I've appreciated Vivian's since I moved to Whitman from Quincy which had an abundance of quality nail salons but none as friendly as Vivian's. My friend and I went here for a pedi for my birthday. The place is dark and dingy, and the smell of chemicals hits you in the face as soon as you walk in the door. It made our eyes water. It was shockingly bad. Wearing a mask didn't help--it was like being in a chemical factory. The nail polish along the wall looked excessively used. We asked the owner if they had ventilation and he pointed to one vent in the ceiling that he then proceeded to turn on. I don't know how people can work here, never mind customers being able to sit through a session. We left and went less than a mile away to Zara's for a MUCH better experience! read more

First time here. My nail tech was Jenny. could not be happier with the way she did my nails. will definitely make this my go to salon.

First time and won't be back here again. Gel started chipping off in huge chunks on multiple nails within 2 days. Got a wax and the wax was too hot (but not unbearable) and she was rushing and going over the same area over and over and over, yet somehow left a ton of hair behind. Ripped my skin off and had to see my gynecologist for treatment regimen and 4 weeks later there's still major discoloration and painful irritation from the wax. I've never had a wax this bad before that caused major discoloration, left me with such intense pain and long-lasting irritation, a ton of broken hairs and SO MANY ingrowns. So incredibly pissed I went here, everything else was booked weeks out and well past my vacation, but I should've just waited. The manicure was money out the window, which is upsetting but not a huge deal I can go somewhere else. But the wax is causing me ongoing health issues and on top of that the problems the wax caused mean I can't go anywhere else for a while either. read more

I asked for a simple French mani with dip and it didnt look good, at ALL. It was almost like the dip crystallized and you could see it clearly. When I said something Lin was very dismissive and didn't even want fix the issue. He passed me off to the nail tech and said that I need to take it up with her. Not a fan of writing negative reviews but after my last week I have no choice. I live in nyc and was in Massachusetts for a wedding and needed to get a mani pedi. Based on the reviews I was excited to try Vivian's. I treated my significant other and his mother to a mani and spa pedi and I myself got a spa pedicure along with powder nails with a gel coat. I had a picture with me of what I was looking to have done if possible, the male in the shop walked around from employee to employee showing my photo and I specifically explained if it was out of their doing, I have a simple nude color I picked that I'd be happy with also. My nail color was picked for the dress I had for the wedding. He shook his head and pointed me to whom was to do my nails and told me she can do it. I triple checked this and was confidently told it was not a problem. The spa pedicure was lovely and I quickly became comfortable with her ability to create the natural color Biolage nails I wanted. Once we started on my nails immediately I was concerned with her thick application of the powder and I politely asked for her to make it thinner where I was simply told "not possible" I've had my nails done dozens of times this way and I know what is possible so this was disconcerting. Next was the pink powder application where I immediately stopped her and told her what I've had before was a much more neutral natural color pink, where what she was using was more of a hot pink. She reassured me when it dries it will look natural. Trusting her I let her continue. Long story short, nails dried hot pink to white. I expressed this was not what I wanted she said "sorry I can't make lighter" and just continued to finish up. I expressed to the male charging me how unhappy I was and he just patted me on the shoulder and continued to charge me 180$ for everything. Before I left my nail lady roughly ripped the paper towel from in between my toes smudging the edges of nearly all of my pedicured toes. I was so upset at this point I wanted to cry. I left so disappointed i did not even know what to say. The next morning my boyfriends mother called the salon because my nails were already starting to lift because she had applied the power over my skin, she asked for a refund where she was just told no and the hung up on. She called back 3 times before they answered and politely exclaimed she thought they got disconnected. The male attendant simply said he could not do what I had asked for and I will not be refunded. when she said we're going to have to write a negative review because we know refunds can indeed be issued and how bad the customer service has been he said and quote "I will be prepared" . 1 week later I just had to pay to have these nails removed where the nail esthetician was shocked how thick and misshapen they were and how much of my cuticle was broken also pointing out burns around my nails. I understanding not being able to achieve what someone is looking for but I had a back up color I was happy with. All in all I'm just shocked at how I was treated and how bad the customer service was handled at the end. You don't treat people this way. read more

