I have some pretty dark scarring from the extractions and I'm worried it'll lead to bad hyperpigmentation. She also kept trying to upsell (I did end up doing the microdermabrasion for + $20) but I was uncomfortable with the 3+ times she suggested to bring me back in for some facial waxing. I know I have peach fuzz, but I don't really mind it. I don't think women should have to be so self conscious about it. I didn't realize that the cold voice on the other end of the phone would be my masseuse, Reyna. It was extremely difficult to relax due to the setup of the place, the reception and lobby area were right next to the room and all I could hear were really loud conversations. The ambient nature noises in the massage room did not help. It was actually pretty upsetting that what was meant to be a nice and serene escape from life was... just... not. I told her I've been having extremely tense shoulder and neck pain and did circle those on the chart. My favorite place to go to for massages is G-Medical Massage Spa in Long Beach, but I couldn't make the drive out this week. So, I have a comparison to work off of in terms of the quality of body work and actually feeling some relief post-visit. My shoulders were still tense since she didn't really use enough pressure nor did it feel like she was tuned into my body the way that I've had other masseuses tap in. Considering her coldness towards me from the jump (aside from the lukewarm forced smile before showing me the massage room), I didn't feel comfortable speaking up about any adjustments I wanted. Would you? Also would have expected a comfier lobby. It was hot, not aesthetically pleasing, and it would've been nice if they had cold water. They had some room temp bottled water... but something as simple as a dispenser of cold cucumber water makes a huge difference. 3/5, did not live up to expectations. Regret spending my money here. It was meant to be a special post-grad treat to myself but I feel like I didn't get the pampering I expected for the price point.

She came in to ask if I had any concerns or questions and was very sweet throughout the whole process. I believe we went up one level this time by having the needles go a little deeper into the skin. The hardest part is probably the alcohol that has to be wiped on the skin prior to the serum and needles. I honestly did not feel anything during the process. I arrived with no time to spare and Lisa was already at the front to greet me and take me back right away. There were at least 1 or 2 people receiving a service (probably foot reflexology?) right there when I walked in which I thought was a bit awkward, out in the open like that. I was taken upstairs to one of the therapy rooms, and right off the bat, I didn't like the way it smelled. There was nothing bad or wrong, I just didn't like it. Lisa had me get on the table face-up, which I'm not used to. I primarily need work on my back so it always makes sense for me to start face-down. I wasn't given a choice, so I just went with it. When my massage therapist started on me, she hadn't confirmed that I wanted a Swedish (though thankfully she didn't try to upsell me on deep tissue or even a longer massage) and hadn't asked if I had any health issues or injuries she should know about (I do) or whether there were any areas I wanted to focus on or stay away from (there were). But I desperately needed to relax so I didn't say anything and again just went with it. While on my back, the massage was fine. I liked some of her compression techniques, which were new to me but effective (and preferable to thumbs, knuckles, fists, etc). But after I flipped over, I really did not expect my therapist to get on top of me--and not even ask first. I'm pretty sure she massaged my back with each of her feet at one point (alternating) and she definitely sat on top of me to open up my hips. I didn't really know what to say--you expect this sort of thing in a Thai massage or at an Asian spa, but here was a tall, full-grown woman sitting on my butt and pinning me down. I couldn't breathe. Fortunately, it didn't last long, but in retrospect it really seems like the kind of thing they should warn you about or ask permission to do.
