Sometimes you pass, sometimes you fail, but it should always be a lesson to be better. To the moral of this statement.... I was in the market for a newer car, since my current car was about 10 years old, and I felt I deserved an upgrade. I searched around and found a few SUV's that I liked and went on the main Gene Messer website, which paired me with a salesman at their toyota location and we got in touch via email and text. I looked over their inventory and did not see anything I liked but saw one at one of their Sister Dealerships and the salesman told me "If there is a car/truck we have that you want, I can get it." I believed him. So I asked him to try to get that vehicle and I would come in for a test drive. Since this convo happened late Saturday, he said he would call the Sister dealership on Monday morning and have them bring the truck over. Monday comes.....he says he is working on it, but tells me to just come on out anyways and it should be handled by the time I get there. I figured it could not hurt, since I was already in that area, so I go. He sits with me for a few minutes, we make small talk and he keeps trying to show me other vehicles. I turn those down. He proceeds to tell me everything that is bad about my trade in and then gives me a low ball offer. I was not even concerned about my trade in because I had a large down payment. But then tells me the truck I wanted already sold. OK. So I get my keys and leave. I head to another dealership, where they not only give me 2500 more on my trade in, but also found another of the truck wanted with no issue. That salesman did his job and called around until he found it for me. Insanely enough, the original truck I wanted DID NOT ACTUALLY SELL. I had a friend call the dealership where it was and they said they still had it, and asked if my friend wanted to come in for a test drive that day. Nice, so my original salesman lied to my face, clearly did not want to work that day, and basically lost about $80,000+ in sales. How is that you ask? Well, I was seeing how my personal transaction would go, and if I came out happy, I would buy a fleet of about 4 or 5 trucks and a van for my company. Nice one Gene Messer Toyota. My most recent vehicle purchase was in 2022 and the C0vid had everything so messed up! Messer had no inventory, so I bought a car while in Houston. The maintenance has all been done at Gene Messer. The system is set up for convenience. Just drive up and drop off your car. And everything is recorded in the app to keep up with scheduling. I appreciate that. The staff is really good. Of course, there are busier times when it can become a bit challenging. They have a nice waiting area with a coffee bar. And the restrooms are really nice. read more

They make excuses saying I had to be there to sign papers (I live 7 hours away) and pressured him into financing with them instead. Now he has to refinance to get the lower rate he already secured. The sales manager, Adam, was a little tough on negotiating my trade value but we came to a mutual agreement. And finally, Joe the finance manager was very accommodating and knowledgeable. Before we start I'm 18 years old with no rental history or car purchasing history. Never even been in a dealership. As soon as I arrived Stetson, a 19 year old care salesmen who had only been there for 2 weeks, greeted me outside within 5 steps of my car. He asked what my plans were what I'm wanting and roughly how much I'd be spending if I were to buy. He took me inside to digitally veiw the car I said I had my eyes on and proceeded to give me extra information on the car based on his personal vehicle which was the same model. He then took me to go test drive the vehicle and proceeded to be very communicative and answered all of my questions without hesitation. Stetson made sure to grow a personal relationship with his me to understand my needs and wants. After the test drive I went to go veiw some apartments. Stetson called me back to give me continuous updates on the car and when it would be ready to come in and do paperwork for. Being 18 it seemed very intimidating but the whole process was quick and very easy they explained everything and if I had a question they gave me the answer and more. I have never been more disappointed in a car salesman. The salesman seemed so uninterested in his job. Went there with cash to purchase a used car today. We informed him that we were interested in purchasing a used minivan. In showing us the vehicle, we told him we were interested in, he looked it up and took us to it. He did manage to open one door. My husband jumped in the back seat and asked him to turn the vehicle on. Salesman acted like he was afraid to turn it on because it was parked in the service area, he didn't ask if we wanted to test drive it at all. Just stood there awkwardly while we looked at the van. Didn't ask our names until he gave us his card. I guess since we weren't buying a new car he seemed so turned off and it showed. Some are so eager to get you into a car, this one was not motivated at all. I feel maybe there was some prejudgment based on our appearance, or maybe he was having a hard day, but this totally brought my day down as I have been looking online for a used minivan that I want to pay cash for. The Service Dept at Gene Messer Toyota is worthless. I took my Corolla for service and the Glove Compartment would not stay closed. I had to go back and have it fixed. It was sloppy job in the first place. My daughter took my C-HR for service at 10,028 miles. They did not do an oil change that they are supposed to. When asked they said, it will be done at 15,000 miles, since it is Synthetic Oil. What a bunch of BS. My C-HR has 10,028 miles on it and never had an oil change, and Gene Messer Toyota refused to do it. WOW !!!! Update-Mr Randall made an effort to resolve this matter. We were looking for a first car