I'm not entirely certain why there are so many negative reviews and complaints, but after years of watching Fast 'N Loud, Misfits Garage, et al,. But I believe it comes down to people's expectations, and hopefully this information is helpful. I finally had the chance to visit GMG and its Merch Shop while my wife and I were home shopping in Dallas and Austin. Knowing that the garage itself is still an active filming location/studio, I set my expectations using the Interwebs to visit their website. Those expectations were exceeded! Immediately upon entering the Merch Shop, a staff member greeted us. People unfamiliar with Texas (I used to live in Dallas) need to know that it is a very different culture. Local folks are all very nice, polite, and they live a more laid-back, healthier pace. No business or person are perfect, so not trying to take away others' feelings if they were treated rudely, but I got the impression that to continue being successful, management runs a tight ship. We were checking out some of the gorgeous GMG-built cars inside and in the lot, and a staff member came over to let us know about a raffle (no cost to enter, but took the time to explain that purchases translate to points, and therefore additional entries). After telling him I was interested, he said he'd meet us at the front counter to register us, then asked if we needed help finding anything. He did exactly that, and the store was fairly packed with other customers, so we felt some "white glove, red carpet" treatment. Be aware that the store has a limited amount of space, however, they have at least 75% of the items on the shelf from their online store (which was awesome). We went on a Saturday, so I did not expect to see/meet Mr. Rawlings or his Monkeys. But they do have two large TVs with a feed to the garage. Since the garage was closed, they were playing clips from recent YouTube shows. Other reviewers who complained about no autographs, tours, what have you, should have called ahead or as I did, check out the Interwebs for details. Tours aren't offered and shouldn't be expected, and the GMG website accurately represents what is and is *not* open to the public. Also because of its TV fame, you can't just walk in and demand to have your car built. I asked the store manager about commissioned builds out of curiosity, and he gave me a direct phone number and email address to inquire. He politely said there was a waitlist, which again, is not a surprise. As a comparison, I visited a different DFW-area custom car shop, and they have a 3-year backlog/waitlist for commissioned builds. That shop is only known to locals and others plugged into the industry, they don't have a TV show or any national ads. I enjoyed the visit and talking with the Merch Store staff, and they deserve 5/5 stars for running a clean store with very helpful, polite staff. As a personal rule, I generally do not post reviews, but after seeing so many negative comments, I was compelled to set the record straight. Anyone planning to travel somewhere to visit a specific place of interest should at least make a phone call or check the Interwebs. Yes, another reviewer pointed out that Kount's Kustoms in LV offers tours, but that is clearly spelled out on their site (or if you call them), but you have to make reservations and pay for that. Just because both shops had/have a TV show, an "apples to apples" comparison that does not make! Here's my final takeaway: If you are a GMG fan like me, and you are going to be in the DFW Metroplex, it's worth the visit just to grab some Merch and epic photos. Some visitors who went during the week (including a friend and colleague of mine) have been fortunate to meet Mr. Rawlings and/or other folks in the garage. However, and I realize I'm repeating myself (that's intentional), I implore folks to set appropriate expectations. If you are in Dallas and looking for a "full experience" tour, then I highly recommend the JFK Museum in the Historic West End District. That site has been developed specifically for access to the public. GMG is still filming and posting to YouTube (check it out if you haven't seen it!), so be aware that for obvious reasons, the garage itself isn't open for tours. One helpful suggestion about seeing the garage and their high-end collection: If you are a serious buyer, reach out to Tony and his sales team through GMG's website, and they might consider a limited tour, if you're serious about buying one of their listed vehicles. No one buys a $50,000+ vehicle sight unseen. I hope this Bible-length review is helpful to at least one person, if not more. Stopping by while in town was definitely worth it, and I will do so again next time I'm in DFW!

This is the store for the gas monkey garage . It has a lot of shirts hats and stickers. It has a area to watch the outside of the garage. There is a TV to see what is going on in the garage. It's a nice store and the employee was helpful and friendly.

