The Quoting Quagmire: James played the no "nickel and diming" tune with a side of a veteran discount. Then, "Oops, missed a room!" That little oversight cost us an unexpected $420. Talk about attention to detail. 3. James' "Dad" Vibes: James' lectures included gems like "This isn't an insult but if you think you come off like a nice guy you don't," plus a reminder that "you were given the level of respect you showed us." He even pulled the "I'm old enough to be your dad" card. Because that's relevant how? 4. Baseboard Comedy Show: Post-flooring, the baseboards were propped up against walls like they were on a break. Apparently, putting them back is a service, not a courtesy. 5. Impromptu Board Replacements: Without so much as a by-your-leave, they replaced boards on the first floor and slapped on an additional ~$1600 bill for their silent service. 6. The Great Baseboard Hunt: They claimed the first-floor baseboards had vanished. Spoiler: They were enjoying a rain dance outside. 7. We bought a house and hired Glen and Always Roofing for a roof inspection to see what we needed to…read moredo, whether that be a new roof or just maintenance. Glen's inspection told us that we only needed maintenance on our flat roof and that we could go another couple of years before we needed to replace our flat roof. We accepted Glen's proposal for getting our roof into watertight shape, as well as debris removal, and replacement of drain screens. A week or two later after his work was done we had our first rain and a huge leak in multiple areas of the house! We called Glen and he immediately tried to deflect responsibility and say that the old owners of the house must have not disclosed a problem with the roof. Follow up investigation showed that this was not the case at all and there was no hidden roof damage. Glen was out of town when we called and we had to call another roofer as an emergency because it was supposed to rain again soon. We got a second inspection report from a different reputable roofer and went up on our roof with him in person and he showed us all of the work that Glen said he did, was not actually done! Not only was there a GIANT hole in the flap of our roof, but our gutters were blocked with debris and the screens were just laying on the side and not actually installed! Glen's contract proposal said that he would use sealant on the roof with an embedded fiber glass jacket, which was not used at all. There were many places we were shown where everything was just bare and no sealant was used. When we contacted Glen again and asked him if his year warranty that he offered covered the damage not only to our roof, but to our house, he said he did not cover any water leak damage! It's hard to believe that a roofing company has insurance that does not cover water leak damage and he refused to pay out of pocket for our extensive damages. We told Glen we felt that he was liable for the water damage, as well as the damage to our roof because he was negligent and didn't do all the work he said he did in his contract, he denied it. We told him we had a second inspection done and he claimed that the second inspector was wrong and he did everything he was supposed to do. He offered to come out in person and talk with us about the situation and we took him up on that. Once Glen came out and we got on top of the roof with him (mind this is a very tall and flat roof that cannot be seen from the ground, which may be why he thought he could get away with not completing the job) he changed his tune completely. He saw that we had picture evidence as well as another inspection and was shown in person what was not done. Maybe he thought he could pull the wool over the eyes of uneducated home-buyers? He began to apologize profusely and said the work should have been done, but was not. He then offered a refund of $600 and a completion of the work if we signed a contract to agree not to take him to small claims court. Wanting to move on with the ordeal, we agreed. He took his sweet time coming out to fix the roof and it took multiple jobs in which he complained to us that the sealant was "expensive." His punctuality and responsiveness were extremely poor and we had to check the roof ourselves (by borrowing a 20+ ft ladder) and then follow up with him time after time to get him to come back out to complete the job. At some point he just gave up and told us that the rest of the roof didn't need to have work done, when he previously told us in our verbal agreement that he would fix the WHOLE roof. Not only that, but he went back on our verbal agreement a second time by telling us he did everything he was supposed to do and that he decided we did not deserve a refund of $600, but now he was only going to give us $200. This was after calling and e-mailing him multiple times for a response. Mind you, that the water damage to our house totaled to the thousands and we agreed when he offered us $600, FAR less than what the damage actually was to our house! Our real estate agent, who had recommended Glen, was extremely embarrassed by this situation and said he wishes he never recommended Glen and will never be using him again. He even offered to pay us out of pocket for recommending someone who did such a terrible job. Please stay far, far away from Glen Hopson and Always Roofing!

