I've been going here since they opened when I was in high school and I always loved coming to them. But I called one day asking if they had space for my mom and I for a mani/pedi and they said yes no appointment needed and to just walk in. We walked in when we said we'd be there and every person working was taken doing someone's nails. I asked about how long and the guy said he didn't know and appointments would be going before us... we picked a color and waited and 10-20 minutes in 3 girls came in said they had an appointment and they took them before us meaning we weren't getting seen for at least an hour. So we left. Also when I was looking for a color I asked if they had a certain type and the I think manager rudely said no we have so many nail polish's you can find something you will like. After that comment alone I felt so disrespected but once they were gonna have us wait over an hour after calling I will never be coming back. read more

It takes a lot for me to leave a negative review for a small business, especially in a time like COVID. However, Gel Polish Bar did not give me the service I came in for and they were extremely rude in the process so I do not recommend that people support this business. I made an appointment for a gel manicure with nail art. The employee on the phone clarified that I was looking for a Halloween design and assured me that would be no problem. When I got to my appointment, I signed in and again indicated what I was there for. Almost 30 minutes after my scheduled appointment I was called from the list where again an employee was able to read I was looking for nail art. I understand every business has staffing issues but given that my overall experience was so poor it's worth noting that my appointment time was not honored. At the end of the manicure, she was about to do the lotion when I mentioned I was supposed to have nail art too. She pulled out stickers and I pulled up a screenshot from their Facebook page and said actually I am looking for something like this. The employee plain and simply said no. I said it was from their page and if it's not something they can do I wish I had been told when making the appointment or signing in. At this point, a man who I believe was the owner got involved and told me stickers were "the best they can do" and they don't freehand designs. I said it was from their business' page and he informed me they don't use Facebook. I pulled up the page and he claimed it's a salon by the same name in Wisconsin. I told him posts say to call them at a number beginning with 781 so he switched his answer to it being their page, but he is locked out of it. I then give the woman who did my manicure my card to run and the manager returns to his station where he loudly yells across the salon that nobody even uses Facebook anymore. I probably could have looked past his lack of sympathy and customer service skills, but drawing the attention of the whole salon to make a rude comment was incredibly uncalled for. The woman who did my manicure did a very nice job, but unfortunately I am uninterested in continuing to give money to a salon with such little regard for customer satisfaction. I immediately went down the street to another salon who redid the manicure to get me exactly what I was looking for while enjoying a respectful and welcoming environment. There are much better options around the south shore than Gel Polish Bar and I urge you to think twice before going here. read more

This was a weird experience. I've thought about it for three days and . . it was weird. I give it two stars because my nails look nice, otherwise it would be one star for the attitude. It's a nail salon doing what I think is supposed to be a riff on a drybar but if so, it falls far short. It's newly opened, next to the D'Angelo's in the plaza where Building 19 used to be, across from Dunkin Donuts. (I give these landmarks because I drove by it for a week before noticing it's even open!) I have to tell the whole story to try and paint the off-putting picture. I walked in on Friday around 11:00 for a mani pedi. Country music blaring -BLARING -from shop speakers. It's bare & spare. A long counter for nail techs to sit behind, with backless stools for customers in front. Small, standard collection of polishes but since they're new the colors were up to date. The nail counter had nothing on it- no fans, no dryers, no station accoutrements - just a bare L-shaped counter. I happen to like the old school nail salons with a good luck jade plant or two, a shrine to the family and tv on the wall. Here the two tv's are both situated so the techs can see them while they work, but customers will have to twist sideways or look over your shoulder to try & see them They were tuned to cartoons and a soap while I was there, so not much of a miss! Anywho, I didn't realize a tech was speaking to me over the music, and was she laughing, shouting, "hellooooooo? Helloooooooo?" at me and not in a pleasant way - very sarcastic. Four customers were getting pedis, two mothers with two thirteen'ish girls. no one at the nail bar. I asked if I could wait for a mani pedi and figured it wouldn't be a huge wait with four techs working on four pedis.Nail tech told me "a few minutes" and turned back to her pedi. Okay. I turned back to the polish to maybe choose another color and again, "Helloooooooooo! Hellooooooooo!" and lots of giggling. I was apparently going to be her morning show. At this point I should have left, maybe come back later. Woulda, coulda, shoulda! Nope, I gave her the big smile and asked where she wanted me to go. I was directed to a dry pedi chair at the end of the row (10 chairs in total) - no water, no anything for 10 minutes. One of the techs finished a pedi, walked over and stood silently by my chair for a couple of minutes. Was I being guarded? No sit & dash for me?? Then he decided to clean it while I sat there. Oh I wish I left then! He sprayed and wiped without a word while I squirmed and twisted to stay out of his way! No water yet. Thirty minutes later (after being told "three minutes!" although three techs had freed up) the snarky tech (oh, lucky me!) rolled over to me and started the water. I gave up. I just agreed to everything she said. I did want a hot oil manicure and she gave me reasons why it was going to be parafin instead . . ok, whatever. I did thank her for the foot massage as it was really good - she said it was "just doing her job". Eventually, the country music did get turned way, way down after the group of four left and even snarky girl said, "finally, thank you! to the one who adjusted it. He laughed & cranked it back half way. Shoot me. 90 minutes later . . there aren't any dryers for fingers or toes but she did leave me with a small drying fan at the nail bar before she left to eat lunch outside.My nails look nice. The atmosphere is a no for me. With a nail salon on every other corner, the salon doesn't have to be the most luxurious but good customer service has to be important and it isn't here. Perhaps the most bizarre nail place I've ever been to. The space is super cramped with chairs and stations tight together making it tough to navigate. The service was basic for the most part but took longer than usual. Regulars are definitely treated better. The weirdest part is that there's this enormous tv screen right in your face (the place is tiny) and all they play is 90s country music videos. After an hour of that you will want to RUN out the door. read more

