We were very pleased with Gastehaus Schmidt's hospitality and service. We reserved Bushel and A Peck B&B through AIRBnB. Gastehaus Schmidt was the host. They were very efficient to work with and kept us in the loop in regard to arrival and departure plans. We arrived on Christmas Day 2020 and had a quick question confirming the key location and they picked up the phone with in 2 rings on Christmas Day. This particular place, Bushel and A Peck was very nice and fit our needs well. It was about a mile from Main Street and easy access to shopping, restaurants etc. The outside appearance was not anything get excited about, but the interior and overall coziness was perfect. In addition it was very clean and functioned well. We would use Gastehaus again without hesitation.

    No explanation needed - disgusting.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. Horrible customer service. I stayed at Abigail's Cottage and it was filthy, stains everywhere. I had to leave, it was too dirty and gross for me to stay there. I complained to the manager and they basically said 'sorry you don't like it, we aren't responsible for the condition of the homes.' Would not help in issuing a refund. I still had to pay for a disgusting stay and the management of this company was very lazy, didn't care. They were also late in posting the check-in directions, I had to request them, and you have to go to their old-fashioned office in town to pick up a literal key, this would have been great to know prior to arrival, right? Poorly managed, lack of attention to detail and zero customer service.

My friends and I booked a weekend trip for one of our birthday. 2/19-2/21. We had to cancel due to the freezing temperatures, being with out power for days and no water. We sent an email on the 17th asking to reschedule. See attached. When we tried to reschedule they told us we never contacted them so they checked us in. We are 1 of at least 3 separate groups they did this to.

If you are staying in or around the Fredericksburg area then Gastehaus Schmidt is the way to go. It's the most inclusive of all the reservation services in the area and very easy to use. We've booked through them 5 or 6 times over the years and have always had a great experience. One of the good things about this service is that their website details out everything. I'm not just talking about price per night and if pets are allowed either. They will detail if the property is a minimum of a 2 night stay (most are), minimum of 2 nights on event weekends, minimum of 2 nights on weekends, etc. so you won't get screwed over by a random rule. They have a variety of B&B options depending on your preferences. We've had a full breakfast brought to us, bakery certificates left for us (more privacy on those properties), stocked kitchens- there's something for everyone, we prefer more private locations. Due to the area, many of the locations are quite expensive, but you can find a handful under $100 a night that are still extremely charming. That's ideal for a getaway weekend without breaking the bank. Some of our week long trips have even had discounts after a certain number of nights. Even the more affordable properties hold all the charm you would expect in a town like Fredericksburg. Each property has its own great architecture and story. I find that small bathrooms are really common in Fredericksburg, especially claustrophobic showers, so pay attention to the pictures! That's the great thing about this site, plenty of pictures that show all angles of the room or cottage. Our first couple were so tiny we were bumping elbows into the walls, but the last few had awesome bathrooms! Insert your absolutely necessary item here... Lot's of properties have extra amenities besides breakfast too. At one we had spa privileges, at another we had the best porch swing and entertaining area, at another we had a loft and a Jacuzzi. It's amazing how easy it is to create a perfect stay, including random desires, through one reservation service. Though we have stayed outside of the town limits before and enjoyed the peace and quiet, they have many properties in town. The last three times we stayed, we stayed within a block of Main Street making for a reasonable walk (definitely drive if it's summer time) to all the shopping and restaurants. Some are closer to wineries if that's the intent of your visit. What has been disappointing for me is that several of our favorite spots that have great memories, are no longer available properties. One is still there, but must have gone private or been taken over by another reservation service. Another is an art gallery now. Luckily, the one we had our honeymoon at is still there if we're feeling nostalgic. It looks exactly as I remember it from the pictures too! The other thing that I don't like is they used to have a great site for sorting by whatever your preference is- price, breakfast options, etc. for all the properties. Now you have to search by area and scroll, or choose a property at a time, both of which are a lot more time consuming. It's still a useful site that will answer your questions, but I prefer their old site from way back when by a long shot. I've seen several reviews mention the service isn't great. I really can only recall speaking to someone on the phone for a few minutes at a time to verify details- easy enough and no one has been rude to me. Check in is as simple as stopping in on Main Street to get your key since you pay ahead of time. I did notice that their website says you have to pay a full 10 days ahead of time which seems new because I don't remember that being a rule before. Most of the information is in the confirmation email though- including all the details about the property from the website, cancellation policies, the name of the host, where to get your key, etc. It's very possible to create your dream vacation through Gastehaus Schmidt, we have, and I recommend it. Fredericksburg is easily in the top 3 of our absolute favorite places to go, and I always rely on them to make it happen from afar. The only reason for 4 instead of 5 stars is that I know they can do better with their website to be more convenient to their customers. Also, I have stayed at some perfect spots that I want to return to, and I can't be sure of that being an option. My other favorite places to vacation allow me to return to my favorite properties and I would just like that same certainty here. However, with so many properties and owners, I am sure that's a challenge for them. It still provides a fun adventure, just not the consistency some of us may crave. They will make your trip easy, check them out!