I had a really good experience visiting the site. The staff at the merch shop was awesome, she really knew her products and even gave me some recommendations for what to do in the area. Very cool. 25% military discount. That was huge. Most places do a max of 10% but I guess they really wanted to be good to troops. Would definitely recommend stopping by. Not a super long experience though. There was no restaurant open or anything like that when I was there. They have about 8 cars/trucks etc visible for the public to be able to see. Cool little stop. Unfortunately I went right as everyone was gone for the mecum auto auctions in Scottsdale. No worries still work it.

My current vehicle is a Jeep Liberty 2007. I'm currently unemployed, and once I get some money. I'm gonna go check this business out.

This would have been the high point of our trip. My husband was so excited as he is a huge fan of the show. He has even been featured on the show as a look alike. We arrived on our way through to Alabama which happened to be on Memorial Day. They were closed of course. Sadly we took a few photos and drove away without a t- shirt or any swag. July 2019 I contact the Gas Monkey Garage prior to going to Texas. I let them know it was my boyfriend's birthday and that Gas Monkey Garage and another car show ( i left them unnamed in my email; however, it was Iron Resurrection) and I was wondering if there was an opportunity to maybe do a quick tour or just take a photo with the cast. I was told, "swing by, there's always someone and Richard usually will stop and take a quick photo with the visitors". I was excited to take him to Gas Monkey Garage. We watched the show religiously. My boyfriend grew up around cars as his step father owned a used car show and raised him around cars until he died a few years ago. His step father even gave him a 1968 Chevelle. Cars are a huge part of his life. Therefore, they were a huge part of my gift to him this year. We arrived to the Gas Monkey Garage store. We looked around, purchased a few items. Talked to the cashier, who just happened to be related to the owner of Stroker's. We talked with her for quite a while telling her about our visit to Stroker's and how its so hard to find Victory Motorcycle stuff. We asked about getting photos or a quick tour and she said, for us to wait out in the parking lot and Richard would probably stop and take photos with us. He did not. He did peel out in the green car that was in a movie he worked on. But that was it. I understand they are busy; however, there were about 6 of us outside. It would have been 5 mins of his time to take a few photos and thank his fans for stopping by. It was the same day as the first show of the new season in July 2019. We did not watch and have not watched a gas monkey garage show since. I was embarrassed that I made this part of his birthday gift. We literally took maybe 15 mins of time from the cast at Iron Resurrection and that was only because they offered to give us a quick tour for his bday. Needless to say, we are still fans of Iron Resurrection and no longer watch Gas Monkey Garage. It was discouraging that he didn't even take 5 mins out of his day after getting out of truck from lunch. He just walked into the shop like no one was there. I get they may have been busy because they were filming the commercial for the new episode but there is more to being on tv. There are the people that make the show successful and those are the fans. I was disappointed that I felt misled and that I in turn misled my boyfriend. The only reason why I gave 2 stars is because the staff in the store were awesome.

I am a fan of cool cars and the show Fast N Loud so while in Dallas I just had to stop by the shop. All I was really hoping for was to get a shirt for my dad for Father's Day. I pulled into the lot and already I could see a few cars I recognized from the show. It's always cool to see something in real life that you have seen on TV. Around the lot there are signs that say filming in progress. Parked in front is the Swag Van. I walked into the front shop and it is just as I expected, a nice swag shop. It has sort of a gear head feel to it, why wouldn't it, we're in a hot rod gargage. Next to the front counter there is a hallway that goes back into the main part of the garage. Only staff has access to go back, rightfully so though. One, because they film everyday and two, if every person that came in was allowed back there they wouldn't get any work done. As I was shopping I kept looking back through the hallway and I caught a glance of Aaron and the film crew. One thing I was hopping to find for my dad was a GMG mechanic shirt. They of course had them so I has happy, I do wish they had the monkey logo on the back though. I ended up getting myself a t-shirt as well as a bunch of stickers and an air freshener. Yes, a GMG air freshener! My family has a couple classic and vintage cars. I haven't put the air freshener in any of them yet but when I do it's gonna look super cool and smell sweet! The woman at the counter was very friendly and helpful. They take credit cards via Square and an iPad mini that sends the receipt by text or email, pretty awesome. If you've ever seen the show you know this garage does AMAZING, top notch work definitely worth 5 stars and after going to the shop I give them 5 stars all around. I own a 1939 Ford Panel Van that I hope to have Gas Monkey Garage fix up for me one day. Until then, I have my shirt, stickers and air freshener. read more

