If you have fragrance sensitivities, chemical sensitivities, allergies, other disability-related accommodation needs, or simply care about how businesses treat people with physical differences, I would recommend looking elsewhere. I spent weeks trying to schedule a cleaning with this company. Everything proceeded normally until I disclosed a fragrance-related accommodation need and offered to provide all cleaning products myself. After that, the job was repeatedly described as a "special need cleaning," concerns were raised about whether the cleaners would accept it, and I was told I might be better served by another company. I was asked to confirm the appointment by providing my address and cleaning information, which I did. Later, after the cleaner agreed to take the job, the appointment was given away because I did not respond quickly enough to an additional confirmation request that I had never been told to expect. When I objected to the way the situation had been handled, I was told that the company would not be cleaning my apartment. What concerns me is that the entire interaction changed after I disclosed a disability-related accommodation need. Before that disclosure, I was treated like any other customer. After that disclosure, additional barriers appeared, the job became a problem, and the service was ultimately denied. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this company to anyone who may need accommodations, nor to anyone who believes that people with physical differences should be treated with the same respect and access to services as everyone else. read more

One of the best deep cleans I had in years, it did cost me nearly $300 for a 1 bedroom but I haven't had a professional clean in a few months and I like to cook, so kitchen needed a lot of TLC. I do think the cleaner was not judicious with her time to get more $ out of me but I can't complain because she was meticulous and it was a satisfying clean right before the new year. Such a fan of this cleaning company. Been working with them for close to an year now and below is why I love them: 1) Always on time with both the text reminders for cleaning next day and the actual job. Basically you can rely on them. 2) The housekeepers sent are great workers with good attention to detail. If you give them instructions (which you rarely will need to), they will keep them in mind for future cleanings. 3) They are so flexible that I basically don't understand how they manage it. After using a 5 star serve on Yelp, as well as other cleaning services and not being pleased, I decided to reach out to Gelmu's. Gelmu and her husband came on time and got to work. They took a look at each room and also asked what products I would like to use on my floors and appliances. They made great suggestions on getting my place thoroughly cleaned. The cleaning was great but the communication was horrible. We had communicated $85 upfront for the cleaning, and after all the work was completed, they wanted $160. I had my apartment professionally cleaned 4 weeks ago by another company, so there is no reason they should charge us so much money for a "first time cleaning." So many excuses: "I fit you into our busy schedule," "2 workers for 4 hours is a lot." I agree, but everyone else charges less or at least communicates up front what the cost would be. Even a price range would have been helpful. Their website says the absolute max for a 1 bedroom is $150, but I had expected to pay less given that we had had our place professionally cleaned in the last 4 weeks. When they arrived they also asked us for a bunch of cleaning supplies that I thought were something they would cover. Basic chemicals like Windex and toilet cleaner. Shouldn't a cleaning company bring their own cleaning chemicals? Go with Maid of New York and your house will be much cleaner for a better price upfront. read more

For starters, this review is long overdue. Also, it's important to note that we never had a cleaning by this service as our in-person (and in-apartment) interaction with Gelmu was enough to keep us away. According to Gelmu, who admitted to having some vision issues the day of his visit, it's necessary to start with a deep cleaning. Obviously, said vision issues impeded him from seeing that our unit was spotless. Literally had just been deep cleaned the day before his visit. So my best guess leads me to believe that even small organizations can be mired down and made rigid in their thinking by one-size-fits-all, self-imposed policies and procedures. Regardless, I pushed back and pointed out how obviously immaculate our unit was, but Gelmu didn't budge even though we wanted to start receiving cleanings as soon as possible. Strike one. When I asked further questions regarding the details of the work (e.g. what would be done, would cleaning supplies be provided, etc., etc.), Gelmu wasn't very helpful other than to point out some obvious generalizations (e.g. we dust, vacuum, etc.). Frankly, when you're in my home and I'm asking specific questions regarding a service I'd be paying for on a weekly basis, I expect specific, detailed answers. He did mention some of the chemical cleaners the company would use when I prompted him to do so, and one that they've been using in our building (the selfsame building they picture on their website) damages natural stone. I pointed this out and he seemed clueless to the information I provided. Really? You run a cleaning service that you used to be a cleaner for and you don't know that certain chemicals damage natural stone?? Strike two. Lastly, Gelmu wasn't affable at all during our visit. My partner and I generally found him uninterested, abrasive, and inflexible. Perhaps his workers aren't as rigid or off-putting, but why would I give his company (and thus him) a try given that he is its representative? Simply put, I wouldn't and we didn't. Yep: Strike three. BOTTOM LINE: This may be the perfect cleaning service for you, but realize it's their way or the highway (at least that's how Gelmu presented himself and the company he represents). We can't rate the cleaning itself because we never wanted it after our initial interaction with Gelmu. UPDATE (re: added comment from Gelmu S.): For the record, we didn't ask for or expect a "discounted" rate. That's a flat-out lie. So is Nerbu's (aka Gelmu S.) comment regarding my being thanked for pointing out that certain cleaners damage natural stone. I was met with surprise and admittance that the information I provided was unknown. Regardless, damage can easily occur after one use even if it's not readily apparent. The response to my post is largely a fabrication aimed at shedding a more favorable light on Gelmu's Cleaning. The simple reason for my post is that I wanted to share our experience. We're once again looking for a cleaning service and realized that we never shared our thoughts about this one. End of story! (and all of our previously-shared information stands) read more
