Under new ownership! It'd been a year or two since we last visited Gate City Growlers, but stopped in a few weeks ago to support a friend who had an event going on there. Still a great space, very music theme oriented with lots of great music related art adorning the walls. Lots of great craft beer options in bottles/cans and on tap. It's a very laid back place to hang out with friends, play a board game, catch a game on tv. Met the new owner, very friendly and welcoming. Somewhere I'll definitely be hanging out again at soon, and being located in a great area for food, they encourage you to bring food with you or have it delivered. My husband and I love going to GCG! The staff is super friendly and they always have a big variety of beer as well as wine and seltzers to choose from. They have games available (foosball, pinball, board games) so it's very family friendly too. My husband and I will bring in take-out on a weekend afternoon or get a drink there after work. read more

PBR is the staple on tap- and rightly so. If you agree, then this place will not disappoint. There are some games to play and you can order food from 1618 Downtown. Awesome, awesome place! The staff was friendly and guided us on our beer choosing journey. At first we thought we would just sop in for a beer, after it was recommended by a friend. But after we arrived and saw the incredibly large brew selection we thought we would make a 6 pack to go. Long story short we ended up filling up an entire large box of various types of beers and it was hard to stop at only one box. My sister came to town and was craving some craft beer so I took her here. First of all, the people there was so nice (the staff and the patrons).. I don't know if it was because everyone had been drinking but I thought it was a great way to welcome my sister to G'boro. They have a great selection of beers. My sister loved a couple of them. Great place for destination beers, one offs, seasonals as well as everyday bottles. It's nice to find local NC breweries on tap that aren't sold anywhere else in the city. It's like taking a brewery tour of Charlotte or Raleigh without leaving GSO. They no longer have a $3 filling fee for outside growlers which is nice. They had to do that in the beginning as the growlers were their only form of advertising. They have a few bottles of Wine and small assortment of cigars if your heading to a dinner party or the golf course. Definitely worth dropping in. #supportlocal read more

Stopped in Friday evening to snag a couple growlers to accompany our Bandito Bodega haul. Danny was working and was extremely helpful amd knowledgeable. I had been seeking an Oskar Blue special release far and wide and he was quickly able to clear up qhy I could not find it anywhere. The tap was comprehensive in flavor, I got the Buriel Voorhammer and the Horchata stout (paired with the Bandito dinner awesome). Will definitely go back. read more

Growlers was open on a Sunday which isn't the norm. They had a full beer tasting which was fabulous. The bartender was super cool and a sweetheart!! The crowd got a little rambunctious and I felt bad for her. The beers were great. My favorites were the King Coconut and Cucumber Berry. The cucumber definitely came through lol. They had finger foods and music playing which was a nice touch. I will definitely go back and try other beers. read more

I love this place. Excellent rotating taps with something new to try all the time. You can sample any beer on tap, get growlers & a good selection of beers to go. It's a great place for people who really like beer and want to try something new. The people are friendly and knowledgeable. They are very enthusiastic about what they do. I like the atmosphere and hours... It's not a bunch of idiots getting drunk into the late hours, it's people who appreciate tasting beers with respect. Don't expect a dark bar, expect a beer tasting, drinking and shopping experience. Dog friendly inside & no food served, but there are places nearby for food (take out too) if needed.
