What a find!! As DDD fans and full time RVers, we're always looking for that Diamond in the haystack. BB's is the best find in years. This is a call out to all locals to support places like BB's because they are getting much harder to find. Firstly, the staff went above and beyond. We were there during a Cards game, and the bartender,David, actually came out and found a place for us to park. Who does that today?? Then we got a chance to meet the chef, Samantha. She's from New Orleans and brings a NOLA menu that's as good....if not better, then anything we've had in the Quarter. Then, it was fun trading music stories with the owner, John. Overall, the best brunch we've been to in a long time!! Now.... let's talk food: - The pulled pork tamales are the best I've ever had. The pork was cooked perfectly and very flavorful. then it was covered with great chili, two over medium eggs, 1/2 sliced avocado, and chopped onions. I was in heaven. The biscuits/gravy was good, but the sample of their red beans and a sample of gumbo.... was better then I've ever had....anywhere! And then their was the beignets. Again...better then Cafe Dumonds! This is such a fun place. My wife and I have been here a couple times. The first time was just us, on a Friday night around 9pm, the place was busy and we sat shared a table. That day we only got appetizers and drinks, everything was good. The marinara sauce (that comes with toaste raviolis) was really good. And they have good selection of beers. The second time we went was with a group if friends and this time we did get food, the steak sandwich was super good! And the gumbo (which my wife ordered) was really tasty too. One of our friends, who got the ribs did not say a single word until after he finished, when he pointed out that those ribs were delicious. Both time the music have been good, really entertaining, looking forward to coming back, they print out the monthly calendar in the menu, so you can't miss it. read more

Wow! I wish we would have checked this place at sooner. We, my husband and I, went on a Friday night at 8:30, the place was pretty busy the waitress told us to join another table. The upstairs area was closed. We joined a gentleman visiting from out of town. The artist was super great and fun. They played until 10pm at which pint the bands started to switch over. We didn't to hear the next act. Not only was the music super fun, the food and beer selection were on point. We could have eaten a really nice meal here. Instead we just got snacks, some beers, fries (with yummy siracha ranch) and toasted raviolis with a super good marinara sauce. Great selection of beers as well. Very impressed, we will bring our friends from out of town here to show them the highlights of St Louis. Came in on a Monday night after being horribly disappointed next door at the oyster bar. Some guy named Daryl Darden was in to play some blues. Seems like he only had his keyboard player with him, but he picked up the owner of the bar to play bass, Catfish jumped on the drums, and Ferguson sat in playing some mean guitar. Let me tell you about this Daryl dude. Before Catfish jumped on the drums, he gave up his lead guitar to Ferguson and took on the percussion himself. Then while giving the band a break, he and John the owner just jammed to entertain the crowd. Dudes just kept on coming in with guitars and the jam session went on. Never seen anything like it. Way cool. Regarding the venue, it's a quaint old place setup like a bowling ally. Long and narrow. Amber was my server and did a great job with the craft IPAs. All I ordered was the crab chowder. It was fine, but only Luke warm. Came with a huge corn muffin. Very tastey. Ferguson, sitting in front of me, got the ribs. They smelled devine! read more

I have always luv'd to come and listen to the Blues at BB's. The ambiance is just right for a 'blues' spot. The seating is a bit tight, but it is to be expected. This night both acts were great- Carolyn Mason as the opening act was good and Skeet Rogers set it off just right. It was a 'free' event sponsored by the National Blues Museum. Upon arrival, my party selected seats on the wall close enough to see the stage but still be 'out' of the way. How disappointing it was to be told we needed to move because the sponsor needed 18 seats. There were no signs posted stating the seats were reserved. We had been there for an hour (ordered drinks and food from their limited menu). It was highly frustrating. The rep scoped and negotiated with someone to allow us to take their table (he was a member of the band). Things worked out, but it was truly hard to get back in a good mental place. The service was horrendous! The person who took our order brought our drinks and 2 of our parties food. The other 2 waited over an hour before going to the bar to ask for status. The staff were not helpful- literally they had our waitress (who said she is actually the manager), another waitress, a guy who I suspect has some ownership of the place- was bussing tables, bringing food, and making a drink or two, 1 bartender and 1 or 2 cooks). The house was packed both up and downstairs. It was mayhem to say the least. Our waitress never came back to check on us. I had to go to the bar and get a pitcher of margaritas for 4 of us. We would have had more, but it was just too hard getting the bartender's attention... I like to give the benefit of doubt; however, this is the 2nd time I've been here within the last 8-10 months and the service was just as bad. The food was good before, and it wasn't bad on this night. However, a plain small cheese burger with a couple pickles & packs of ketchup should not cost $7. The grilled wings were great. I hope the business is able to turn things around because it used to be a nice place to dine, drink and listen to good live music. read more

