Year after year, Blue Dolphin continues to be my favorite Italian restaurant in the US. It is consistently delicious, the vibe is so homey and comfortable, and the staff and owner, Alfredo, are so warm and welcoming. I have tried most of the menu, and my favorites at the moment are definitely the Penne al Salmone and the Fusili Aum Aum. Both are packed with flavor. Although the price is on the higher end, the portions are sizeable to match, and I almost always have leftovers to take home. Also, I love that the pastas and sauces are all made in-house (at there pasta shop around the corner)!! There is free street parking and a free lot across the street. Not a fan. We wanted a quick bite and thought there would be diner fare. Ordered a panini that had potential. Grilled chicken, radicchio and gorgonzola. It was awful. Slivers of dried out chicken. This was not grilled. I barely tasted the gorgonzola. The French fries were mushy. We were in a rush, so it didn't make sense to send it back. I knew in the back of my mind that the Blue Dolphin "Diner" Ristorante was an Italian eatery, but after an appointment I said to my wife that I was a bit hungry and suggested Blue Dolphin as we've passed it numerous times. We walked in to the "diner", sat in a booth and was given our two page menu (one side food, the other beverages). I said to my wife, surprising menu for a diner, hot and cold appetizers, soups, salads, pasta and entree dishes all in Italian names with detailed descriptions below. I settled on Quadrifogli Buongustaio (Veal Ravioli in a pink sauce with pancetta) my wife had Pollo Caprese (Chicken Cutlet with chopped tomatoes and roasted potatoes). Both dishes were absolutely delicious. The ravioli were super flavorful and the pink sauce was light yet robust. Tasted the chick and it was super tender and thinly pounded. We went around 4:30 and were the only ones there (other diners came in shortly after us) and like any good restaurant we were not rushed by the wait staff. We were given ample time to make a selection and not rushed to decide. If you want to go out with friends to the "diner" take them here and watch their expressions when they are given the menu. We used to love this restaurant. But this time, the shrimp was so overcooked that we couldn't cut it. And the pasta was drowned in sauce, though we specifically asked for light sauce. Salad and bread was okay, nothing extraordinary. Service a little slow considering not all tables were occupied at the time. My meal was fine, eggplant cooked well, pasta al dente. Again, nothing extraordinary. My friend, however, was served the wrong dish. She had ordered lasagne and was told it would be a few more minutes to get the order replaced. Realistically, we should have expected it take longer and it did. Twenty minutes later we had to speak to the manager. To their credit, they did not charge us for her meal. There was a line out the door when we left. I was expecting a better meal based on reviews. I might be convinced to give it another try, but there are other local places I'd try first. read more

I went here for my brother's birthday. It's a very small place with big flavor. I had a special, the Veal Ossobuco, it might've been the best dish I have ever eaten. So much rich flavor in the sauce alongside some handmade Rigatoni. My family had the Farfalle Pesto dish and they loved it. For dessert the Chocolate Mousse cake is a must try! People say they love this restaurant in the below reviews we weren't that impressed. We had the Linguine Pescatore, the calamari was very chewy and didn't taste good. I originally ordered the insalata Mediterranean salad but the waiter said there wasn't any avocado so I switched to the insalata mandorle with shrimp. For the price the shrimp should have been bigger and more ingredients then spinach, cheese and almonds. The waiter looked so annoyed to be there and even tho he was wearing a mask you can see the annoyance in his eyes. We'll stick to the Whitlock down the road. read more

I recommend the veal Ossobuco, but you have to call to find out what week it will be on their menu. Now, you have to try the shrimp salad, it is really good. The salmon salad is good too!
