* Charged for Repairs, But the Problem Still Remains My car has been in the shop for a few weeks now. I brought it in because it was jerking during acceleration, and I suspected it could be related to the engine or transmission. The issue started after a long road trip, before anyone had serviced the vehicle. There were no warning lights or check engine indicators at the time. Before coming to this dealership, I paid for diagnostics at two others. One recommended replacing all six spark plugs and the battery, which I did--but the jerking continued. Since my car is covered under an extended warranty, I was advised to bring it to this dealership specifically for that reason. I was already anticipating a runaround, but moved forward based on the warranty coverage. At Gene Messer, they diagnosed a loose gasket in the intake manifold, which was leaking air and assumed to be the cause of the jerking. They replaced the entire manifold for $1,382.48, including parts and labor. Despite that, the jerking persisted. They told me the intake manifold was installed and passed an initial test drive. But when their service manager drove it again the next day, he noticed a slight shutter. Now, their shop foreman and transmission technician are recommending a transmission fluid exchange, costing $348.06 before tax. They claim I'll need to drive 400 to 700 miles after the fluid exchange before the fix takes full effect. If the issue continues, I'll have to return again for further evaluation. Throughout this process, they've repeatedly pushed me to apply for Sunbit financing and have added costs and repairs without resolving the core issue. I first went to Gene Messer Kia. I had originally called and asked to meet with Michael Bates after a co-worker recommended him. I was introduced to two other people instead. One asked me "what was I chasing? A payment? And how much?" It didn't seem like he believed I was able/willing to purchase a vehicle that day. I ordered fender flares on your website and have them installed it during my fisrt maintenance visit. some of the fender flares are not plushed and they told me that they will replace it and ordered the parts. 11/8, I came back so they can replace those fenders but they just replaced two of them. they didnt replace the rear driver side, and they have to drill to make it fit. and the fenders are supposed to be a-no-drill installation on the rear. clips still doest fit. They told me they will order the parts, only to know that they didnt replace the most problematic part (rear driver side) I wasted time on this. I was so dissapointed. they should have ordered new parts to repalace that. how do I go about this? I want that part replaced with a new one. read more

Terrible service. No proper communication. I called and made an appointment. I came in only to find out that they were at capacity and I would have to leave my car there for 3 days until they could even look at it. I got a call finally saying that they found out what was wrong and that my car would be done that same day or the next. I never got another call, so I called them back to speak to someone else who told me my part was not there. HUGE miscommunication errors. Preface: I live 90 miles from Lubbock . It's a full day to make a trip and get anything done. I made an appointment for 9 am for an oil change and rotation. I arrived before my appointment and was told there was a 4 hour wait for my oil change. The entire idea of taking appointments is so that you can PLAN. I tried calling (Michael Wims General Manager),yesterday about several issues my husband and I were having with Gene Messer Chevrolet. 1. We have (1) one vehicle and it had been at the Service Dept., counting the weekend, (5) days needing diagnostic and repair estimate. We asked if we could have a loaner or have our vehicle to drive. Answer was no. A. If we took it from the service dept. we would be taken off the service list and put at the back when we returned. We can even be put on a doctors visit schedule and not be physically in the office,until our turn, eg "Wait at Home" it is called. Or we get an appt. time to be seen and asked to arrive 15-30 minutes before for questions etc. B. We were also told due to Corona Virus loaner vehicles were not offered due to contamination issues and cleaning. So, my question is what happens if customers want to look at a car for purchase? Due to the same reason? Are they not allowed to try before the buy?? 2. On Saturday I had to send my husband to get somethings from our vehicle, after he inconvenienced someone for a ride. There were several golf carts being driven around,BUT my husband ( not a young man) had to walk both ways, in the heat, to the back 40, to get what was needed from our "in line" vehicle. When I mentioned that to Customer Care on the phone yesterday I was told those carts belong to Sales not Service. Is or is not both departments Gene Messer? A. Someone should have borrowed from the Sales Dept. or asked whomever on the carts rlto take my husband to and from our vehicle. O B. Service should have brought our vehicle to my husband. My son-in-law was not impressed in a positive way and mentioned this to me. 3. Our vehicle has been at Service Dept. from 7:30 am 8/21/2020 to present 8/25/2020 10:53 am and no answers yet. My husband has a surgical appt. 8/ 26/2020 ( thank goodness he didn't need to stay at the surgeon to be considered IN-LINE) 3. I left a message for Mr Weems to Call me, please? (yesterday). No word yet???? I want to add to this review: That I did receive a phone call from Mr. Wims, which I appreciated very much. 8/27/2020 We discussed many points in my previous post. He also told me scheduling was a bit hard to revamp. Something about appointments were made corporately. My thoughts on that is there is a broken spoke in the appointment phase of the Service wheel. We had to return our vehicle for more diagnostics on 8/28/2020 for part of the same problem. Great experience with the service department. Told them I had a leak and wanted a professional opinion on where it was coming from in my 2014 Cruze. They troubleshooted it for free and even put some air in my tires. Turns out it was just a hose and I can fix that at home so I didn't buy any parts/services from them. They had the car for the afternoon but told me they'd need it for a while up front so I could plan a ride. If I have an issue that I can't fix in the future I'll be coming back to have them repair it. read more