He demanded that I provide my identifying information, ignored my request for privacy based on the review, and made accusations that I used a fake contractor. It was irksome enough to remove an additional star. Remainder of review remains in tact.] As first time homeowners, we discovered that the market for construction/ remodel help is difficult to find in San Diego. It's hard to filter out the reliable reviews from those who are associated to the business owners. This is heavily prevalent on Yelp and exceptionally so for service providers: it's important to notice how many of those 5 star reviewers have (1) no yelp activity, (2) no yelp friends, and (3) created the yelp account close in time to the date the review was placed. You should be cautious of the veracity of these reviews. With Treeium, you'll find a that there are some valid reviews and some questionable. I lend mine as one backed by evidence. To date I am the only Yelp Elite reviewer. I'd be happy to pass along my complete sentiments privately. I selected Treeium from -- you guessed it-- yelp. My husband, who's the more calm and friendly individual between us two, was the one to receive the initial marketing pitch from the company (we'll leave identification of individuals private). Overall, I would say they do a great pitch. The representative that they send is friendly, knowledgeable, and conveys a strong level of confidence in how the project will go, etc. The individual came back a second time to talk to me with my husband.. and even I was thoroughly convinced by the pitch. Once you sign the paper, that's where the rollercoaster ride starts. The first guys that came in were kind enough to lay down carpet covers to avoid stomping around in our Asian household (read: NO SHOES INSIDE) and on our brand new carpet. Subsequent contractors were less respectful and didn't bring shoe covers. We had to lay down our own carpet covers. Thankfully I wasn't present for most of the process because I'm sure I would have raised hell through each phase. They were relatively timely on the breakdown and removal. There were strong initial attempts to protect our property and minimize the construction mess. But once the actual work started, it seemed like there was just problem after problem. There were many pros and cons.. pros are evident by the final bathroom being done (finally).. My biggest qualms however were: (1) PRICE: we had to pay for a lot of additional things after the quote that just kept getting tacked on the original quote. It was frustrating to find out that certain tiles or things that we wanted were unavailable or could not be incorporated. We had to settle on several aspects. There is a payment plan option to make it more palatable. In retrospect, I think the project was on the higher end of what we could have found elsewhere. (2) FAILURE TO MEET TIMELINE: this is the MOST irksome part. We were told 4-6 weeks.. it took almost three months. With the various contractors that are required in any one job, I understand that the more parties there are.. the more likely there will be scheduling problems. But the timeline was edging on unreasonable. (3) AVERAGE COSMETIC JOB: I have never heard a contractor tell me your wall is crooked, therefore, there will be a gap between tile and wall in order have a straight tile surface. It's a minor aspect but gap bothers me every day like an itch in a spot you can't reach. Also, the white tiles that were chosen were shaved at the corners, leaving ugly brown rounded corners amidst the white tiles. Another itch. Also, we opted to keep the bathtub. They cracked the bathtub with removing the old parts around the tub. Rather than fix the tub, we were told we could pay more for someone to fix the cracked porcelain or go buy our own fix it kit. After all the extra costs, we opted for the fix it kit.. which i think is ridiculous. Oh but by the time we got around to it, the tub started to rust in the places where they damaged it. When you step back and look at the overall reno, it does look better than what we had. We're generally happy with the final product (my husband more than I)... and it is definitely an improvement. We did refer Treeium to another group of friends who did an even bigger project, but they had the exact same complaints we did so I feel that our comments are valid and verified. Prior to the unpleasant communications received from Eran Chan, I would have been happy to share that Treeium is *capable* of doing a good job and that we might return. With his harassment, I don't foresee our return or further referral.