It's late on a Sunday night and the downtown St.Louis website was coming up short with activities for us to check out - lo and behold, BB's saved the day with a 10 pm reggae dubelectronix show. How beautiful - I love all three forms of music. There was literally only one open table in the whole place when we strolled in at 9:30 p.m. I couldn't get enough of the colorful mixture of people at this bar. It felt a bit like heaven only with a side of soup to boot. Prices are super affordable regarding drinks and eats both (full liquor bar and selection of MO beers) as well as an extensive menu featuring everything from the namesake soups (try the potato! So good) and red beans and rice to hummus and pita and sandwiches. Cover was $5 but well worth it. This establishment offers an authentic local feel in which the audience is yelling out to performers and vice versa and the whole crowd is in a super-relaxed mood. Needless to say, we'll return the next time we find ourselves in St.Louis. read more

We visited BB's on a Saturday afternoon for a late lunch and to see a live band. We were told upon arrival that there would be a $15 cover for each adult added to our bill. We agreed and were seated near the stage. Our servers were attentive and we looked over the menu choices. I settled on a pork BBQ sandwich with mac-n-cheese after the server said it was a popular choice. My son ordered fried chicken that arrived in sandwich form and my wife ordered a salad. Unfortunately, the pork BBQ was a big disappointment. It was so wet that it soaked through the bun before I could finish it and lacked flavor. The mac-n-cheese did not appear to be anything more than Kraft variety. My son reported that the chicken was pretty dry and it looked that way to me. My wife said that her salad was good. For a menu that prominently features pork and beef BBQ, the BBQ should be better...especially in a BBQ town. For all the hype surrounding it, pork BBQ is really a fairly easy cook. A homemade mac-n-cheese recipe could be easily addressed. We might have tried the soups except for the 100 degree temperatures outside, so I can't comment on those. Overall, the bar has a nice atmosphere, but the cover charge was way too high for an afternoon show that wasn't all that great. Heck, even the drummer was yawning! The food could be a lot better and combined with the cover charges made for a hefty bill. I'm afraid we would not do this again. read more

Come for the music and enjoy the delicious southern food! We split the Combination Special which was delicious - moist and infused with smokey BBQ flavor! For $19.95 we got smoked ribs, chicken, and pulled pork with homemade deep-fried cheese grits with spicy pepper jack cheese sauce, fresh potato salad, cole slaw, and collard greens. The BBQ sauce was delicious and tasted homemade. The collard greens were a little over cooked but still tasty. I would suggest a double serving of the potato salad over the cabbage. Colby, our server, was awesome and very attentive (plus he gave us good tips on wear to sit to enjoy the music). The Pecan Pie was good - not "out of this world" - but good and tasted homemade. The couple next to us actually ordered the same dishes and seemed similarly pleased. For a $10 cover we got to enjoy three solid bands play the blues, some jazz, and even a little reggae. We made reservations for this location online. Once we got there, not only did they not have our reservation in the system; but they had overbooked for the venue and live music. On the plus side, the facility did refund me back the $60 I paid for the table which I do appreciate. Unfortunately, we were from out of town; so we had to get an Uber there and then back to the hotel as it was already late and we could not make reservations elsewhere. So, inevitably it still cost me almost $60 for transportation. Very small location. Ownership/Management need to find a way to manage reservations better during this pandemic. Luckily, and hopefully; things will ease up soon and this may not happen to other travelers trying to enjoy all the aspects and restaurants in the St. Louis area. I used to love coming to this place for the food as much as the music. Don't come for the good anymore. I realize there is a limited menu because of what is going on but it is sorely lacking. No signature hush puppies available. While the wings were juicy the sauce was flavorless and no different than a fast food version. The ribs were dry; probably leftovers from days prior. Great spot for live music. They do well scheduling live acts and they place is lively. This visit, there was a $10 cover and the band didn't start until 10:30p vs the stated 8:30p start time. Kinda disappointing considering a large amount people left around 9/930p. I don't know if it was because they were tired of waiting on the band to start or what. Drinks here are good and they have a full kitchen. I didn't try any of the food, but the menu had a good variety of food to choose from. It was late but since we were in St. Louis, my friends and hubby wanted to go to a jazz club. We were staying at the Hyatt Regency right next to the Gateway Arc so we asked the Concierge for suggestions. He told us there was one right down the street called BB's. It was a chilly night but since it was only a few blocks away, we decided to be tourists and hoof it. The closer we got to the club the more sketchy the neighborhood became; but since we had guys with us, it didn't deter us. We arrived right before it got crowded so we were able to be seated close to to stage. It must have been Reggae night; not what we were expecting but we were also hungry so we parked it. The food wasn't anything to mention but our appetizers were delicious: deep fried ravioli, deep fried cheese grits and moist delicious cornbread. We enjoyed the show for the first couple of hours but after that the music started to sound monotonous. Jazzed indeed! Got to listen to some SERIOUS jazz on this night of all nights. Got lucky for sure! They had some twin saxophones playing with drums and electric piano mixed in. Heard me some Dexter Gordon tunes, as well as a little Take 5 going on there.. Atmosphere is really what you should expect in a place like this, a little noisy, a little busy, a little annoying. And yes folks, that does include the service which may/may not be good depending on crowd and control of it. This was a fine, warm night and the sound was perfect. We went upstairs because it was so crowded below, and that looked like the best kept secret because we had a great view from above. I might have just blown that now, but nonetheless, it was cozy up there and you just head to the bartender and he will take care of you, and get you that cold drink. read more

