Doctor Potter is amazing! I had a small pain in my back tooth in the beginning of the week and then it started to grow worse each day. I was able schedule an appointment with my regular dentist on Friday and he gave me a look over and said I needed a root canal and that I would need to be sent to a specialist, and they would not be able to see me until Monday. By this time I was in totally agony and had not been able to sleep for three days. He gave me some pain meds that didn't work and some amoxicillin. That night the pain was at an all time high and with only 6 hrs of sleep with in the last 3 days I was at my tipping point. I only had a few options. One, I could overdose on pain meds that were not working, two, grab a pair of pliers and take the matter into my own hands, or three, find a dentist that was not only open on Saturday but willing to see me and able to do what needed to be done to get me out of pain. As you could see the first to options feld alot more realistic at this point. I decided to take a chance and I google searched "Dentist open on Saturday" and I saw a yelp review that was on Dr. Potter and had had a similar situation as mine. I took a chance and gave him a call, well my wife gave him a call and I walked around in a circle praying that he would be able to see me. Luck was on my side that day and Olga, who by the way is very nice answered and understood my pain, got me an appointment to see him. All I knew was that I couldn't go another night without sleep and this was my last chance to get fixed. To make a long story short not only did he fix me I got my first good night sleep in long while. If I had to picked one thing that makes him a good dentist is this, when I was in the chair I asked him if there was anything he could do today to relieve the pain and he said "Oh don't worry, we are not going to let you leave here in pain. Don't worry about that." After he said that to me I knew I just found my new dentist. I live in South Austin but I am more then willing to drive when I know I am in good hands. One last thing that secured the 5 star rating is he called me later that day just to check and see how I was doing. If any one is looking for a dentist I recommend Dr. James V Potter! read more

I've been to so many dentists my whole life due to bad teeth and because of my husband's job , we traveled for many years and I've never been satisfied until my family started seeing Dentist James Potter. So, I hate dentists. Not like dentists as people, but that certificate that lets them do what they do to your teeth and gums. Somehow I believe it is punishment for the misdeeds our bodies do to themselves. This is somewhat of a two part review as the first involves my sister and the second myself. My sister was in PAIN. This doctor is open on a Saturday(which is genius and so necessary). Anyway, we call that day and the front desk lady says to come and we will be fit in. She also guesses the cost for us. We come in and wait for quite a bit, but its short notice and they are busy. Dr. Potter was awesome, got my sis out of pain and we go to leave, but the quote is wayy off. The doctor had to correct the front desk person. So come to today, and now I'm in some serious PAIN!!! Owww, this time when we call there is a new front desk person, Elizabeth. She tells me she can get me out of pain and will help in any way possible. She quotes me based on my symptoms that i have an infection and may need a root canal. I walk in and she greets me warmly. She had a cancel and made sure to call to let me know!!. I was seen in 10 min. and go back in a bit to finish the procedure. the front desk lady was spot on, was able to personally make a call to me( which is rare these days), and really knew her stuff! I have a huge dental phobia. Let's start with that. I first went to Dr. Potter after a dental emergency. I called the emergency number they had listed on their web site, and this was on a holiday. They contacted me back, in a very timely manner. They even called me from out of state (due to the holiday) in order to set up an appt for the next day. I was new to the area and didn't have a dentist, and was terrified to be seeing a new dentist in an emergency situation. The staff was incredibly nice, and so was Dr. Potter. I had an abscessed tooth, and they fixed it with a temporarily fix and scheduled me for a root canal. Fast forward to the root canal, and it was a walk in the park compared to what I was expecting. Nobody wants a root canal, but if you HAVE to have one, it was the best experience it could be. In and out. No pain. MInimal discomfort (due to dental phobia, and also just having a lot of dental tools in your mouth and face). Really no way to avoid all of that. One of the best dental experiences I've had. I'm going back for my crown, and I have zero anxiety about the return visit. This is definitely going to be my new dentist in Austin. The staff is very professional, competent, kind and friendly. Dr. Potter is also all of the above. I could not ask for anything more in a dentist. read more

