My wife and I were looking for something kind of close to home and easy to get to. So we got into our golf cart and drove to the closest co=ity center - Brownwood and chose Gators. The hostess seated us and almost immediately Kiersten approached and took our beverage order. When she returned with the full glasses, we ordered and then proceeded to watch some golf and FIFA soccer on o host of televisions around the eating area. Our food arrived and we dug into ample portions of food for dinner. It was good and reasonably priced and service was prompt and friendly. Terrible experience. We called ahead about seating for "kids eat free" night while the grandkids were here and we were assured that they would accommodate our group of 8. Different story when we got there due to the idiotic scheduling of kids night with bingo night. They wanted us to sit outside at separate tables which was not what we were told and our kids are little guys. The staff was extremely rude to us so we ended up leaving and went to WOB where we had a great experience. Went to Gator's Dockside on Tuesday night for dinner and bingo. There were 6 in our group and we waited a few minutes before a staff member came to seat us. One of our group had made reservations for the bingo which needs to be done by calling in at a specific time on a specific day the prior week. It was difficult to get through and sounded like the days of calling into radio stations to win a prize. Call and get a busy signal or if it started ringing it would then drop the call so you had to start over and hope you were one of the lucky ones to get through. We were seated in the bingo area which was nice so we didn't have to move once it started. Our first waitress was very nice and cheerful, took our drink and dinner orders. There was a shift change and the next waitress must have been spread very thin because we would have to try to catch her as she quickly went past our table. I ordered the French Onion soup and fried pickles. They were both delicious! The bingo was very fun. You were able to purchase bingo dobbers for $3 if you didn't have one. The first 3 games cost $2 per 3 cards and the last 2 games were $5 per 3 cards. The prize money was large amounts because everything collected from the card sales was the winning jackpot. The caller announced the numbers 3 times and there were a few tv screens that showed what was called. We did have fun. The only downsides were the reservations for bingo which were difficult to get and if it was your first time going you would not have known to make them the previous week and due to how busy they were our second waitress didn't have as much time to take our orders. A definite bonus was they gave us separate checks which we did not request but was perfect! read more

We were here another time and service was very slow. Thought we'd give it another try. No luck. While we did get seated, the hostess was not the friendliest. We sat for quite awhile while the waitress basically ignored us. There was one table behind us that she was taking care of, but it was as if we were invisible. If she would have just said a quick hello and I'll be with you soon, we would have stayed. Nothing. I noticed a manager helping to wipe a table clean, but no interaction with guests....or the small crowd of people waiting at the entrance to be seated. We told those people good luck on our way out. We visited with a large golf group, and to their credit, this was the only place in Brownwood able to accommodate us without a reservation. Unfortunately, that ended up being the highlight of the evening--and in hindsight, it probably says something that they weren't as busy as other restaurants in the area. I've always felt this place was just okay, but this visit really fell short. After being seated, it took quite a while for our server to take drink orders, and even longer to receive them. We then waited about 20 minutes to place our food order, followed by nearly an hour before the food arrived. When it finally did, the quality was disappointing across the board. One quesadilla was burned on the outside, another dish included an end slice of tomato that should have been discarded, and overall, no one in our group was impressed with the taste of their meal. To make matters worse, one person in our group who ordered a quesadilla reported severe food poisoning the following day. It's frustrating because this place has a lot of potential, but it seems to be developing a consistent reputation for poor service and food quality. I have never been to this location before. Went with three other people and we all had the Philly cheesesteak sandwich their "most popular dish." We had it with the mushroom, pepper, and onion topping. For a side three of us had the onion rings. Sandwich was very good and it came with a side of cheese sauce. The onion rings were not rings but more like parts of a cut up onion that had been breaded and deep fried. Very tasty. Our server and service was great. The place is a sports bar with a number of TVs. It was loud but not obnoxious. My test is always would I go back? He'll yes for the Philly cheesesteak sandwich. To make matters worse, the food was brought to the table by kitchen staff--not our server, Amber--who didn't check on us until we had completely finished our meal. We were at the restaurant for well over an hour, and not once did my drink get refilled. That level of inattentiveness made an already frustrating visit feel even longer. On the upside, the place was clean, which is worth noting--but cleanliness alone can't make up for lackluster food and poor service. Hubby and I were in tonight at 7:00pm (Sunday 28th) for something to eat and drink. One of our usual sports bars. A lot of Kansas City fans were clearing out when we ordered. My favorite was the Monte Cristo- UNTIL TONIGHT. Whoever was manning the fryers needs another lesson. This sandwich was a crispy, crunchy, almost burned mess! Very disappointing! Alright I left a review about one or two years ago about a metal piece in my food. But I would love to say this that this place has gotten SO much better. Food was amazing. I got some garlic chicken tenders and they were the best tenders I've ever had. I'm a tender connoisseur so definitely these are in my top 3 of tender places. The service! Wow I loved out waiter. Outdoor seating is dog friendly, they brought out the perfect small sized water bowls for our stroller pups. They had 2 for 1 drink specials today (Friday, 430pm). The strawberry margaritas are good and we also enjoyed the app sampler of spinach dip, onion petals, and mozzarella sticks. Service is ok, but quite amateur-ish... it's hit or miss with the waitstaff, some are genuinely trying to provide good service, others just want to hang out on the sides, chew gum and gossip. We told the wait staff and got a shrug and off handed, "Happy Birthday are you ready to order?" Well ok, maybe 68, 70, and 80 year old folks should not expect any acknowledgement. Yeah it's a sport bar but a pretty good one. Little late writing this but when we were visiting friends in The Villages, they took us to Gator's Dockside in Brownwood. Nice area and they have been able to recreate the feel of many of the small towns in Florida 40 years ago. In particular it reminds me of the old section of Crystal River. Gator's Dockside is a typical Sports Bar with a good menu and good execution behind it. There were four of us and each had something a little different. I had the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich. While the sauce was a bit mild, the chicken was delicious and the portion size was enormous. My wife had one of her favorites which was a Monte Cristo and it was good as well. Portion size was more than ample and if we were at home, she probably would have taken the rest home but traveling on vacation does not generally afford you that option. One of our friends had the Grilled Chicken Sandwich while the other had the Seabreeze Salad which was Mandarin Orange/Dried Cranberries/Candied Pecans/Bleu Cheese Crumbles along with Chopped Chicken Breast on a bed of Greens. The Chicken Sandwich look inviting while the Salad look especially good. A nice light luncheon respite. As I indicated, it's a typical sports bar with plenty of big screen TV's.
