I bought a remnant for my new bath vanity cabinet and I asked for the new vanity top to be fabricated. Everyone involved in creating a template and in performing the instillation was great - they showed up when they said they would and their work is very good. The problem is with changing costs. I was told the remnant was $300 and the fabrication was $595. A total of $895!!! I paid a deposit and before writing the final check I messaged John to verify everything. All of a sudden the $595 fabrication cost was increased to $850. So, now the job cost is $1,150!!! NOT OKAY !!!! I foolishly did not get a written invoice when we started the transaction. Do NOT be as foolish as I was.... Especially when buying remnants from GD Tile at their fabrication location. read more

Pros: - John's receptionist (I believe his son) was very good customer service and kind - relatively competitive pricing Cons: - Tile work was subpar. I had an old house so to their benefit, it was not an easy job. However, the tile was not brought flush with the wall and the dam built on the shower is crooked. My contractors said, "it's not bad work but he doesn't make it easy for the next guy." - Many items went missing while they were working on the property. When I brought it up to John, he immediately deflected and blamed someone else. - I found MANY empty beer cans on the property. I suspected this could have been my other contractor working. However, I saw open containers in the tile guy's vehicle and got reports of him being intoxicated on the job from other contractors. Would not recommend GD Tile and Stone unless it Is a very simple job and you don't have a strict timeline. read more

Contractor used this company for our kitchen and three bathrooms and the work is sloppy. Here are a few of the issues: 1. They asked that we order a very specific grout. We did this. Installed, it looks like different colors on the shower pan and it began cracking and falling out within a year. 2. A large tile was cut to go around a window, and a hairline crack resulted. They installed the tile with the crack. 3. One kitchen tile was missing a piece of a corner. Instead of discarding or using it in an inconspicuous spot, they placed it front and center over the stove. 4. There was an imperfection in the granite and they seamed it in the most conspicuous spot possible. We have remodeled 5 bathrooms in different homes and would have gladly recommended any of our previous tile companies. We cannot recommend this one. read more

Best in Southern California! I could finish my review here. I have been looking for a tile Installer and counter top constructor for a couple of months, but never found any reliable, and knowledge company for my project (see picture). 1)the floor installation is made with ceramics from Italy, very hard to set in pattern. GD tile were perfect installator, clean and in perfect time (no late as usually construction can be) 2) counter tops, I had them fabricate my Carrara marble countertops, about 25ft of total Leigh's (see picture). It literally took them 4 days between my choice of material, fabrication and installation. Result AMAZING ! read more

We hired GD Tile and Stone to redo a bathroom floor. They had done some work previously under a general contractor that was good, but we had not dealt with the company directly. This contract was directly with them and while considerably more expensive than others, we agreed. GD Tile insisted on taking out our high end toilet and sat it out in our hallway. The actual tiler did a good job. However, the GD Tile owner then said we would have to hire a plumber to put the toilet back in because putting down the tile raised the floor and the toilet wouldn't go back! Of course he wanted full payment for the contract, despite leaving our toilet sitting out in the hall. This was never raised in the discussions - they hold themselves out as the experts and assured us all would be put back. We now have an unfinished bathroom, and GD Tile refusing to complete the project but of course wanting full payment. All we expect is a company to finish what they promised to do. It's with pleasure that I write this review of GD Tile. We are in the process of upgrading our kitchen in our San Diego condominium, a process that could have been stressful, the contractor, recommended by our designer (Josh Yeagly) was outstanding. The 10 foot counter originally in the condo was a very dated sparkly black quartz. We selected a lighter quartz and met with John to review what we wanted which was a seamless 10 ft slab. His task was to create the piece and to bring it up the stairwell with an 8 inch clearance! Not only did they complete that, but the stone and the cutting of the stone for the sink and stove top were perfect, no mess, quick, clean, and efficient. These are pros!! I recommend them without reservation. And if you're in need of an excellent designer go for Yeagly Designs in the Hillcrest neighborhood. read more

GD Tile and Stone in El Cajon did an excellent glass tile job for us. Glass tile takes some expertise and special cutting blade. Could not have been better. Everyone from the owner to the installers, treated us with respect. Guy, the "organizer", worked to get us a discounted tile price. Fermin and Alex did the work and are very detailed oriented and patient as we decided where to end the kitchen tile. We are meticulous and so were they on the clean up. All I can say these guys are the best. Great family business & kept me in the loop from start to finish & on every detail during process of my huge job. They were so accomadating in helping move things (furniture etc) while working & making my home livable while doing the job. My biggest concern was deadline & time on the job , but John reassured me it would be done in time required & it was with time to spare. They went over & above what was expected , e.g material needed to the exact amount, tile , grout etc everything , they also did the demo then removed baseboard , tiled & re-installed baseboard back to original condition. John responded quickly to my request for bid and submitted in a timely manner. After that things went south. The email and bid had conflicting information and phone conversations with guy were less than clarifying. He sent me to the fabrication location to pick out some stone. They had no clue about my job, took over a half hour to get a response from someone who did know and then had no slabs that could meet my needs.
