So after a most disappointing experience with trying to satisfy a chocolate covered pretzel craving last week at a south Jersey homemade chocolate shop that fell so badly flat, I circled back to this old reliable. The chocolate is super smooth and tasty. The dark chocolate is great too. My overall favorite is definitely just a good chunk of milk chocolate. They also have the fruit and nut pieces that are to die for. You can really taste the difference in it being homemade, they're generous with their add-ins. DD picked up the slack and runs a tight ship. Milk chocolate covered pretzels are my go to. Back in 1972 I won a 5 foot chocolate bunny from here for Easter. Never stopped going back. Delicious chocolates with a good assortment to choose from. The shop is a little on the small side but it was packed with delish chocolates. I noticed a review for Genevieve's while browsing my "nearby Yelp feed", and I am glad I did. I never had been to this section of Garfield. The store is located in a mostly residential area of Garfield. I came here to pick up some chocolates for Valentine's day. The store was pretty busy but they kept the line moving along. The chocolate covered strawberries were a big hit. The wife loved them. They had a thick coating of very tasting milk chocolate on them. I loved the chocolate covered oreos. Great tasting and they were nicely decorated (see my pic). They had a nice selection of chocolates and other sweets. Definitely a great local business to support! read more

This is THE best place for chocolate. Once you try it, you will be hooked on the fresh, creamy flavor of real homemade milk chocolate. It's just so good. I used to live a mile away so we would stop in every time we stopped at the bakery right across the street. This is my childhood stomping ground for all things chocolate. It was here that I became a fan of white chocolate, the elusive and often hard to perfect, less popular shade in the chocolate family. I never understood when everyone cringed when I said I loved white chocolate until I tasted other brands' versions...ick! What can I say, I've been completely spoiled by the homemade chocolate treats that I make the journey back (to my childhood neighborhood) to every Easter. When you walk into this tiny, unassuming shop, you're immediately intoxicated by the delicious aroma of chocolate. It's a tiny family run store that has shelves lined up with delectable chocolate creations in the shapes of bunnies, kitties, and elaborate Easter sculptures; all crafted with love and chocolate goodness. My favorite treats include the dark or milk chocolate covered crackers, the dark chocolate covered oreos, the solid eggs and bunnies, as well as the coconut eggs. You really can't go wrong with whatever you get. The jelly beans are also the best I have ever tasted. I simply love this place. I just want to say I used to love there chocolate strawberries,but this Valentines Days batch was the worst quality and clearly price gauging at a wapping $21 a pound these medium smaller berries dipped really heavy felt like chewing on ice almost broke my teeth.... literally 3/4 thick chocolate around a entire a small berry is way to much in my opinion.. so I paid $34 for four pieces not even a half dozen to enjoy with my lady! Totally killed the vibe we were in a chocolate coma after eating one! YOUR BETTER THEN THIS! Me and my whole family love coming here. My mom and her family have grown up coming here since they were kids and lived in the area. Now I come here for candy especially around Easter. They have candy and chocolate that is different from every other place. Amazing! There plane is quiet and clean. The staff are all very warm and helpful. Pricing is on par with most homemade chocolate shops but felt compelled to write this review after being charged $38 for 6 strawberries. It didn't really dawn upon me at that moment but that is ridiculously expensive. I understand being charged by the pound and the quality was excellent but just wanted to warn customers that u may be buying a strawberry at $6.41 each. Maybe it was just my batch that was too heavily coated with the milk chocolate. Definitely good quality though and will certainly return. read more

My 92 year old grandmother has been going to Genevieve's for over 50 years along with the rest of my family giving them A LOT of business over the years which we will no longer be doing. This past weekend my grandmother stopped in for some chocolate fruit and nut eggs for Easter. When she got home she realized she picked up the wrong flavored chocolate eggs. She went back to the shop and explained to the owner her dilemma thinking he would be kind enough to let her swap them out for the correct eggs and pay the difference in the price. He rudely pointed to a sign and said NO they have a no return/exchange policy. I understand that there is a policy, but she was literally just in the shop 20 minutes prior, picked up the wrong eggs by mistake, and none of the packaging was opened. As a business owner you should be flexible as the people who are your biggest supporters and most loyal customers keep your business running. Needless to say my grandmother was in tears when she brought over the eggs on Easter Sunday and explained the terrible experience she had after all these years of being loyal to this mom and pop shop who she was a true supporter of. I myself and the rest of my family are disgusted and will never shop here again. It's unfortunate, but this could have been resolved in a nicer manner. I drove all the way out to Genevieve's in New Jersey from Long Island, NY simply because I heard that they were the best in the game! And guess what? They are absolutely incredible. Chocolate is made on prem and is so good. The chocolate covered strawberries made on Easter and Valentines Day are the best I have ever had (even better than Godiva and that says a TON.) Growing up in town this place is a staple for delicious homemade chocolate. Valentine's the gave fresh chocolate covered strawberries and Easter tons of bunny and chick shaped chocolates as well as filled eggs. They offer sugar free versions of some of the chocolates. Truffles, chocolate & but, and chocolate jellies by the pound. This place once had a full stock of Teddy bears, stuffed animals, and gift cards although over the years as shopping turned online and more use of eCards those shelves emptied a bit. My aunt has been buying chocolates for my wife for as long as I can remember. She always purchased a 2lb box of mixed milk and dark chocolate and the box contained a mix fruits, nuts and jellies. It was always a hit for my wife. Unfortantley, my aunt passed away and I had to carry on the tradition of a 2lb box from Genieve's. Wow. Words fail me. I'm a bit of a chocolate snob, having eaten candy from Paris to Istanbul and sadly I pass on most candy nowadays as it's hard to get excited unless it's something special. Well, let me say Genevieve's is a special place. I just got a box of their candy for Valentine's Day and ... wow. Their chocolate is truly outstanding. Sweet but subtle, great mouth feel, no aftertaste that's common with so much manufactured chocolate (and even some homemade chocolates). The taste of a Genevieve's chocolate changes as you chew or even hold it in your mouth. It's quite an experience. Really, it can't compare to any candy I've had in recent memory. The last time I had truly memorable candy was at Ladurée in France, and that's really saying something considering Ladurée's been making top notch candy for the last 150 years. Honestly, I'm surprised I hadn't heard of them until today. They're so damn good. read more
