The BEST gelato I've had in NYC. Seriously, not joking. I was shockingly surprised because gelato tends to be the same for me to be honest. It is also just a refreshing treat for me. However, this was great. I had the cream rum and nut flavor and it was exactly as read. Perfect taste. Please go. Service was great. The place is tiny so be warned lol. It was clean and well kept.
Slightly higher end gelato; it tastes fuller, "warmer", and less sweet than usual ice cream. We tried the chocolate and pistachio flavors. I was surprised by the pistachio, which was truly nutty and had less of an artificial taste than the unbearably fake flavor of usual pistachio. Prices were fair, going about $7-8 for a cone and 2 mixed scoops. Interior is tiny, so don't expect to hang out inside, and there's not anywhere to sit or loiter outside either.
My fav gelato spot. They only have two benches outside, it's a very small place. Great flavors. Will be back for sure
The gelato shop is really small with just enough standing space for a few people. There were 2 people working, and they were friendly and helpful with suggestions and samples. After sampling some flavors, I ended up getting the fig gelato. The mini cone was a fun addition. The gelato is very creamy, but expensive, as it was about $9 for a cup.
My new #1 gelato place in the entire city. This place is not new and doesn't get talked about enough. Have been here 2-3 times and everything is perfect. First of all the gelato is in metal containers (authentic) not piled up as mountains. The pistachio, hazelnut and chocolate flavors are all STELLAR - I mean the texture is so smooth, light, intensely flavorful without being too sweet. The chocolate tastes like quality European chocolate and not saccharine. The cone cup is a game changer !! And the little cone on top? First of all these have no business being as fresh, airy, crispy as they are but they are the farthest thing from stale when I've had it each time. Perfect down to the little details. Keep up the A++ work!
Lots of sizes and serving options to choose from (cup, cone, added to brioche, etc.) There are rotating flavors daily it looks like -- although i would have loooved to try the papaya one i saw on a recent menu photo. maybe next time! Ordered a Classic size of the Frutti di Bosco (mixed berry) gelato. They also have a fridge full of gorgeous tortas, tiramisu cups, and a few other Italian desserts. Incredibly fresh fruit in the gelato, super creamy and vibrant. it was the perfect snack for an incredibly hot day and I'd 100% come back to try other flavors
Staffs are friendly. This is a cute hole in the wall. No seating outside. They do not have anything off menu or hazelnut. I ordered the Creama Antica which is vanilla cream with lemon zest. Tasted like a lemon wafer with homemade whipped cream for a dollar more. Gelato was delicious. Would recommend coming here to try! Food: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Ambience: 4/5
Wow - a hole in the wall - literally. Anyway, you can have an ice cream/gelato place you get one in! Yummy, creamy and delicious. I would say you can split an ice cream with someone else. So delicious beyond. They do have two small tables outside and we were lucky enough to get a table after having been on our feet for hours. Give it a whirl. You will like it!
This is certainly a small location but it stays open late and it delivers big flavors. The gentleman working the counter knew his flavors and had a professional demeanor mixed with a bit of humor. My daughter enjoyed vanilla and chocolate in a cone. I took the gentleman's recommendation and had a scoop of coffee, plus scoops of the chocolate/apricot and sour cherry flavors. Just the right amount of decadent gelato. Delicious!
Excellent Gelateria in the West Village with vegan / nondairy options! I ordered the Bergamotto (orange) and Fondente (dark chocolate) on a handmade waffle cone. The orange was refreshing and the dark chocolate was rich and luxurious. The baby cone on top was a cute little touch. The vegan gelato does not compromise on taste. It's as good or better than standard gelato. Guests are allowed to have up to two samples. The Gelateria space is a small hole in a wall with space for only 2 or 3 customers. On a Saturday night expect a line out the door. I hope one day Gentile expands to the West Coast!
5/5 Zambione - the flavor of wine and the egg is so fragrant, reminiscent of the cream layer of a tiramisu! Highly recommend! The baby cone is also super crisp and has subtle caramel-ed flavor.
This authentic gelato place serves Italian gelato with many great and unique flavors to choose from! We tried the fior Di latte (sweet cream), cocco (coconut), chocolate, and hazelnut. All flavors were delicious and creamy! It melted really fast on a hot day but will definitely be back to have more! There was a line when we arrived but we didn't have to wait too long. The interior is extremely small so it's a takeout only place.
Expect to wait in line here, because inside the store is TINY (four people inside will fill up the room) and one worker scoops/serves all of the gelato. There are about a dozen flavors to choose from, ranging from chocolatey to fruity to nutty. Our group all got different flavors, and each of us enjoyed the gelato. I've tried a couple of other gelato places in the city that I like a little more (maybe because they have more flavor options too), but Gentile would do in a pinch on a hot summer day.
Cutest little place to get gelato in the west village. Feels very mom and pop and definitely have service with a smile. Came here on a Saturday after a cute dinner in Chelsea and vibes were immaculate. Line wasn't too long either. read more