I am a super picky person. Especially when comes to my nails. I'm particular about the cleaning, shaping and paint job. In my area it seems as though I can't find a nail tech that can execute to my satisfaction. So I tend to go to JP. However, on this late Friday after work I couldn't make it to the shop I usually go to on time. Of course I jumped on Yelp to find another option. I stumble upon Vivian's. I check the rating, read through some of the reviews but more importantly I look at the pictures. Like I said I'm very picky. So I check the quality of the work that was done for others. To my surprise I couldn't find many flaws or anything I didn't like. I jumped in my car drove 10mins from my house and made it to the shop with an hour and 10mins left before closing. I walked in and was greeted by this really nice man. He asked me to sign in and asked me to pick my colors etc. Let me just say they have a nice selection of colors and the newest colors from OPI. I sat at the pedicure station and was handed a water bottle which was great because it was a very hot day. My nail tech was very nice and made me feel relaxed. I But the part that really blew me away was the fact that she provided EXACTLY what I wanted. I know, bizarre that I would be so happy about this simple concept. But Yes, I truly got what I asked for. I like my nails to be a pointed oval and she cut and shaped my nails perfectly. I was so happy, I almost shed a tear. The paint job was bomb. No complaints what so ever. To end my lovely experience, when I informed the nice man that I was a first time customer he offered me the rewards card and a free bottle of massage lotion. (WTF) In my mind I'm thinking where does this great service come from? Sad to say we don't have many places like this in my area and I loved my experience. I had been looking around for a place for my 3 year old daughter and I to get manicures together, and this place had good reviews. We didn't make appointments, just walked in, and they more than accommodated us. My daughter immediately got a snack and a juice box, and they made her feel comfortable in a pedicure chair with colored lights in the water. She had a great nail technician who made her laugh and smile the whole time, while I got to sit in a massage chair next to her. They were able to fit me in too for a gel manicure, and I have no complaints about the quality. It was quick and my nails look great. They have a one week guarantee on the gel manicures too, which is amazing considering normal nail polish lasts about half a day on me before chipping. Prices were very reasonable, and they give a frequent customer card too. We had a great experience, and I will absolutely visit them again. My only complaint is that I didn't get the free lotion for being a first time customer that other recent reviewers received, but I would absolutely recommend this place regardless. read more

I am quite picky when it comes to getting my nails done - as most people are. But I was around the block running errands when I noticed this new nail place. Vivian was very accomodating to my last minute walk-in nail needs. They have a beautiful array of nail colors and a lot more options for gel colors (which can be rare at several salons). The inside of this establishment can be easily described as prestine and peaceful; something you would want when you want to get pampered. My nails came out beautifully. Vivian took her time tending to my nails like I've never had anyone done to me before. She was meticulous and very attentive to my specific nail needs. I also had my eyebrows waxed as well. Vivian took me to a nice comfortable room where she diligently worked on my horrible brows. She shaped it well to my face structure and I really love it! This is my favorite nail place ever. I typically go to an okay place near my apartment but when I have time I go here. It is super busy (because it's so great) so I recommend calling ahead to make an appointment. If I call morning the day of they can typically fit me in but walk ins are iffy depending on the day. For the same price as my mediocre place I get an amazing mani & pedi. The hot stone massage with the pedi is wonderful. They give you water upon every visit. On your first visit they give you a bottle of massage lotion to take home. They have a loyalty card that gets you $10 off after 10 visits. They are all super nice. The salon is clean and chairs are very comfortable. They have a nice selection of colors. The music is nice too. I've never been disappointed by them; the drive to the suburbs is always worth it when it's for Vivian's! read more