We walked into a breathtaking place at the downtown Wine Not property. Each detail was very well thought out. Everything was spotless and clean. It was furnished with everything we needed for a complete experience. The entire experience was fantastic and what a hot tub!!

The bed was a little more firm than we were expecting, but we still slept fine. I should also preface that we sleep with a box fan on low for white noise. We were there during the week so there wasn't really any noise from other guests, only a few people were there. I will make note that you can see straight down into Winterberry from the door of the second floor cabin next door. We forgot to tell Debbie, the manager, about that, but it can easily be fixed with a simple window covering. There was no one in that room while we were there so it wasn't a big deal. Debbie was truly delightful, very sweet. She brought the biscuit basket we ordered for our final morning. The biscuits were really very good, they come in the cutest setup, with the biscuits sitting on a bread warmer. Great experience overall. There are lots of options around Texas for romantic spots so that doesn't sound too hard, right? Well, it wouldn't be if you weren't dealing with a hormonal, PMSing girl with mad food cravings because she's trying to be good and eat low carb to squeeze into the size-too-small bridesmaid dress that she ordered. Too much info? I digress. We hit the wine road towards Fredericksburg and after seven wineries, 42 tastings, and six bottles later, he brought me to the most adorable place I've ever stayed at: Carriage House. In case you're wondering, it was just as adorable the next day when I was more sober (my photos don't do the place justice). The outside of the main house was pretty, but no, we weren't staying in the main house- he did better than that. Off to the side of the main house was a little cottage standing by itself. "EEEEE, we're staying in there?!" my tipsy self gushed. The girly squeals only intensified after I saw the interior of the cottage. Hubs had outdone himself. A few tips for first timers: Dogs under 30lbs are allowed to stay for an extra $10/night. You have your very own private parking spot that is literally right next to the cottage. Once parked, you will find a little gate about a yard in front of your car; the gate leads right to the front of the cottage. In addition to the usuals that are provided at a hotel, the cottage is also supplied with dishes, silverware, and wine openers. Just check the drawers around the kitchen sink. Towels and extra toiletries are located under the bathroom sinks, and there is a step stool located underneath the (very high) bed. If you're short, use it. If you've been drinking wine all day, use it. When in doubt, use it. You're not actually served breakfast in bed here. Instead, you're given $10 vouchers (one for each guest) that can be used at several popular brunch spots in Fredericksburg. If Carriage House had a cheesy slogan, I would imagine it to be something along the lines of, "Carriage House: Drink Wine and Fall in Love." So friends, drink wine, fall in love, and check this place out. But don't try to book on my birthday weekend. Because it'll be mine.

It was also furnished with a couch that pulls out into a bed and also a coffee table. The bathroom was great , it has a huge jacuzzi soaking tub that easily accommodates 2 . I had to use the step stool provided for the bed to get into the tub. I am only 5'1 and the tub is so deep that it's hard to get into. Thankfully, we found out that it's not quite as expensive as it looks, and we could afford to stay there, so we did! The room was wonderful and very comfortable. I love the stone wall! Only qualm I had was in regard to the shower/tub. The jacuzzi tub itself was amazing, but they put a "rainshower" head above it for showers. First of all, it was a regular showerhead pointed straight down, not a rainshower like those positioned that way should be. A sign asks you to utilize the shower curtain properly so there is no water damage... which is impossible even when using the curtain. It's just a very odd setup. There will be water damage just of how the whole thing was designed. Worst about it all, was how high the tub itself is- if you are in any way disabled (be it permanently or temporarily injured) or elderly, you are going to despise this tub/shower. I'm a 34-year old fit and active person, and I struggled getting in and out of this thing. It's awkward to start with but then add water and oh sh!t, you're going down for sure! We used the stairs for the bed and put them in the bathroom for this reason but it didn't help much. Other than that, everything else was spectacular. The staff was friendly and helpful. We took advantage of the fireplace which was SO cozy! Perfect for the chilly nights we had. They supply firewood and firestarters so it's very easy to make your own. During one of the days, it was warm enough to enjoy the pool too. Breakfast gets delivered in an adorable picnic basket and it's loaded! We expected the norm of simple breakfast options like mini boxes of cereal and muffins. Nope! Hard-boiled eggs, fruit galore, prosciutto, cheese, danishes/pastries, oatmeal, and yogurt. It was different every day and delicious every day. Treat yourself and stay here! You'll be glad you did. If you fear the wacky tub/shower, don't choose room 10. That's where we were but all the rooms are unique and others may have a better layout in the bathroom.

