This was a very good local restaurant. The boathouse flatbread pizza was one of the best I have had anywhere. My aunt said the Salmon meal she had was very well cooked as well as the chicken my uncle had. We very much enjoyed the great attentive but not overly service. Very nice brunch with a great menu. On main street . There is inside seating that they are really adhering to social distancing . They have removed many tables to keep patrons far away from each other. It is a very large restaurant inside. That said we are still only eating outdoors now due to covid. The outside deck has umbrellas up but somehow they never seem to keep the sun away, so it can get very hot in the late morning and ally afternoon! Food was well presented and delicious. Not sure if I'm giving 5 stars because it's the first restaurant I've been in since early March......but the German Dip sandwich was AMAZINGLY DELICIOUS! The service was top notch and the restaurant was very attentive to social distancing. And the fries were perfectly crisp...I wish they gave us a bigger portion! They had hand sanitizer through restaurant. They have a really big space, unfortunately they can only fill to 50% capacity due to Covid. We had a great time. The Mediterranean mule drink was ok, a little weak. My hubby had the Reuben which he said was good, a little pricey though. Nothing like Katz's in NYC. But we understand, this is a tourist area. Thanks for a great meal! Update 8/3/20 *** Came back here for another mini vacation. This was our first dinner of this trip. I had the German dip again but this time wasn't as spectacular as the first time. The fries were definitely not as good as before-they were not fresh and crispy. We've been coming up to Lake Placid for Christmas for two years now and have to say that Generations is a must stop for breakfast during our trip! Generations has a nice cozy dining room with a fireplace. Their breakfast menu has a variety of breakfast fare, with options like egg scrambles, omelette, French toast and pancakes. My favorite option on the menu is the Armstrong omelette. It comes with cheese, ham, bacon, AND the most delicious maple sausage. It comes with a side of hash browns and toast. My dad got the Hasselhoff- a breakfast Bavarian pretzel (the first ive ever seen- what a unique idea). I stole a bite and let me tell you it was delicious!! I'd love to come in again another time to try out their lunch and dinner. If it's anything like their breakfast, I'm sure it is a treat! read more

This was the first restaurant I stopped at during my Lake Placid trip. I checked into my hotel at 5:30pm and had a reservation for 6:45pm to eat at Generations. Showed up 3 minutes late but was sat right away by the friendly host. Our server was very nice and attentive. Drinks and food came out quickly. It wasn't very crowded, but this was on a Thursday in June. I started with the German Onion Soup. It was very flavorful. I love me some French Onion. Their version uses Beer, Pretzel Bread and Swiss/Muenster Cheese. For my entree, I had the "Forever Wild" Ziti. It had a Pesto Sauce with Mozzarella and Tomatoes. The portion was huge! I had to take half of it to go! I'll definitely be back next time I'm hiking in the area... I want to tackle The Hasselhoff for breakfast... which is a Bavarian Pretzel stuffed with an Omelette, Home Fries, and your choice of Meat. read more

Back here a year later. Lunch this time instead of breakfast. It was just as good. Poutine was really tasty, the steak on top was really nice with the German style gravy. Wings were big and crispy. Burger was good and cooked medium rare. The bratwurst burger was solid as well. The view from the back room part of the restaurant is great. I've been to this restaurant twice, once in summer 2019 for dinner and once summer 2021 for breakfast. Both of my visits were really enjoyable and I didn't notice in difference in service or food quality on my second visit compared to my first which is a relief since lots of businesses in the area seem to be struggling due to the pandemic. Food both times was fresh and interesting - got the Generations Green salad for dinner (not sure if this is still on the menu) and the Wright Peak French Toast for breakfast. The waitress who served me on my last visit was fantastic and accommodating - I asked if I could have an egg on the side for my protein instead of a meat and she was happy to put that in for me. The building is also very light and spacious inside with lots of patio seating. Prices are also pretty good, especially for the quality of food. read more

