This complaint is regarding Generator Power Systems (GPS) and their failure to complete our generator installation despite full payment on June 11, 2025. The technician, William Easton, arrived that day but left due to weather, promising to return June 12. He returned but couldn't complete the job and said he'd be back later that day with another technician--he never came. On June 16, he returned and said a part was needed, assuring us it would be "emergency shipped" through their connection with Kohler and that the General Manager would call. That call never happened. A week later, on June 23, I contacted GPS and was told the part had "just been ordered," contradicting earlier claims. I was promised a mid-week update that didn't happen. On June 26, I followed up again and was told the same thing--without any further communication. On June 27, after another failed call, I received four inconsistent emails from Becky Showers, GPS's accountant, with conflicting part order dates (June 17 and June 23) and no clear plan for resolution. On July 3, I was informed the wrong part had been ordered and the installation could not take place. I was told the correct part would be "emergency shipped" again, with no confirmed date. Despite repeated promises, no one from GPS management contacted me until I issued a firm written deadline for a response by June 30. We've experienced a complete lack of follow-through, transparency, and customer care--leaving us without a working generator during Texas storm season. This situation has dragged on for over three weeks since payment, with no resolution and no accountability from GPS. read more

GPS does a great job of inspection to the system, know the issues that pop up, and are very knowledgeable of the equipment.

Technician William showed right at the appointed time to perform my first generator maintenance check-up. He was very thorough in explaining the requirements and also explained basic preventative maintenance I could perform. My experience with Generator Power Systems has been frustrating, disappointing and discouraging. It has been over a year since the representative came out and evaluated my property for a location to place the generator. My Kohler Generator is still sitting in my yard and it is not functional. It has been one fiasco after another. I have never felt so disrespected and unappreciated as a customer in all of my prior business experience. I have received different and conflicting updates from different people every time I call. It is not uncommon for phone calls not to be returned. When installation people were scheduled to come out to install the concrete pad, electrical wiring, gas hook up and Generator. I often times would not be told by phone call but instead by an email the morning that they were to arrive. This is very inconsiderate and it's assuming that I don't work or have any other scheduled appointments. The installers left the 2 1/2 to 3 feet long stubs that were sticking out of the ground along the path of the electrical wiring. For months I requested that someone please remove them and I was told to take them out myself. I finally had to pull them out myself. It was difficult because they were at least 2 1/2 feet deep in the ground and I had to fill in the remaining holes at six separate sites. I am a female senior citizen and I found this appalling. I would not recommend this company to anyone. I regret that I ever purchased my Generator from this company and if I could do it all over again, I never would have anything to do with them. read more

A follow-up to my original review: In early April '21 after trying many times to contact GPS with no success, I phoned Kolher Corp. directly to request assistance. I was contacted a few days later by Shannon Fish. Shannon took control of the situation and ordered the necessary parts to complete the repair. The repair was finally completed in June '21 after an outage of about 6-7 months. It turns out that the controller board was significantly overcharging the battery which caused the failures. Our warranty had expired and a new replacement controller board costs over $2000. The GPS tech Shayne deployed a less expensive solution (~$600) to the battery charger which has been working well so far. I recommend getting an extended warranty. read more

They are honest, reliable, dependable, thorough, professional, and fair. I am proud to say that I highly recommend Generator Power Systems (GPS) & Fish Electric, Inc. for any work of this type you may have. I probably could of sub-contracted this work but sure glad I didn't. My electrician and plumbing contractors advised me to use a contractor who specifies in this type of work turn-key. I high expectations for the products & services I buy. I learned long ago that low-bid usually comes with low expectations and inferior results. All projects will have problems along the way regardless. The way these problems are handled separates the good from the bad in a hurry. More times than not you never see the low-bid people again and find yourself starting over. I obtained 3 quotes. GPS gave a complete quote package and all the technical information I requested, including consulting with Kohler in regards to any unique details of the install. Mike Bell was my consultant. No hard sell - let their reputation and product speak. Very knowledgeable. On-site consultation. All very smooth. One price, all-inclusive, true turn-key. The problems I had with the other quotes were them not providing information I requested. One told me I could google the generator for myself. They wanted me to facetime them, walk around my place videoing everything, and measuring as I went. Neither knew what turn-key means. "Tax, Permits Extra, TBD." "Gas Meter upgrade not included." What else may there have been? GPS was not the lowest quote, but I bet by the end of the job they are. They have a close trusted relationship with CenterPoint, both gas & electrical delivery. This is very important on both sides and can add weeks to the process if one is not familiar with the technical and legal requirements. GPS consulted with City Permits and the inspector, getting Kohler involved to make sure all were on the same page long before the work was even scheduled. Jose Guandique and crew were our electrician and besides being knowledgeable & confident in their work, they met the inspector (very particular and thorough in his own right) on-site and looked at every wire one-by-one until the inspector was satisfied. The working relationship with CenterPoint and local inspectors is very important. They have to turn your power off during the install of the transfer switch and panels, get an inspection, and get CenterPoint to reconnect your power. We were only down about an hour. Without a smooth transition with these entities you could be out of luck until things are resolved. Shannon kept me aware of every step and scheduling details. The first crew (Rick) came in and poured a concrete pad (they don't use flimsy throw-down composite pads) and hand-dug the trench which was very hard work in out hard ground and was done in a workman-like manner. Like all their people that came out, the plumbing crew were on-time & left a clean location. They completed their gas line work and passed inspections without incident. The next step was coordinating with CenterPoint Gas to upgrade the gas meter. This can leave you with gas service for bit but GPS made sure everything was ready and went without a hitch. With all the work complete Chris Rodriguez came out and certified (tested) the system and gave us a little class on how to operate it. Actually, there is very little to do but there's a few things you need to know and mainly stuff NOT to do. We have opted for the full-service contract and monitoring so things get taken care of even during a big storm event. When I spend my money, I want to enjoy the process. It's cathartic for me. I truly appreciate watching fine "neat & workmanlike manner" happening in front of me. All-in-all, Generator Power Systems (GPS) & Fish Electric, Inc. provide high-quality equipment and service. This past scheduled maintenance, they missed the scheduled time frame & arrived after I left my home. Yvonne sent an estimate to replace one for $600 and there were 5 to replace. She is deceitful and not helpful . Beware! Generator Power Systems did not honor a signed agreement for a generator install at my residence. Their salesman/analyst missed the mark on the electrical needs at my residence. The result was we were charged by Generator Power Systems an additional $2,112 over the $14k bill for the system before they would complete the install. The additional charge occurred 10-months after the original agreement at $14k was signed. Generator Power Systems sent their analyst out to provide a bid for my 1967 residence in Oct. 2021. They provided a bid that was acceptable (compared to another high volume generator company). We signed and waited and waited for our turn for installation. On the day of installation (Aug. 2022) the Centerpoint inspector arrived to review the pending work. At that point everything stopped. I got a phone call from the salesman saying Centerpoint was not going to allow the install to proceed as it was inadequately analyzed by Generator Power Systems. As a result, I received a second bid to upgrade my electrical system in order to allow Centerpoint to approve the install. I selected Generator Power Systems after a friend had a good result for their generator install. In my case GPS refused to accept responsibility for inadequately assessing what was needed, then essentially put the blame on Centerpoint. To me the responsibility should be with the company that holds the electrical license and holds themselves out as the expert. read more

