I don't even know where to start. From the beginning our geneticist warned this might be an expensive option but we moved forward because we needed answers. The initial quote through insurance was over $10k. They said cash pay price would be $2,500 and we'd have a year to pay it. It took me well over a year and I'll own that. When we were down to about $750 I got a letter saying this account might be eligible for some forgiveness. I did everything they and and it WASN'T eligible because we didn't use insurance. If I had, the amount I had already paid would have more than covered it. Our balance steadily went down until it got to zero. I thought it was over. WRONG. I was sent to collections over $950-ish dollars. We went round and round and round until I FINALLY got an email stating there was a zero dollar balance. Still, more collections phone calls. I forwarded them the proof. I thought it finally stopped. It's been 8 months and I just got another one. At this point it feels like harassment and I'd bet money that this will both keep happening and it's going to show up on my son's credit report (or mine?) in the future. This is not the company you want to have sequence your genes. The report they offer customers is unacceptable for the price. I paid $2500 dollars to find out which specific phenotypes I might have that have been documented in the medical community. I cannot believe my medical provider and the genetic specialist recommend this company. What I received was a report that said negative, there was no reference to which genes where. The report had a reference to a scientific paper that the customer had to read & decipher to figure out what was sequenced. Find another company, and question the physician/geneticist that recommends this company. read more

This review is in regards to a genetics televisit appointment on December 29th, 2021 and genetics testing through GeneDx. Dr. Natalie Hauser confirmed no cost will be incurred for the appointment and testing since I have already met my deductible. Received a $400 bill in the mail in March 2022. Contacted Dr. Hauser and she stated, "Yes, even though your deductible was met, there was an expected OOP when GeneDx checked on your benefits, but they should have reached out to you to let you know the amount and ask if you were okay with it before proceeding with the test". Please note, GeneDx NEVER called me about the expected out of pocket pay, and if I known it would cost me $400, I would not have taken the genetics test. Called GeneDx on March 18th, 2022 and spoke to Lee. I asked why GeneDx did not notify me of the cost before testing. Lee mentioned Aetna responded to the claim on February 24th, 2022 (after testing was done) and received an explanation of benefits explaining my responsibility is $400. Lee also mentioned this is because I did not meet my deductible as the testing was done on 1/20/2022. Proceeded to call Aetna on March 18th, 2022 and spoke to Chloe. She confirmed Dr. Hauser submitted the claim and did NOT explain as to why I was tested and hence why there is a $400 out of pocket expense. Aetna needed to know why there was a need for the testing and Dr. Hauser should have included in notes for this claim. Chloe then proceeded to submit a claim and in turn the Aetna Claims Department will reach out to Dr. Hauser to provide an explanation as to why I needed genetics testing done. Chloe mentioned I should hear of an update soon and should be corrected in two weeks. Aetna will then contact GeneDx of the correction and eliminate the out of pocket expense. Based on the negative experience, misinformation and bad business practice from Dr. Hauser and GeneDx, I strongly recommend potential clients to research and seek other legitimate and credible genetics doctor and testing services. If you have no other option but to go through GeneDx for genetics testing, I highly recommend you take the initiative to call GeneDx to confirm the out of pocket expense. Please note, there are similar reviews posted by former patients that experienced the same issue and fraudulent tactics from GeneDx. read more

I can't believe this company is in business. We were billed over 2000 for a test my doctor said would cost less than 100. It's taken more than 3 months to get a reply from anyone at the company. The results weren't helpful to us although that is not my issue read more

I have contacted GeneDx customer support line multiple times, as well as reached out on instagram. Every time we speak, I am told my concerns will be forwarded to a higher manager, and yet no one gets back to me. I was assured by my son's genetic counselor that I would be notified if my copay was over $100 before the test was ran. I was never contacted to give my consent, and the next thing I know, I was getting results and a bill for $600. I just keep being told that when my health benefits were ran, it showed $0, and then oops- it was actually $600. I would have never consented to his sample being tested knowing I owed $600. This is a flaw within your company and policy and something neither myself or our hospital system could have controlled. My out of pocket max is one thing, but the fact that customer reports on the Better Business Bureau show you did this to other families that left them with $6000 bills is beyond shameful. I expect to be contacted by a manager about this situation, as it is absurd to expect me to pay over $100, when I was not privy to give consent for any dollar amount over. read more

Yikes. Our doctor sent a genetic test sample to GeneDx, as they said we may be able to get the same testing at a lower price. We were immediately contacted by six different high pressure salespeople from GeneDx who began to negotiate the price. We'd been told testing would cost about $700, the salespeople started at $2700. They then informed us if we provided financial data, the cost would come down, but it did not matter what income we claimed, even if we made a million dollars a year, they'd knock down the price. In the end they ran what appears to be insurance fraud. They charged our HSA card $650, but billed insurance for $2549.00, $1184.00 and then $910 (Claim #6521934122 with United Health Care). The salesepeople had explained this in advance, that they would bill insurance a different number than we're actually responsible for. The test? We have no idea. It came back "negative" with no details. We'll have the test done elsewhere at a more reliable operation. read more