for my college age son. Upon arriving at Gene Messer Toyota, Brandon came right over to greet us. We had seen a used car on their website that was in the desired price range, but Brandon was unable to locate it on the lot. We went inside and Brandon let us know that he could "pull" cars from any Gene Messer dealership to test drive and purchase through the Toyota dealer, so we wouldn't have to run all over town. We selected another vehicle, but Brandon's manager came over to let us know that the car was in bad shape and would be auctioned (i.e. not available for purchase). Brandon has only been there a few weeks and didn't seem to realize that this was a dirty sales tactic, so he kept working to find us a vehicle. Brandon came back with keys to a used Highlander. We were able to test drive it, it was obviously just cleaned and very nice for the age. Mileage was relatively low and the price was near the top of our range, so we made the purchase! Two days later the dealership calls and says they forgot to do the inspection for registration, but they can't do it while we wait, they need it for half a day. My son inspected the car and gave them a list of things he found wrong. After we dropped the car off, they called him and wanted to keep the car for several more days! But he has to go back to school at the end of the week (Spring Break), so they promised to get things wrapped up. They called him to pick it up and he still waited at the dealership for over an hour before it was ready. They fixed several things that they probably didn't have to, and they seem to be trying to build a good relationship with my son as the customer. If you decide to visit Gene Messer Toyota, ask for Brandon Kohring. He is a bright spot in a dingy industry. I recently (29Dec23) got my Toyota Serviced. Basic oil change and tire rotation, that's it. Upon completion of services/when I recieved my truck back, I discovered it had a "Refuel" message displayed. Concerned, I inquired about what/why that's all of a sudden appearing. The tech does not nor could not explain it, and I was told to go ahead and take it and return if it doesn't go away, I had 3/4 of a tank of gas, so there's no way I needed fuel. I left and proceeded to the store. Once I was done in the store I walked out and noticed I had a moderately sized oil leak underneath my truck. I looked underneath my truck and saw oil residue and drips coming from my skid plate. I took it back immediately and was they looked at it. After about 15 to 20 minutes, they told me it was left over oil from the change that they didn't get from the top of my skid plate, so that was the problem. Bottom line, I brought in a perfectly good vehicle to be routinely serviced, and now I have issues and even more concerns that the oil and refuel light aren't going to be the only problems I'm going to encounter. Recently stopped in to purchase a new Toyota. The facility is clean and has a large selection of vehicles. However, the day was sullied by an unexperienced salesman and common dealership tactics. During the walkthrough/test drive, I had several questions about the vehicle based on my own research to which the salesman could not answer. When we sat down to discuss the vehicle price, he insisted on first getting the monthly payment estimates to just the MSRP(not an agreed upon price). My wife and I sat for about 30 mins waiting on paperwork that I immediately set aside. I asked for a copy of the Monroney list several times to compare vehicles which they could not provide nor any equivalents. Throughout the entire ordeal, the salesman was unable to answer questions about finances, promotions, additional features to the car. This was bad enough, but every time something came up he said "Let me ask" to which he would get up to get the sales manager. Eventually, we worked directly with the manager who was the saving grace of the experience. He was upfront and sincere, and I would have liked to have given him my business. However, we had been there such a long time and still had not agreed to what I felt would be a fair price. Please note that my review of this dealership is not based on the inability to make a deal, but simply the service we initially received. We came to visit family from La and our sales rep was wonderful he worked hard for us to get what we wanted, but the financial department and management were shady and withheld information knowing we were only here for one more day, taking us away from our family for an entire day knowing we were leaving first thing the next day, they pushed the deal they knew we wouldn't accept. Lure us to the idea of a cheaper note just to tell us the financial department was closed. It was hands down the worst experience I've ever had. Absolutely no respect for the customers needs. My son's Toyota got oil change two weeks ago at a dealership in Mckinney Tx during his TG break. The Mckinney dealer failed at tightening the oil cap and it leaked until it drained but my son was already back at school in lubbock I told my son to find a dealer and take care of it, not knowing it was the cap, I was so worry it was something worse and he is alone with no other vehicle and also the big expense. I gave him Gene Messer Toyota address without even looking at the reviews or stars. My son was very please wirh the service and they took care of everything, put oil and clean the engine, made sure he was safe to drive back the truck. They charged $0.00!!! As a single mother, being so far away from my son, that meant the world to me. Even though they were the ones that suggested the date and time of the appointment, the necessary parts are not available. What a completely unprofessional waste of time. Maybe don't schedule an appointment if you don't have the parts, and you won't get them in time. It would be tragic if within the next week I were to be killed by a faulty airbag. read more
