Oh goodness, where do I start? I really don't like having to leave two star reviews but I would say my experience here definitely warrants one. I came in on a Saturday with a few friends and we were all there to get both a mani and a pedi. While the salon is small, we got there early enough to walk in, add our names to the list, and get serviced fairly quickly. My pedi was great. The chairs were comfortable, the soak was relaxing, and my toes looked super pretty when all was said in done. However, my gel mani was the worst I've ever received. Air bubbles, polish over my cuticles, you name it. It was so bad, I said forget it. I didn't want them to fix it, I just wanted to leave and go to my usual spot. Within just a few days they were chipped and even bubbling up off of my fingers. I've never seen a gel just pop off, it was odd. Lastly, the service was very minimal. They never asked me to check for bad spots or asked my opinion. Also, when I paid with cash, they told me I didn't give them enough money. Now, I walked straight over from the atm machine so either the bank didn't spit out the right amount and I have lost all my ability to count, or something fishy happened. I essentially chalked this experience up to being a bad one and I will not be returning. Instead I'll stick with my go-to nail salon near home. read more

Love this place! On this trip I had the Signature pedi and it was much needed! The gentleman seen that I had a gender spot on both big toes and told me they are in grown; it hurt a bit while he did his thing but he fixed me right up. I wish I can rate 0 stars. I came to this location because it is convenient from where I live. I came in for a simple nail polish change . I was met at the front register by a male tech with short black hair and a dragon tattoo on his arm. He did not say hi he just looked at me. I told him I was here for a color change for my toes , I then asked him for prices on gel and regular polish. I was talking to myself trying to debate which one I wanted and I stated I will get regular polish and come back next time for gel. He stated "you can come back tomorrow" I asked if they were closed he said "no". He was so impatient that he didn't even hear what I said. He then painted my toes in less than 5 mins, paid no attention to detail, didn't speak the whole time painting, and also stopped to tend to another worker at the register. Do he not trust the other workers? Also the shop was hot, there was no music or tvs on. Gen Nails, get your environment and customer service together. Unacceptable!!! read more

I received a dip nail service. The tech kept touching the wet dip, had to fix my top coat twice because it was wet when the cuticle oil was added. Less than 24 hours later and my nail is broken. I would not recommend this salon. Spend your money and time somewhere else. read more

I'm giving this salon a 4 Star because I am very satisfied with how my nails look. The shape is exactly how I wanted and the color is so pretty. Not to mention they have the most colors I've ever seen a salon have to choose from. I even complimented how organized the colors were. My pedicure was nice although they could have rubbed my feet a little more...isn't that one of the main reasons we get a pedi ladies lol the salon seemed very well maintained and prices were reasonable. Went there today took my daughter for a daughter mommy day. February 12, 2018. Possibly the worst nail salon I have ever been to. The lady that did my nails acted like she was completely miserable to even do my nails. The energy she gave me was almost unbearable. To try to break the energy ask her if she was having a bad day. I wanted her to know I felt it even if she didn't say anything. Come to find out my daughter also had the same experience by the guy that did her pedicure, sighing multiple times and no communication. The place was filthy (violated multiple OSHA regulations) It pisses me off that I even broke down and gave them a tip at all. I will never be back. read more

I had the worst nail experience of my life at Gen Nails and don't encourage anyone to receive services there. I arrived with acrylics and ask the owner if it was safe to remove them and add gel polish to my natural nails on the same day. She said of course and preceded to remove them. I asked to keep my natural nail length and have a rounded shape. When I sat with the tech who applied my gel she immediately filed down my nails in a short square shape and did not understand me when I tried to explain to her that was not what I wanted. When she applied the gel it was extremely thick and uneven. She applied 3 coats to one hand and 2 on the other. I tried to explain to her again and she still could not comprehend what I was saying to her. The "manicure" didn't include a hand massage or lotion and I was charged $45 for my experience. When I questioned the owner about my total when their price sheet shows a gel manicure at $25 she explained that I paid $20 for the manicure & $25 for the polish application. I'm not familiar with a salon charging separately for these services, especially when I don't believe I received a manicure. I truly believe the owner saw that I was frustrated & dissatisfied with the service and assumed I would not be returning and up- charged me intentially. I didn't want to cause a confrontational scene so I chose to unhappily pay the bill, and left vowing to never return. As I got a better look and feel for my nails my anger intensified. There were clearly bubbles and uneven spots on nearly every nail and although there were 3 coats on one hand, my nails were extremely fragile and bending. The edges of my nails were beginning to peel that same day because the polish was too thick. At that point I concluded that it was not a fair situation for Gen salon to have even received payment for such a dissatisfactory job. And I don't think it was the right decision to apply gel polish to nails that were just covered with acrylics. I think the owner said it was alright because she didn't want to lose my business. I went back to the salon in the morning and spoke with the owner about my nails, to request a refund. She took a quick glance at my nails and continued working on the client she was with. She didn't attempt to hear me, or apologize for my experience.. Nothing. She barely made eye contact and attempted to ignore my presence entirely. She exclaimed that the salon doesn't offer refunds under any circumstances and the only thing she would do is repaint them. I'm sorry, but after the horrible experience with this salon, I didn't trust them to work on me again, and I wasn't going to spend one more moment there. The unsatisfactory nail experience is something that could have happened anywhere. What disgusted me the most was the lack of understanding or customer service directly from the owner. This is your business and an extension of you. I would expect you to care about the opinions of your clients. The impression that was left on me is that they are completely focused on how much money they could gain from me, as opposed to my repeat business. I rarely ever write bad reviews. I try to give businesses the benefit of the doubt when a negative experience occurs. But I was so appalled with the entire process at Gen, I felt compelled to share this story, and encourage you to seek services from salons that deserve your business. read more

