Might have been a bad day for us to stop there but I had a tire that was losing air pressure and…read morenobody ever came out to assist us so we drove a little further down the road and had it repaired in less than 10 minutes.

My wife and I had just begun the first leg of a few hundred mile road trip through Nevada…read more Unexpectedly a mild, yet noticeable vibration formed in our Jeep at around 70 MPH. A week before, I had new wheels and tires installed (at a different shop) and so I figured the vibration was wheel related. Hoping to resolve this issue before we started our second leg, I looked around for a tire shop. Of a few tire shops in Elko, NV, Purcell opened the earliest and had the best reviews. I got there right when they opened. I was cheerfully greeted by a very knowledgeable associate who listed carefully to my description of the vibration and asked good follow-up questions to try and pin-point what the issue could be. I have a background in automotive so I'm used to the troubleshooting process. But I have no hands-on experience with tire work so I knew an expert would be needed. Prior to visiting the shop, I though the absence of stick-on wheel weights on the front left tire indicated the weights had somehow flown off. With this information relayed to the tech, they started with that wheel. After about 10 minutes, the associate told me the tech determined that wheel actually needed no weights (rare, but it does happen). She told me they'd check the right front wheel and sure enough--that wheel had gone out of balance. I figured this was the "smoking gun" and so I declined to have the other wheels checked and left. Once I got up to speed, the vibration was still there yet it was different. I went back a few hours later and described the issue. They had a look at the two rear tires and they were also out of balance! All told between my two visits that day, it only took about 30 min to have all four tires removed, checked, balanced, and remounted. Fast! We continued on with our hundred+ mile journey without further issue or vibration. Whew! There's no doubt in my mind that if I had chosen to have Purcell look at all four tires the first visit--I wouldn't have needed the second visit. It was a great learning experience and if I'm ever in Elko again, I wouldn't hesitate to take my vehicle there again!

Called for a quote to have the bearings packed in my travel trailer. I was transferred to "someone…read morein back", who quoted me $139 per axle---"so right around $300 with tax", I was told. I asked if I could make an appointment for the next day, and was told I could make one online. Good enough! So I did. The form instructed me to drop off by 9 am for a 5 pm pickup. So I dropped it off at 7 am the next day. I called at 4 pm to check on it, and was told that online "appointments" go on the "walk in list", i.e., whenever they can get to it. Hmmm. Okay, well, I didn't need to leave until early afternoon the following day, so I told them that as long as it was finished by noon, I'd be fine. "We'll have it done", I was assured. Fast forward to the next day at 11:30 am. I called again, and was again transferred to the back. I was told my trailer was up next and it would take 90 minutes. I was finally called at 3:06 pm and told it was ready. I ran down and was rung up for over $400. When I questioned that, the gal disappeared to the back for ten minutes and returned with a mechanic who explained that I had been misquoted by over $100. He wanted to know the name of the person I spoke to. I didn't recall, but I put the amount I was quoted in their online form. After consulting his computer, he told me "corporate runs the website, and we can't access it". Huh?!? He ended up giving me a small discount, but still had to pay 20% over the agreed upon price. I paid it, canceled my charge account, and won't return. Les Schwab is (in my experience) pretty good elsewhere. Here in Elko, not so much. Their focus is with the mines, and folks who just need a set of tires or a simple service are an annoyance to them. Steer clear or be sorry!

First and foremost, let me say that I let myself get screwed over by these people. They misled me…read moreinto believing that my tires were in bad condition, convinced me that I needed new ones and then bent me over on the price. They more than doubled the price on the tires and then charged me $170 to remove three lug nuts and $40 to remove my spare tire. I was in the process of moving from the East Coast to California and, by the time they got done having their way with me, I was in such a rush to get the hell out of there that I didn't even bother to check the invoice. Big, big mistake. I'm sure after I left that they had a good, long laugh at my expense. Well, after screwing me for as much as they did, they could afford it. I let much of this go as an expensive lesson learned. Well, when the crappy tires they sold me wore out early, I had to replace them. The installers (Firestone in Stockton, CA ... great people) confirmed another lie they told me intentionally to sell me more tires. Enough is enough. I just wish I had filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. If you're ever stuck in Elko and need tires, go somewhere else. I think there's a Wal-Mart or even a Goodyear (which is just down the street). I would like to say that, next time I'm in Elko, I will not avoid these guys. I won't give them my business ever again but I won't avoid them. The next time I'm in Elko, I'm going to drive by just so I can honk at them and flip them off. This place, in my opinion, is just a scam factory.
