As a Sanford local, I'm always on the lookout for a great cup of coffee, and these days, I love that I don't have to look far! It seems like every couple of months a new coffee spot pops up, and I absolutely love the variety that is filling the area. Fortunately, Gateway City Coffee Co. is another great addition! I stopped by this morning after my morning walk and left feeling more than satisfied. Located directly inside Henry's Depot, Gateway City Coffee Co. serves a variety of coffee, tea, smoothies, and snacks. The woman who took my order was extremely friendly and nice, even though it was early. Her energy was so cheerful that it made me happy too! I ordered a sugar-free caramel cappuccino, and it was excellent. The espresso was perfectly flavored, and my drink had the ideal amount of froth. It was a little early in the morning, but I'll definitely be back to try an empanada or a tequeño. Since this place is in Henry's Depot, there are plenty of seating options both indoors and outdoors. The shop was clean, and they even had small handmade DIY paintings for a couple of dollars that would be perfect for entertaining kids while you enjoy your coffee. Gateway City Coffee Co. is an awesome addition to the downtown Sanford area, and it's woman-owned! If you're ever in the area, I highly recommend stopping by for your next cup of coffee!

A delightful experience!…read more As part of my quest to pair coffee houses, with bike trails, I popped into Caffe Di Riverwalk, following a 28 mile ride around Lake Monroe. That was a great decision, on my part. The staff was pleasant, the ambiance was charming, the Eggy Bagel I had was great, but the star of the show was the caramel latte they created for me. I believe the phrase my youngest daughter would use, is "Amazeballs". I'm not exactly sure what metrics are involved in reaching amazeballs status, but I do know it is several rungs above amazing. I'll be back!

It is very much the type of environment that calls for a sit down-even if a brief one. I noticed most folk sat in with their coffees/food/pastries. The service was friendly but sadly the espresso and steamed milk machines were broken during my visit meaning many coffee items were unavailable. Major bummer as I am an iced latte lover so I settled for a cold brew which was decent. I definitely would have preferred a latte so hopefully next time I'm in Sanford, all systems are go. I also ordered the breakfast croissant sandwich and requested the turkey option instead of regular bacon. I would have assumed the "turkey" option meant turkey bacon. To my surprise it was actually deli sliced turkey. While it wasn't overall unpleasant, I would have preferred turkey bacon given it is a breakfast sandwich. Would have given it that crispy element. But as stated, it was nice and a good size for the price tag. I didn't have room for any pasty, cake or pie but looking forward to trying next time as they all looked really yummy on the display case! If you are looking for a coffee or quick cafe stop in Sanford, this is a notch above the chains and worthy of a stop!

They offer breakfast, lunch, and a variety of pastries, making it a convenient spot for different times of day. When I initially placed my order, the person at the counter did not speak much English as I was asking questions about the menu and ingredients. They went to get someone from the back to assist me, which I appreciated, and that person was able to answer my questions clearly. Once that was resolved, ordering went smoothly. I ordered a beef empanada and a pressed chicken sandwich. The sandwich was made with shredded chicken and pressed on the grill, giving it a crisp exterior while staying tender inside. It was flavorful and generously sized. The portion was large enough that two people could easily share it, especially at the price point. The beef empanada was the standout. It was well seasoned, cooked perfectly, and one of the better empanadas I have had in a while. One minor issue was when my order came out from the kitchen. Although there were two people working at the front counter, it took a while for my order to be acknowledged because they were engaged in conversation with a customer picking up a to go order. It was not a major delay, but noticeable. Overall, the food quality and portion size made a strong impression. With slightly more attentiveness at the counter, the experience would be even better. I would definitely return to try the breakfast options, pastries, and more of the lunch menu. Food: 5 out of 5 Service: 3 out of 5 Atmosphere: 4 out of 5 Value: 5 out of 5 Overall Rating: 4 out of 5

I had a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich that came out on warm Cuban bread, and it was absolutely perfect--crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and full of flavor. We also tried one of their fresh donuts, which was made that morning, and it melted in your mouth. All of their pastries are baked fresh daily, which makes every bite stand out compared to the typical coffee shop treats. If you're in the area, skip the chains and check out this local spot. El Coquí is a true hidden treasure that delivers authentic, fresh, and delicious food every time.

I wanted everything on the menu. This was more than southern comfort. I was very impressed and each dish had the perfect balance of flavor. Portions were perfect and it's always nice to be satisfied without feeling sick after like so many "comfort" foods can. I got the Korean seabass special and it was slightly pan fried with a crisp I the edges and meaty center. The pickled peaches were excellent! The ice cream is house made and very unique. We had the popcorn, buttermilk and brown sugar. I liked the brown sugar the best. :) The drink selections were great. I really enjoyed this orange beer that had over 5 % abv and is a good contender to OBP! We will be back next month because I've got to try the ragu and gnocchi!
