I love gelato. Walking in on a cold January night, we were the only guests. The young woman who served us made us feel special. Her focus was on us, not her phone or the time clock. She's a student at CU. My first impression of the fairly small case with a limited selection was to be kinda disappointed. Our server recommended the pistachio and the chocolate hazelnut. I want to love Gelato Boy, I truly do. I just can't get GB to check all the boxes for me. I popped in early evening for a regular (3 flavors) in a waffle cone. I chose gooey butter cake with caramel, pistachio, and lavender poppy seed. In full confession, I am IN LOVE with another brand's gooey butter cake, so ultimately it led to my disappointment in the GB version. There was no caramel and I received a 1/2 scoop (see photo). The pistachio was delightful, but the lavender really stole the show. Perfectly creamy and the flavor was spot on. I typically order my gelato in a cup, but opted for the waffle cone to be festive. I'm assuming they are made in house, but it did not taste freshly made, which is really what I want in a waffle cone. I know I'll be back, I just wish Gelato Boy would take my tastebuds back to Italy. Stick with the classic flavors, maybe trendy isn't where they should put their energy. read more

Had the Coffee Chip and the Brownie flavors, both delicious, but I lean towards the Coffee Chip because how much better it was than other coffee gelatos I've had. I had the 2 scoops on the waffle cone, which may have been a little over cooked on the iron. But I think that was a one-off. Someone with me had the Brownie flavor with the waffle on the side. The absolute best. Gooey butter cake + caramel. 'Nuff said. The midnight chocolate is also so so good and it's vegan. Pistachio is also very good. The only flavor I've tried so far that didn't rock my world is the Colorado peach. But that gooey butter cake + caramel...my goodness. Yum. During Covid-19, they're limiting the number of customers in the store to 8 at a time. Masks are required, payment is touch-free (by card) and the cashier disinfects the keypad after use. I had no idea why the line for this is out the door until my recent experience. The staff is slow and their serving activities are inefficient. Clearly this is because of poor management as the fish always stinks from the head. I had the Pistachio gelato and was delightfully ripped off with the small scoop purchased for $4.95. Come on...it's only gelato. I shouldn't be able to see the inside walls of the cup as it should be packed full. The Pistachio flavoring was rather flavorless (although I sampled the vanilla and was quite impressed by how strong the vanilla flavor was--nearly artificially so.) I'm curious if they use high fructose corn syrup in their production as it's rather overly sweet. Kudos for the freshness of the waffle cones as someone seems to be making them every 30 minutes. Moreover, I was impressed at how concerned they were to using a napkin with which to get new waffle cones from the stack in order to not touch them (which is rather ridiculous because they could easily wear plastic gloves for this (that's right folks, they don't use plastic gloves while scooping your, meaning their knuckles are likely touching the serving containers. Business must be very robust as they now have TWO locations on infamous Pearl street. ...And $7.95 for a shake?? Please. How pretentious. I would NEVER support this company and its insanely shady business practices. I first noticed their pint ice creams in Sprouts, when I checked the ingredients list. Immediately it jumped out to me that they are hiding things in their products and not willing to tell the truth. One of the ingredients were listed as "gluten free flour"... That's it. As someone with allergies I was instantly peeved that this company isn't transparent enough, and I had to message the company myself to find out what's in it before eating it. But wait --- I messaged them! And they STILL didn't tell me. All they responded with was "There are no allergens in our gf flour". Wtf?! Who are they to say no one has allergens to their mystery flour? There is no such thing as gluten free wheat flour, so it must be coconut flour? Cassava? Tapioca? Almond? Potato? Rice? Or is it some unheard of ingredients that are frowned upon? Too bad we'll never know, because Gelato Boy would rather keep secrets from people about what they are putting into their bodies. Not only is this incredibly dangerous to consumers, it is so careless, shady, and suspect. It already irked me that it wasn't listed on the package... Not on the website... But even when CONTACTED, they hide what's inside? This company is dishonest and I wouldn't trust WHATEVER they say about their products. I'll never find out if their ice cream tastes good, but even if it does - I would suggest you find an alternative and stay far far away from this deceptive business. read more

We were greeted when we came and were able to sample any kind of ice cream they had available. The workers there were really nice and the place was clean. They don't have a restroom inside their store, but there is a rest room near Starbucks if you walk down more. Wow. Hands down the best gelato I have ever had. For starters I love the design of the store combined with the advertising that everything is made fresh daily. Then you go into the store and see the most beautiful gelato in the case. Each one has gorgeous swirls and made you want to eat and eat some more. Naturally with the options I had no choice but to do the flight of four flavors. I went for the pumpkin pie (just like pumpkin pie complete with whipped cream), fig-marscapone (the slight tang of the fig was a perfect marriage with the rich marscapone), bourbon-pecan (sacrilege for my husband and friend to put bourbon into ice cream as that is meant to drink straight but Delish to me), and finally my favorite. Luckily this was one of the few ice cream spots and still open (although at this point ~7pm) . We are lucky to get a taste of Italy's gelato on Pearl Street. At Fior di Latte, the flavors are all very tempting, and the few I tried were delicious. The salted caramel gelato was simply delicious, the lemon-basil is surprisingly creamy for a sorbet, and refreshing with the right balance of sweat and tart, and a hint of basil. I can't wait to go back to get a pistachio gelato accompanied with an espresso. Or maybe a chocolate hazelnut one, or both.... Yes, it is a little bit on the expensive side, but for such a treat it is worth it. I'd rather go less often and get the best when I want more than an ice-cream. I also had a latte, which was very good. I can tell this is going to be one of my favorite spots when going on Pearl Street. I should also mention that the staff was very friendly.