I agree with a lot of the points Maura made. It's a very strange setup, but my nails came out nice so I guess that's a good thing. I saw this place driving by a few times. Decided on a whim I'll try it out one afternoon. I tried calling to see if they have a spot available for me right now. It rang and rang no answer. Weird, but I thought they must just be busy. I stopped in. Walked up and there is one girl eating out front. I ask if they could take me and she told me yes, so I went in. There was no customers, just the other nail tech curled up in the pedi chair with her tablet and headphones on. I think I woke her. Now I know why the phone wasn't answered. First impression, it's not very clean, also not filthy.. Just dingy, which is weird since they have only been open for a few months. Country music is blaring, weird but whatever. I'm down. I pick out my color and sit at the bar. Chairs are not comfortable! They have two tvs playing two different things, but no sound on. The girl who did my nails was nice enough, she even danced in her seat a few times. Also weird. Prices are high for the salon it's in. It's barebones and not very welcoming. If you've never been, don't waste your time. If your a regular, your royalty. I decided to give the Gel Bar a try for a few reasons, convenience being the main reason. When I walked in I was confused and began to regret my decision. I wasn't greeted until I saw the technician to my left and asked if they were accepting walk ins. He said 'Yes, what would you like?' To which I responded a Gel manicure. He then told me to sign in (to the clip board immediately in front of my on a piece of equipment) and then to pick my color. The colors are on the left wall and there is limited space to walk when chairs are being used. I picked out my color and stood by the polish for a few more minutes. Another woman had walked in and immediately got smiles and attention. Which made me feel like I didn't matter at that point. I decided to sit at the counter, waited and watched the jumbo tv in front of me. As I began to think that I was wasting my time and began to stand the tech to my right said 'no, you sit there I'll be with you in a moment.' I sat down and patiently waited. A decision I now regret. Tech #1 began to set up and have a friendly conversation with me while removing the gel already on my nails. I was beginning to forget my awkward intro and relax only for her to point to the man behind me and say 'he'll help you now.' So, I stood and sat at the bar behind where I was already sitting. With foil and remover on only 1 hand mind you. Tech #2 began to set up and remove polish from left hand. No real friendly conversation. He did tell me that they were short staffed. I tried to have a conversation but he wasn't interested. He was more concerned about what everyone else was doing. After he began removing the polish from my right hand he then put the foil back on telling me I needed more time. He then told another tech to send a young lady waiting for service to him. He began filing and polishing her nails. Paying no attention to me, he continued with putting her new nails on and trimming them to her desired length. After what seemed like an eternity I was yet again told I'd be moving. As I made my way to Tech #3 I joked that this was like musical chairs. Which apparently didn't sit well with Tech #1 who told me it was exercise. Which in turn made me (a not so small woman) respond with 'Right because I clearly need exercise!!!' At this point, I was kicking myself for not leaving the first opportunity I had. The manicure was fine, yes. Just fine. I had a nail break two days later. Probably because my nails soaked in acetone for about 45 minutes. I have no intentions of returning or recommending this establishment. They lack customer service and organizational skills. The space is jam packed with equipment and doesn't allow you to walk about or get comfortable at all. read more

