Personal favorites for drinks were the paper plane and a clarified hwachae inspired cocktail. Service is super attentive- my glass never went empty the whole meal. The different flavors of rice cake were very unique and a very nice starter from the à la carte menu. The signage is pretty minimal and choosing which way to enter can be confusing. I came through the 10 ave entrance and was greeted by gracious staff and some signage next to glass double doors. We were escorted upstairs via elevator and entered a beautifully modern & tastefully Korean inspired interior. The tea salon's "ceiling" mimics the roof tiles and structure of traditional Korean homes. The H shape of the "tiles" is a nod to Hyundai I assume and the staff attitude appeared to be modernized hanbok. Dining area had similar feel with open shelving emulating a Korean still life painting style called chaekgado roughly translating to books and things. I personally appreciated all the thought put into each detail as a Korean but can imagine it being appreciated by a non-native as well. Needless to say, interior design was on point. Service was very attentive and courteous and explanations were helpful. Depth of introduction to the dishes dwindled towards the end though perhaps due to more junior staff (small nit) at the end but did not ruin the dining experience. We ordered the dinner tasting menu. All courses were top notch with generous portions. My favorites were the amuse bouche, hwe, and soup broth in the bonsik. The broth is I want to put this in my tumbler and carry it around to sip in the morning good (iykyk). We also got some extras since it was a special occasion and man were we full by the end of this. This place totally caught me off guard. I showed up to the address, saw a car dealership, and was genuinely confused (clearly not a car person ). But then you head upstairs to the second floor and--WOW. The space is stunning. Calm, refined, and beautifully designed in a way that immediately makes it feel like an elevated dining experience. The views of the water and Little Island are such a nice touch, and the acoustics are surprisingly great for a space like this--nothing feels loud or chaotic. The staff was incredibly kind and very quick to pick up on when we needed something without being overbearing, which made the whole experience feel even more seamless. The food definitely holds its own. I tried the lunch special, which was delicious and a great way to sample a variety of sides without breaking the bank. I also ordered their hot tea cocktail--so good and honestly big enough to share between two people. I already know I want to come back and try their high tea experience. I can see how the entrance might throw some people off since it's located inside what appears to be a dealership, but considering Genesis is a Korean automotive company, it was exactly what I expected. Some features: - The ground floor has genesis cars on display. - Upper level has the restaurant. - Lower level has an art exhibition. - The restaurant had a lot of natural light coming in which I enjoyed. I thought it would be a small menu but they had a handful of options on the menu. We first ordered tea (GAM-IP CHA, YASAENG SUGUK-IP CHA, and one of the SEJAK teas. I don't remember) which comes in a small teapot and matching cup. All the teas were nicely brewed and came in the perfect temperate. The remove the tea leaves before bringing it to you. We also ordered 구절판 which is a plate with 9 different fillings/toppings with a wheat wrap in the center. You wrap it up and eat it like a spring roll. Kings ate good back in the day haha. We then proceeded to order two desserts: HAECHO & SSAL. It was my first time trying both of these flavors in a dessert format. If you aren't familiar with the Genesis House (i.e. me, despite walking past by many times), the lobby is the showroom for Genesis, the basement has the special exhibition throughout the year, and the 2nd floor is the dining room. If you have a dinner reservation here, you can visit the exhibition before or after the meal. Jose, our friendly host, helped us with navigating the planning. The menu features a tasting menu and à la carte. For a restaurant that deserves a Michelin star, it is truly a gem to discover a very reasonably priced tasting menu. Since the four of us aren't particularly hungry, we ordered a bunch from à la carte to share. Our server, Patrick, was great at recommendations - beef tartare (order with the lotus chips), rice cake, pork noodles (daeji guksu), and short rib (tteokgalbi). Not only were the dishes beautifully presented, despite the simplicity of the name, each dish was carefully executed with traditional Korean cooking while adding a modern twist to it. While not typically a fan of short rib, turning it into a meatball was very tasty. The beverage menu was very fun too! We had the k-town soju pear + perilla (tasty and sweet), Hanbang (balanced), and two different kinds of makgeolli (try mixing both into one special kind). The service was outstanding! Hence, I'm not sure a restaurant above a luxury car dealership will achieve the same vibe on 14th Street that it might have in 압구정. As Emily in Paris would say, c'est un peu ringard. I opted for the 5 course vegetarian tasting menu - my absolute favorite was the house made tomato 쌈장 served with a trumpet mushroom steak - along with some apple kimchi, it was phenomenal paired with rice as the main course. I also absolutely loved the 죽 with lotus seeds - such a comforting dish that yet packed a ton of flavor. Some of the other appetizers were a bit less successful. The steamed zucchini had a beautiful presentation and interesting texture, but the smoky eggplant chutney didn't save it from some level of blandness. What we weren't told was that there was another line in the building and then another line once we were down the stairs. Almost fifty minutes later, we were finally almost pushed through the short exhibit filled with flowers that needed to be changed almost every day and a small bridge mobbed with people and an immersive video. I've had this place on my list for a while and happened to walk-in on a Friday night with my girl friend, after strolling the highline. We ordered a bottle of makgeolli, a Korean rice wine and some dishes to share. The duck confit bone broth was delicious, with the rice noodles. And the beef dumplings were also so tasty. The moment we arrived, there was someone to open the door, someone