Beware of the scam these people are running. A number of people (including myself) have ordered items from them and never receive the merchandise.. They take payment immediately and then send nothing. If you question it they tell you to check with the Post Office.. read more

I'm disappointed. I understand how tv works from being on the Apprentice, but the girl working behind the counter was simply rude. Without hearing a word and without knowing my budget, she rudely said we are booked solid for 3 years. I think it's great that business is that good, and I hope it stays that way. I recall when I had a car built by another big tv guy and now he can't give his stuff away. Same thing with a bike I bought. There are ways to conduct business and ways not to conduct business. My budget for my project was 6 figures. I'm sure that I will be able to find another builder that will be able to accommodate the rebuild. I wish you guys good luck and maybe you need to look at your staff a little harder. read more

Just moved to Plano and had out of town visitors. Both husband and dad are big fans of the show, so decided to eat at the GM Bar and Grill. Left early enough to swing by the shop and was pleasantly surprised to find open parking next to the shop and the clerks were super nice and welcoming. Husband joked about getting autograph and clerk looked through an inner window and said "darn, doesn't look promising today" - he was kidding, but that was a cool response. Shirts were great prices - $25/$30 and different than the ones inside the Bar and Grill. Glad we stopped and will do again next time we eat at the restaurant, which will be soon! read more

Pretty cool place.. maybe some day they will do tours? Didn't see anyone noteworthy in/around the gift shop. None the less a cool experience as you can peep the cars in the lot. Prices weren't super high.. $25 for a tshirt and $28 for one with a bit longer sleeves. read more

Stopped in for shirts and a glimpse of the place. Store clerk was very nice. Crew was at lunch when we got there. Ricard Rawlings walked in and greeted us as he headed back to work. Wish I would have spoken up for a pic! Star struck I guess! Needed to have hats in the store. Also wanted the collared shirt but they only had small and mediums. I had a business trip in Dallas and I wanted to stop by and get a t-shirt or something and see what I could see of the place. I knew you would not see the inner workings of the garage but that was not an issue. You get to see the exterior, especially where they do the burnouts but be aware you are behind a gate. The merch area has many types of items to choose from. Just be aware they are extremely pricey for what they are (hats ($39.95), t-shirts, long sleeve t-shirts ($34.95), etc). That did not stop me from buying a hat and shirt. Just a bit shocked at the prices. read more

So I just happened to be in Dallas and wanted to go see a car that Gas Monkey had listed on EBAY. It was the 1926 F58 Chrysler. I met Tony briefly but was told I could not see the car because they were filming and thus there was no way I could see the vehicle that day. ( I get it I just popped in ) I asked if I could see the car the following day ( permitted I could change my schedule around and I was told to make an appointment for next week. I explained to him I was from Boston and had a short window and I did not want to bid on a car without seeing it. Yet I was brushed off and told to bid for it on ebay again!) I asked for Tony contact information and was told send a message on EBAY.. ie no contact information SO Folks Food For Thought I had the cash to buy the car with me and I was shocked just how little they care about trying to sell me a car. I think they spend more time on promoting a brand and putting their logo on sports drinks and burgers and forgot what they are the a custom car build house. I wanted them to finish the car I was willing to talk price and wait for it to fit into their schedule and I was totally blown off! ( WOW what a way to treat a customer) At the time I really wanted a cool car finished by Gas Monkey and the F58 Chrysler fit the bill. What a let down I thought it would have been awesome to have a Gas Monkey car to bring to the car shows in Boston. I would have been really pump to show off a car done by them. I will still watch the shows because I like the work but wow what a disappointment. Even if I could not get to see the car it sure would have been nice to have been treated with a little bit of respect. -Leo read more