Tiny, clean desert place. No bathrooms for customers. Staff are accommodating. Don't be afraid to try to sample the gelatos. Sample them all until you choose the flavor you like. There are different types of cold treats: gelatos and more slushie like consistency frozen confections that are served in a cup. My vegan friend appreciated that he could choose from multiple vegan flavors, not just be limited to the one and only offering, which is what most places usually have. Melon flavor was incredible. Tasted like frozen melon was crushed with ice and chopped into an ice/smoothie blend. Super refreshing. Very sweet, though. All flavors are very sweet, so a small portion can be shared and you will feel satisfied. I personally enjoyed their in-house special flavor of gelato: honey cream with crushed almonds, pistachios, and hazelnuts. That was bombastic! Love how nutty the consistency was. I love nuts, so this almost reminded me of a chunky peanut butter situation: just more fine grained and smooth, with gelato being the base. Highly recommend trying this flavor! Focacia was okay. A bit too dry and bland for my liking, but still decent. My favorite item was the pistachio bombolone which is officially now my favorite dessert. This was magnificent! The yeasty dough was so light and airy--perfectly light and balanced. The filling of pistachio cream was very delicate and not sweet at all, which was such a nice surprise. I do not like saccharine dessert. The fresh raspberry jam was a perfect balance to the pistachio cream. I never like jams in my desserts, but this was a perfect complement. Woooow, what a treat! Can't wait to return for it and to try more of their other flavors--hazelnut & chocolate, coconut, white chocolate, tiramisu. You could taste the superb quality of the ingredients. Shockingly, unapologetically rude service. I went here with my 6 year old son and asked for a kids cup of chocolate sorbet. I was told by the employee at the counter that they did not have a kids size and had to order a small for $3 more than the actual price displayed on the menu on the wall. When I asked about the price printed on the wall, both employees said that it had been discontinued, even though there was no indication anywhere that this was true. I felt duped and paid the higher price just to get out of there. Will not return. There are plenty of other better options in this neighborhood where they treat their customers with respect. Also, their napkins are terrible and not absorbent. read more

A lovely place to grab some quick gelato on a hot summer day! We were looking for some cold dessert in West Village and saw this place recommended on Yelp. The store itself is very small, comfortably fitting 3-4 people inside at a time. There are a couple of small tables for outdoor seating, though. The workers were super helpful, describing each of the flavors that had available at that time. While this place allows samples, when we went, each person was only allowed to have 1 sample, as they only gave 1 total spoon per person (so you'll have to save your sample spoon for eating the gelato you bought). Stracciatella: Very creamy texture, the amount of chocolate was just the right amount. I could eat an enormous amount of this. Frutti di Bosco: A tad too sweet for my preference, but a lovely flavor of berries! It was a bit tart, which was refreshing to taste. read more
Tasty gelato and I love the abundance of flavors. The chocolate was so decadent and rich, and there was a line on a Tuesday night. The service was okay at best, the workers pretty rude and felt unwelcoming. For that reason, I'm not sure if I'd return. read more

Love their vegan gelato flavors! I went w the peach gelato, which had a great natural sweet flavor. (I'm not a fan of sour fruit sorbets, so this my favorite.) Also got the dark chocolate gelato. I wouldn't have known that this flavor was dairy free! Would recommend the gelato. Service was ok, but maybe they were just stressed w the line :) read more
My friend and I stumbled upon this gelato place as we were walking around. There are a few tables outside but no indoor seating at all. It's more of a grab and go place. I didn't think the gelato was anything special... I prefer Anita's Gelato. read more

The best gelato in all of New York City. This place is tiny, tucked into a west village corner - only two or three people fit inside at a time. It's worth the wait but the line moves slow so be prepared to wait! They have plenty of non dairy options including fondente (dark chocolate) which is my personal favorite. read more

I really loved the fact that they have the 3 scoops option because it was hard to pick only one. The flavor in each scoop was incredible tasty, sweet enough and really enjoyable. This gelato place it's gone of my favorites in New York area. I'd say the guy who was helping us wasn't that nice but he did just his thing plus he only let us tried two flavors, I don't know if normal but this never happened to me before. One thing about this place it's that the where it's located, is full of restaurants so it matches perfect for those who can't skip dessert after dinner. The spot it's a small one but with enough space to enjoy this yummy gelato. I've been two times so far and I'd definitely be back read more

We were in search of a late night dessert and this was perfect! So good! We especially like the little mini cones. The texture was good and the flavors were delicious. This was the first gelato we had after spending 2 weeks eating gelato in Italy, and while it wasn't exactly the same, it didn't disappoint! read more
I was disappointed with this gelato place. Based on the reviews many said that this place was one of their favorite places in the city and there was a huge line that made it look even more tempting. But this place did not at all live up to the hype. Firstly, the service was not good. The server was really rude and was (somewhat understandably) rushing us. Also the gelato just fine and had limited options. The price is what surprised me most, for a small cup this was over $8 which is a lot. read more

Charming little ice cream shop in the west village. The gelato here is among the best in the city. The store is tiny so there's really only enough room for 1 group at a time, so the line will seem really long but it's usually not too bad. You guys, the WATERMELON GRANITA is where it's at. Their secret superpower. This ices is served in a cup and bursting with such watermelon freshness, like you're taking a big bite of a thick slice of watermelon, but better.
