This was our first time at Gather and it did not disappoint. Immediately upon walking in, there was a trendy and cozy vibe with beautiful decor and inviting ambience. I ordered their happy hour Chardonnay which was good and a fabulous price. I also ordered their happy hour fries and bone marrow fried rice. I rarely get excited about fried rice but wow it was outstanding! The presentation was stunning, unexpected and unique and the flavor did not disappoint. I plan on getting it every-time I go. The fries were good but nothing special. I ordered the vegan noodles with chicken for my entree which was flavorful, abundant in vegetables cooked to perfection and beautiful in presentation. Some of the best food I have ever had in my entire life! I had heard amazing things from anyone I talked to who had been here, and I knew I had to come here. I made a reservation on their website which was so easy to do. We arrived a bit earlier than our reservation was, but were sat down right when we got there. We chose to get the pork buns because I have heard they are incredible. They truly are! All of the flavor packed into those pork buns is truly amazing. My fiancée and I each had two. We both loved them! I got the berry mojito to drink which was so refreshing and tasty. My fiancée got the Gather favorite cocktail called Caliente Wey which he also really enjoyed! For dinner, he got the Gather burger with fries. On their menu, it says a pile of fries and they mean it!!!!! The fries and burger were so good!! My Korean marinated imperial wagyu was absolutely some of the best steak I have ever had in my life. It was cooked just as I asked for it to be and the flavor was remarkable. We went around 7 PM on a Monday night, and it was not too busy. It is a very elegant and beautiful restaurant inside. Not very loud and we were sat where no one else was around us. Love the basement growing plants! This is one of my favorite places to go when we make it down to the Old Market. Service is a bit slow, by design I believe, so you can sit and savor. The carrots, buns, buratta, and mushroom toast are all excellent apps. My daughter got the bone marrow fried rice with egg as a main dish and really enjoyed it, the perfect runny egg putting it over the top. I've heard some fairly good reviews of Gather in Omaha, so I took advantage of a chance to grab a table for two at 5:30 on an August Saturday night. Greeting and seating was prompt, pleasant, and professional. A sign of good staff training. Table service was a similar experience. They appear to be well staffed - an nice situation in this labor market. Gather has a nice menu, not too big and not too small. It abounds in fresh, locally sourced and grown comfort food. In fact, their greens are mostly grown in their own hydroponic garden in their basement - and diner after diner went down the stairs to view it. I selected their Fried Chicken 3 Cheese Mornay Cavatappi Pasta, with House Hot Sauce, Heirloom Tomato Jam, and Texas Pickles. The chicken is two expertly deboned, dipped, breaded, and fried chicken thighs. The seasoning and crispness was spot on! Succulent fried chicken! And as good as the chicken was, the Cavatappi in their house-made Mornay sauce stayed right with it! The unique twist was the delightful Heirloom Tomato Jam that lay beneath the chicken with the Texas Pickles (marinated onions, Fresno chilies, and jalapeños) giving the dish a subtle sweet heat. House Hot sauce was also on the side for a touch more heat. My only disappointment was the hum-drum toasted bread served with the charcuterie board. This happens too often with charcuterie boards - the restaurants serve amazing meats, cheeses, nuts, seeds, etc. but really miss on the bread and cracker quality. Gather did also. We finally checked out the place when we got gift cards from Costco. We brought my mom along for the ride. It was in a cute little spot in Old Market, with a small outdoor space. Seemed to be a neat place to hang out. We made a reservation that started off with them completing the reservation for someone else, so they didn't initially find my name. The server was very nice but she seems a little flustered, which it didn't seem very busy but that's okay. The food was pretty good, there were just things here and there that didn't make them quite perfect which is probably a personal opinion thing. The menu had a good variety of stuff, but I would say it may be a little too "unique" for some people. My mom isn't a big fan of stuff like elk and bison, so it limited some of our choices. The meat part of the pork in the buns was a little dry. The meat to rice ratio was a little off for how much we paid (so much rice!). The noodles seemed a little undercooked and kinda hard to eat because they're so wide. We forgot to take a picture, but we tried the Jackson donut holes for dessert. It was a bit disappointing for what seemed to be a take on a beignet. They were quite large and very doughy/thick, which maybe people like. The berry compote dip had way too much cinnamon, basically felt like a punch in the face. If we come back, we'd definitely try something else. We scanned the Qar code for menu and the menu has amazing options to select drinks, appetizers and main course options. We ordered old market fashioned, calinete way, gather mule and lemonade for kids. In appetizers Mediterranean Burrata cheese, mushroom toast with melted brie. For main course pan seared meso salmon is amazing choice. We also ordered truffle pasta and fried chicken. Everything thing turned out amazing and we had an amazing time. The staff were super friendly and helpful when deciding what to eat. The drinks were refreshing and paired well with the meal. The bone marrow fried rice with a side of salmon was incredible. The rice had a crispy outside that was very savory but was balanced well with the bright and refreshing cucumber pineapple salad. The side of crispy salmon made this the perfect meal. Each entree has a unique combination of main dishes and sides that the chef specifically pairs. If you want to substitute an item, you can. But, the chef will report back with what you are losing/gaining in the trade. Garden - They have this amazing hydroponic garden in the restaurant's basement. All of their salads come from this incredible garden. It is worth going downstairs to look at it. Fried Chicken - I had the Fried Chicken with Noodles. The Fried Chicken was MASSIVE. I normally finish any meal I order. I only got through two-thirds of the chicken and 3/4 of the noodles. The chicken was crisp on the outside but extremely tender. The