I like the gas monkey very much. We typically go by on Friday nights for happy hour and are always happy with the specials. They have a great selection of IPA beer and yummy appetizers for a few bucks off their original price. The staff is very down to earth and attentive. They have live music and a good looking crowd for the most part. Great atmosphere, tvs to watch sports. Cant wait till the spring to enjoy their outdoor area. Parking can be tricky. If you don't have a 4x4 get there early! read more

Ok so we own a auto mechanic shop in the small town we live in so my husband watches this and others like it. So when we went to Dallas we decided to stop and check it out. Not what I was expecting, at least Kounts Kustoms has he's car on display and then a gift shop. This shit shack has over priced t-shirts, its kind of a joke. But that's just me. I guess that Richard and Aaron don't want to show the pubic their own or customers builds. read more

In a business district that smells like cows. The gate was open but nothing to see in the lot. The garage doors were closed (A/C on?) and nothing going on. I went in the store, the selection is small compared to online and the cute girl was nice. I did see the staff when she opened the door which made my day until I paid $30 for a single (thin) t-shirt (ouch). -1 for sticker shock and -1 for nothing to see. I shouldn't be rating for a tourist review instead of car work but it seems all the other reviews are tourist ones as well. read more

A nice place to check out the gift shop. You really don't get to see the cars that they are working on. Shop is closed up when you go unless they are filming. Have to say it is fun to watch Fifi run around the yard. The staff in the gift shop are nice. It's nice to check this off the list but not something I would go out of my way to see. read more

So of course we watch the show. We stopped by Gas Monkey while visiting Dallas. We couldnt help ourselves! On the day of our visit, the gates were closed and no Richard or Aaron sitings but we saw Richards dad in the gift shop! They have the swag van out front for photo opts! read more

We flew into Dallas from San Francisco, and the first two stops in Texas were Gas Monkey Bar & Grill and Gas Monkey Garage (my husband is a huge fan of the show!) We were bummed we didn't get to see Richard or Aaron, but the merchandise ladies were so sweet to my daughters. One let my 8-year-old daughter use the shirt folder to fold a few shirts. It totally made my daughter's day! I wish I could have gotten her name to give her a shout out! We didn't even mind paying $30 for a t-shirt. read more

This place is pretty cool! We happened to get lost and found it per my wacky directions... we saw them inside! They have some merch for sale inside and a nice lady at the checkout counter. I highly recommend going and seeing this place! read more

Love the show so the garage was a must hit stop while I was in Dallas. The store was very nice & the staff were all very friendly & helpful while we were loading up with some swag. Prices were very reasonable too. Wish they had more things like different key chains, phone cases or more variety of hats, but that's a minor thing. They had plenty of different shirts to choose from though, including Ts, Hoodies, Work shirts, you name it! Didn't see anyone from the show on this particular day, but I'm sure they were busy working. Definitely worth a stop if you love the show, they're bound to have something you'll want & it's cool just seeing the place in person along with all the cool cars they have hanging around. read more

We went down for my birthday weekend. Seeing where the show was filmed was pretty neat. We didn't really expect a whole crazy experience so what we saw was interesting. Merchandise is a bit expensive but so is any novelty merchandise. Overall, go for the experience and the opportunity to say you been there. read more

GMG was my one "to do" thing on my turn and burn in Dallas for a day. Dealy Plaza will have to wait until next time. I'm not bent out of shape that you can go into the garage...lol...it's a business. Still cool to see the Swag Van and the building where the show is filmed. Bought some cool gear and will wear it to the airport proudly. read more