GeneDX performed gene testing for daughter. We submitted insurance plan information with gene testing release and gene sample and they refuse to submit to insurance, even though they had insurance because the ordering doctor accidently marked self pay. I called multiple times requesting it be submitted to insurance and they refused charging full amount to me. They should be submitting to insurance as the information was included with the sample, even if the doctor made a mistake. Be aware they will not even have a supervisor return my calls, they just refuse to do anything. read more

Avoid, avoid, avoid. I am a nurse and in the process of becoming a nurse practitioner. They received my sample and I believed all was well and I would receive results 6 weeks later. I contacted my doctor after 6 weeks who reported that they were getting the run around from GeneDx. Apparently there was a paperwork issue when GeneDx finally did get back in touch with my provider. When I contacted GeneDx, they said all was well but it would take another 4 weeks to process my labs. GeneDx, if you receive a specimen and have a paperwork issue, it makes sense to immediately contact the provider. This is a test that determines whether or not I will have my own children. Have a little sensitivity and respect... while I stuff your pockets with money. Shame on you GeneDx! I will avoid using this lab and advise my colleagues and future patients to do the same. read more

I beg you, do not do what I did. I read all the negative reviews, and I ignored them. Was told ins. would cover it. After 2 months, got a denial from my ins. Called Ms. Alderdice. Most unresponsive lady ever. This was not the first time she refused to answer my call, but she did eventually return it the last time. This time she just flat-out refuses. I made an official complaint with the doctor who referred us. According to doc, it was done and I will not be billed. We will see. However, I did get the results. Thankfully, the doc is very helpful, but run fast and run far from this company. Go with your gut after reading the reviews. read more

Our daughters test came back negative and then a month later they sent a corrected report and stated in fact my daughter was positives or a certain gene deletion that is time sensitive because this gene deletion makes her 50% more likely to get a kidney tumor... She's only 4 months old and today we had to go for an ultrasound to check her kidneys and we should have done this ultra sound last month but we didn't get the correct results. Lost all credibility in my book and pissed me off. Playing with my daughters life... read more

I guess I'm the only one on here with compliments and a high rating but all of my interactions with their customer service and company, went flawlessly. I had my blood drawn for genetic testing at Mayo Hospital here in AZ and the samples were sent to this lab. Within afew days GeneDX called me and let me know the potential cost with my insurance and that there was a financial aid option as well, before they ran the samples through the testing. I then received an email and form in the mail to send their billing department some info about my income etc. To use for the financial aid. My genetic counselor finally got back to me with the results when the office opened back up again after COVID and suggested another test be run on the samples I gave. GeneDX was able to do that and I had my results within a month. Finally received my bill today with the financial aid and my insurance and for all the testing my total was just under $100. Not sure what everyone's issues have been, but any time I called or emailed I was given a good and helpful response. read more

First of all my doctors office told me the test would cost roughly $200 and instead it ended up costing me almost $2,000.00 with countless headaches in between. I have had nothing but horrible experiences with this company. They cant keep their billing straight to save their lives. I have to call every month to request a statement because they never send them. I called recently to check on my balance because I never receive statements and their online system doesn't provide you with that information. Once I was told I still owed $1,200 (wrong) another person I was transferred to (after telling the person there is no way I owe $1,200) told me that actually I had overpaid my account by $900 (wrong again). Now here I am on hold with them again to clarify what my balance is because, again, I never received a statement in the mail. Do yourself a favor and AVOID, AVOID, AVOID! read more

My wife had genetic testing done in July of 2014. After the test was completed there was a misunderstanding about what our total out-of-pocket expense was, we then started the refund process. Here is the ridiculousness of the refund process: We filed for the refund on 9/26/2014; on 11/25/14 the refund was "approved"; 1/9/2015 the refund check was "issued"; and, as of 1/27/2015, we have still not received our refund of over $2,000. We were told today that the refund was still in "process". To add salt to the wound, they sent us a bill on 12/2/2014 for the agreed upon out-of-pocket expense of $100. They have knowingly kept over $2,000 of our money for 4 months. read more

Try to avoid this company if you can. The person in charge of sending us the blood work test kit for my child was a very confused lady. She made several mistakes. She forgot she told me what our portion of payment was supposed to be and called me a few days later to tell me. I had to tell her she already gave me that information. Then she called a week later to ask to send out the test kit, and again I had to tell her that she already sent it out and we received the test kit. The blood was drawn and sent back to their lab several days ago. I then asked her if she received it back, and she told me the lab probably had it. Two weeks later I go to the doctor's office with my child to get the results, and the doctor's office has to call GeneDx. The doctor's office is told by the same confused lady there was no record of my child in their system! Are you kidding me? A day later I get called by same confused lady telling me they cannot find my child's blood work. I asked her to to track it, but she said they were not sure what the tracking number was, but she'd look more in to it. She called me the following day and told me they don't know what happened to the blood work, but wanted to schedule to get my child another blood draw. Me thinks not. Now my child's blood work is out there somewhere with all our personal information in the packet. Very unprofessional. read more
