Came here with friends last night. It was busy but the service was quick! The drinks were good. My only complaint is i ordered the same drink twice and paid 2 different prices which both were reasonable so I didn't make a stink but makes you wonder. We ordered the house cut fries which were the crispiest most flavorful fries that were dusted in a lime (???) salt that took them to another level. The fries were served with ketchup and garlic aioli. We also had the honey garlic wings which were delicious and there was enough sauce on the plate to dip the fries in. This was my second time here and it's obviously great because I'm back! I sat at the bar as a was a single diner. Greetings and a menu were offered. I was looking for a cocktail menu but was informed that the cocktails are available next door across the patio. I just ordered my go to drink, an Old Fashioned. Browsing the menu, I decided to order one of the specials, the Smoked Jalapeño Burger with fries. My drink was great! I had no doubt there. The burger was perfect, and the fries? THE FRIES!! Cool spot in Uptown N.O.  I came for happy hour. I enjoyed the laid-back and casual atmosphere. The bartenders were very attentive. They have a great variety of wine and cocktails. One of the happy hour wines this evening was a delicious sauvignon blanc. I opted for fries for the happy hour snack, which were tasty. There's a cute courtyard outside on the side of the place.  It appears that they may share it with the neighboring bar. There is additional outdoor seating in the front of the place. There's street parking that can be hard to come by. It's a busy street, and parking can get a little tight. I was fortunate this time and was able to snag a spot right out front. I've been wanting to check this place out since they combined the two spaces under one ownership. We sat on the Oak side which is a nice space but lacks character, white walls, no artwork besides the few stretched pieces of colored canvas to absorb sound. They offer a nice selection of wines and bubbles by the glass along with happy hour specials. I did wander over to Ale at one point to grab a beer which you can add things to your tab seamlessly from both establishments which is nice. The staff was very friendly and informative. The food was good not great, menu isn't all that interesting and was surprised they don't have any salads on the menu which would be nice with the dense offers they have on the menu. Overall it's a solid 3.5 stars for me. Nothing about it makes me want to rush back but I like the concept. read more

I can't give this place five stars because I did not eat here. We stopped for a drink while we were out walking but that being said. The staff and the place was fun. The menu looked delicious and all the food that we did see come out. Looked amazing. A large open area and a space bar make it very enjoyable also if you're out and about recommend stopping in. Great wine bar with great food! I wish we had more places like this around the city. It's a perfect bar with lots of wine on the menu! The bartenders are nice and helpful and all the wine and champagne is delicious. They have nice outdoor seating on the side and sometimes they have live music. The place is a little too loud though sometimes for the live music. I had tried some of the tapas on the menu and everything is so delicious. Very surprising how delicious the food is! read more

Both are very cute, but the Oak side is larger with a lot of comfy seating and a big bar it was half price bottles of wine when we went which you can't beat! We shared a bottle. The bartenders were really helpful.. tons of recommendations. We had just eaten so we didn't order food, but the options looked great! Charcuterie to tacos to hummus and more. Went to dinner with two friends on Saturday at about 6:00PM when there were few other dinners there. It looked nice inside. My friends ordered burgers and a fries for the table and I ordered the steak tacos. What followed was the most horrendous table service. The waitress brought out our food at about 5 minute intervals. First one burger, then another when the first was almost half eaten, then the fries, but still no tacos. When the tacos finally came my friends were mostly finished eating, and the soft tacos were overcooked & crumbled after one bite. I will never eat at this establishment again!!! read more