My friend dropped off a hybrid Impala. 2016. It was never looked at for a simple diagnostic test. the car was dropped you off Tuesday 2/18/20 to do a simple diagnostic test.we had to go today 2/22/20 to pick up the car my friend needs it to be an Uber driver. he was losing approximately $200 a day. the person that was the so-called professional (Kevin) getting this request done in a timely manner which he state and said Wednesday or Thursday to be ready. car was never looked at with all that time they had it. we are going to call up the manufacturer and let them know that this dealership does not help customers at all. Took my 2016 Colorado to this dealer when I heard a noise and felt something clunking in my steering. Before a tech even looked into the issue the service rep, stated that it is likely that they won't be able to warranty the truck. After some time they confirmed that it was a bad rack & pinion and that they would not be able to repair under warranty because I had a "lift kit". I DO NOT have a lift kit on my truck. The service tech went on to say that because I modified the truck with a lift kit, control arms and a sway bar that they would not be covering any repairs. First off, the sway bar is from the factory and I will reiterate, that I do not have a lift kit. I have aftermarket shocks which have NOTHING to do with the steering system. So not only did the rep prejudge my vehicle, he doesn't even know what comes factory on the vehicles. I called Chevrolet customer service and because it was already in the computer that the dealer denied the repair, they said they also could not help me. So now I am stuck with a defective part on a still new vehicle (2016) but also left to drive an UNSAFE (defective steering rack & pinion) vehicle. Let's hope my steering doesn't go out and cause an accident. If you have a vehicle that has anything that isn't from the factory this dealer may not warranty the repair. While I spoke to a manager who was very polite and spoke to me for around a half hour, I was still told that if there was an issue with something and you have different tires (example), they may not warranty the repair if the issue was at all related to or part of the drive train because the tires if not exactly the same size as the factory tires would be considered an "aftermarket modification". The gentleman went on to say that they install lift kits all the time and utilize certain approved parts and would cover a warranty in that scenario. Go figure. Bottom line, be weary of what you do or don't do to your vehicle because even if the systems are unrelated this dealer may choose not to warranty the repair based on what GM considers a "modification". **Some edits have been made after receiving a call from the dealer to tell me to remove my post because what I have stated is not true. Took my 2016 Chverolet Cruze in to have some work done, they told me the warranty wouldn't cover the repair, ok sure I get that, then they half-assed the work, and charged abusive prices for what they did. Then less than 3 months later, the EXACT same work needed to be done again, they told me that their parts warranty wouldn't cover it for some reason, so I took it to Scoggin Dickey, where I had the exact same work done for less than 1/3 the price, and the confidence that it actually got done correctly this time. read more

I could understand that if I was a walk-in waiting this long but to make a scheduled client wait 3 hours for an oil change is ridiculous. I was greeted on the phone by a very professional and courteous receptionist who immediately put me in contact with a New Car Sales Manager. I explained to the New Car Sales Manager that I wanted to send my elderly parents to the dealership to test drive an Equinox. The New Car Manager promptly set my parents up with a test drive appointment with Brandon Davis. Brandon Davis was very professional and courteous. He treated my parents with respect and and went the extra mile to answer their questions and make them feel comfortable with the experience. I took my traverse into the service department because it was making an annoying noise when I started it. They told me it was the cd player and nothing to worry about. They also said they performed a complimentary check on the vehicle and wanted 2500 to fix things that had never given me any trouble. They said my power steering g fluid was leaking and my brake fluid was leaking. Both fluid levels were full when I dropped the vehicle off, not when I picked it up. I told them that I did not want any thing fixed and that I was coming to pick up the car. When I left my air conditioner was broken, it worked perfectly when I dropped the car off. I took it back and they wanted 1000 to fix the ac. Complete Crooks! DO NOT GO THERE!! now I have to pay to fix my ac that wasn't broken in the first place read more

