Had a choice of TWO on Friday evening, we decided to check out Gators. Food and choices were top notch, seating area CLEAN and open. NO STRANGE SMELLS and the workers were friendly. I ordered the mussels with garlic bread and boudin balls. Very happy with my choice, BUT so many things to come back and try. I will definitely come back for the Creole Spaghetti, or the Fried Oysters. I would say that booths and a little more Cajun decor would help make the place more relaxing. My spouse and I ordered several items, including the boudin balls, catfish, shrimp po'boy, and gumbo. The older gentleman working there was very friendly and provided good service. I can understand why people who haven't had authentic--or even moderately authentic--Creole or Cajun food might enjoy this place. Unfortunately, that wasn't my experience. One reviewer mentioned that some of the fried items tasted frozen, and I have to agree. It was especially noticeable with the boudin balls. The gumbo was overly oily, and I'm fairly certain the sausage was hot dogs rather than smoked sausage or andouille. Whatever recipe they're using for the gumbo needs significant improvement, or it should be removed from the menu altogether. The catfish was average, and my spouse described the po'boy as okay. I will say that they used jumbo shrimp on the po'boy, which was a nice touch. In total, we spent around $80. At that price point, I expected food quality that better matched the cost. I'm glad I had the opportunity to try Gators for myself, but unfortunately, I won't be returning, and I wouldn't recommend it to someone looking for authentic Cajun or Creole cuisine. read more

I had a phenomenal experience at the new gators in Collinsville! I ordered the fried catfish basket for $18.99 which included 2 fried catfish fillets (not swai) fries, Cole slaw and hush puppies. They have frozen alcoholic drinks on tap and a full bar. The place was clean and neat and service was good because the owner rang me up. First, walking in everything was clean & barely anyone there but there was a lot of takeout/doordash orders. I got the 6 piece wing with fries (lemon pepper) & the red beans & rice. Everything was hot. Wings & fries were seasoned well but the red beans & rice needed some more salt/seasoning but I still liked it! The table was wobbly & there was a fly around but other than needing seasoning, touch up to the tables & less flys it was good. 8/10, I would go back for the wings & fries. read more

I was excited to try this new place. It was great! I had the lobster mac and cheese and the jumbo shrimp , both were so good! The lobster mac is enough for 2 people (had so much leftover, and im a foodie lol) I cant wait to go again and try other items. Big menu, lots of seafood, and plenty of seating. The man who takes the orders was so helpful and such a cool guy. Definitely recommend this place if you're in the area. read more

My family and I love this style of food, but sadly we couldn't get any. We drove all the way to Gator's, my family and I walked in and waited. No one came to greet us. We stood around and watched as only 1 table of customers was present (and during that time they had eaten their meal) and no workers. We waited and waited. No one was around still. Service was absolutely awful. We sat for 10 minutes before ordering. The drinks took 5 minutes to come out. We sat for 45 more minutes before the food even started to trickle out. Mind you we were one of 2 tables. Another couple came in and ordered and received their food easily 10 minutes before us. We ordered a couple appetizers, and never received them. The food was pretty good and the waitress was awesome, we received our food pretty quick and it was still hot! Our waitress Asia was very kind, caring and always checked on us. The food tasted as advertised, Louisiana cooking. The gator bites, pretty good. The fried catfish, fillets and whole were cooked to perfection. The red beans and rice with sausage outstanding. I was very excited to see this style of restaurant come to our community, but unfortunately, my experience was disappointing. Having family from Louisiana, I'm quite familiar with how red beans and rice should look and taste. The version served here did not meet those expectations. The beans appeared to be canned (which was noticeable), and the dish included pinto beans with a broth that was unusually thin and almost clear. Traditionally, red beans and rice are made with red or kidney beans, and the sauce has a richer, darker, reddish-brown consistency. Additionally, the seasoning was lacking, resulting in a rather bland flavor, and the rice was overcooked and mushy. The boudin balls were decent, but not particularly memorable. Overall, the meal did not live up to what I had hoped for, and I ended up going to another local restaurant afterward to find something more enjoyable. read more

Apparently, this a newer restaurant. We came in mid-day, but there was a large influx just after us. We were glad to see it and even more so for the food. Fish tacos, gator po'boy, and a something burrito. Also, a side of red beans and rice that had a little smoke. Good for y'all for setting up camp where you did. Be very careful of this new business on several fronts. tonight an order that we placed on their ordering site provided us a receipt of our order and we also received an immediate text from our bank confirming the transaction. 20 minutes later, when I arrived to pick up the order, I was told that the order was not received - there was no effort to look at my phone screen shots of the order, prices, or bank transaction. there was no effort at customer service - they just said that our bank 'probably' wouldn't complete the transaction. so I left prepared to stop the bank processing. 15 minutes later, they called and said our order finally came thru and they would prepare it. 20 minutes later, again, I attempted a pickup. I was then told that our order still hadn't come thru and asked me to repeat it. when I provided it, I was told that I would need to pay for it - and that they would reimburse me if our bank processed it twice. I made the payment, waited again, and was finally given the order a full 90 minutes after it was initially placed online. I told the onsite manager (Rich) that businesses often experience operational issues that can't always be controlled (like online ordering systems) - but that one part of their business can always be controlled - customer service. this place is a long way from providing good customer service. please be carefully - especially with the prices that are charged. read more

Very Expensive. We ordered the gumbo and the lobster mac & cheese. The plates were hot the food was not. We sent our food back and the plates were so hot we used napkins to remove them from the tray - Food was luke warm. Best thing we had was the peach cobbler and it wasn't all that great. - It was hot at least. They don't have muffuletta either. Staff was nice enough. read more
