When your house is damaged in a fire or flood these guys will finish it off for you. They 'restored' my house about three years ago. Every day I discover a new time bomb they've left me. A loose shelf, poor quality drywall, bad plumbing. I would not trust them with a pencil. read more

I have nothing but praise for Generation Contracting. We had a rather significant water leak that caused a significant amount of damage resulting in a significant amount of repairs. The results of the drywall repairs and painting was superb, if you didn't know it was a repair you couldn't tell by looking at them, that includes the walls as well as the garage ceiling which was damaged by water seeping thru the sub-floor in the kitchen. My elderly parents and 92 year disabled Vietnam Veteranhad a flood at their house. We first called a clean up company and later found out they weren't recommended by insurance USAA. They recommended Generation Construction in Poway. After completion of bedroom. My parents asked if they install HVAC. They knew a company that did and it was installed. First summer was good and second summer condensation was leaking a staining cement. I called them out to check it out. One hour later both companies came. They fixed one problem with not installing P pipe to drain. I was told by Keaton he would get back with me. After three weeks I texted him. Another week went by and I texted again. He apologized for taking so long and he would email the cost of cleaning up the mess and rerouting the condensation, or I could contact Airight to fix their work at a lower price. I feel like Generation Construction is trying to squeeze more money out of my father who is 100 percent disabled veteran ? They made about $60,000 . My AAA homeowner insurance engaged Generation Contracting to repair damages caused by a pipe leak inside a wall in my home. I found them to be very responsive and prompt. The repairs required painting, drywall, cabinetry, demolition and drying the entire area. Several craftsmen were involved. Every one was professional, polite, careful not to damage my home and highly focused on the task at hand. Behind the scene a couple changes had to be authorized by the insurance underwriter. Generation Contracting quietly managed the red tape and adequately represented my needs to get the necessary approvals. I don't think most people enjoy having a host of workers in and out of their home for several weeks, but when circumstances make it necessary, it's nice to have reliable and professional people doing the work. Generation provided quick and excellent service when my water heater sprung a leak and damaged the walls in the garage. Generation responded immediately and began the remediation. They also were very helpful in assisting me in buying a new water heater at a reasonable price. After the area was properly dry Generation returned to replace the drywall. The drywall installer did an amazing and seamless job replacing the drywall. Although I was not expecting it the drywall was painted the area looked better than ever. Worst experience I've ever had with a contractor. Dishonest, zero management, very poor quality work. Read the reviews! Do not use this company, over a year and I'm still trying to get payments returned for work that was not done or done very poorly. They have offered small amounts to try and settle the contract they didn't fulfill. Left my home a mess with jobs partially done, sub contracted jobs out several times with no supervision. I'll echo the other who were unfortunate enough to get these hacks for an insurance claim. If I could give zero stars I would. Left construction debris at my house, twice. Left the work completely unfinished, twice. Floor boards not nailed or glued down, base boards all hacked to pieces and cobbled together. No latches reinstalled in cabinets so they don't close. Replaced our custom solid wood cabinets with MDF. Didn't instal switch plates Left trim off of our kitchen cabinets One bathroom door was installed so poorly it would close. Our kids had to go to the bathroom with a foot resting on the door for weeks while we waited for the crooks to come back and fix their shoddy work. We never got back one of our smoke detectors The first time they came through they didn't bother re fitting and re painting door casing, we unfortunately have metal door casings and they just pried them out, nailed them back in and called it good! Huge gaps, paint all messed up. The didn't bother installing toilet paper holders in either bathroom. The didn't bother adding finish trim to our bathroom cabinets They didn't bother to caulk or seal the seams They didn't install backsplash in one bathroom. I'm pretty sure I'm forgetting stuff, but that should get the point across. Some of this was first time, they told us they were done. We get back from work and are greeted by all this terrible "work". So I called the super of our job, no answer. Doesn't answer me for DAYS. I call the office and leave a message on the weekend as I didn't want to actually talk to anyone there, funny enough that super called first thing on Monday. Well, they didn't do much better second go around. I had to call them AGAIN to pick up their trash. Took them 4 days to come get it out of my yard. If your insurance sends these people to you, don't even let them in to do the estimate. That guy was great, super friendly, patient, explained everything. Then the real company come out when it's time to mess up tour house. These people are garbage and crooks. USAA should be ashamed to recommend these people. read more