flavor was good even the day after in the microwave. Pro Tip - There is a parking lot within one block of the restaurant. Pro Tip - The restaurant is in the old market, a great area to walk around and explore. So make sure you give yourself 30-45 minutes before or after your meal to explore. Gather is an incredible concept of a restaurant as the name alludes to their mission of cooking with ingredients that are mostly grown "in-house". They recommend coming 15 minutes early for your reservation (Definitely make one for the busier nights) as you can see their garden underground. It's definitely a treat! For drinks, I got with the gather mule and it was great. My partner got the Becky and also enjoyed it albeit was a very small drink. For appetizers, I got the Brussel sprouts and the Burrata. These Brussel sprouts are absolutely incredible, some of the best appetizers I have had. The Burrata on the other hand was subpar. I will definitely be getting the Brussel sprouts every time I come here and try my hand at some of their other appetizers. For my main course, I got the truffle pasta which was phenomenal. It is rich in flavor with thoroughly cooked mushrooms that add the perfect flavor to the dish. We also tried the Fig & Farro Salad. This is such a unique spot in downtown Omaha with great vibes. If you're looking for a cute date night, fancy dinner with family, or a chill lunch spot, Gather is the place to be. The service was top notch and our waitress was friendly with plenty of suggestions. We ordered plates to share amongst the three of us and left feeling satiated. The Caesar salad could have used more dressing in my opinion but the ingredients tasted fresh. The wild mushroom toast was savory and ingredients meshed very well together. The pork buns is my favorite dish and everything in it is made so perfectly. The textures and flavors all make it the perfect bite every time. The bison and elk bolognese were also both delicious. The bison was cooked perfectly medium rare. The elk was also well prepared and did not taste gamey at all in my opinion. The drinks were also well prepared and great accompaniments to the meals. Definitely check out then herb garden downstairs at least once because it's very cool and proof that their ingredients are as fresh as can be. Note- we gathered at Gather to celebrate a college graduation. A room was reserved and we ordered from a prearranged menu (pictured). So, there is a larger menu choice but we had a limited number of items to choose from for dinner. In sharing that, we were required to order our entree several weeks in advance. However, when we got there, we had to reorder which I thought was a little clunky and unnecessary. The server gave an explanation about needing the information to serve the correct person, blah blah. Well, there was no interaction about the order- the vegans in our group were served apps and salads with cheese. And, when we served, a couple of us were handed the wrong entree. I suspect that there was a hiccup in the hostess/group sales part of the execution of our reservation and the restaurant was scrambling to get that smoothed over without sharing the situation. We are adults, be honest and grace will be given. All 10 of us were pleased with the food. That was a unanimous conclusion with one exception, the doughnuts were a miss- over cooked, flavorless, and the sauces were clunky to pry out of the small bowls provided. The carrots were good but they were really small and buried in leafy greens. I felt like the carrot dish was more of a salad with the mountain of greens they sat on and the size and amount of carrots. Just not enough carrots on that dish. Go for the brussel sprouts which were plenty for a table of 3 to share. I ordered the pork shank. I was told it was delicious and falls right off the bone. Unfortunately the pork shank I got was not the case but management made it right apologizing and removing it from our bill. I really feel like it was just a fluke that it happened. WTF Omaha? This place is FIRE. I was seriously impressed by my dining experience. I came to town with a bit of an elitist attitude, but Gather was truly amazing. Not "good for Omaha", but just plain amazing. We rolled in with our kids, without a reservation and we were greeted warmly. The space was really cool, very industrial modern, dark and moody - but still warm and inviting. We ordered a bunch of stuff - cocktails, glasses of wine, a steak, an order of fries, grilled veggies, and the fried rice. Everything was excellent. There wasn't a ho-hum dish. This was my first time to Gather. It has a nice esthetic look throughout the restaurant. They have a garden/farm in their basement which is cool and you can go see. The service was ok. We did go right at open (5:00pm) so maybe the staff wasn't awake, but they weren't super inviting. The menu is extremely limited as far as variety and goes. They did have some gluten free options, but again, limited. The most normal looking item on the menu was a steak for $51. I've been to Gather a couple of times and I am just so in love with this spot. It's easy to understand why in its early tenure, it's immediately become a beloved staple in the old market area. The food and drink menu is vast and there really is something for everyone on the menu. The fact their fresh ingredients are made in house is insane! You can actually taste the difference. IT is on the higher end of the price point, but very much worth the quality of the food and the servers are extremely attentive and knowledgable! Okay, so I wasn't in love with this place. I really wanted to be because I heard so many great things about it. I wanted to do the elk bolognese but the Gather burger was calling my name. I am happy I went with the burger. It was very juicy and done right. The flavor was good and the French fries were perfect. I enjoyed the Brussels. I always get Brussels sprouts when I eat out and these were great. The pork buns were just okay. They weren't warm and the pork was chewy and fatty. The Korean wagyu looked promising. Very impressed with the plate presentation however the wagyu was TOUGH. My bf could not cut the meat. I tried a piece and could not chew it. The server was really nice and accommodating and offered to make a new one. He stated it looked like the meat was over done. The second one came out and was a little better but still too tough. This is truly what I want when dining out, fresh, thoughtful, and delicious food paired with a comfortable atmosphere. Deciding what to order was truly a challenge, I persevered though.
