They have the best prices, but unfortunately they are dishonest and rude! I was told I had to pay a $100 cancellation fee just to stop automatic payments on my car insurance. I clearly said no. Later, I discovered they added that same $100 fee to my renewal anyway--even though I refused it. They verbally told me a different price. They gave me a generic invoice. But somehow the cancellation fee appeared on my card's transaction statement. That's how I found out. I let it go because the overall price was still good, even with the extra $100. I'm just beside myself. I was hit by another car in the drive ins. Of course the person recanted and the other insurance only offered 50 percent. I elected tolet general fight it out and just cover my losses. I don't make a lot these days and a complication came up. No rental car 500.00 deductable when I had requested 250.00 deductable at purchase And... The adjuster was playing games with the estimate keeping the labor at 45.00 per hour??. I live in the bay area and you cant get your lawns mowed for 45.00 an hour. The other insurance offered 50 percent, did that mean they pay half my deductable I ask???? No answer. So I smelled liabilities coming my way that I cant pay. 500.00 deductable God knows how long for a rental 200_500? More??? Estimate adjustments???? For me to pay?? I cant offord the guesses on how much for me to pay.. So I cant drop off my car until things are answered. I called today and they said the other insurance backed out??? Found me 100 percent at fault. Doesn't matter,the general. Found be 100% not at fault but did not see thru the issues I needed answers to. I asked for only email communication and sent many emails. To no gain. I. Call today 11 mos later to say I want to know what's going on and they said they sent my check for labor bumped up to 85.00 to the shop I wanted to take it to before after I started I could not offord guess marks of significant cost to me I could not offord. Nobody emailed or called me on this check??? I was left in the dark. Today i said to send the revised estimate to me. I requested payment sent to me because now i need find a way to get things resolved on my own due to financial hardship and figure 500.00 deductable Rental car while in repair And more cost. One star is too high!!! Horrible experience. After a full year paying on my policy I was offered a renewal with REDUCED rates -- then "underwriting" who no one has a direct number to, no one will allow me to speak with, no one can tell me anything about other than "we send them an email and they get back to us" decided to randomly "re-review" my history and deemed a NOT AT FAULT accident that I have witness statements, police reports, and won lawsuit due to being not at fault because my car was run over while I was in a protected turn lane with my signal on -- yet this is considered a "chargeable not at fault" in Wisconsin according to the underwriting department that I am not allowed to even question or dispute this with, and this additional 400+ premium was RETROACTIVELY applied on the last month of my policy -- I called and spoke to FIVE DIFFERENT AGENTS over the course of two weeks to get answers, I was told by one to "wait it out and not make a payment it will most likely get reversed cause it looked like an error" the second one I was told "underwriting will reach out directly in 24-48 hours, and will try to contact you multiple times, and will leave a message if you don't answer" -- 4 days later still no call. I call again and then I was hung up on by this third agent didn't know why my account was that way after putting me on hold to "look into it" the fourth agent told me finally it was already reviewed and deemed NOT an error and I had to pay the massive bill within 24 hours (now because I was told to sit and wait on this for two weeks because it was "being reviewed") or my policy will cancel because I can't get an extension now or payment arrangement with it being the last payment on the policy (seems convenient they "re-reviewed" my policy and tacked this in in the final month then-- shady business practices right there) so then I talk to a supervisor and was told "underwriting never really reached out directly to the insured they would not have ever had a call scheduled for you--and I can't do anything to help you and if you policy lapses you may not be eligible for a new policy next month anymore and the renewal would rescind" um ok so I have 24 hours now to pull almost a grand out of thin air and no one can tell me why other than "underwriting said so-- cause we can" Also due to this now "chargeable not at fault" My original renewal with REDUCED rates has now been rescinded and a new renewal was issued that had INCREASED rates now for next year. Don't get looped in by their "affordable coverage" sham it's all a facade to get you in and then have shady business practices and incompetent, poorly trained customer support to force a lapse in coverages so they can further increase your rates and because "underwriting said so" you are expected to just accept it and move on without being able to dispute or get an actual explanation is ridiculous!! I obtained The General insurance 3 years ago, and finally cancelled my policy today. I am fed up with them, never having my back. The first time I ever had to use them was over a year ago when in a parking lot the person behind me was backing up and we barely tapped bumpers. We never called the police or made a report, we exchanged information and reported it to our insurance companies. The General agent decided it was my fault sight unseen and no police reoprt and decided this, and put a point on my perfect record which made my rates go up. Now, this year my neighbor hit my car while parked in my car port, and proceeded to lie about it. When it was obvious he did it. I took pics of my car and my neighbors' car and had his tail light in pieces that went together perfectly to his car like a jigsaw puzzle. The adjuster for The General assured me that they had enough evidence to go after his insurance and I would get my deductible back. Also, the impact to my car was right next to the door where the window regulator is and my window stopped working that same day. The General management insisted that it was due to wear and tear and not from the accident, and made me pay for it, plus pay for the rental car; and made me choose where to take my car to get fixed. Then when it was time to make Geico pay for my damages they failed to provide effecient evidence when I provided The General a pluthera of evidence. My neighbor basically got away with it. And I am out $900 during Covid, because my neighbor is a liar, and the insurance I pay for does not defend me. Now, I just paid my premium last week and decided to switch my insurance to another company, expecting a refund and I don't even get that, because they told me it was absorbed into an "early cancellation fee" so, DO NOT GET THE GENERAL, if they do not even defend me for these minor occurances then why would they in a major occurance. I feel my $126 a month for 3 years was a complete waste of money. read more