If I could give this company zero stars I would. My parents insurance company USAA called them out to inspect mold in my family home kitchen and master bathroom. They did the inspections and took the job for full remodel. They tore down everything quickly but then that was it. Even their project manager said they are overbooking jobs from insurance claims that they are behind. Over a month went by and only a year down kitchen and bathroom was done. Then when my mother tells the insurance company about the delay, the insurance comes back and says Generation told them the delay was my mothers fault because she was taking forever on making her selections. That was a complete lie! I was here when my mom made her selections on time and everything. The men started coming late at night because they were so behind. We finally gave them the boot and went with another contractor who got the whole kitchen done in a week and a half. This place does not care about customer satisfaction. Only every dollar they make. Don't care about leaving Unfinished work which is a safety hazard as my toddler lives here as well. read more

Update to my prior review: I decided to use generation for another bathroom remodel since I such a great experience using them with an insurance claim. This remodel was not through insurance. From the beginning of the project, I regretted my decision. The shower door from my prior remodel project was not sealed properly and caused water damage to my baseboard. My project manager informed me they would fix it. Upon removing it there was mold underneath. Christian replaced the baseboard with the same one that was on before and painted over the water damage. He also got green paint from the other bathroom all over the baseboard, my bathroom vanity and sink. I let the project manager know via email and did not receive a response. Christian, the individual working on my project says "I heard you were b*tching about mold" and he replaced the baseboard with a new one. I informed the project manager I did not want Christian working on the project any longer. He ignored my email and sent him back. They have also charged for items that they did produce, services they did not provide, and did not refund the credit card fee that was written into my contract. I have contacted them numerous times about the first project and being over charged approximately $500 to be ignored. I am so owed almost $800 on this project and currently going back and forth about what they owe me. I will never use this company again and do not recommend them to anyone. read more

Almost 18 months ago, our home was severely water damaged while our roof was being replaced and then damaged even more by the dry-out / water remediation team. Our original contractor bailed when they saw the extent of the damage and didn't even call us - they just didn't show up. So, the dry team and original contractor were HORRID. Scott with Generation came to the rescue. They worked closely with our insurance to document the damage and to ensure everything was taken care of. Scott and Leanne were very understanding as we also dealt with the emotions and problems of being out of our house for nearly 6 months. The billing was a little wonky, but lots of that is because we had insurance involved, the dry-out company fiasco and damage to EVERY room in our home. Also, on a personal note, we found that Scott was honest, transparent, fair, patient, and provided great advice! Leanne was also extremely pleasant to work with. DON'T HIRE THIS COMPANY OR SCOTT LEDSEMA!!! I had major water damage in my home. I hired Generation Contracting. WORST MISTAKE EVER!!!! The work done on my kitchen and bathroom cabinets was absolutely Horrible! There were over 170 mistakes. Nails exposed, uneven trim, trim that was already coming off, broken trim, uneven doors, doors and drawers that wouldn't close correctly and didn't line up. Stain drips, mismatched stain, open holes in the front of a drawer, a cabinet that had a screw dropped and left in between the shelf and four so it wouldn't shut properly. Drywall not secured to walls, texturing on drywall and ceiling that didn't match, drywall that wasn't ever textured. Exposed open cuts in the baseboards. A header that was broken in a number of places and wasn't even attached in some areas. I had 3 Change Orders, which were supposed to remove tens of thousands of $$$ from the original contract but were never deducted. They charged me for doing countertops and backsplash in the kitchen and bathroom that were done by a different company. The bond company isn't even holding them responsible. It's time for an attorney. read more

