surprise birthday cupcake from the gracious and hospitable Gendarmerie staff!
    Jake G.

What a magical place. Yesterday was my 29th birthday, so I decided to treat myself to my *first ever* massage. I've always been hesitant because I didn't know if I'd actually enjoy it or be able to relax. But hey, getting another year older makes you more adventurous. I sent a request for an appointment to The Gendarmerie due to its incredible reviews and convenient location. An hour later, the owner of the boutique and spa, Topper, called me and happily accommodated my request. When I arrived a little early, I had the option to relax in the steam room before my therapist was ready. Right on time, Kendon fetched me and made me feel comfortable, asked general questions to tailor the massage, and then delivered an hour of relaxing ecstasy! He could not have been more professional, skilled, and set the bar incredibly high for my first massage. However, I can't imagine going anywhere else now that I've been to The Gendarmerie. After a second quick steam, I headed to the desk to pay. When I arrived, there was a red velvet cupcake and a candle waiting for me! It was incredibly sweet, and they sang happy birthday to me. After paying an extremely reasonable price for such great service, Mr. Billy Dee Williams, a friend of the owner and salon, stopped in. Billy played Lando Calrissian in Star Wars. As a huge Star Wars fan, I couldn't believe it! Topper graciously introduced me and took a photo of us. It was a special way to end a special experience. If you're sifting through Yelp reviews and landed on this one, JUST STOP and book with The Gendarmerie. You won't regret it or go anywhere else ever again.

    Topper is an amazing person!

Tomoko Spa is located on a very busy street, but you forget all that as soon as you step inside. They do a really great job of creating a quiet and relaxing atmosphere. The experience starts with a 15 min foot soak/massage, and that already was divine. The masseuse puts the perfect amount of pressure, and that combined with the warm water, almost put me to sleep, haha. For the body massage part, the masseuse asks you what parts you want focused on and how much pressure you would like. They are also really good at checking in at various parts of the massage to make sure you are completely satisfied. I really appreciated how thorough they are with the massage and also how proactive they are in making sure you are enjoying the experience. At the end of the massage, we were given hand-whisked matcha tea to drink, and they also provided us jelly, a handwritten note, and a rose to celebrate our anniversary :) We had such a lovely experience, and I cannot recommend this place enough, whether to celebrate a special occasion, or just to treat yourself! ** If you book a couple's massage, they provide complimentary parking in the lot next to the spa, otherwise there's paid street parking or parking garages available nearby

My husband loved it. The massages are a little rough, so I asked for them to be a little softer. But, I'm kinda a baby with massages, like I don't book deep tissue type of massages. The masseuse went on top of my back on all fours lol. I started laughing when she did that, she started to giggle too. I told my husband she was so petite I didn't mind it. The spa areas were very clean and aesthetically pleasing. I didn't bring a bathing suit, so I couldn't use the co-ed area which looked so peaceful and relaxing. The spa offered shorts for men, so my husband utilized the co-ed hot tubs. He said he was the only person in the co-ed area and men's side. In the women's area, where they had the hit tubs, women are nude. So, it's a little stressful at first because I never been to a spa where people are nude. But, I eventually got comfortable and enjoyed the hot tubs. The women's are that had the clay room, salt room, and sauna required robes. That area was so relaxing. The clay area was my favorite.

When you pull up to the valet, you'll first see a large tacky wax museum type of Marilyn Munroe statue. You are directed through an odd maze past the restaurant hostess desk to the elevator to the spa. Looked almost like a service elevator but apparently that was the only elevator to the spa & outdoor pool. The spa reception desk is small. The women's locker room was shockingly dated and the deferred maintenance was mind boggling. Why does the corporate office hate this property? No love from management to update or at least maintain? How is this place the Beverly Hills Four Seasons?? Perhaps decades ago, this lived up to the brand but something's wrong. The small locker room had a popcorn ceiling, a small steam room & sauna. Two small showers, dressing room & restroom. Dated vanity table. The waiting room was essentially a walkway with chairs, tea and some basic snacks. The small outdoor lap pool was mediocre with faded coralish cushions on the lounge chairs. A small outdoor gym with a canvas type top (the kind that shows all the dirt from underneath when you look up to the canvas ceiling) and limited machines. The upside was the service throughout the property and the masseuses. Overall, not worth the price and cannot recommend. Quite disappointing

Decadence Achieved: The Spa at Four Seasons Westlake Village…read moreEvery now and then, life demands indulgence. Not the polite kind--the full, no-apologies, lean-back-and-exhale kind. The spa at Four Seasons Hotel Westlake Village understands this assignment perfectly. From the moment you step inside, the world slows down. The space is expansive, serene, and thoughtfully designed to make you forget responsibilities exist. This is a non-coed spa, which means uninterrupted relaxation and a genuinely tranquil atmosphere--no awkward shuffling, no distractions, just peace. The amenities are where things get deliciously excessive. Steam rooms and saunas that melt stress on contact. Jacuzzis that feel like they were engineered specifically for sore muscles and tired souls. And the showers--my goodness--the water pressure is so powerful it could make Niagara Falls feel a little insecure. Equal parts refreshing and borderline therapeutic assault in the best possible way. Everything feels intentional, luxurious, and generous. There's room to breathe, room to linger, and room to fully sink into the experience without feeling rushed or crowded. This is not a "pop in and pop out" spa. This is a stay awhile, you've earned it kind of place. The spa at Four Seasons Westlake Village doesn't just offer relaxation--it delivers indulgence with confidence. If you're craving an experience that feels restorative, decadent, and deeply satisfying, this spa doesn't miss. Five stars, no restraint, and absolutely worth surrendering an entire afternoon to. Until next time...