I am not going into the details but just wanted to post that I found Yvonne Fish ( the person who makes decisions) one of the meanest, sarcastic and unprofessional people that I've ever had to deal with. I obtain several quotes from generator dealers. A few of them stated some questionable information. I contacted Mr. Fish about the information I received from these dealers and he explained things even though I should have directed my questions to the other dealer. The bid I received from GPS was in the ball park of the other dealers. It wasn't the lowest and it wasn't the highest. The installation of the generator was trouble free. The office gave me updates concerning the step by step process and they handled everything. The longest issue was dealing with the city permits. If one wants a generator then I highly recommend you hire an installer that is electrical trained and licensed. I stood over and watched the GPS guys do the electrical wiring for the transfer switch and house panel. This is not something you should allow a fly by night electrician to do. He used to do all the offshore generators for all the major oil companies as well as the medical center generators while working for Caterpillar. He was knowledgeable, efficient and hard working. One of the worst service companies I've ever had to deal with. Paid them $2000+ to fix my generator and another $2600 for their 2 year service and monitoring agreements. They kept telling me that they had it working but it never came on even once including before and after Harvey. Now they don't return calls or emails and I'm handing it to an attorney. Plus, I found a different local company and they came out once and it's worked fine since. Stay clear. read more

My generator that is under service contract with Generator Power Systems did not turn on when we lost power. I called and explained what was going on as we had just had annual service a couple months prior. They sent the senior technician as soon as he finished his current job. Great Service and Great Products. We bought our Generator from them about 7 years ago. They always call me when it is time to service it and that is a no brainer for me. When I do call for service they always come out in a timely manner and send a Service Tech that is knowledgeable with my Generator. Service first class and Service Techs are very qualified. Rating based solely on potential job interaction as no actual work was done.. What started out as a good experience speaking the first day with Brian a very knowledgeable Tech...who explained well how their Kohler standby operated, different programs their group is involved with including CPoint program. As I don't have CenterPoint as my gas provided here outside of Tomball, Brian did not mention their would be any issues plus with other additional incentives. Brian then said he would turn everything over to David in sales to come out and provide the actual quote. Had to call twice to get David to talk and at which time I had thought we had an time slot to come out late Thursday afternoon...but he didn't have it on his schedule, which was fine...reset for another time no problem. We discussed our requirements, he just comes out and indicates it's going to cost at a minimum $10,500...and that's their starting turn-key price...continuing the discussion he said with additional gas line required it would be $11,000...so wow. So it appears then that what ever the cost of the generator the install price is a little higher than the generator itself...pretty close he said. We then discuss promotional programs (CenterPoint)...nope don't get it because we don't have CP as provider...ok then...so how can I be quoted a firm price when the installation would be less difficult compared to others...no permits close to power drop down, etc. I suggested that I'm not sure i wanted have their company do this joy with the flipping and flopping of info. I can't even begin to tell you how much G.P.S. Has helped my family. I bought my first full home generator from them back in 2011. Turns out to be one of the best investments I ever made. Generator Power made it so easy, and always had time to answer any question I could think of. Every time the power goes out, within 10secs that generator comes on, and life is back to normal. I also love when the electric grid kicks back in, that generator shuts off, without me doing a thing! And with regular maintenance check ups by G.P.S. during the year, I never had any problems. So when I moved to a new home, the first thing on my list, was to get another generator for the new place! And yes, I went right back to G.P.S., because they know what they're doing! We received several quotes for generators and unlike the previous reviewer, the bid from Generator Power Systems was the lowest. Of course sometimes the lowest is not the best but in this case I believe it was. Jim Fish gave us all the information we needed and more. He answered all our questions directly, using terms we could easily understand (unlike some of the other companies we talked to about generators), I dealt with Jim Fish, a very nice woman at their office, and a couple of technicians. Everyone was friendly, professional, and knowledgeable. The installation was exceptional and the technician took much more time than I would expect to explain the operation of the generator and demo the system. What a wonderful company. We have not lost power since the installation but I know when we do our household will not skip a beat (in terms of cooling and electronic conveniences).