I went to Gene Messer because of their inventory of Camaro's and picked out the one for me, long story short I was turned away and went to another dealer and bought the same car with a great interest rate. Months later I figured I would give them a second chance and take my Camaro to get its first service and have a GM Performance cold air intake installed, once again they couldn't help me and told me to go somewhere else, that somewhere else I went was Scoggin Dickeys Chevorlet. They got me in without an appointment and said the instal would not be a problem, I'm not the type of person that does reviews but this one will be pasted for Scoggins and made a positive score. The maintenance department is horrible! I will start with the good, while having my car over a month they did give me a free rental car. Sadly that's the end of the good. The guy who took our car apparently didn't understand what we were telling him the issue was, so when he relaid this info to the techs they were scratching there heads. After having my car a week with no progress I had to take it back because I needed it over the weekend seeing I was hard pressed to keep finding rides. I took it back Monday so they could keep working on it, heard nothing until the end of the week when they said we needed to pay for a $600 part because they think that it will fix the issue. The following Wednesday we go to pick up the fixed car and nope issue is still going on. The idiot Issac who reported our issue to the maintenance techs called one out who said..."oh we didn't know this was part of the issue, we really didn't know what was going on". NO ONE COULD PICK UP A PHONE AND ASK FOR MORE DETAIL To which he stated "I think it's "this part" that needs to be replaced, we can get that done and have it to you Friday." We are now at Wednesday day of the following week, to which all they have told us is they need another 60 dollars from us for the new part! So forget the 600 we have paid for nothing, now they want another 60! This company is ridiculous, save your self the trouble and the MONEY buy a ford... hell buy anything else. read more

The set me a 7:00am appointment and when I showed up they then tell me I would have to leave it for 6 days before someone could look at it. This was going to be my 5th vehicle purchase from Messer, but the finance guy "Bob" was intolerable. I purchased all four pervious vehicles in the past with Gene Messer (4 Runner, VW Jetta, an F250 and Cadillac SRX). Bob was just being arrogant and condescending! I have multiple pre-approval offer letters from other dealers and this "Bob" was upset that I stated I wouldn't put an additional few hundred dollars down on top of my original down payment. We had already been approved, but Bob was trying to make the most money by going with his bank of choice. I called to make an appointment to have a key fob programmed for my 2006 equinox. I was told by the scheduler it would be a 20 minute job. When we arrived the tech who met us told us the call center was mistaken and it would be an hour wait. She claimed it would take this long to program the fob. This was not what had been portrayed and I had to get to work. Additionally, I was told since the fob was not purchased at that shop, it probably wouldn't program. I understood this was a possibility with an online purchase. Called and cleared the time with my boss. About 20 min later my car was pulled around. I waited for the tech to come get me, but nothing... Fifteen minutes later I went to ask if my car was next in line or if the programming didn't work. The gentleman I talked to said my tech had gone to lunch but she had asked him to watch for it. I explained it had been sitting there. He said, "Well I have to let my people go to lunch." Thank you, Pharoah, but that is not the issue. If you had been made aware the car would be up, please respect the time of those waiting. Remember, you may be on the other end someday. read more

Love my Traverse. But the title crossing the state line to New Mexico has been a head ache. We purchased this car on Feb 14, 2014. They mailed the paperwork for the title to Portales, NM on the March 26, 2014, then did not include all of the paperwork necessary for the title to be processed. My husband went to the DMV for the auto inspection(also necessary) at 8 am and 1 hour later is still waiting on a FAX from dealership to get the title. read more

