The all you can eat selections

Nice little place in Newmarket. We tried the all you can eat sushi and had lots of variety to choose from. Amongst the many dishes we ordered, really loved the Black Pearl Roll! Service was great, attentive and friendly. We also ordered California rolls, dynamite rolls, green dragon and spider rolls which were well done. The edamame was a little disappointing as not cooked enough but overall good experience and will try this establishment out again.

This is another addition to Newmarket's ever rising sushi restaurants. General Sushi is an AYCE joint that seems promising, well, I think, from my meal on this day, whole it still has it's grand opening promotion. I love the set up, small and intimate, with only 9-10 tables/booths. There is a picture of what each sushi looks like for those who need the visual aids. The cups for serving tea also has pictures of the sushi assortment. The sushi chef works behind his counter, in the middle of the place, and I love that I can see them make the rolls. Of course, there is a kitchen that you can't see into in the back for cooked dishes, such as the tempura, udon, and mini donburi plates. Right, the sashimi pieces, yummmmy, succulent, fresh and meaty! I love the mackerel because it tastes fishy like it should be, but doesn't smell fishy. Did I say yummy? Okay, the rolls, I got the typical hubby-won't-eat-shrimp-rolls. We got the BBQ eel and avocado, spicy salmon rolls, and a new one rolls for me, as asked and recommended by the server, the Black Pearl special roll. That had BBQ eel on top and cooked fish in the middle. I don't know what fish it was in the roll but it was so good. I wanted other rolls with shrimp but couldn't (thanks hubby). They have other options for shrimp eaters. I will try them next time for sure because all of the dishes we ordered were so fresh and tasty. Of course, it is the grand opening week. Maybe that has an influence over the fish, meals, customer service, and rate. Golden Maki is in the opposite corner, too. I hope that my next review of General Sushi would still depict the same potency in taste and representation. Tip: grand opening is 10% off right now (March 28, 2015).

Sushi was lacking. Presentation is minimal. Falls apart when you pick it up. Very minimal amount of sashimi in the sushi. Had to ask for eel sushi twice, while they only had 1 other table to serve. They skip orders. Service is mediocre. Only ended up here cz Golden Dragon was closed. Going there next.

It's my first time trying this popular local icecream shop…read more I first tried to sample some flavor I tried the pandan and the Hong Kong milk tea. The pandan isn't as strong as I expected so I didn't order it. I ended up getting the black sesame soft serve and a scoop of milk tea, both in cups. Cone are 25c more. Order more than $10 can also get a stamp and you get macaron once u get to 10 stamps. I think both the black sesame and milk tea had intense flavor but they aren't creamy enough and too sweet to my liking. And perhaps too many people order the milk tea so there wasn't too much left by night time and so it also accumulated some icy pieces. Mine got some icy bits. I still may go back to try other flavors. They have few seats both inside and outside and there's a little train table for kids to play too. Nice little spot to hang out during the summer time.

Some days I crave something more decadent and strong, and other times I love something light and fruity. You can buy pints of their gelatos to take home as well. The owners are warm and welcoming. Staff are always helpful, making recommendations based off of what you like. Other than gelato, By Jacob offers lots of different desserts such as cakes, macarons, waffles and cheesecakes. I highly recommend this spot to anyone looking to try a new dessert spot - By Jacob is excellent.

Supermoon Japanese Style Cheesecakes - Mr Jigglesworth

I have been a fan of Supermoon Japanese-style Cheesecakes since I first learned about its original…read morestore in Streetsville (Mississauga) many moons (haha!) ago. It then opened another location in Mississauga at Erin Mills Town Centre. I have also been to that location. Several months ago, I learned that a third location had opened up in Newmarket. Considering that this store and I are in York region, it is likely the closest one for me to get my cheesecake and cheese tart fixes. My original intent was to drop by this store in February. During the Family Day weekend, I had scheduled a pickup order on Family Day. Due to a glitch in Supermoon's ordering system, it should not have allowed me to place an order that day. All three locations were closed for the holiday. I had two folks from Supermoon promptly contact me to determine whether I wanted to do a different pickup day or cancel. Since I was travelling a few days later, I knew that I couldn't devour all my goodies before I departed, so I cancelled. I already knew that customer service would be stellar. I hadn't even set foot in this store yet! Last month, I finally made the drive up to Newmarket. This store is on the east side of Bayview Avenue at Stonehaven Avenue. It's near a rather new-looking Tim Hortons. I find that you need to pay attention while in the parking lot. There is steady business at the Timmy's, especially at the drive-thru, that you are competing with traffic to park across from it. There are limited spots in front of Supermoon, so parking further away is your better option. I backed into a spot. I also witnessed folks backing out of spots and dealing with Timmy's customers wanting to accelerate out of the plaza as quickly as the caffeine from their drinks was going into their bloodstream. It was interesting, but crazy and a tad scary. I placed an order online for four cheese tarts (two chocolate and two original ones) and a Mr Jigglesworth plushie. He is Supermoon's mascot. I have eyed getting one for a long time. At the store, I had the nicest woman help me with my order. I let her know that I was here for a pickup. Online on Supermoon's site, you specify the time and date when you plan on dropping by. She found my order that was ready in two branded bags. Yay! I paid with a debit card. I tapped and all was great. If you do get a cheesecake, remember to tear off the cardboard moon on the box's lid. If you collect ten of these cardboard moons, you get a free cheesecake. I am still not there yet, but I hope to get a free cheesecake before this decade is over. I love the cheese tarts. You get a lot of the creamy cheese filling. There's a hint of saltiness in the crust that I enjoy. I can't decide whether I like the chocolate or original more, which is why I tend to get both. They are delicious and consistent. Mr Jigglesworth is cute. I love his ears and Supermoon apron. He is a nice addition to my ever-growing plushie collection. I'm so happy that I have a closer Supermoon to visit. I hope to stop by again soon for new cheesecake flavours and more cheese tarts. (122)

This place is located on the east side in a plaza with Tim Hortons and a supermarket called "The Ranch". Opening the door to this place you are instantly lifted away in the distinct aroma of Japanese Cheesecake goodness. The cake baking area is open concept so you can see all the magic happening right before your eyes. There was nothing cooking when I arrived but of course they were well stocked up in their shelves. The flavors on rotation included original, lemon raspberry and mocha and I ended up getting the lemon raspberry cheesecake and also a side of butter cookies. Honestly everything here looked well presented. There is nothing pretentious about this place and is an open book. Good solid Japanese style cheesecake. Which I would like to remind folks that I think this may be the only place in Newmarket that makes this stuff! Though uncle who-su may be one of the O.G Japanese style cheesecake places Supermoon definitely has a spot on my list now. They also have limited time flavors sprinkled through out the year so you should definitely check out their social media as well!