I stopped by to get a t-shirt for my Uncle as a souvenir. It's in an industrial area, not too far from where all the strip clubs are, but was easy to find. The parking lot was busy with lots of vehicles in and out in the short time I was there. I made my way inside and found the shirt I wanted. Purchase was simple and quick and I was on my way. I don't watch the show myself so I wouldn't have known if anyone from the show was there, except the main guy, and he wasn't. read more

Being a car guy, I watch this show and cringe. Anyone who does high quality body and paint knows that you will not get a quality job done in that short of a time. The chemicals don't even have time to evaporate from the body filler before they paint it which leads to sand marks showing up later on. Paint isn't allowed to properly cure in that short of a time either. I've seen their cars in person and they look better on tv. Doing a rush job like that is not worth it. Do it right. read more

This place is great. Richard is so dreamy and was nice enough to sign my shirt though he was wearing a Superman costume. Aaron was funny and riding around on a shetland pony when we stopped by. KC was custom painting an amish buggy and man did it look amazing. Keenan is a new guy apparently and it's really nice to see they support the gay community and aren't homophobes. read more

Thank you for coming to visit us. We are always excited to have folks come by. We are proud to have guests from all over the globe who come by each day. Our gift shop has undergone an upgrade, including tv monitors that loop into our garage. We are currently in process of designing a shaded patio area to give our guests even a better birds eye view. Given the weather and microphone pick up for filming, we are unable to keep our garage bay doors open as much as we would like. We get out to say hello throughout the day. Established in 2004.

Richard Rawlings founded Dallas-based hot-rod shop Gas Monkey Garage in 2004. Gas Monkey Garage has produced and shipped cars for people all around the world. In 2012, Gas Monkey Garage became the setting and subject of a hit reality TV show on Discovery called Fast N Loud. The garage has become a Dallas destination for out of towners.

I went to GMG a couple of weeks ago to take a friend of mine from south east GA. Chris Taylor was diagnosed with terminal cancer about 7 months ago and has always wanted to meet the Gas Monkeys! I talked to a friend in Dallas who has a friend that knows Richard. Chris met me at my home in central Alabama. we made the road trip through Louisiana Wednesday and on to Dallas on a Thursday mid day we arrived at the shop. We went into the SWAG shop and I ask for Lauren who in in charge of social media for GMG, I was told she wasn't there..... about that time I heard a bike fire up and come along the out side of the shop and looked and it was Richard heading out, to the airport I learned from him later. I hurried my buddy out and Richard hung out for a few pic and told us how much he appreciates his fans but he was off to LA to meet with discovery execs. About the time he pulled away a nice looking lady walked up to me and said hi I'm Lauren.....turns out there were two Laurens and the one I needed was at work!!!! she said she was expecting us and had something for Chris. she took us inside toe office to meet everyone that was there. we met chip Foose who was there for some commercial business. we met tony the internet sales guy, Richards sister Daphne and then on to the shop. we stood back and watched filming going on and looked at all the cars, bikes and other stuff. we were taken to the side of the shop that's not on the show where Richards personal stuff is as well as the MONKEY TRAP. we met several of the monkeys, Jason and a couple others were great . I cannot say enough about this place and the people. all the bad reviews here are a bit dark as people expect shirts and other things of this nature form a show in the number one spot on reality TV to be cheap, get with the program guys and gals hot rodding and racing isn't cheap nor all the things that go with it, thanks Lauren, Jim, Richard, Jason, Tony and so may others for making my buddy Chris feel like he touched a piece of heaven. the GMG n=bar and grill was great too. also met sue and Thomas weeks at their paces and they were all great and really accommodating people. Me and my kids are HUGE fans of the show. My parents came to visit us from CA. We made them take us to see the shop. All we expected to do was buy some shirts. However, once we got there, right in the lobby was the mechanics sitting having a quick lunch break. My kids faces lite us bright red!! They all spoke to my family and even took time out to take pics. As we kept shopping we than saw Christie down the hall. She came out to say hello and told us sadly that Richard and Aaron were out of the shop. Christie spent a lot of time talking to my kids. She signed there shirts and hats. Though my kids were overwhelmed from the fact that they were that close to a celebrity they loved to watch on TV, they enjoyed the time everyone took to talk to them. As we were leaving one of my daughters saw Tom in one of the garages. She yelled his name, and he stepped away from filming to come say hi. I cant say thank you enough to everyone at GMG.... you all made my kids summer vacation!!! They really needed it since their father is currently deployed with the military. I believe that if Aaron and Richard were there they would have been just as friendly. This experience will keep us as huge fans of GMG. We bought a lot of souvenirs, the only thing we wish they had was a pre-autographed group photo for us to buy. read more

