WOW!!! I was surprised at how fast I received my food and it was fresh! The chicken bites were flavorful and cooked to perfection. The hush puppies were delicious and melted in your mouth and who doesn't love potatoes so of course the wedges were fire too. I'm not sure what the remoulade is but I can say I dipped EVERYTHING in it - I want a bottle of that at home. So so so good and so upset with myself for not trying them sooner. Gumbo 2 Geaux is the perfect place to dine on Friday during Lent. I went for one of my favorites, Clam Strips, but they were sold out. Since there were no clams, I went for the Catfish Basket. The Catfish Basket had multiple catfish fritters, steak fries and two hush puppies. They also provided a cup full of sliced onions and pickles. Plus, a small serving of Remoulade. I enjoyed the cajun breading on the catfish, it had a flavorful spicy kick. The steak fries were cut fat and thick and I liked the seasoning. For me, they could have been crispier. The Hush Puppies were good, but I was disappointed when I saw a box of Classic Hush Puppies being delivered by their supplier. Homemade Hush Puppies are so much more flavorful. They've been promoting, Barq's Creme Soda on FB and Creme Soda was a favorite when I was growing up, so I couldn't resit ordering one. It was cool, refreshing and brought back flashes of memories. Oh, it was also a great accompaniment beverage to my Lent dinner. Customer Service is good, because chances are you will be waited on by one of the owners. Excellent, excellent Cajun food and great service oh my goodness! The seafood gumbo over rice was loaded with protein, and you can tell they make their roux from scratch. The shrimp po'boy had very thinly sliced pickles to cut through the remoulade (solid condiment by the way), with crisp, well-seasoned shrimp on a crisp, fluffy, grilled roll. The red beans and rice came with smoke and a gentle kick, and the cornbread was a pleasant surprise - a complex fore flavor with a lingering buttery sweetness. I would dine here again! read more

Extraordinary! Creepy! Choose one! This is an old Dairy Queen that has been converted to a Cajun restaurant. And it's only creepy because I've eaten ice cream here years ago. It's not really creepy creepy. And the food is extraordinary. I ate here last weekend with friends and we pretty much ordered the menu. We love Cajun and I just wanted to know what the deal is with this place. So let me just say this. It's real. It's Cajun. It's like eating in Louisiana. Personally I don't like gumbo, but that's not because of gumbo 2 geaux. Everything else I ate I loved! Check out the pictures and I think you'll see why. It's been a while since I've shared how much we LOVE Gumbo 2 Geaux &, we recently fell in love with their King Cakes so mentioning them here! They have been selling them by the slice which is so cool and lets you try various flavors instead of ordering a whole one but, I am pretty sure once you try a slice you'll be placing an order for a whole one like we did! I ate here a while back. Honestly, the food was not as expected. The owner and staff are very nice. The restaurant is a little dated.

We were excited to try this new Cajun-style restaurant, and the food did not disappoint! We were the first ones in the door at opening and ordered to dine inside. The Crab Cakes, Messy Wedges, and Crawfish Ravioli were all amazing. The rice was slightly undercooked, but the sauce and main ingredients were absolutely delicious. Since it was our first visit, we ordered directly from the menu. We later noticed many other guests ordering the lobster mac & cheese--which we definitely would have tried (and even taken to go) had we known about it sooner. After realizing we had forgotten dessert, we placed an order for two slices of King Cake to go about 15 minutes after our lunch order. Unfortunately, this took an additional 45 minutes to receive. Be prepared for longer waits--anywhere from 20 to 60 minutes for food. The staff that day seemed a bit overwhelmed and struggled with ticket organization. Several customers picking up pre-ordered King Cakes were told it would be at least an hour, or staff couldn't locate their orders. We also witnessed a couple of customers return because half of their orders were missing. It was Mardi Gras weekend, so definitely a peak time, and the staff clearly could have used more support. That said, everyone remained patient and understanding through the hiccups. Would I come back? Absolutely. The food was excellent, and the turtle King Cake slices were incredible! I'd recommend having a visible board listing daily specials, available "by-the-slice" King Cake flavors, and dessert or donut options. There were so many things we would have loved to try but didn't realize were available. Overall, a great hidden gem with fantastic food--and tons of potential as things smooth out. read more