I went to the Gel bar this past Saturday. The place was congested, loud, unorganized and the owner was not very friendly. The place is run like a meat market. People in and out in a short period of time, which would be great, if they were thorough. I got the gel manicure. The technician was friendly and personably but I noticed a chip the next day and something under the gel of another nail. Cuticles were barely cleaned. Overall, it was an ok job. As I sat and received my manicure, I noticed that place was dirty, messy and not very appealing. It was not a relaxing atmosphere. It was more like a revolving door. I think maybe it was very busy because it was raining out but customer service is not their strong point at this location read more

Go see Gina or Snow for mani/pedi! They both do great work. My cousin took me here for a mani/pedi and I have been going back ever since! In the year I have been coming here the gel polish only chipped once and that was because it wasn't OPI. When Gina saw it chipped she asked my opinion on the polish because she wanted to let her boss know it wasn't top quality. The leg massages are my favorite part of the pedicure. I wish they offered 10 minute leg massages, I would be there every week!! I was a little skeptical with the speed in which the mani was completed, but after 2 weeks & no chips I wouldn't go anywhere else!! Gina & Snow deliver fast & efficient service! ***Update: add Katie to the list of ladies who do great work here! ****Update 4/24/17: So sad! All my favorite girls keep leaving!! I went here once, and will never return. It was dirty, loud, and uncomfortable. My pedi was the worst I have ever had, but my mani was great. I have been a customer here for a while and every time I say why do I go back maybe because its close, three days my nail broke, I go back and they made me sit there for 45 for a broken nail and told me to change my color and asked me to pay for it while they all sat there and talked about me in their language. I started coming in May, and had proper acrylics put on after a year (or more) of abuse at my own hands. They were stellar, and I left them on until mid-August - I just got bored. Came in and had John soak them off and give me a proper gel manicure (first I've ever had!) and when I say my REAL, NATURAL nails are BEAUTIFUL - no exaggeration whatsoever!! My nails have never looked so nice, and I'm so happy! I LOVE Gel Polish Bar. There's almost always a wait for service, but it's so worth it. I never go here. My teenage daughter goes with her friends. She asked me to go with her. I had the worst pedicure of my life here. I was seated by "May" who begins by cutting actual skin off along with my cuticles. I say ouch. She tells me I'm a baby. I laugh. She shoves my foot in ice cold water. I say what hell. She looks at my daughter and says your mom is weak. (I have had a really bad few weeks and I was hoping to relax..I look at her and say really??! My daughter is looking at me like omg mom! Why is she so rude? She puts gritty lotion on my legs and it felt like I'm going to bleed, like my toes. She takes the hot towel out of wherever they get them and doesn't check the temperature and burns me. To finish it off she hands me my shoes and says how do these fit your big feet, they are so little. I rip my shoes out of her hand she picks up some giant sneakers that someone had left beside my chair and said are these hours? They big. I respond with yes. I wore two fucking pairs of shoes. I will never spend another dollar there ever. read more

Not your typical nail Solon and I love it! Bright, colorful and clean the staff actually tries to talk to you and is polite. My manicurist made sure I was happy with my nail length and shape. Haven't been during a peak hours but I've never had to wait for an appointment mid day. Plus you get a beverage with your service, I couldn't ask for more for my me time!! read more

I think people are weirded out because it's not your typical experience. I was asked what my name was as soon as I stepped in. They referred to me by my first name the entire time which was super refreshing! Some other patrons were signing on the karaoke machine which I personally found hilarious and far more entertaining than someone talking on their phone. Matt (who I think was the manager) was very attentive and funny. And Ella/Gina were great technicians! My pedi was reasonably priced and the job was well done. I'd go back there anytime! read more

By far the best place I have been in a while. I have been hopping from shop to shop for a while now and so glad I finally found one I love. My normal nail salon was experiencing electrical issues so I saw the great reviews this salon had gotten and thought I would give it a try. I got a gel manicure and regular pedicure. It started out great originally until I noticed that they do not use sterilized tools and they are not trained properly. Then when she started the foot massage she was using her nails to massage my feet and was digging into my skin. The place is over crowded and there was barely any room with only 5 customers in the salon. When we moved onto my gel manicure-my technician was putting the polish all over my cuticles and again didn't use sterilized tools. She also tried to put both my hands (with wet polish) into the UV-light dryer. As I was leaving I got into my car and noticed there was now oil all over my leather interior. My technician had used so much oil that even after she wiped off my legs there was so much excess and even after my manicure the back of my calves were still dripping wet!
