car into Pope and they fit me into their seriously busy schedule. Drove my car around with me to try to pinpoint the sound, then kept it so they could locate the source and call me when ready to be fixed. I told them what the other shop had quoted to fix the problem and they said they had wayyyy overcharged me. All said and done Pope charged me $60 total. I chose this repair place based on the reviews but was sadly disappointed. I took a pick up in for an alignment after having new tires put on at another place that didn't do alignments. I was told that if I got the truck there when they opened at 7:30am they could do the work in about two hours. At 10am Justin told me they hadn't started on it but wanted to sell us a "balance and rotation", on tires that had been on the vehicle 2 days! Before looking at the vehicle Justin said that we probably had a split tire. He again tried to sell us a balance and rotation claiming that the tires were "terribly out of balance" and there was a bolt in a tire. He said that we also needed a new tire rod which they could do that day, I declined additional work. When we called at 1:30pm Justin said it was almost ready and would call us. He called at 2:40pm. When I picked the truck up there was a bright, shiny bolt in one of the rear tires and they said that they had balanced 3 of the tires because of some confusion, the guy I picked it up from said that Justin had told him that we wanted them balanced because we didn't trust the place we bought them (not true) and then told them to stop after they had done 3 tires. I took the truck back where I bought the tires to have them rebalanced and to remove the bolt because it was so rough when I got it back. I don't know about the rest of the crew at this place but Justin is a crook. He is what gives mechanics a bad name. read more

Pope Automotive is simply an excellent shop. Mr. Pope, Justin, and his entire team should be proud of their work, and Lubbock is fortunate to have such a fine business. I discovered Pope after doing some research on Lubbock shops on the Internet, and asking around at the local parts shops. I live in Houston, but my son lives in Lubbock, and I've been the one that generally deals with handling car maintenance issues. We had an emergency situation where another mechanic had incorrectly installed an engine part, and the installation failed. Mr. Pope and his team had the car towed, worked the vehicle into their already busy schedule, and assessed the situation. The failure slightly damaged the crankshaft (harmonic balancer issue). They studied the issue, consulted as a team, and came up with a solution that got my vehicle back on the road. Additionally, they went through the entire repair job from the other shop and discovered several more mild to moderate problems, and fixed them too. Last, they provided me a detailed, excellent write up that I'll be able to use to seek reimbursement from the first shop, and explained their findings to the other shop over the phone on my behalf. They'll be our shop from here forward. I cannot thank them enough. Great work, guys. read more

*WARNING DO NOT GO TO POPE AUTOMOTIVE * after my engine failed due to low oil pressure I hired pope automotive to find the cause of the oil failure fix it and rebuild the engine entirely. They threw many parts at the problem but said that they never did find what caused the problem. with 78 miles on the rebuilt engine it failed again due to low oil pressure and when they took it back they stated that the oil pick up tube was not checked and that it was because I rushed them they then stated that they wanted me to pay for repairs and provide them with a new block. The owner then Cursed me out over the phone and hung up on me when I explained that I had hired them to find the source and not just slap it together. The owner later agreed to at least pay for labor but I had to bring him a new engine block pay for machine work the tow to the shop and all parts. I agreed but after he had had the truck on site for 65 days and they still had not even started to rebuild the engine. I had to take my truck elsewhere and ive just got boxes of parts. He never would admit fault and attempted to fabricate many other issues that caused failure after i made it clear that I felt it was his negligence in the build and it was not my responsibility. The owner and his staff verbally assaulted me when I had to pick my vehicle up and even went digging through my vehicle after I had told them to stop they refused. Out of spite the owner refused to take my debit card to clear the remaining balance of 225 on the 4425.00 bill they had charged me for the failed build. He demanded that I bring him cash but was accepting credit cards from other customers and I had even paid him in advance the original 4200 before he completed the first build. My interior of my truck now has stains all over because of the boxes of used engine parts they put inside and the head liner has greasy fingerprints all over it. He also left components open to the environment that should be sealed to prevent damage and I also have to fix those parts. read more

The worst experience ever! I feel I was ripped off. I took my car 2000 Chevy camaro to get the brakes worked on. I knew this was the problem. When I dropped it off I was told they would call me before any work was done to get the price. I received the call and was told it would cost $400.00 for the rear pads and rear rotors. They also informed me I had an oil leak and to replace the oil pan gasket it would cost $700.00. When I told him not to work on it because I could not afford the repairs he informed me there would be a $100.00 diagnostic fee. I was not aware of this fee because they never informed me of it nor did I sign anything. There is also nothing posted in their shop about this fee. When I told him this he replied with a smart answer "did you think it was free to check the problem"...very rude. This was actually the owner, Mr. Pope I was speaking with. I ended up picking up my car and paid the $100.00 diagnostic fee to get my car out of there! read more
