I finally was able to try one of Richmond dessert staples. I got cookies and cream with a cinnamon sugar cone, and my mom got non-dairy strawberry with a red velvet cone. Everything tasted very good and paired very well together. There's so many options that I definitely will be making my way back to the sweet spot. While visiting Richmond with my closest friend (an Italian ice enthusiast), we came across The Sweet Spot Ice Cream Café and wow, what a mood! We weren't expecting much, but this eatery turned out to be a delightful and savory surprise. The neon lighting and decor immediately drew me in, giving the place a joyful, Instagram-worthy vibe. The range of sweet snacks was also excellent, with something to satisfy any craving, whether it was ice cream, Italian ice, or something a little extra. Got to visit their mobile tent set up at the annual Richmond Crab Festival. They have fresh lemonades as well as a great selection of different flavored ice creams in cups or cones. You even have a great selection of flavored cones. I have never been to the brick and mortar location but I can honestly say the crew at this Mobile set up was working hard today. The vanilla was decadent and not overly sweet. You can mix you two scoops so I got Purple Haze which was smooth and velvety with a hint of lavender and little surprise pues es of dark sweet chocolate in every bite. I also got the Mint Cookies and cream which had a weird texture to it, possibly from the actual cookies. Definitely tasted the mint but the cookies seemed to be dissolved and not crunchy. This place is so cute! First thing I noticed when I walked in was how the staff interacted with customers who were already in the store when I arrived. They were so sweet and friendly, it gave me a community oriented feel right off the bat. And wow they have so many options! They do give free samples thank goodness, if you're having trouble deciding. But they also have conveniently put on their menu their most popular flavors. I know that's something that I always wonder when I'm going to a new place, so it was nice to see that it was already up there! I landed on the cookie dough ice cream, which was DELICIOUS. And noticed that they had a cabinet full of cake slices and cookies. Had to take home the chocolate s'mores cookie. Tried that and it is incredible! The cafe has a cute almost vintage diner feel. I ordered the hot cocoa and the lady looked at her co-worker and asked her if she wanted to make it, her co-worker said sure. Then after the co-worker walked to the machine, she said nah I don't want to make it. She then told me they weren't making any hot drinks at the moment...then when I asked if they only make hot drinks seasonally or during certain hours of the day, I was told that I could get hot tea and that she doesn't make hot cocoa often and didn't want to mess it up. There were 3 female employees up front. There is no way none of the them knew how to make a hot coca. I believe they just didn't feel like cleaning the machine after. If they truly don't know how (which I doubt), they need to be taught how to make everything on the menu. Very disappointing experience. read more

For the baked goods, I got an original OG cinnamon roll $9 and a carrot cake slice $9. After taxes my total nearly ended up at $30 which I still can't get used to. - cookies n cream ice cream * not the best ice cream I've had but it's decent. - original OG cinnamon roll * 2 words to describe this would be: DISAPPOINTING & OVERPRICED * the roll was hard & stale and the portion you get is laughable. - carrot cake slice * it was alright: not terrible carrot cake but definitely no where near the best. The staff was helpful and friendly enough, but I did have limited interaction with them though. The shop has a very exotic selection of cones including orange creamsicle, birthday cake, dark chocolate, lavender, red velvet and salted blue corn. I wanted a banana split, but was served a big scoop of disappointment when I was told they did not have any bananas. So opted to go with a two-scoop sundae with walnuts, whip cream and caramel. Found this place while on a walk with my friend around Shockoe Bottom. Everybody and their momma had these delicious-looking colorful waffle cones coming down the street and I wanted one for myself. After stopping and asking someone where they got their cone from they pointed me in the direction of "The Sweet Spot". They have so many different flavors of ice cream and waffle cones, for an endless number of different combinations, I seriously could not make up my mind. After asking the lovely ladies working behind the counter I decided on a scoop of Red Velvet Ice Cream and a scoop of Blue "Cookie Cookie" Ice Cream on top of a cinnamon sugar waffle cone. It was so good, I really enjoyed both flavors, and the waffle cone tasted like cinnamon toast crunch. Not only was the waffle cone delicious, but it made for a pretty good picture against the faux leaf wall. I can def see myself enjoying more of what The Sweet Spot has to offer the next time I'm hanging out in Richmond. read more

This place was a hidden gem for me and my friend! We went here an hour before closing yesterday and tbh I was just gonna ask for coffee. But then my friend said the magic words: "Hey look they have dairy free horchata." My soul leaped and cheered with joy but also hesitant, after a little push and guarantee cinnamon satisfactions from one of the gentlemen working... I died and went to heaven. The peanut butter fudge supreme is non-diary and made with coconut milk. The peanut butter flavor was a little lighter than I had hoped. I enjoyed the little waffle/wafer that comes with the ice cream though! I like how they grouped flavors together on the menu and indicated whether they were available for not. The staff welcomed us at first but weren't really that friendly when we asked a couple of questions about the sizes/flavors. They currently do not offer tasting either. I asked the wonderful woman behind the counter for her recommendations and she had so many to offer, but I ultimately decided on Blueberry Cheesecake and Cookie Cookie. The blueberry was probably the best ice cream I have had in my life. The blueberry swirl was the perfect addition to the rich and creamy cheesecake ice cream. I will get this every time or make someone else get it so I can have some and get other flavors. Cookie Cookie was also delicious. The Oreos and surprising cookie dough bites added to the whimsy of the blue ice cream. A good thing to note: I dropped a HUGE blob of blue ice cream on my new, light-colored shirt and I was not too terribly upset because it was good. I'm an ice cream girl, and I'm so happy I discovered Sweet Spot. We were buying some time while waiting for our scheduled Canal Riverboat Tour (which is really friggin cool, btw, and only $6-10 per person). Charm School, our usual downtown go-to ice cream spot, was closed so I Yelp'd to find what else was close by. I swiped by Sweet Spot at first because it looked like a chain ice cream spot that sells manufactured ice cream (instead of homemade). But we headed that way anyway, hoping for the best. And thank goodness we did! It's located in the heart of Shockoe Bottom on 18th street. (Parking may be a challenge but if you're on foot, perfect.) The flavors are so charming, and there's so many flavors that you may have problems choosing which to enjoy (three cases full!). I was taken back to my childhood days reading the nostalgic offerings. I learned from the woman helping us that Sweet Spot opened in January and works with local farms to provide the ice cream (farm-made/homemade, yay!). They also serve coffee beverages and a nice selection of cakes and pies by the slice from no other than Shyndigz, a locally owned and operated dessert spot (with the best cake in town). The waffle cones come in a variety of flavors and aren't really waffle cones but rather a cookie cone that reminded me of the Pirouline cookie. Yes, interesting and tasty. The ice cream flavors we ordered: Kahlua Almond Fudge Key Lime Pie Cotton Candy (sooo sweet) Did I mention that the woman who helped us is the owner? Yes, locally and minority owned.
