I understand with Covid going on things might be different. I got the rice ball appetizer they gave one to me and one to my date. Really? For $10+ you only get two small rice balls? Then my date got the prime rib with absolutely no sauce, no gravy for the mash or red wine sauce no butter on top for $43. My penne vodka was water. Bravo!!! Our first time at this hidden gem in the quiet but happening hamlet of Armonk. From our bar drinks to our desserts - everything was delish. The 6 of us had amazing appetizers. From the spicy calamari to the sautéed artichokes, pappardelle with wild boar,fettuccine with crab & artichoke ,eggplant rollatini...the portions were enough to share among all of us,and each dish more delicious then the next. For Main dishes, the chef accommodated 2 diner's with Veal Parmigiana (not listed on menu) Scallopini Martini, a specialty of the house ,rack of lamb , chicken Scarpariello & monk fish (special fish of the day.)Again each outstanding. Dessert ... the chocolate polenta cake , a surprisingly delightful delicacy, and the Tiramisu heavenly!. Franco & his staff were top notch and very accommodating. We visited Gavi restaurant in Armonk after not having been there for over 3 years. To be honest, 3 years ago, the place was awful. You can read my review on another site. However, we decided to give Gavi another chance. Last night the place was FANTASTIC! The food was on point and absolutely delicious. I asked for a substitution of chicken instead of veal for their martini dish and this was no problem. My husband had their risotto shrimp special and it was mouth watering. My son enjoyed the spinach pasta offering. Although my son did not care for his salad, it was the only thing that was off. The bus boy was genuinely concerned as to what he did not like. I ordered a Malibu Bay Breeze and it had just the right tropical blend. Service was too notch. There is adequate parking also. Gavi, I'm happy we gave you another shot. Prices were competitive and fair. Save room for dessert. We can't wait to see you again. read more

Gavi Gavi Gavi....oh where to begin....the beginning I guess. Had always stayed away because of the inconsistent reviews, but decided to give the place a shot. 8pm reservation, wife and I walk in. No one at hostess stand. Gentlemen walks up to us and says, 'Yes'...that's it, just 'Yes'. Note our 8pm reservation and he walks away. No "one minute please", nothing. Wife and I stare at each other, 'should we follow him'? We just wait. A few minutes later the nice bartender walks over and asks us if we are being helped to which we reply we honestly don't know. She goes up to the gentleman that originally 'greeted' us, and tells him we are an 8pm reservation and he shoos her away saying he's got it. "Follow me". We are led to our table, grease spots on the linens and all, and the waiter asks us if we want a drink. Wife wants glass of wine, I would like a glass of 'whiskey'. "We have "Jack Daniels, Makers Mark" he starts, "Do you have any others?" I ask. Why don't you tell me what you'd like, we have a million back there." I proceed to mention a few, they have none of them. I offer to go and look behind the bar, behind which other than Jack Daniels, Southern Comfort and Markers Mark, there's nothing. I'll have a vodka tonic. Order apps and dinner, I get their version of the Caprese salad. Now mind you this is not a tough dish to get right - fresh mozzarella, fresh vine tomatoes, and a leaf of basil. This had to be the worst caprese salad ever, and I mean ever. The mozzarella was store bought from A&P...dry, thick pieces that had a terrible after taste. The tomatoes were not ripe, tough, and thick. The single leave of basil was the best part. An hour later after multiple inquiries, we finally get our food - the pasta special which was shredded veal over linguine and a porcini crusted red snapper. "Meh" could be best used to explain both, and there was very little veal in the pasta, quite a bit up store bought pre-sliced mushrooms though. Waiter apologized for the wait, and said the chef was offering us free coffee and dessert. I nice, and warranted gesture, but we demurred, saying we had to be elsewhere. Chef actually came out and apologized. Nice tough, they comped the liquor, but we won't be going back. The food doesn't merit a second chance. read more