This staff is super professional and friendly. Guess what? they are also open on Saturdays! Had an abscess tooth that I thought I could just try to man my way through, but after 3 sleepless nights something had to be done! When I came into their office, at around 3, I was greeted by Glenda who set me up, and let me know that she would fit me in as an emergency somewhere because the last thing they wanted to do was turn away someone that was in pain! They had a total of 4 other emergencies that day, and still managed to get my tooth worked on! Angela and Dr. Potter tended to my mouth, were quick, courteous, and I felt at complete ease. I did not have dental insurance, but my out of pocket cost for seeing a dentist on the weekend for an emergency was less than $300. I know I'm not the smartest person, but a weekend emergency visit at a hospital because no dentist's offices are open on the weekend sounds like it would cost a lot more money. I highly recommend this place, and as a person who has never gone to the dentist before (I'm 33 now) they now have a life long patient. read more

Doctor Potter is a life saver. 12 hours before my husband was supposed to leave for a flight to Brazil he got a toothache. I searched all over for an emergency dentist that would see my husband on a Sunday. I almost gave up but then I came across Dr Potter's website that actually had his cell phone for emergencies. He answered it and talked to me about different possibilities to get my husband patched up and on his way to work. He was actually seeing other people today but could meet us at his office at 6pm. We went in and within 49 minutes my husband had ex-rays and the problem tooth (upper wisdom) was pulled and he was written an antibiotic and pain medication. My husband was able to get a new flight leaving tomorrow and everything worked out great. I was so extremely impressed with Doctor Potter's friendliness, professionalism, as well as the appearance of his office, etc that he is going to become our family's primary dentist. He is just a great guy and pricing for the emergency service was really reasonable. I highly recommend him. read more

Well, I'm from England and we are known for having bad teeth... That is what one of my US colleagues told me... Actually even though mine are not bad (for my age) they were in bad shape, so I was a bit ashamed going to the dentist today. I knew I had a cavity... S I had to man up... (I'm a girl) Ok so, the receptionist - when I stepped in, knew who I was, had prepped the paperwork for me. It was great. It was very welcoming. Ok so, then I had my X-rays done. It was fabulous - they don't do it like that in England. I was thrilled. So then I met with the doctor... I can tell you, I have never met a specialist who was so friendly, genuinely seemed to be interested in my conversation, was kind on my English teeth and didn't make me feel bad when he was listing out my treatment plan. I actually walked out more relaxed then when I went in! Have to return in two days for an extraction... Darn my English teeth. But if you are looking for a dentist, stop looking - this place is great. read more

I had an emergency today because one of my teeth broke. I'm going on a business trip for a week and needed this fixed today but all of the dentist were closed on Saturday expect this one. I called 90 minutes before they closed and they said they could see me. When i arrived the staff was very friendly. When I was taken back to the examination room I was very impressed. They took my blood pressure with a wireless device and took my x-ray with a wireless device as well. I felt like it was the future. When it came time to get the work done the staff was very friendly and made me feel very comfortable and I'm usually not a fan of going to the dentist. I was so relaxed at one point they thought I was asleep!! It was quick and painless and I felt so comfortable. I would definitely recommend them. I can't remember the last time I felt so at ease and so confident in the skill of the staff and a dentist or doctor's office. read more