to take us up to the restaurant and from there to seat us at our table. Each of the dishes were presented exquisitely and the portions were normal, not excessive nor minuscule. We visited Genesis house again for their newest immersive experience, "The Forest Within," which is narrated by Gwenyth Paltrow. All the trees, flowers, plants, moss are real. It was relaxing and soothing and must have taken so much work to set up. Stay on the bridge for a few moments to see the changes happening in the sky and ground. The line outside was quite long when we arrived but it moved fast so maybe waited 20 mins tops, and 5 mins inside. The experience goes until June 29, 2025, Tues-Sun, 11am-8pm. First things first; this review covers both The Forest Within Exhibit and the Genesis House Restaurant. Seeking a new restaurant we hadn't visited, we booked online and arrived 10 minutes ahead of reservation to discover we were at a car showroom. We were ushered downstairs to the Forest Within, where a Thoughtfully laid 100 yard (approx) walk through an animated 360 immersive video played images of lush forest and beautiful volcanic activity played, with large elaborate sets made up of bamboo and hundreds of large flowering peonies. An interesting peaceful and calming, appetizer. Our table wasn't ready when we finally made it upstairs but a beautifully curated library separates the bar area from the cafe and restaurant seating areas. Again, calm, unhurried and peaceful. We considered the five course tasting menu, eventually opting for appetizers - delicious and delicate dumplings, crispy but overly salty seaweed. The steamed cod with a mushroom and anchovy broth was outstanding. Light and seasoned to perfection. Wine pour was stingy, less than a quarter of a glass. Service was initially very attentive, six different team members either refilled glasses of water, bussing, order taking, etc., but tailed off throughout the meal. We had to try out this restaurant out of curiosity! They have a really catchy and gracious name, and I'm a big fan of their cars. I even considered getting an EV GV60, but I'll save that story for another time. We were seated without much of a wait and this was with a last-minute reservation. The service was great and accommodating. This restaurant was above a Genesis car dealership by the Hudson River in the Chelsea neighborhood of NYC, and its interior and ambience were dimly lit and very elegant. I can imagine coming here on a date or for a night out with friends. Right after you exit the elevator, you were greeted by an impressive bar. However, the portion size was small for the price we were charged, but it was enough to satisfy us. The taste and flavors were good, and we wanted more, but we had drinks before dinner, so didn't order dessert. So we were able to walk through the exhibit before we were seated. Once we got to our table, we received very prompt and friendly service from our waitstaff. Our first waitress had a running joke that our two hosts had basically slept in on the first floor, because they had been at Genesis House the night before with other guests. After a brief introduction to the menu, we all decided to go with the four-course tasting menu. -First course was a sashimi dish that came with a sea brine broth. One of my favorites from this meal! Very umami, and the seafood was very fresh. -Second course was a small seafood porridge. While it sounds a little plain, this was another personal favorite for me. Also very umami. -Third course for me was a duck somyeon dish. On the menu, this dish was described as having duck confit, duck broth, and somyeon. On arrival, I was a little disappointed that I received a heap ton of noodles and just a very small portion of duck. Still very good, but I was expecting a little bit more from this dish. -Last course was dessert! We ordered one of each from the menu, so all of us could share. I most enjoyed the Korean pear sorbet, followed by the brown butter roasted burdock cake. Both dishes were unlike anything I've had before. All in all, I loved the dining experience here. This place is a Korean based hidden gem, containing a car show, cocktail, brunch, cafe, and tea spot. Level floor: Genesis was built in the last decade. It's a South Korea luxury car brand with cars beginning around 90k upwards. It prides itself on being a lifestyle brand as well with its food, tea, and bar session above. Some of the cars contain facial recognition unlocking, massage features, and a built in scent diffuser. Upstairs: they have a Korean food dining fusion, a tea house, and a bar. I came here on a weekday morning, and it was very empty. I was told by employees that this is a hidden study spot and relaxation spot that most people would not expect. I would say it's a speakeasy (simply because it's hidden) mixed with a lifestyle vibe. Restaurant: food is on the pricier side for portions. It was $28 for a kimchi fried rice after tip and taxes. It starts at noon and includes Mandu, Korean fried chicken, rice with pork belly, buckwheat noodles, and japchae. I ordered their kimchi fried rice and it has gorgeous presentation but needs more flavor. The tea bar: they offer tea ranging from $15-45 or so for a pot. The restaurant is really modern and has open floor to ceiling windows where you can overlook the hudson river/ west side manhattan. They have free coat check when you walk in before you are seated. There is a restaurant section on the right and then some tables on the left side where you can just get tea or coffee. It's a high end Korean restaurant. Food is family style so order a bunch of dishes to share. The appetizers are really small and pricey. We got the mushroom crepe and chilled Abalone that came with Diver Scallop, Snow Crab, Octopus, Poached Egg, Pine Nut Sauce. The mushroom crepe was really small like you could prob eat it in one bite. As for the abalone it was $39 and tastes delicious but small portion for the price. We got large plates to share - grilled chicken and cod. There was a rice dish that we shared but it didn't come with many toppings. The grilled chicken is a good portion, I would recommend getting this. Finally, we got a japchae to share, it was very flavorful. Overall the dishes were good but you probably won't be full unless you order a lot. Dishes average $30-40. There is also a tasting menu that was around $185. If you're looking for a luxurious space with large windows to eat modern korean food then this is your spot.
