Sup peeps? Happy Holiday season to all of you. We are closing out yet another year in our lives. Lets finish this year strong, and be in the right mind space for the new year ahead. So my lawn mower was making a strange sound. He said something was wrong with the mower. He, being my lawnmower (my son, he is my lawnmower.. hahahahaa.). He said the machine that cuts the grass was sounding funny. Broke out Yelp to see who you ladies and gents recommend. Well you didn't have anyone local to me in Hurst, but in a nearby city, Grapevine. Called ahead to find out the particulars. Sounded reasonable and family owned. Drove out, was given an estimate on parts and labor. Was thinking if it costs more than a new mower, will donate it on Nextdoor. Nope. She told me what parts would cost, and a service that included oil change, blade sharpening and fix the broken items. Came out way ahead. Um, 3 weeks turn around though. But they had a bazillion customer mowers out front in intake and outbound, so I expected it, and had a back up mower ready, and a lawn service I call time to time when I just feel like giving my son a rest. 3 weeks pass, I get a call on the exact day. Mower is ready. Drive out, mower starts one pull, no noise, looking like a new mower ready to cut some grass. paid my moolah, they loaded it up for me, and I could not have been more pleased. So thanks to the awesome family that owns and operates Gary's for offering honest service at a value. Not common these days to find one of those, let alone both. Also, thanks to you Yelpers that posted great reviews. One of you, Mark W. gave me a heads up on the turn around time, so even at 3 weeks, I wasn't caught off guard and knew what to expect. Not many small engine repair shops in business with mowers and such being made to throw away these days, and to buy a new one is usually cheaper than repairing. We live in a disposable society, we ourselves create and perpetuate. So I expect those few in business will be swamped and take more time to get to me. Gary's small engine repair lied to me and told me my mower wasn't worth fixing however I found the parts myself and fixed it myself and now it's in perfect working condition. Mike you shouldn't lie to people it makes for very bad business. There's no way you even took the wheels off my mower because when I finally took them off myself, everything was full of crud. One thing for certain I would never recommend Gary's small engine repair to anyone. read more

I was very pleased with my experience at Gary's. I had what I thought was a starter problem on a new Cub Cadet, and it turned out to be a wrong battery that came on my machine. Everyone was very nice and helpful in helping me with my problem. read more

This place does quality work, but they are understaffed. Several times I have waited 3-4 weeks to get a minor repair done. Other times I have called and have been put on "eternal hold." If you can wait, especially during the spring and summer when the grass is growing and the shrubs are filling out, then I recommend them. Otherwise, you might want to find a small engine shop that can do the same kind of good work in less time. read more

I bought a used riding mower and they inspected and fixed what needed to be fixed. Knowledgeable, polite, and did not take advantage of me. They also picked up and delivered the mower for an additional charge which was incredibly convenient. Will absolutely use them again!! read more

I would love to give a better review but after a week of waiting for an estimate, ESTIMATE MIND YOU, not a word from them. I had to wait 3 weeks just for an appointment. I turned it in on Thurs the 23rd of February. Called yesterday and they promised they would get to it TODAY. Well....nothing...AGAIN. You would think that at least ONCE during this they would have called to explain why they have not TOUCHED my lawn mower by now.......IT'S AN ESTIMATE!!!!! Came to Gary's Small Engine Repair as a walk in to have them fix my 6 month old chainsaw. They quickly diagnosed the problem on the spot and fixed it as I waited. Walked out about 15 minutes later and only paid $28 to fix something I was expecting to be $100 or more. read more

I had a good experience with this shop. I took my power washer in for repair. It had been sitting for a couple of years without being used and the carburetor/engine was clogged. They gave me an estimate. He said that they may need to order a new part and that it could take 6-8 weeks to get the part in. Well...a new part was not needed and they did everything with just a clean out of the fuel line and carburetor. They got it back to me in 3 weeks. It was less than the amount they quoted me. They recommended I use TruFuel or a fuel supplement to prevent the carburetor and engine from being clogged if I was going to let the engine sit unused for long periods of time. I recommend them and I'll be taking my chainsaw to them to have it serviced as well. read more