The house flooded. The waterfall from the upstairs to the garage needed to stop and finally it did, but not before causing significant damage the drywall downstairs and upstairs. We were really fortunate that our insurance company called Generation Contracting. They were on top of the repair from the word go. Every person who spoke with from the first appointment, to the project manager to the working team were polite and very helpful. When it came to get the work done, they sent their best guys over and they worked hard every day to repair our house. I was expecting a long haul but they were done in 7 days! The house looks great! If I could give this company zero stars I would. We went through them simply because our insurance company referred us. We had a water pipe leak under the sink which caused molding and water damage to the island, cabinetry, and dry wall. A different subcontractor came out and removed all the damage but not before Generation came out to perform the estimate and took the job. After the damage was removed, it was nearly impossible to get a hold of generation to set a date and time to come out to perform the repairs, often using the tactic that they're based 40 miles away and it would take them a while to come out and that they were already behind on other insurance claims. After several phone calls and texts from us, they finally came back out to do the repairs 4 to 5 weeks later. We were trying to get them to come out ASAP (as everyone would like) but I was also 9 months pregnant and needed all the dust and work done before baby arrived, which we made very clear when they said they were going to take the job. It took them 2 days to make the cabinetry and do the repairs, however their incompetence made it so the drawers were resting on top of each other which made it impossible to pull the drawer out without pulling it off the tract or scratching. When the guy finished, he just said "everything works." Yeah, everything works but does NOT work well. Fast forward 2 months, our sink drops. We look underneath to see that the sink wasn't mounted to the counter top. We called Generation back since their work is under warranty and they came out to inspect the cause of the sink drop. They are refusing responsibility stating that the original people that installed the sink didn't mount it. When clearly there is evidence that it was mounted based on left over mounting equipment. We had them look at the previous mounts and the person basically said, "well, the last time we were here we didn't touch the sink, it's not our problem." Uhm, yes it is your problem because you guys had to REBUILD THE ENTIRE HOUSING and RESTORE what was damaged. Long story short, they are still refusing responsibility for the sink, but at least their visit allowed them to fix the drawers, which should've been done right the first time. read more

Generation did repair work on my kitchen, hallway, and bathroom due to flooding from my upstairs neighbor about 2 months ago. First I'll list the CONs....they were HORRIBLE on preparing the contract. They sent out a "runner" to get me to sign the contract. The poor guy was just basically a laborer. He couldn't answer any contract questions. When I refused to sign until they sent out a person that deals with contracts...they sent out a carpenter next. He didn't know either. I had to make several phone calls to get them just to explain to me what I was signing because there was a lot of legal language. Secondly, it took about 2 weeks longer to conduct the repairs than they first told me. Thirdly, a worker tried to come into my house without knocking. He accessed the lockbox where the key was stored and just tried to come in without warning. The kickers is that he wasn't even supposed to be there as far as I knew. They told me they were done for the day and then about 1 hr late this dude just shows up. What is I or my woman were being intimate?? I had to chew this guy out and explain the process of entering someones house that is being worked on. So sad!! Also at the conclusion of the work, AGAIN they sent someone who couldn't explain the paperwork. I spoke to a Steve and a Matt. Either one of them should have been there to explain. Instead it took several phone calls to get Steve to explain it "over the phone". Also they never explained the billing options. They just sprung it on my that they needed to collect about $2,400 up front! Luckily they worked with me on that blunder. Now the PROs...TONY is an EXCELLENT carpenter. His cousin I believe works with him but I can't recall his name. This guy was awesome too. They really know what they are doing and the craftsmanship is just outstanding. Tony was really friendly and easy to talk to. Also the cabinet installer was awesome, I forgot his name too. I would use them again anytime to repair or build something. If it wasn't for the billing fiasco, this place would be great. I give a 1 star for the billing and management departments. I give 5 stars for the work. So average is 3 stars. They were great 20 years ago but something has changed. Nothing but delays and excuses fixing a plumbing leak promises, but Steve did not return calls once the contract was signed. Took months with many days of no work being done. We are still cleaning dust from lack of sealing off areas and items properly. USAA is getting ripped off. read more