We went with my parents to this restaurant about a week ago. My folks were 10 minutes early, we were 10 minutes late. When we got there, my mom mentioned that they had been there for 20 minutes, and in that time they were offered neither a drink nor a menu. As she was telling me this, a waiter walked by, and she somewhat impatiently said, "Can we see menus?!" and the waiter gave her attitude! In an annoyed tone, he said that he'll be there in a minute! I was up in a flash, asking to speak to a manager. My mom's actually one of the sweetest, most patient people I know, and I have no doubt that she had the courage to speak up because we were there with her. Seeing the waiter talk to her like that had me seeing red. I told the manager what happened, and she more than remedied the issue. She immediately gave us a different waiter, and he treated us with attention and consideration the entire meal. The food was outstanding, truly exceptional, as we had heard, and the fact that the manager took my complaint seriously and completely turned the experience around for us impressed us to no end. We'll certainly be back. The manager and the rest of the wait staff did right by us, and I hope I've shown how impressed we are by passing on a review about what could have been a very frustrating experience but instead was an extremely positive and impressive one. Gavi Restaurant is one of my favorite places! The food is absolutely amazing and fresh. My favorite dish is the trenette riva. It is a generous portion of fresh pasta with shrimp and crabmeat. I order it every time i go there. Also the bartender is really fantastic. He makes the best drinks and is very personable. I love the marcellatini and their famous cannoli martini. No other restaurant around has anything like them. Gavi is definitely one of the best restaurants and worth visiting. read more

2 couples on a Saturday night - sat in the bar area - place was packed - we had 3 of the freshest salads and mussels that were all great. One ravioli special, one chicken scap, one veal martini and one pork tenderloin. All were very good with the exception of the veal. Taste wasn't quite right and the string beans were hard as a rock and the two pieces of potato they gave you were tasteless. Service was spotty. Give it a try. read more

More of a local place than a destination (maybe 15 minutes from my house but we met a dear friend who lives nearby). This was probably my 9th or 10 time there over a 3 or 4 year span. Food is always delicious, service always spot on from a staff that knows their audience and aims to please. Had an orichiette with crumbled sausage special that was delicious, with the pasta cooked just right. Have had Veal Martini and Chicken Scarpiella there as well, and have always been very pleased. Also, prices are very fair, for 3 people with appetizers, main courses and coffee, the check was $115 pre tip. If you have the opportunity, check Gavi out. read more

Went there with a group of 20 or so on a week night. The staff was friendly and attentive. The menu has a wide selection and they had a fair number of specials available that evening. Drove up from Bridgeport,Ct for an early lunch on Tuesday.Parking lot right in front of restaurant.I sat right near the bar area.Nice looking interior with two rooms.I started off with a nice warm bread basket which came with a lentil chickpea spread.I ordered an ensalada siciliana with arugala,fennel,olives and oranges.Delicious.For my entrée I had chicken scarpariello,with chunks of chicken,artichoke hearts,roasted potatoes,sausage and cherry peppers.Also delicious.Nice service,and excellent food. read more