We were greeted by a lovely hostess who seated us early, and our server was a nice gentleman who was incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. We started with the green goddess juice, which was refreshing (but a little too sweet for us normally. But we drank it!) We opted for the burrata appetizer and it absolutely mind-blowing and delicious. The quality of the ingredients is superior and the flavors just worked. I ordered the Hometown Fred Burger, and I loved it so much. The meat was thick and juicy, and it had bacon and PEACHES on it! Sounds crazy- but it was one of the best things I've had. The side winder fries sounded weird on the menu- but trust me- get them. Loved them. Hubby ordered the hot honey chicken sandwich, and he said it was excellent. He went with the sweet potato waffle fries, and they were also yummy. Overall- great value for this meal. The ingredients and flavors are upscale and such high quality. Honestly I felt like the prices were competitive based on the quality. I saw several menu items I'd love to try when we come back.

We were seated immediately, the ambiance was nice, the gardens we walked thru outside were gorgeous. Our first waiter was aloof, he spilled water all over the table, cleaned it up...accidents happen no biggie but he seemed annoyed with us, when he was the one who spilled onto the table and into my friend's lap. Fortunately, most landed on the table. We had scheduled on line and the limit it showed was 8 on the first screen and then we were given a noted area where it asked how many people, we confirmed 9 people, we paid $180 for this reservation. It did charge for 8 (missed that in the email). When we arrived we asked the hostess ( young dark haired girl not friendly) she answered with an attitude and let us know we had booked for eight and NO they would not accommodate. Part of our group was seated. The rest of the group came in and saw that the two ladies on the end were so crowded at the narrow table it was going to make eating difficult. So I went to ask for a manager. The manager (Chris maybe, bearded guy). He was immediately, defensive and attitude-y. I asked him if it was possible for us to get another table moved over. "NO, the girl already told you. Not possible, we are booked ". Mind you I'm looking around and there are two tables in our room with people, us and another one AND Three empty tables. Each room had more empty tables than they did people. He tells me they are ALL booked. I'm like there is nothing. NOPE. I tell him there is no need to speak with that attitude and rudeness and then I go sit down because I'm not trying to ruin our trip. So a new waiter came, some ordered the lavender mimosas, peach Bellini, Bloody Mary, hot tea & champagne. The lavender mimosa got mixed reviews, very sweet. Bloody Mary and green tea were exceptionally good. We asked whether there was a sugar free coffee option, waiter didn't ever come back. We ordered chicken and waffles, salmon eggs Benedict, regular eggs Benedict and tuna ahi salad & a cinnamon roll. Chicken and waffles was cinnamon forwards but not really a Belgian waffle and the waffle was not hot, you got two chicken strips (the crust was flavorful but the chicken was a bit dry). Two of us paid extra for hot honey, it WASN'T hot or even flavorful! Both Eggs Benedict were cooked right but just warm. Tasted good but the classic breakfast fries could have been cooked longer. The tuna ahi salad was very good although the tuna was a small serving. Asked another waiter About the sugarfree coffee, he suggested and then came back with raspberry latte, tried it but it was weird...No one ever asked if it was okay, no one asked about the lavender mimosa even though we ordered another champagne and pushed it aside . The cinnamon roll was delicious but more of a bread pudding. Overall it was not a great experience. The customer service was lacking. I realize we showed up with an extra person( from the managers viewpoint) but they could have accommodated even if they said we'll try but if all the booked clientele show up then we will have to come get the table. Also after spilling the water on the table and some into a customers lap, the manager should have comped her champagne or something as an apology for the ruckus. Two tables in our section were empty the entire time we were there. There were multiple empty tables throughout the restaurant the entire time we were there. I can't recommend this place, very rude management and not at all accommodating, lacking customer service & the food was not up to par