Just popping in to say that Gumbo 2 Geaux is one of my Geaux 2s (it was right there, I had to). They've expanded for breakfast hours, and if you haven't had their shrimp and grits you're seriously missing out. I highly recommend keeping an eye out for their specials, which they do every once in a while. I got their special crab dip the other day, and it was incredible. I've also been on a po boy kick. 17/10!!! Let me just say, living in the Midwest -- it's the biggest heartbreak not being able to just walk into a restaurant and order authentic Gumbo! We are in town for a sporting event and I knew I had to stop by here! The gumbo was absolutely d e l i c i o u s & the strawberry crumb cake was also to die for! I called head for my order because my family isn't seafood (of any kind) eaters. So I ate while we drove to their restaurant of choice! You definitely could get the sense of NOLA as soon as you walked in! It was fully decked out with Mardi Gras & all things New Orleans! Also as if you were in Nola! I usually grab a King Cake at Schnucks for my Mardi Gras party, but I was elated to find out Gumbo 2 Geaux was selling them this year. I enjoyed all the Mardi Gras decorations while picking up the cake. The king cake came out looking spectacular. I was thrilled and felt it was worth the $45 price tag. There was an ordering snafu where they messed up the time of my order, and I had to come back the following day to get it. Thankfully I had planned to pick it up a day early, or my guests would have been very disappointed. When we tasted it that night, the flavor lived up to the look. Absolutely delicious food and the kindest employees! This is the best Cajun food I've ever had outside of New Orleans, and better than some food I've eaten there. We ordered the gator bites, seafood gumbo, crawfish ravioli, and messy wedges. The gator was crunchy and juicy without being greasy, the hush puppies were crunchy and fantastic, and the gumbo had just the right amount of spice. Wow. My husband and I just came here for the first time. I got the shrimp poboy and holy smokes!!! It was sooo hot, fresh, had the perfect amount of kick and the bread was out of this world. We came here for breakfast. They serve breakfast until 10am. We arrived at approximately 9:45. The owner just might be one of the best parts of the restaurant. She graciously took our orders and offered excellent advice on menu choices. The cold brew does not disappoint. I ask lots of questions about ingredients and she had all of the answers. I ordered the shrimp and grits, 2 eggs, gumbo, beignets and corn bread. It was all beyond my expectations. The spice level is perfect. Everything was flavorful and made fresh with quality ingredients. The beignets were light and delicious. My husband and I filled up and have plenty of leftovers. I can't wait to go back! read more

It seems some cajun places try too hard by over doing it with cayenne pepper. Not Gumbo 2 Geaux, they season things just right! This is a small business. Ran by a couple. I have not met the wife. But the husband could not be any nicer. They are mostly geared around food to go, hence the name. But they do have two for top tables inside and outside dining as well. Heard about Gumbo 2 Geaux while getting a really bad pedicure (see my reviews for Posh Nail Lounge) and NEEDED to try it out. Took two weeks to find the time, but Mom and I loved it. My shrimp po boy was excellent. Mom loved her crab cakes. The wedges were good and the corn was great. More importantly, the customer service was excellent. Troy, the owner/chef was friendly and attentive and appreciative of our compliments and the rest of his staff was wonderful. We will be back. I need some gumbo and some shrimp and grits and Mom really want the seafood baked potato. Seriously, if you live in the Alton/Edwardsville/Glen Carbon/et al area and like good food, go. NOW. One warning: there's space for MAYBE eight people inside...this really is Gumbo 2 Geaux, so plan on picking up and eating happy in your own home. Soooo freaking worth it!!! read more

Service is quick and thorough - the staff does not waste a moment. They have a drive thru - it's not really meant for eating in, BUT a plethora of picnic tables outside make for a wonderful family dinner. Positive remarks - The food is good, the place is clean, the service is very friendly. I want to see this place thrive. Negative remarks - The prices are pretty high, the portions are pretty small. Especially the items that are served with rice, you get A LOT of rice and a small amount of the main ingredient. The Crawfish Étouffée sauce was great, but tasted mainly of clams. I love clams and enjoyed it but based off of the flavor you really couldn't tell that there was crawfish in it. It cost over $90 for me to feed 4 people. I would find more value in the menu if the baskets came with fries, and the main dishes included corn bread, not to mention the portions that aren't rice be a little larger. For me that's the only thing holding this place back. read more

Gumbo was literally all broth and no meat. I paid $21 for literally broth. My beans and rice was so burnt I couldn't even eat it.. beans tasted like they were cooked in a burnt pot. The alligator po boy was extremely chewy and unpleasan. I laid $60 plus dollars for food that should never be served to a customer. When I called to get a refund I was told to call back on Monday as the worker could not help me. This is a horrible policy to make a paying customer wait that long to get an issue resolved. I'm highly upset with this experience and I don't plan on going back. read more