I happened to be going out of town for a while, so my girlfriends and I decided to get together here for happy hour. I kept putting this place off, but I am SO glad that I finally made it. Not only do they have great happy hour specials, everything also tastes so good. You have the option of a few different wines for $5 and some small plates as well. Let me just warn you, the buffalo cauliflower is going to change your life! We stuck with prosecco but I am sure that all of their options are fabulous. The decor is elegant with plenty of seating so you can come with just your S.O. or your whole crew and you will definitely have a place! Our waiter was very accommodating of our large group while people came and left at different times. We can be extra sometimes, but he handled it so well and made sure we were always comfortable! Oak is the BEST! I actually discovered this place years ago when I was invited to Ale...I ventured over to the other side and never went back! It's so darn cute in Oak; the feel is chic with dim lighting and candlelit tables, yet welcoming. I always enjoy sitting at the large marble bar...so many opportunities for delicious wine selections and craft cocktails! I'd say that the food options include "small plates". Nothing too heavy or filling, but enough to nibble on. Also, I always enjoy their bartenders! They're knowledgeable and can whip up any custom drink you're interested in (such as my pictured sugar-free sazerac shot!). This really is a great sort of tucked away spot with feel-good vibes. Well Blue Oak BBQ is really good! I enjoyed my rib plate with the roasted Brussels and roasted garlic Mac and cheese. My daughter ordered the oak burger which was huge. I couldn't pass up the dessert of the night which was banana pudding! Oh I must mention that this was a to go order. I thought that it might be a bit of a wait , so I went to the bar and ordered a drink while I was waiting ... the thing is , the food came out before I could even pay nevertheless drink my extra dirty martini! We were in the neighborhood looking for a nice place to have a glass of wine or cocktail. At first we sat at the bar to look over the wine list and was greeted by the bartender. She was obviously on some sort of sedative as her movements were not aligned with her speech. I was amused just watching her so it added a little lagniappe entertainment. She was friendly though and suggested we sample a couple different wines since we couldnt decide. After ordering, we decided to sit at one of their cozy tables off to the side. The clientele was probably between 19 and 24 which made me feel old but the atmosphere is so relaxed and refined that it remained a place I wanted to stay. I'm not sure I would drive out of the way to return but if I were ever in the area, I wouldnt mind having another drink here and maybe sampling their small plates. read more

Every time I come to New Orleans, it takes me hours to try to figure out where to eat and drink while I'm in town. With so many places and so little time, it's always a coin flip. Luckily, my friend Carolyn made the decision this time and it was a great choice! Oak is a sweet little wine bar on Oak uptown and is precisely my kind of place. Especially because on Tuesdays all night (and every other day from 5-7) they have $5 wine, $5 small plates, and a $5 signature cocktail - YES PLEASE. The wines and cocktail change regularly, but when we visited, they had a bubbly option and a couple of each white and red wines and the signature cocktail was a Prosecco with st. Germain that was delicious. My suggestion to you is to ask for a taste of the wine first if you are not familiar as one of the reds I tasted, even after the bartender explained the flavor profile, was not my cup of tea. She very generously allowed me to get something in its stead, but honey, you don't wanna waste! As far as food goes, you MUST have the pretzel and beer cheese because the beer cheese is life changing and you must have the hummus. If you are splurging, go for the St. James cheese tray too. My college's alumnae happy hour was at this bar and it was great spot although finding parking at 5:30 pm on a Friday was a challenge. I parked in the neighborhood behind oak street and just walked to the bar. The happy hour special was $5 on select wines and daily cocktail, as well as $5 for food, humus or fries. I magically stumbled upon this wine with a friend and we simply couldn't resist the big sign outside advertising their Thursday happy hour (all night!). The deal is $20 for a bottle of Prosecco and a big platter of fries, which was perfect for two. Usually the happy hour is 5-7pm, with $5 wine, cocktails and snacks. Their wine selection is wide and the wine cellar well stocked. We ambled in only to discover that they were also having a wine tasting that day so we hit a double whammy. The wine tasting was open to all the patrons in the bar, so we got to taste and learn about some new wine which was fun. Don't know how often they have events like that, but it seems like they do it often. The interior is bright, cool and modern and it exudes a certain cool vibe. Checkit: another wine bar review! I know I sound like a broken (drunken?) record but, as they say, you write what you know and I know me a good wine bar dangit. Oak fits the bill when way up in the Riverbend. The space is a departure from the smaller, darker wine bars that populate this city (and that I populate) and it's quite lovely. They somehow maintain this fairy light glow with the lightly-colored walls and furniture illuminated by pretty light fixtures. I'm gonna say it: a more feminine vibe, but that doesn't mean a man couldn't - and shouldn't - feel comfortable here. And on that note, the crowd isn't primarily female, so there's that (calling all the single ladies). The crowd is very Uptown -grad student rather than the undergrad ubiquity at places like Monkey Hill and St. Joe's Bar (and Delachaise on weekends). Mature and polite young people for the most part and god, do I sound like my Great Aunt Tillie right now. Very different from the all-ages scene at my beloved Patrick's Bar Vin. Staff is top notch at Oak! Although the place was bordering on very busy when we arrived, we were greeted and seated, but then opted for the circular bar that is awesomely situated in the middle of the room. Both bartenders were extremely friendly and attentive, even asked us if we wanted food. Sadly, I had just consumed enough Japanese food to feed a small village down the block at Chiba, so all I could do was admire the brief menu that promises tasty bites of exquisite things like frites and cheeses and olives. Oh and you small plate haters be rest-assured they have full entrees, too. Wine list is as you'd expect: lengthy! I've been on a bubbles kick again and they've got 'em. A good selection of reds by the glass but definitely not as extensive as Delachaise & Patrick's. If vino ain't your thing, they have beer and a full bar. One minor thing: not sure about the acoustics of the room. The band playing was just too loud for the otherwise delightfully hushed setting. A sound person would have rectified the situation (I could be wrong but it seems like the band did their own sound and that is never a good thing. Take it from someone who worked in the biz for years). I'm looking forward to returning to Oak. I should remark that I came here on a Thursday night and it was the final frigid night of the week, yet it was still comfortably busy. Not sure if it's packed on the weekends, but I wouldn't be surprised, after all this is Oak St, quite the happening Uptown corridor. I am a huge fan of Oak after only one visit. It wasn't too long ago that I wouldn't have been caught dead in a place like this. Luckily for me, I have embraced my inner fancy pants, and now get to enjoy places I would never have tried pre-Yelp. Oak is very white inside. When I first walked in I was taken aback by the bright clean look. I am not sure why, but it works well to make the place feel even more fancy. The large bar was well staffed with extremely friendly bartenders. They didn't mind explaining types of wine, or constantly refilling water glasses. There was a very good selection of wines by the bottle and glass. While not cheap, prices were very reasonable for the by the glass selections. I tried a couple of different glasses, but particularly enjoyed the Riebeek Cellars Cabernet. If I remember correctly, it was $7 or 8 a glass. On the night I visited, there was a live band. My only complaint is that they were a bit loud, making conversation difficult. This is a great venue to watch a band because it is far away from the touristy areas of New Orleans. I would much rather watch a show here than at a downtown club. I like Oak, a lot. I could see where it would be far less fun if it were packed with people, but when I visited, it was nearly perfect. read more