It surprises me that there aren't more outstanding reviews here of what is easily one of the very best reliable and trustworthy contractors in the San Diego area perhaps nationwide. I can't imagine anyone failing with this reputable reliable company.Most knowledgeable and informed folks call Generation after a horrible event like a flood or fire occurs. It's usually a horrible stressful time for anyone.Generation gets the job done and finds nice respectful team members that are very skilled you don't mind having in your home. My neighbors initially introduced me to them after their interior flood damage. They were referred by their insurance company. Generation recovered their property brilliantly and I give them amongst the highest recommendation of anyone I have ever recommended on Yelp since I joined some years ago. These are the folks you do want to call after such an event as they have the vast experience to walk you through every phase of recovery if you are lucky enough to know about them or be referred. My building has its share of problems with water infiltration and we turned some of these other companies away they were so lacking knowledge skills and professionalism. Some were even rude or dishonest as well as unreliable. Fast forward I decided to give Generation two projects out of the realm of their more typical fire and flood recovery work and I am very glad I did. The first was a high end designer Euro style kitchen with challenges the second after the success of the first project a walkout shower with a cutting edge design in granite glass and an electric opening glass skylight to the sky. They triumphed on both projects. I'm no stranger to home renovation having lived in New York with a variety of homes and its truly rare to find a family owned business that cares about their customer's outcome Generations pricing is competitive with most other contractors and fully licensed and bonded. If you are covered by insurance on emergency service work you probably wont care other than the usual deductible most of us get stuck with However what separates them from the lions share out there is their exceptional team especially their best asset/go to guy who is Keston (Project Manager). He simply exceeded every expectation I had in planning and solving any issue that could come up If you are lucky to get him on your project you will be sleeping at night knowing that whatever disruption that will take place during your renovation that the best most competent individual has it under control. Any question I had was answered and if there was some job I didn't want done immediately they never pushed it. The communication with the office has been really good. Generation was hired by us for an insurance repair caused by a minor water leak. They came out and looked at the repair and gave a proposal that mirrored that from AAA insurance company. They completed the repair in a timely manner and the work was satisfactory. Here's why they do not rate any more than 2 stars. As mentioned the quality of the work warranted more but if I could rate their business practices it would be below zero. They charged me more than double for the work they performed. The only defense for the charges is that's what the insurance company said they could charge. They sent out one worker for 8 hours to repair some sheetrock and paint and charged for that work over $200 / hour. The estimate of course does not reflect that hourly charge but by adding up all the line items on the proposal that was the charge. There were several line items on the proposal that they did not do as they were not necessary but they charged me anyway. Some examples: Mask and prep for paint $79.38 Move out and reset room $58.23 Labor Minimum for finish carpentry $258.20 (This was to reinstall a 6 ft. piece of molding) If you should call them for an insurance repair make certain you know what you are paying for. When I agreed to the proposal it was at a very stressful time due to the leak and I just wanted it fixed. It wasn't until after that I realizes how I was taken advantage of. They even threatened to take me to court if I did not pay. read more

The workers were respectful of our furnishings and polite and easy to work with. They started the water evacuation and drying immediately. We used generation after some fire damage, they were a preferred contractor for USAA. Everything they touched was wrong. They got caught putting in windows that were not even up to code to save a buck. We made them take them out and replace them with our own window contractor. Next they had to paint our house 3 times they painted without sanding and right over the bubbles in the paint from the fire. Next they poured a 150' driveway. That is now cracking in several places had an estimate to repair would have to replace the whole driveway $20,000.00When we tried to get them to fix it they offered us $400.00 we had another paint contractor come out to fix the paint was $2000.00 As for the 3 year warranty because we used a preferred USAA contractor. A joke they didn't even warranty there work after a month. I would not recommend anyone use this company for anything related to home repair.