I've lived in Southlake for 25 years. Pretty sure I was there when Gary's first started back in the day when they valued their customers. Last summer I went into the shop on Davis and put myself on a "waiting list" for riding mower repair. The nice woman at the desk said they now charge for pickup/delivery. With raised eyebrows, I pointed out that I had been a customer for 2 decades (at a different Southlake address) and there didn't used to be a charge. She looked me up on the computer and said she would note it in my account so that they wouldn't charge me as they only charge new customers, a fact she later flat out denied. Long story somewhat shortened, by the time my name came up on the waiting list it was 3 months later and I had pursued other options. This summer, I decided to give them another chance since I've done business with them before and now I live a lot closer - 4 miles with 2 turns to be exact = 5 minutes. They came out and picked up my equipment (the wait was only 2 weeks this time) and at no time did they disclose there was a $70 fee to do so. Mind you, I live 4 miles from the shop and off the same street and I was under the historical impression there would not be a charge. I could have driven the thing there myself. They pick up my mower and a tiller, deem the mower is beyond reasonable repair, although they never did disclose the exact problem or cost to me. They repaired a flat tire for $50 by putting a tube in it. They cleaned the carburetor on the tiller for $60, which has previously been done by 2 others with no subsequent use because the thing wouldn't start and my bill was $180! I asked if they thought it was good business practice to disclose their $70 pickup/delivery fees to customers beforehand and the response was, "my time is worth something" and "you didn't ask". Then they try and tell me it generally takes an hour to pickup and drop off, so that's how they justified charging me FOR FOUR MILES. I may be blonde, but I'm not stupid! I was also a little undone when they called to tell me the total I owed and what work they had done, rather than call me prior to completing the work and let me know what they planned to do and how much it was going to cost. "This is what we did, pay or we keep it" is not a good business practice to hold customers hostage like that. But, they're in Southlake where its completely common and somewhat accepted to gouge people by zip code. Kind of like, if you have to ask you can't afford it, mindset. So then, after I tell them I will never do business with them again, they are fine with that because let's face it there's a waiting list they don't need customers. They take my credit card number for $180 for a non-working mower and a questionable tiller and I'm thinking, "I support small businesses, but I can't support this one - it's time to Yelp It." Within minutes they call me back, out of conscience I guess, and offer to "split the difference" of the exorbitant pickup/delivery fee and lower it to $35. In my mind the damage was already done. They'd already earned themselves the gift of an awful Yelp review and a heads up to anyone that is considering doing business with them - DON"T. Enjoy. Seriously, if you have mechanical know how to fix lawn mowers and would like to start your own mobile lawn equipment repair, hit me up. I can do the marketing and admin and bring you all the customers you'd want. All you have to do is 1) have integrity, and yes, I will background check. 2) fix it, for real. There is a huge demand here in Northeast Tarrant County. And I will be your first customer! read more

Stopped in to have a warranty claim resolved with the manufacturer of my lawn equipment. I had contacted the MFR directly for a failure in my unit, but it required having an assessment to determine next course of action by a local service shop. I called Gary's up, they said no problem, bring it on in. Showed them problem, the claim number from the MFR, no problems, and I have a new unit on the way from the MFR. Will consider this place in the future if i have a need for repairs. read more

We found Gary's close to our house in Keller. Brought our Toro mower and leaf blower as neither were running and we planted winter rye grass this winter. We explained that the grass was getting out of control and they expedited repairs turning it around in three days! Both run like they are brand new and it cost less than $80. I will be using Gary's from now on and may be buying a zero turn from them in the near future! read more

They were very helpful with my problem. I have a Ryobi battery powered lawnmower that just stopped working. While I couldn't get it repaired there because it is battery powered (not their fault) they were very helpful in researching and guiding me along to getting this resolved. If I ever need small engine repair in the future, I won't hesitate to go with them. read more

It took over 3 weeks for them to half ass a tune up on a push mower. In the end, it was $100 to essentially change the oil and put new gas in. When I picked it up I pointed out that the choke is sticking, to which they replied "well, that happens sometimes". I expressed my displeasure and told them that the choke shouldn't be doing that, especially after having paid for a tune up... once again, they shrugged their shoulders and said "that kind of stuff just happens." read more

Took my Honda mower and husquvarna blower in for a tune up and to fix the blower. Was told two weeks in that the blower was shot and then a week later the mower was ready for pick up. In between that, i had driven by a few times and found my mower sitting outside on the side of the building. This happened to be during a 3 week stretch of some heavy rain. They told me they did their best to get the equipment inside and to bring the mower in if I see rust or have issues. Getting back to when I went to get the mower, the wheels hadn't been replaced as I requested. After some back and forth, they agreed to replace at no charge, but it would be a few more days. I waited and when it was ready, I was told the total would be $75. After arguing again, the guy said he'd cover it, but instead of bringing me the mower as he offered to do before, told me I needed to come pick it up. Very bad first experience and won't be returning. read more

Recently brought my lawnmower in due to it burning oil and smoking. I was told by a person that retired repairing lawnmowers for over 30 years that this particular engine had issues with the head gasket. I brought lawnmower in for Mike to inspect the head gasket and make necessary repairs. I started the lawnmower in front of him and told him that I just recently replaced the oil and spark plugs. After a week, I got a call from him saying that he performed a tune up, including changing the spark plug and oil, blade sharpening and greasing the differential (oil that I provided), and he just said the oil burning was due to age and wear. I took the lawnmower home and noticed that none of the head bolts had been touched. I called him and asked if he even had the head off or did a compression test. He said no to both and just said that he could tell. He said that it was an old engine and that it would probably be cheaper to just replace the engine. I already knew the engine was old. I wanted him to do a head and gasket check. That's why I brought it in. I got a $189 tune up with most of the items that I just changed two weeks before (oil and plugs). So much for listening to the customer. This was my father's lawnmower and I had memories of this thing since I was a kid. I wanted the lawnmower diagnosed and fixed accordingly.