First experience left much to be desired. I took in to have the re-calls to be fixed on my car. The first recall appeared to go smoothly, only after that recall was complete, somehow my father got called about the car being taken in and received texts and asked for feedback, when the car is not in my fathers name and his information was never provided when the car was taken in. My last and more than likely last experience was not great, I scheduled a 7:00 appointment after I received a flyer from the dealership telling me my part was in and I had 30 days to make an appointment. Appointment was made and yet when I got there they acted like they had no idea I would be coming and had the audacity to tell me I would need to wait for their parts department to come in as the guy I was speaking to had no idea if they carried the part that needed to be replaced. Luckly I kept the post card sent to me clearly stating the part had arrived. By coincidence it was sent by the same guy I was speaking with as I gave it to him and told him I didn't need to wait as I got notified in the mail the part is in. From there I wish that was it, when my car was complete and ready for pick up, I arrive and somehow my keys are lost. For the next 15 minutes, I watch the guy who is assisting me look over and over again in the key box, make a phone call to the guy moved the car (who of course didn't know where the keys are), nervously look for the keys in his area and finally enlisted a few guys to help him locate the car to see if the keys are in there to telling me later that they were misplaced in the key box with the cars that are going to be work on. I got my receipt and noticed my fathers cell phone number was on the home field and my number was in the business field. I asked That to be fixed and left. My hope is this was an isolated incident, but I'm going to be in the market for a new car very soon and I have no desire to return to this place. read more

We had a great experience with Gene Messer. While passing through Lubbock on vacation we needed help with a part for our vehicle. Their service department was very professional and timely. While waiting my husband noticed a truck he really liked but we were on a schedule and left. He then later utilized their chat and text service and on our way back we were able to purchase the truck. The purchase was seamless. We were very impressed with Daniel and Luis who helped us with the purchase. They were both very professional but also personable and patient as they had to stay late to help finish up the paperwork. I must also compliment the cleaning staff. They too do an excellent job. The facility is spotless. I have never really enjoyed purchasing a vehicle but this time we truly did. My truck (That I purchased from Gene Messer with an extended warranty) has a cracked head with substantial engine damage. After the warranty company declined to warranty the engine, Gene Messer told me they would find me a GM recertified engine and cut me one heck of a deal on the total cost for the engine and installment. Their deal? They offered just $800 dollars off the original price of almost $8000! Considering the fact I can purchase a recertified engine with the exact same warranty they are offering for a little over $2000 and have it installed for just 400 bucks, I'll be taking my business elsewhere. Hard to believe this is their idea of cutting 'one heck of a deal' for a potential repeat customer. read more

Spent 10k on a complete fuel system replacement, then spent 1400 getting the DEF system replaced at a Chevy dealer in Albuquerque. Dramatic difference in customer service. Will drive to Albuquerque for next vehicle and by-pass all Messer dealerships. I dropped my vehicle off for an oil change and inspection. I was told my inspection wouldn't pass because my air guard under my bumper was slightly dragging the ground and my signal light was slightly loose in the assembly. I was quoted as ridiculous prices to get my vehicle repaired and charged almost $300 to fix a simple wiring issue. My original visit I was contacted only by the cashier and not my service advisor. He contacted me during my second visit and I'm my surprised because the repair order would have been close to $2000 had he sold me all the work and then still fail me on my inspection. Another place passed it with no problems the first time I took my truck there. I will never return to this dealership for any sort of work what so ever. I would rather YouTube my repairs and attempt them in my garage than get robbed blind solely because they think they can charge astronomical prices for repairs just for being a dealership. I bought a new truck from Jonathon and received financial help from Luis. Both were very helpful......seemed honest, up front kind of guys and made my experience a good one. The service rep Amanda was extremely rude to me and very unprofessional, my truck was misdiagnosed multiple times. I have only had my vehicle for 3 months and have had to bring it in 3 times. I was charged for diagnostic testing even after they admitted the problem they claim to have found was wrong. The work on the Transmission fluid and filter was great-and I wouod definitely recommend the service department to others.... As far as the ealership goes, ia would NOT recommend. I bought my truck there and there was an issue with the title, no one bothered to tell me it was a lost title and it took forever for me to get it!!! I buy, fix and sell vehicles and I lost a profit on thi one, due to being lied to on the title status... I called to speak to the General Manager, who proceeded to explain the dealerships legalities on title status- when I was told a the sell- id eceive the title in 4 weeks- it took 3 full months,instead of taking ownership of the concern. Because of the GMs attitude and uncaring attitude- I would NOT RECOMMEND YOUR DEALERSHIP as a place to buy a vehicle. I have also told everyone of the 400 plus people that I work with and warned them against a purchase at this location.