We went here two nights on our vacation to Lake Placid. We were staying across the street so it was very convenient. They have happy hour every night until 7 PM. The restaurant overlooks the lake. On Friday night they had a live band in the bar. They played at a volume where you could still have a conversation. For dinner we had the delicious homemade pretzel appetizer and a chicken sandwich special. The service was good. They have a fire place in the dining area. We go to restaurants for good food and good service. When one is missing it spoils the entire experience. Unfortunately this was the case for us and quite honestly it was entirely their fault! My son and I arrived at 1:00. There was no one up front to greet us but there was a sign "wait to be seated". However there was a high top for 4 in the bar area directly in front of the host stand. The hostess came back and made eye contact with me so I assumed we were good. We waited and waited. No waitress, no water, no nothing. I then asked and she said she'd have someone over but it will take 10 minutes? Meanwhile the tables at bar area all around us had service? My wife and daughter arrived and we waited another 10 min. Finally after 30 minutes I approached the hostess again. She said someone would be right over. I said you said that 15 min ago? Her response - you should have checked in with me when you got here! I responded that you were not here and when you returned you looked right at us! She responded she didn't want to assume we wanted to eat? Really? Why else would anyone go to a restaurant and sit at a table? Her attitude and the continued slowness of the wait staff resulted 2 stars!! Never again!!! read more

Very excited to see such an awesome renovation. The place needed an update and they did it right - open door to sidewalk / veranda seating and open spacious bar area. We chose the bar and it had ample seating as well as diverse sporting events on tvs. Stopped in for happy hour. Service was great - both host and bartender - the bartender was friendly and efficient. 3.5 I'll be blunt up front...While Generations rated nearly 4 stars, it fell just a bit short in 2 categories. 1-hosting lapses, 2-a pair of food faux pas On our first visit we stood and waited after entering the door nearest the bar. While it appeared the restaurant was not crowded, the bar was. And we waited...and waited and nearly left. Finally the hostess came rushing out of the kitchen with a bag (apparently a carry-out order) and eventually came to ask if we wanted to be seated. I gave her an exasperated sigh..and indicated, "yes." While we waited for our food, we watched as our initial experience played out for other patrons. The greeter was appallingly lackadaisical and with an attitude of "meh, so what." Thank goodness our server was much more attuned to his guests and he checked back on us (appropriately) several times. He explained the menu carefully, offered to bring a sample of a local brew I wanted to try before purchasing, and was cheerful and polite. Onto the food: both our dinners were good (with a slight exception - read on). 1. Grilled Salmon on top of a bed of greens with peaches, walnuts and goat cheese crumbles. Great grill on one side of the fish but flabby skin on the other; plus an overabundance of red onions (see the photo). That amount of onion is a big uh-oh for a relatively mild-flavored dish like this. 2. An out-of-this world Waygu Burger that was undeniably the best burger I have ever tasted! Simply irresistible. ***** Kudos to the chef for using locally sourced foods from Giroux's Poultry Farm (eggs), Heidelberg Artisan Bread (featuring no preservatives or additives), McKenzie's artisan deli meats (no nitrates, no hormones & no antibiotics!), Donahue Family Farms Angus beef (Zowie!!!) And another pat on the proverbial back for growing their own herbs and spices on their rooftop garden (see photo). So....better greeters, crisp up that salmon skin, and cut back on the eye-watering "Allium Cepa" and you're on the way to more stars on our next visit. read more

I had a few meals at this place during my stay bay Lake Placid. Tried breakfast, lunch and dinners. I have to say this restaurant was consistent with the quality of food and service. The staff was super friendly and there has always been a family ambiance. The food is good. Some courageous choices showing the confidence and the ability of the Chef that was able to create unique salads and interesting main courses. The cheesecake is a very special one. Loved it. Overall a very pleasant experience. I wish they would be dog friendly as some of the other establishments are in the lake placid area. Will be back next time. read more