I would say "Dr James Potter" the real doctor "experience" counts a lot in the field of medical last year I was having the worst pain anyone can imagine and it's not that I'm sensitive to pain. So I called Dr potter's (weekend) got appointment same day (his front desk appointment registrar was very professional as well and kind enough to understand my problem) coming back to Dr Potter he evaluated my problem did extraction "zero pain" that I have to make sure if my molar was really extracted" started RCT and I was pain free almost immediately procedures he preformed was painless (which I wasn't expecting) cos never had a dental procedure without pain in the past when done by other doctors. He's knowledgeable and listen to you I already recommended him to family and friends and will not miss a chance to recommended Dr Potter to anyone in need of best doctor he's master of his art. Greatest dentist ever! I didn't need one cavity filled or one root canal. Dr. Potter saved me from settling for dentures. I had 11 top teeth that I didn't think had any hope. After several marathon appointments and very tedious work I now have teeth that I am so very proud of. Oh, and if you are as big a coward as I was about going to the dentist...Dr. Potter is your guy! He and his staff make you feel very welcome. Liz, the office manager keeps the office buzzing like a well oiled machine and such a cutie! I can't say enough good stuff about Gateway Dental. They're the best! Dr. Potter, and his staff was absolutely wonderful. My toothache started July 3rd. The whole left side of my face was killing me. Of course with the next day being a holiday I said to myself I'm DOOMED till the weekend maybe even next week. I googled possible dental offices that were avail weekends or holidays, and Gateway Dental came up in the search. I called at 10pm at night left a voice message just to receive a message on July 4th from Glenda. Stated that they were open, and for me to come on in. I couldn't believe it! I jumped up told my husband "LET'S GO"!! Office was cozy, clean, and staff very professional. While I was there heard other patients saying how great Dr. Potter is so I knew I was in the right place. I started going to Gateway Dental because they were open on Saturdays (super convenient) and had great Yelp reviews. I was a little nervous switching from my long time out of town dentist based on Yelp reviews but after going to Gateway Dental for a cleaning and to get three cavities filled, I don't regret my decision at all! The doctors and dental assistants are super nice and super gentle. I felt almost no discomfort while having 3 cavities filled and they even replaced an old, stained filing free of charge. On both visits, I was seen almost immediately after walking in the door. Everything about Gateway Dental is professional and high quality; they provide a great experience all the way around. I've had some bad dental experiences before and it takes me a while to trust new dentists but Gateway has turned me into a loyal patient for years to come. read more

I am from California. I was in Austin on business when I had a dental emergency. I had little hope of finding someone to see me on a Friday afternoon. After several calls my wife found Dr. Potter. He agreed to see me right at closing time. The receptionist had to leave early that day so the Dr. was running around doing everything. He was seeing me at the last minute, a patient from out of town with a 0% chance of becoming a long term patient and he was apologizing to me because he was running 5 minutes late. When I got in the chair he listened to what was going on, quickly found the problem and gave me my options. All in ten minutes. As I was from out of town he gave me a prescription to get me through the weekend and a referral to a dentist back home. If I lived anywhere near Austin Dr Potter would be my dentist without hesitation. read more

This is my first official review! I am so motivated because of the fantastic experience I had at Gateway Dental. My wisdom tooth was killing me and I searched high and low to find a dentist who was available to see a new patient on a Saturday. Dr. Potter definitely exceeded all of my expectations. He took his time to explain how he would go about the procedure and really put me at ease. I have been to dentists before who were very condescending and stripped me of my dignity but this wasn't the case at all here. Shout out also to Lupe his assistant who was professional and friendly. I went to Dr Potter with my wife and step daughter. They both have limited English but Dr Potter and Olga (she's not there anymore) made them feel comfortable. My step daughter was especially frightened but Dr Potter was patient and tried his best to take a look at her. He recommended a pedi dentist for her. My wife had a bridge put in and a some cosmetic work on the front tooth. We had to go back when the cosmetic work came loose but Dr Potter took care of it no charge and it's as good as ever. It's convinient that he is open on the weekend. I like the office set up. Comfortable furniture, good clean atmosphere. Glenda has replace Olga and is just as courteous. When my own dentist was not able to see me on a Saturday for a crown I broke off my front tooth, Dr. Potter was able to work me in and fix it fairly quickly and well. They completely saved me since I would have had no way of going in to my dentist during the week and had some interviews set up the following Monday and Tuesday. What a disaster it would have been had I gone to my interviews with a missing front tooth. I would highly recommend the Gateway Dental office at anytime. Dr. Potter is a very caring and considerate person, who is excellent at taking care of the dental needs of his patients. I needed an appointment right away to address two fillings before leaving on a trip out of the country. Dr. Potter and his staff were very quick to accommodate me. While in his office, you feel right at home. He is very professional and friendly, and the space is very neat and inviting. Just as important, I didn't feel rushed as he took the time he needed with me to do a good job. All ages are welcome, and he has a special heart for the military too.