Great Music! BUT we wanted food too. hehe. Do not expect good service, it will not come. They are not impressed that you have an empty glass nor that you have been waiting for 5 minutes or even 10. They will get there when they can. Our waiter seemed to be the manager. He was very polite and got our order right but he was covering the whole place with one other waiter. The food was average at best. There is a Cajun/Oysters place not more then a block away that is SO much better so I would come here for the music and a couple drinks and then go eat or reverse that. :) Go for the Music but leave because the food won't come anyways. Talk about an authentic jazz club right in the heart of St. Louis! I do regret eating before we came here because the food looked amazing and there was a man smoking meat outside that smelled heavenly. The stage almost looked like a set for a play back from the 1960's and I felt like I was in a time warp. I didn't want to step back out into 2016 once the band finished playing but I'm glad that I did because the man that worked at the front offered us box seats to the last 3 innings of the game down the street! So nice! The drinks are cheap but there is a $5 cover charge that surprised me. In my opinion it was well worth it for the great live music and ambiance. I would much rather come here before a game than the highly commercialized, over crowded ballpark village. read more

This is what was real: Danger Zone Band 9PM-whenever, $20.00 cover, if you show up without a reservation, standing room only. This is also what is real: They don't have enough staff. Final reality check: Danger Zone is a 90's cover band that cannot afford in-ears so they are flat as hell. We left after the first song. Not blues, not Jazz, not fusion, but Prince in the key of D Flat. There are venues that a) communicate with their patrons, b) staff their bar, and c) hire bands that can sing in key. The staff is friendly, the room has kind of a cool charm but if your purpose is to enjoy a good performance forget about it. This is one of these clubs that has music going all day and night so chances are if you going to see a featured performer there will be patrons leftover from the previous one who don't really give a shit. On the evening i was there people were constantly chattering at volumes trying to compete with an electric band, continually getting up and down to go to the toilet or whatever and it is a very distracting enviroment. Definitely appeals to the beer-by-the-bucketload crowd. Regarding food i have no idea since we were counting on eating there and the kitchen was closed (possibly for reapairs) but they were ok with a Grubhub delivery if you wanted to eat. For right now i would suggest BB's put a piece of black electrical tape over the word Soups. I won't be returning . read more

GREAT place for music. The food is okay, but the real reason for coming here is the great mix of live music on any given night. It stays open late and the atmosphere is cool. It's a small place, but really has a dive meets lounge sort of feel. The red beans and rice is a very generous portion and has smoked ham, Cajun peppers and spices, but I found it a bit bland even with all that. I liked the Louisiana gumbo, though. It really was a hearty mix of peppers, onions, okra, chicken, shrimp, andouille sausage, Cajun spices and file, served with rice and cornbread. I'd go for this over the toasted ravioli any day. And though the sweet potato fries are something still novel around here, they are usually kind of greasy and limp. Too bad. We need more sweet potato fries in this town! read more

Never ate here but each time I was here, the music rocked. One distinct memory was going here with my dad when I was 20. Getting beer and not being ID'd (assuming because I was with the parental unit). Nice father-son bonding experience. If you're in St. Louis, you gotta check this place out, it is great. The drinks were not at all close to what the recipes should have been (Long Island and Old Fashioned). Old fashioned was made with Marachino cherries and orange slices, no simple syrup. And the Long Island was made with real iced tea as the main ingredient. Our waiter didn't know the alcohol options at all. Then the bathrooms were pretty repulsive. Stopped in with the family on a game night after seeing the arch at night! Get the fried green tomatoes! Awesome they do them right! Stopped for the blues band from Chicago was excellent! I got the Bb's burger did not disappoint excellent very large portions! Son the turkey club sandwich was good. We both got the regular fries not that good on fries. My wife and I went here to relax on a quick get away weekend. Cover was $15/person, which is not bad considering there was to be 3 bands playing. Found out that there was a birthday party going on for Marquise Knox, whom I had never heard of. Turns out his band was the last act and this guy could straight up play and sing. His music was awesome!!! This is exactly what I needed and this young man delivered even more! Bought all his albums when I got home! Wait staff was great and the atmosphere wreaks of great blues! We came here a little while ago to celebrate a friend's birthday. We came in a large group and ended up getting a table upfront, in close proximity to the band. I think this place has a lot of potential to be great, but there were a few minor issues for me. The food was decent. I ordered a pulled chicken sandwich and really enjoyed it with the angry hush puppies. It was quite a bit of food though so I had a lot left to take home. I think everybody loved what they ordered so you cannot go wrong here. The only problem I had was the service was a little slow. In their defense they were with a really large group and pretty crowded. Heads up they charge a cover, which seemed a fairly modest amount (about $5). But when I couldn't really enjoy the atmosphere, it seemed a little overpriced. The music was great, but when we came, nobody was dancing. It was also too loud to hear the person sitting next to you. Maybe I came with the wrong expectations in mind, but I would only recommend this place as a great venue for listening to Jazz more so than a restaurant. That said, I would love to come back, but probably for a late night session to just listen to some music. read more