I am too drunk to write an awesome "it sucks" review, but I am still quite capable of expressing an honest, unadulterated thought better than the producers of this once somewhat honest piece of programming. I completely understand why the owners and mechanics will gladly change their workaday lives for a bit of fame and a taste of fortune but the producers of this show should be ashamed. MTVs "Road Rules" showed the world you could get anybody to do anything for money but you lazy and feeble minded producers could not advance such a simple realty into something clever even with over 20 years of history for reference. The producers have taken a great and simple concept that attracted dedicated viewers and turned into a disco ball of a million reflections of douchbaggery. I am sure the show is making money but in the end you are making monkeys of all of us. read more

It was pretty surreal visiting the garage that I see on TV. The gates were closed and the doors were open which you could see things going on but not great detail. The souvenir shop was open. They had tshirts and stuff to buy. I only wished they had signed copies of his book as I would have bought one. Really the only way I buy hardcover books anymore. The shop manager was nice I saw her answer every dumb question from the tourist. I thought she was cute and had a great attitude. Treated me really well and sent me off with a smile. The tshirts were a little high, but heck he needs cash to buy cars! It's supply and demand and you have to make hay while the sun is shining. My whole visit was 15-20 minutes. Not earth shattering but worth the drive. Felt I got my worth of no charge to look. read more

I enjoy watching this show but I just don't understand the usual outcome of 90% of their builds. The completed cars are usually nice rigs but Richard seems to always take them to what appears to be a jake leg " BACK YARD" auto auction. It's a constant typical ending with Richard losing his ass/money. No business can keep their doors open with the financial loses that Gas Monkey seems to take on a weekly basis. So I have to figure the money Richard gets from the Discover Channel producers is what keeps him/Gas Monkey afloat. I just feel Richard would make a profit (not a loss) on his cars if he would take the time and send his cars to a better higher class auction with a lot more prospective buyers in the audience. read more

The wife and I are big fans of the show so of course we had to hit the GMG while we were in dallas.We pulled into the park lot to see the swag van sitting up front.As we went in to the shop we found a good assortment of t-shirts,jackets,sweat shirts and hats. But the most thing I found impressive was the customer service. The two girls that were working their( I didn't get their names) were as nice as could be.it was my wife's b day so we asked if anyone was around to take a picture with.she looked for probably 15 minutes but could not find anyone. As we were leaving Richard pulled up in to the parking lot and took some pictures.all in all I like the place and would recommend anyone fans of the show to stop by read more

Love the show, my kind of people working in a real shop not a factory with CNC machines all over and CAD doinfg all the designing. Intersting thing is that when I was working for S&S Cycle, and they were designing and building there Exwedge motor, the project was called FRED too. Why does GMG HAVE A PHONE NUMBER for their merchandise to call but they tell you do not leave a message as no one will call you back. How do I get a hold of them now that I have not received my merchandise? They do not answer your emails!!! I had no problem getting my shirt. It came in a timely manner and gas monkey garage was Very good, about emailing me with any possible delays due to the huge volume of shirts they were sending out. When I did get shirt.I sent a thank you reply and got a response within a hour or so. Impressive! ! Now thats customer service! I will surely contine to order more merchandise. read more

Stopped by here on 12/27 not knowing what to expect. Walked in and found Jordan, Tom and Crissie hanging out in the "swag shop". Got to talk with them, get a photo, and buy some swag.