The only reason they are getting 2 stars is because the shop is clean and lovely; I just wish the quality of work and customer service was, as well. My mom goes here and doesn't usually have problems, so when I needed my nails done for a performance the following day, I went and got a gel manicure. It wasn't bad. A tad lumpy, but the tech, a young man, carefully listened to my needs, and picked out the perfect color. Plus, my nails were really short and damaged to start out with, so I figured it would be better the next time, after they had grown out a little. 11 days later, they were already lifting up. My mom, a loyal customer, had given me a gift certificate for Christmas, so, ever the optimist, I returned to the shop. This time, I got a very young woman who seemed annoyed and detached, and who ignored my attempts at conversation, not even saying "thank you" when I complimented her nails. It wasn't a language thing; everyone in there speaks perfect English. She needed help to do a repair on one of my nails that had broken, so she is clearly inexperienced. Ultimately, my nails ended up crooked, very lumpy and thick, bubbled, and there was gel hardened on some of my cuticles. They broke and lifted 3 days later, but I was out of town for several days and couldn't go back for another week, which I did only in hopes that they might make it right in some way...but, not so much. Of course, I ended up with the same nail tech. Although I explained everything to her, she didn't acknowledge my complaints, much less offer to make it right. After the first coat dried, the color was too dark, and though I explained that in my profession obvious nail color is a no-no, she refused to take it off and start again, instead putting a coat of a sheer, neutral color on top of it. When she was finished, although the color was better, my nails were uneven, bubbled, sloppy, and as before, she dragged the file along the finished edges, creating bare spots. I left in frustration, kicking myself for allowing her to do them again. A few days later, the gel began to lift, and now, 8 days later, most of my nails are broken, the cuticles on 4 fingers are rock hard and thick, and one of them is discolored. So, here we are. I HATE leaving bad reviews. I've only done it one other time in the years I've been Yelping. But, I don't want people to go and spend hard-earned money and end up dissatisfied and stuck with the results because Gen Nails doesn't care enough to offer refunds, or fix things for free. It's real a bummer, because it's a nice shop, and close to my house. Next time, however, I'll drive the 20 minutes to Happy Nails in Upper Arlington, where I've NEVER had a bad result. read more

Yesterday was my 3rd time there. I took my sister (visiting from Hawaii) because of my previous good experiences with Calvin. We got gel French tip manicures yesterday (09.28.15) and today, my sisters are already chipping! So we stopped in to ask for a small refund or at least a discount for the next visit (there won't be one now!). The owner (woman) instead said "No refunds" even though there are no signs saying such a thing. Not only is my sister from out of town, but we also got pedi's so we gave them a lot of business! I went in wanting a new dip set and a gel pedicure. I had gel on my toes from 3 weeks ago and they still looked awesome, but I needed a pedicure, so I chose the same color for my toes again. The guy started drilling my toe nails, cool granted. BUT then he drilled them down so thin on some parts. So my toes are red and sore. The color looks blotchy from him not taking some areas completely off. So after he's done, he starts painting. I felt a burn on my skin near my cuticles and I do nails so I know it means that he didn't clean around the edges. It's all over my cuticles and they look horrible. I immediately changed my mind on the dip set. I would not recommend the guy and I will not be coming back. read more

A great nail salon! I got a French gel manicure. I was a walk in and they seated me in less than a minute. I originally went in for just a regular polish French manicure and they warned me that the white would chip a lot sooner than if it were gel. They were not pushy at all, but I decided to go ahead and do the gel. The nail tech paid such close attention to my cuticles, cleaning them up probably the best anyone ever has. I said my cuticle get calloused so easily and she found that it was because my nail grows toward my skin. It was just nice to see that she paid attention to what I was saying and she cared enough to go back and file my nails to help avoid them growing outward again. She also let me know that by paying with cash you got 5% off because my reason for not planning to get gel in the first place was money. I have to say when I was in there, there was another customer who was just being sooo so particular about what she wanted. I am all for getting what you pay for, but she was taking this to a new level. I was so impressed with the nail tech for keeping her composure because I definitely wouldn't have had handled the situation as well as she did. She was calm and did her best to do what the customer was asking for. Overall this was a wonderful experience. I was in and out within 45min with a wonderful manicure. I got my nails done on a Tuesday and by Wednesday night one of my nails was already cracked, I went in Friday to get it fixed and the gentleman who did my nails I have had before and didn't like my experience the first time, but wanted to give him a second chance. He definitely did not know what he was doing and he could tell it looked bad, but left it. I wanted dip nails with a tip, he put the tip on crooked and didn't do enough layers of the dip polish and left it lumpy. After putting on the dip he ended with a gel top coat which didn't dry all the way and he streaked the polish when he checked if it was dried and again left it messy. Went today with my mom. What a GREAT PLACE! Veryyyy clean and they use sterilize utensils. The place is very cozy and decorated nice. We were a walk in and was able to get in right away.