Really mediocre food. However, service is the real issue. First night- waitress dropped a drink and it splashed all over my sisters back and her white cashmere sweater. Now, I totally get things happen. But, she didn't say anything and tried to pretend she didn't see it. When my husband started helping my sister clean up, then she gave a measly "oh I'm sorry". There was no real apology, offer to help clean up, or even comp a drink in exchange. The rest of the drink sat on the floor for the duration of the dinner. When the food came, it was all cold. We also waited significantly longer than anyone else there to get our food. Food was pretty bad. Second day breakfast- overcharged the bill. Barely apologized when it was pointed out. They corrected. We figured accidents happen and we decided to give it another try the next day. Time constraints and having to eat before other businesses were open were the reason why we decided to go back. I will also say, the breakfast food is considerably better than the lunch/dinner. Third meal, breakfast again- overcharged again! When we pointed out that we were overcharged, the waitress said "oh my fingers must have just kept pushing the button". Sorry, what? So now we have two voided sales. I wish i had kept the receipt from dinner the first night. Accidents happen but this seems to be a pattern. Be weary and check your bill. I get the feeling they do this on the regular to increase sales/tips and assume most people won't notice. Also, when most of your business is from out of town, what do you have to lose? We ate here Saturday for lunch while in Lake Placid for the 40th anniversary celebration, all 4 of us thought the food was awsm. We started with the Pizza pictured, Wow, it was an explosion of flavor, just delicious. Carmelized onions, roasted red peppers, cauliflower crust, mesclun mix with a balsamic reduction. I had a steak sandwich, again, just delicious, bread was crispy, meat was tender and juicy, cheese melted perfectly and the Au Jus hot as it's supposed to be. This is a good little spot to grab a quick sit-down breakfast. We went on a Sunday morning at 8:30 and it was calm and quiet. The service was attentive and speedy. We were in and out in about 45 mins with a party of 5. The presentation of all the dishes were fantastic. I was definitely not expecting breakfast plates to be present in a fine dining style; it was a pleasant surprise. I had the Mt. Emmons omelette and the chipotle aioli was fantastic. However, the f.g.t. Arnold was probably the dish we all liked the most. They both indoor and outdoor seating, we chose to sit inside because it was a bit chilly in the morning. My family of four all loved this restaurant. It was big and airy and well decorated. They had both table and bar dining. We had everything from soups to salads to burgers to appetizers, and everything was delicious. The Brussels sprouts with gnocchi was supposed to be a shareable appetizer, but it easily makes a meal. I had a salad with the sweet/spicy shrimp added, which was exactly what I wanted after a vacation without enough vegetables. The soups were flavorful and filled with meat and veggies. This was undoubtably the very worse meal I have had in years. I don't even know where to start..I was with a party of 4 for lunch.. I ordered a turkey club with house kettle made chips. OMfriggin' lord. That was quite possibly the worse club sandwich I have ever been served. For starters the bacon on the sandwich was LITERALLY so over cooked it was black. It was sooooo bad. My husband and my uncle order their version of a Reuben DONT ORDER THIS if you like Reuben's. It was disgusting and neither of them could get beyond their second bite. Go somewhere else and the bill was $95.00 for 4 and no one had alcohol. Perfect location right on the Lake Placid strip. Our server was extremely friendly and gave us great recommendations for food. I got the "four seasons club" which I asked for no bacon with and my friend got the mac and cheese. When the club sandwich came out it did have bacon on it but the server fixed it fast, although when I kept biting into it I could tell there was still bacon inside. Its attached right to the Golden Arrow, so if you're staying there it's right next door. I was so surprised to see that they carry drinks I've ever only seen in two other places before! And the pitchers are huge! I recommend getting one for the table. Oh! Was one of the few uncrowded restaurants in lake placid which should have been a red flag, but we took our chances and very glad we did. From the drinks to the food, it was excellent. We loved the option of getting a "half salad" to start. The German bratwurst dish was amazing. The banana split was excellent as well. Our waiter, Ryan, was very engaging and apologized profusely about how backed up the bar and the kitchen were. My only comment to others is "please chill out about service". So many places are so short staffed, we need to re-evaluate what is acceptable for service - and it shouldn't be based on precovid service. All in all we definitely would go back!! read more