On this visit, we met some friends for after-dinner drinks and had the fortune to be there when the establishment was having a complimentary wine tasting. Product: Drinks of all types and light snacks/meals. I didn't have any food on this visit, but the drinks were fine enough, though a bit pricey, and it was a plus to be able to try the wines being poffered for tasting. 4 stars Service: Counter service at the bar. I'm not sure on how food was ordered, but we did sit at a table, and those who has ordered food had it delivered to them. I had the pleasure of meeting the proprietor of the establishment on this visit; he was friendly. 3 stars Facilities: A wonderfully refurbished building right on Oak Street. The inside is spacious, with vaulted ceilings. There is an alleyway with outdoor seating which connects to a beer-themed bar owned by the same person (I did not go in that bar). Seating includes stools at the bar and long tables with chairs for larger groups and those wanting to sit down and eat or drink. Artwork and other decor was slick and fit the minimalist motif of the establishment. The bathrooms were spotless. 5 stars Bonus: Occasional wine tastings---contact the business to find out when they'll have their next one. They also regularly have a small music ensemble performing in the evenings. Overall: A really nice bar for before/after dinner or an event. I'd suggest it to anyone going out in the Riverbend for an evening, and looking for something a little more elevated in style over the Maple Leaf. 4 stars read more

So me and a girlfriend of mine were looking for wine on a Friday night and Yelp led us here. I'm so glad I didn't read the reviews before I came cause that may have steered me away. Cute little spot on Oak street with outside seating and the inside interior is so chic. White EVERYTHANG! Definitely girly as one fellow yelper mentioned. Now wine was on our agenda but the beers and cocktails caught our attention more. And the band...let me just say it wasn't overly loud as some have previously mentioned. They were great! Played covers of Anita Baker and some local Ricky B (Shake it for Ya Hood)...lets just say the music snob in me was in heaven. This place wasn't pretentious at all. No one was overly dressed looking to catch a sugar daddy or anything like that. Just groups of people mingling&talking and enjoying the band in between sets. Maybe I picked a good chill Friday night. I'm glad I did. I'll definitely be back for the half off bottles of wine during HH. I'll have to update this review once I can try the food...kitchen was closed when we arrived :( Overall great experience! It gets added to my after work drink spots for sure. read more