If you want to go to a place where you feel like you are part of a family, then look no further. The food was incredible and authentic. The owner, Frank, works behind the bar and also offers excellent wine recommendations. It's a place that clearly has a following in the community, where everyone knows each other and has its regulars. We ordered way too much food because we wanted to sample lots of options. We started with the Arancini Bolognese, which I'd highly recommend - a very large arancini filled with house made bolognese and a tomato sauce on the side that was to die for. We hadn't gotten enough of the bolognese, so we also had the gnocchi bolognese as well as the Mezza Paccheri Amatriciana, which had the perfect amount of spice and acidity in the tomato sauce and rich with flavor. Moving on to entrees, we went for both the Scaloppine alla Gavi and the Prime Rib Eye. The marsala sauce was fabulous and not too sweet (which I personally am sensitive to) and the veal was pounded out to perfect thinness. The Prime Rib Eye was one of the biggest we've ever had (and we've eaten at a lot of high end steak restaurants) and was cooked an absolutely PERFECT medium-rare. But don't over look the sides - the garlic on the sauteed spinach got your attention in a way I really enjoyed, but was not over-powering and the mashed potatoes were very smooth in texture and expertly flavored. Last but certainly not least, get the tiramisu. It's presented like a slice of cake and very complex in flavor and not a sugar bomb in the least. And while enjoying this fabulous meal, we had fantastic service from Frank and Fernando who where genuinely interested in talking with us and making us feel welcome. There's one thing you always need to do when you go to Gavi, and that's order the spicy calamari. Hands down, some of the best fried calamari in the county! I would put it up against any restaurant around. It's crispy, tender, fresh, lightly battered and a nice kick from the cherry peppers but not an overwhelming amount of heat. It was outstanding! Next time, I will be ordering two plates. Franco the owner will greet you when you first walk in, he's a class act and I loved the way he treated us and I cannot stress that enough through out this review. The special appetizer with prosciutto wrapped around the bocconcini was very good as well. The hint of salt from the thinly sliced Di Parma paired with with the lightly salted fresh mozzarella, just having them together creates a marvelous experience for your palette. Our waiter paid a lot of attention to our table, and did a very good job, he was a professional. I would suggest, If you can, try sitting in the room to the left by the bar, its not as loud, less crowded and you get more attention which is always nice. I ordered the Pappardelle di Cinghale and It was definitely cooked Al dente. It was good, not great. My preference for Pappardelle is the long and wide type. The pappardelle at Gavi is homemade but it's only a little thicker than fettuccine, and the wild boar was a little tough, slightly dry. My girlfriend ordered the black and white spaghetti with shrimp and zucchini. We both tasted too much butter and truthfully it was hard to enjoy. Next time we go, I'd love to switch it up and go with the linguini alla vongole or keep it simple with the penne alla vodka. Both of those dishes looked very good as well as some others. Our Montepulciano wine was a very good choice. Franco made sure to come up to our table to check on us a few times, I love when owners like that make an effort to interact with the customers, it shows that they truly care. He really is a genuine guy who cares and we loved conversing with him. Very friendly staff, great atmosphere, and the table next to us were locals from Armonk who come all the time. They were a riot, and a pleasure to sit next to. We sparked a convo with them over the spicy calamari which then led to a 2-hour conversation about wine, hot peppers, Italy, restaurants, figs, you name it and we probably talked about it. I will say that parking is somewhat of an issue if all the spots in front are taken up. You are not able to park across the street as it's for residents only, so it's pretty limited especially on a packed night. As a suggestion, I would say go by the nearby parking lot where the offices are, park there and just walk up. it's great vibes in Gavi, nice decor and they provide that old school Italian theme. For dessert we ordered the tiramisu, it was okay, but would of liked to see more mascarpone cream and espresso soaked in. We also ordered Cannoli Martini's which we were extremely excited about, but they were just regular espresso martini's, and they were actually really good. However, prior to coming in, I was looking on their Instagram, and I saw a picture of a creamy martini with a cannoli shell sticking out of it, and thats what we expected to get but that wasn't the case. Franco was nice enough to bring out an extra dessert for us which was good, it was homemade cinnamon chips with cannoli cream in the middle. He also brought us a digestivo called "Punch" I had never tried it before, so it was good to have something new, it was strong but we both enjoyed it. Overall, despite a few mishaps through out the night Franco really took care of us, he provided a wonderful dining experience for us with warm hospitality. We were very grateful to feel so valued as customers. I'm definitely very understanding, and I will give the benefit of the doubt, especially to Gavi because they do so well in business, it's a a lovely place and I know not everything will be perfect at the end of the day. Have gone to Gavi's times before and it was great! This time it was terrible. Last week approx 10/24, my friend and I went. Her order of chicken with fig balsamic was terrible. The chicken was thin like a piece of cold cut and tough. There was no taste of fig at all. I am gluten intolerant and ordered their Veal martini which the description reads "it is crusted with parmesan cheese". After i ate it I was getting stomach cramps and had to go to the bathroom several times. I told the chef who was not very nice about it and said I should have said something to him before but the description does not note there is bread in it. He proceeded to tell me how he wrote the menu and it reads "breaded" and then I showed it to him and it DOES NOT say breaded. It says "crusted with parmesan". He didn't apololgize and treated me and my friend as though we did something wrong. He scarcastically said he can call me an ambulance if I like with a smirk on his face. I told him I do not have the disease but am intolerant of gluten and will have a terrible night because he didn't write the menu correctly. Even the manager with the gray hair was scarcastic and rude. Franco, the owner was not there that night. I do not know if it would have gone differently. I took a pic of the menu and it does not read the way the chef says. I had a terrible night and no one there apologized for their mistake and my misfortune. This was a serious error on their part for someone who is gluten intolerant and it should not be taken lightly and brushed off like it was a bother to them! read more

Walked in the entrance and was hit by a wall of sound. That was the first time I turned around to leave (a unanimous decision by my entire party). I was approached by the maître d' who asked if I wished to try the outside tables, which I opted to try. After being seated (MUCH quieter, by the way) I watched the single waiter attempt to tend to all of the tables and almost left a second time, thinking that the service would be incredibly slow. One of my party spoke to someone inside and we were suddenly offered menus, water, specials options, bread, etc. The meal itself: I had the risotto with calimari special...soggy risotto, ordinary tasting calamari. I tasted a few of the other dishes on the table: everything so-so. I only had sparkling water, but those in my party who had drinks said that they tasted watered-down. Sorry to say, I was disappointed, but thanks to eating outside I was spared permanent tinnitus. read more