Think about an olden house with modern amenities like fridge, hot tub, TV, microwave, and electric fireplace. Thankfully, I didn't even have to churn my own butter. Just a few miles off the strip we arrived at the barn. One of four options when staying at the farm. Makes no sense to even beat around the bush, the goats, nearby donkeys, and the deer....WE LOVE THIS PLACE! Provided breakfast food from Lupe included casserole style muffins with sausage, eggs, cheese, and hash browns. Next days breakfast was similar with ham, eggs, and cheese muffins. Both served with sour cream, Serrano based red salsa, and fresh fruit from the local HEB. Nothing like strawberries and cantaloupe with a pinch of table salt. Again, old school meets modern. I knew the salsa wasn't made by a German! Finally, we escape from our own personal ranch to get away from our extremely needy cats and child. What do you get as temporary residents of said property? Old Mouser Cats! The herd was 60% I'm not even gonna let me touch followed by a few tidbits of love and screaming into the door you just entered to settle down. PET ME NOW!!! Sweet creatures. Made this weekend perfect! Note the Yelp pics of the diverse movie selections for your viewing pleasure. Young Guns was still in the DVD player followed by the wife's selections of murder mystery...murder mystery...followed by the local forecast. Hot tub was used by the wife; I had to abstain due to a recent surgery. Next time we visit the barn we will be in full force!

The cabin is well appointed with everything you need and super clean. The daily breakfast is so delicious and the owners are open to dietary modifications if you need them. We stayed in The Roost cabin and ate on the back porch each morning. If you get up early you can have your coffee on the front porch while watching the deer. Or watch them while enjoying a glass of wine at dusk. I'm sure we'll be back as the cabins are close enough to Fredericksburg to see the sights but far enough in the country to give you time to slow down and enjoy the peace and quiet.

What a JOY to stay at this beautiful cabin. Steve and Glenda (the property owners) were AWESOME. So kind and welcoming from the minute we arrived. When we pulled up to our cabin and got out we were greeted by a friendly bunch of chickens, they actually ran up to greet us. :o) The cabin was picturesque... there was a screened in sitting area on the back porch with comfy rocking chairs and additional chairs and a beautiful covered front porch with rocking chairs and a chiminea. When we walked in the cabin looked just as it did in the pictures online. Beautifully decorated and very clean. A king sized bed in the main area with a small kitchen equipped with; microwave, small refrigerator (freezer had 2 ice trays and fridge had 4 waters), plates, wine glasses and opener, cups, coffee mugs, keurig (coffee, tea bags, creamer and sugar), dish washing soap, etc. The bathroom was the perfect size with a walk in shower (it was very clean). The loft upstairs was perfect, again very clean and super cute. It is a small space but perfect for climbing in for a good nights sleep. There was an oscillating fan in the loft which helped with the air circulation. Very cozy! Both beds were very comfortable. There was a flat screen smart TV in the main area, we were able to watch Netflix or regular television. The AC worked great. In the evening we sat on the front porch and had a fire in the chiminea. Steve and Glenda stopped us on our way in on our first night there and asked how we liked our eggs prepared, they also asked if we had any dietary restrictions. They told us that they would deliver our breakfast to our door the next morning between 8:30am-9am. The next morning they were right on time and did not disappoint. A beautiful display (see picture)... fresh eggs, bacon, breakfast potatoes, homemade biscuits, homemade apple butter (to die for), fresh squeezed orange juice. It was a WONDERFUL, down to each little detail. The next morning we had another great breakfast... fresh eggs, sausage links, french toast w/ strawberries and bananas, walnuts and more fresh squeezed orange juice. Glenda also made us a sweet treat (individual chocolate lava cakes) that Steve delivered to us on Saturday afternoon. YUM! We had a memorable weekend in Fredericksburg... a wonderful place to stay, a great wine tour (290 Wine Shuttle), good food and laughs. I will come back and stay at this beautiful place again. Thank you Steve and Glenda for providing us the perfect home away from home for the weekend!
