Unfortunately, I have to update my initial review because of some missed items the inspector should have caught. This is the most serious and could have resulted in a fire! The dryer plug was shorted out and melted, why didn't the inspector investigate why the breaker was tripped? The dishwasher is non functioning and missing major parts such as the lower spray arm. I'm not an inspector or a dishwasher repairman but even I found this one to be just: how could you miss this??? The burners on the stove had a broken connection on one and melted wires. Once again something that should have easily been found had the inspector tested the stove/oven. I think this company razzle dazzles you with their fancy thermal imaging but in the end they did not provide a thorough and SAFE home inspection. Will never recommend or use again. read more

I'm Lindsey, Steven L's life-partner who also lives in the home inspected by this company; I have to add more information to Steven and my review below: First note: please learn from our mistake of entrusting our safety to this company. Unfortunately, we have to update our initial review of this company because of the serious nature of the problems missed by the inspector. This is the most serious issue to address that could have resulted in a fire! The dryer plug was shorted out and melted, (Note: Lindsey has Cerebral Palsy, and cannot get out of the house should a fire have resulted due to the inspector overlooking something life-threatening). We had to ask, why didn't the inspector investigate why the breaker was tripped? The burners on the stove had a broken connection on one and melted wires. Once again, a potential fire hazard, and something that should have easily been found had the inspector looked more closely and had tested the stove/oven. The dishwasher is non functioning and it's missing major parts, such as the lower spray arm. Steven's not a home inspector, or a dishwasher repairman, but even he found this puzzling how a home inspector miss something so obvious? When the repairman came out to look at the oven and dishwasher, he asked if we had the home inspection? When we told him we did, he just shook his head as though apologizing for us being ripped off by the inspector. While cleaning the kitchen, our Aunt found mouse droppings and we had a exterminator come out the next day. Because we were hearing tiny scratching noises from the attic, the exterminator opened the attic door, and immediately commented that it was alarmingly humid in the attic, which he felt as soon as he opened the attic door. He then went outside to set out traps, and he called Steven out to look at our roof in comparison to the roofs on the surrounding houses, which have more vents installed than our house. The following day, we had a roofer come out, and he quoted us a hefty price to correct this being, again overlooked, by the inspector. With that, had we had the accurate information in our home inspection, we could have made a substantially different counteroffer on our house that would have made our move into a new home happier, less worrisome about what we may have not been caught at this point, and less financially stressed to make everything, not only right, but safe. If only we could contact Mike Holmes... We think this company attempts to impress potential customers by showing the use of higher technology, such as thermal imaging used in the inspection, but in the end the inspector did not provide a thorough nor SAFE home inspection, and it costs us in the end, but we're so thankful that a fire did not result as the incompetence of this company. We will never recommend, but only warn people about this company's lack of knowledge of the seriousness of their profession of catching potential dangers of a new home. read more

I am very impressed with GC Home Inspection. They were able to schedule an inspection on very short notice. The inspectors were on time, professional, and polite. The time spent seemed to be appropriate for the task. The report that they provided me was very thorough, detailed, and accurate. They pointed out everything I knew was a problem with the home, but also found many other things, that had slipped out attention. My only complaint is that since the time of my inspection I have been getting calls from people trying to sell me things (home security etc.), who all claim to be "partnering with GC home inspection". GC was timely in scheduling an inspection, but the scope of the inspection was inadequate. Multiple issues were missed, including an entire fireplace that was initially marked "not present." Upon noticing this, we called to make sure that the gas fireplace was tested and working. He assured us and our agent that it was testing and working fine, then amended the inspection report. At move in, we found several items that he'd marked as working, such as two GFCI outlets and a switch in the bathroom. His disclaimer was they must have been working at inspection (inspection to close was 3 weeks). There were also significant blockages in both a/c lines, along with water underneath that was not noted in the inspection. Several weeks after moving in, we wanted to use the fireplace, only to find that the gas fireplace he'd assured us was working and tested at inspection had actually been capped off. When we called, he backtracked immediately, stating, "Well, the inspection just made sure the fireplace was working." When I asked how he could test a gas fireplace that had been capped, he stated that "test" just meant visually inspecting it, despite the fact that our question to him after he marked the fireplace "not present" initially was to make sure the gas was tested. Rather than admit that he missed something, Chad stands behind vague phrases and excuses to justify the fact that his inspection of a gas fireplace was sufficient even though it failed to mention the gas had been capped. Having bought and sold many houses, I expect home inspectors to be careful in their assessment of home systems. What I don't expect is for someone to blatantly defend their statement that a gas fireplace was "tested and working" when the gas has been capped. read more
