    French Onion soup
    Colleen H.

Went to Gator's Dockside on Tuesday night for dinner and bingo. There were 6 in our group and we waited a few minutes before a staff member came to seat us. One of our group had made reservations for the bingo which needs to be done by calling in at a specific time on a specific day the prior week. It was difficult to get through and sounded like the days of calling into radio stations to win a prize. Call and get a busy signal or if it started ringing it would then drop the call so you had to start over and hope you were one of the lucky ones to get through. We were seated in the bingo area which was nice so we didn't have to move once it started. Our first waitress was very nice and cheerful, took our drink and dinner orders. There was a shift change and the next waitress must have been spread very thin because we would have to try to catch her as she quickly went past our table. I ordered the French Onion soup and fried pickles. They were both delicious! The bingo was very fun. You were able to purchase bingo dobbers for $3 if you didn't have one. The first 3 games cost $2 per 3 cards and the last 2 games were $5 per 3 cards. The prize money was large amounts because everything collected from the card sales was the winning jackpot. The caller announced the numbers 3 times and there were a few tv screens that showed what was called. We did have fun. The only downsides were the reservations for bingo which were difficult to get and if it was your first time going you would not have known to make them the previous week and due to how busy they were our second waitress didn't have as much time to take our orders. A definite bonus was they gave us separate checks which we did not request but was perfect!

    Buffalo chicken salad

Excellent place to visit, great food, great service and very cool atmosphere. Loved the Buffalo chicken salad. Fun place to go with friends and family.

    Crawfish Poboy

This is one of the more quiet locations in which I enjoyed. The service was pretty fast for ordering a few drinks with a bunch of people there. I had the crawfish poboy which had a decent amount of crawfish. I think it should have had more but it still tasted good!

    Wings with no sauce

Only one order had sauce included, chef for got garlic Parmesan and buffalo sauce. Disappointed! I am writing in regard to a recent visit to your restaurant in Brownwood. I would also like to provide some feedback on our dining experience. We ordered three baskets of wings, each with a different sauce selection. Unfortunately, all three servings had very minimal sauce--so little that it appeared the kitchen may have overlooked this component altogether. This significantly impacted our enjoyment of the meal, especially since the flavor is a big part of why we came. Additionally, I requested both ranch and blue cheese dressing, which our server kindly offered; however, we were not informed there would be an additional $1 charge for the extra dressing.

The food is okay. Bar food. The staff are friendly. Prices are good. It can be noisy if musicians are playing.

Food is good as long as you like hot and spicy. Adult drinks are weak for the prices. Restaurant was clean and brightly lit.

My mom was out of town so my dad and I went for an early Father's Day celebration. Unfortunately, it was one of the kitchen's off nights as the calamari which is normally cooked perfectly came out rubbery and overdone. Wait staff offered to have the kitchen remake it but my dad wasn't sure it would come out any better the second time, depending on how the kitchen was timing or judging the cook. He opted to get the voodoo pasta which I had ordered as well. The chicken in the voodoo pasta was also overdone and on the chewy side due. Pasta sauce was definitely bland in comparison to the sauce from a special the week prior that our same waiter had said was actually the voodoo sauce. Sad that nothing came out how we'd hoped, especially on a celebration day. One last note for readers: the dining room to the back right of the restaurant is extremely loud and hard to hear even those you are dining with, regardless of the number of tables filled.

Square 1 Burgers & Bar -- Consistently Great Food and Outstanding Service…read more My spouse and I visit Square 1 Burgers & Bar almost every Tuesday, and it has become one of our favorite weekly traditions. We always sit at the bar, and Gerri -- the Tuesday bartender/server -- is a big part of why we keep coming back. From the moment she sees us walking in, Gerri already has our drinks waiting at our usual seats. She remembers what her regulars like to eat and drink, down to the details: crispy fries, the exact temperature of the burger, and even our preferred condiments. She keeps the bar lively, friendly, and welcoming. We typically arrive right at opening time at 11 a.m. On days when we show up a few minutes early, Gerri will unlock the door and invite us inside rather than have us wait outside. That kind of genuine hospitality is rare, and it speaks volumes about how Square 1 treats its loyal customers. The food is consistently excellent. In our opinion, Square 1 makes the best burgers in The Villages. Their Chicago dogis top notch, and the X Rated Grilled Cheese is always a winner. They also offer a loyalty program tied to your phone number, and Gerri keeps track of her customers' numbers so she can enter them without asking each time -- another thoughtful touch. We often rotate restaurants when searching for a great burger, but Square 1 continues to stand out. The meals are delicious, the service is exceptional, and it's only about a 20 minute golf cart ride for us. Dean, the owner, clearly runs a strong operation -- the loyal clientele and the quality of service from his staff say it all. Square 1 remains one of our favorite stops: great food, great atmosphere, and truly exceptional service from Gerri.

I normally prefer more unique local spots with a little more personality. That being said... the short rib entrée was actually pretty good. In fact, I was SO hungry that I completely forgot to take a photo before eating it, which for an avid Yelper like myself is practically unheard of. Somewhere halfway through the meal I suddenly realized... wait... I never even took the picture. The short rib was tender, flavorful and comforting, and I pretty much inhaled the entire thing without thinking twice. Service was super friendly, the atmosphere was completely dead overall... however the genuine smiles from my waitress gave me warm fuzzies and made me realize .. you know .,, there are genuinely nice people out there.

The biggest problem was simply a lack of attention to the customers. The staff seemed more interested in watching TV than noticing who needed service. At one point I approached someone working behind the bar and was told, "Oh, I'm not the bartender." Fair enough--he was apparently the barback, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. But I shouldn't have to remind someone working behind the bar to get the bartender when a customer is clearly waiting for service. The whole operation just felt amateur and poorly managed. What makes it disappointing is that City Fire in Brownwood used to have a decent crowd and a good atmosphere. Tonight it felt almost like a ghost town, and after experiencing the service, I can understand why. I probably won't be going back unless they improve the staffing and service. There are too many other places in Brownwood where the bar staff actually pays attention to their customers.