Based on the previous reviews I decided to give this place a try. There were several places closer to me but traveling the extra 5 miles was so worth it! The reviews don't even do this place justice. Customer service is above and beyond. You get a bottle of water or juice when you come in. They have very comfy seats for waiting. Everyone has a smile and they are talkative! Even the customers converse with each other. I had Vivian herself do my nails and she's super detailed. Just got a regular mani and $12 is a great price! I gave an $8 tip because he was very skilled and I didn't feel rushed even though they had a full booked schedule. I do suggest making an appointment. Though I was taken right away the place is busy. Best place in the South shore! When you walk into the store, the owner is very welcoming and polite. The nail salon currently underwent new management and in my opinion, for the better! The nail salon has a few added aesthetic additions that adds a hint of elegance with cozy. Originally I came in for gel mani and pedi, but ended up also having my eyebrows and lip done with Vivian. I did not make an appointment and they were very accommodating with my walk in. When I walked in, I didn't even notice that strong alcohol scent you usually smell at other places which was a pleasant plus. The place has a good amount of colors to choose from and offered typical services that other nail salons have to offer. We started with the pedicure and when I first walked into the pedicure area, I noticed the chairs were a little outdated from other places. Do not be fooled! The chairs provided a strong massage. The massage was a lot better than the fancy looking ones I've seen in other nail salons. Vivian gave the extra effort in exfoliating the dead skin at the back of my feet. When it came time for the mani, Vivian was awesome! She was gentle and gave the best hand massage! Typically, cuticle cutters and cuticle pushers are left in the open with a questionable sanitary status, but I was very surprised to see that Vivian sanitizes and packages her tools. She brought out a packaged set of nail tools. My cuticles were very clean and was very happy with the results. Moving onto the wax, i told Vivian that I usually get my eyebrows done once every 4-6 months and I try to do it myself in between to save. She gave me a shape that wasn't that much off from my natural shape. I have a circular face and she gave me a small arch to accentuate my face. She cleaned up with tweezers afterwards. I almost fell asleep because it was so comfortable. I did not feel any pain from the plucking. Overall I would recommend for anyone in the area! Prices were really a if plus too! read more

I recently switched from my go to salon to Vivian's after reading the incredible reviews here on Yelp. I will just say, the rave reviews are 100% accurate. Today was my first time trying Vivian's. I was very warmly greeted as soon as I walked in and was told to take my time selecting my mani and pedi colors (no rushing, no rudeness, they didn't urge me to hurry when selecting at all...already off to a great start). As soon as I had selected my color, I sat down in the chair and Vivian's husband offered me a water and made sure my chair massage was going. The girl who was doing my pedicure spent a while on my feet and legs, carefully scrubbing my feet and applying the polish. She finished with a leg and foot sugar scrub and a hot stone massage for my feet and legs that felt wonderful (this step is supposed to be pretty standard for spa pedicures...and was skipped repeatedly after a while at my old nail salon). I was then asked to move over to the manicure table where a different girl took over for my gel mani. She noticed it was my first time there and asked why I had switched and what had happened with my old place (on top of all of this, she was never intrusive and never asked where my other place was...only wanted to know what I didn't like). I informed her that my last nail job was sloppy, uneven, and ended up chipping in less than a week. They also had started to skip all of the scrubs, massages, and lotions that they usually did. The girl doing my nails said she understood how frustrating that must be with a busy schedule and said that if anything happened to my nails within two weeks, to come back and they'd fix them for free. Overall, she did an incredibly detailed, even job, and my nails came to looking absolutely beautiful! I even got a free bottle of lotion for being a new customer. I originally gave Vivian's a 5 star... that's when they cared about their customers and took the time to ensure service and quality. However, that has all changed as of late. They don't stand by their appointment times and take walk ins first even if they walk in 5 minutes before your appointment (and you're on time). The last two times I've gone they rushed through everything and it was so half a$$ that I won't go back. My Mom only went back to use her last gift certificate and was disappointed in that occasion as well. read more
