The place is so dirty. That always makes me wonder about the kitchen. Of the three rows of trays, all three on top had food on them. One piece was 1" by 1". How could the cleaner or the person who brought them out not see that? Then, we had to dig through several sauce bowls to find a clean one. Made us wonder about the pans that the food was in. I asked the cook to have a manager come meet us at a table. She promptly yelled across the restaurant to the bar tender to come over. Ok where do I start... I'm from Michigan and I was visiting my daughters who live in Texas and they took me to this place. They have different size bowls you get and fill with your choice of meats and veggies, seasoning oils and dry seasonings and sauces. The food was cooked perfectly and the selections were wide I really enjoyed the freshness of everything there. Our waitress was very attentive the place was clean and moderate noise. Kids are also welcomed and they have high chairs. They serve nice drinks also and they have a small bar area. I'll definitely go back again whenever I'm there. read more

I used to come years ago and the food and customer service was great. Now the service is horrible. Our server Josh was very distracted with the bar area. Took us 30 minutes to get silverware and water. We didn't get our drinks until after our food was out. Service was very horrible. I do not recommend going here. Update: 9/30/17 Visit Hubby and I went in at 8:00pm on a Saturday evening to get food to go. We headed to the bar, which wasn't very busy, neigh was the entire dining area for that matter. It looked like they had more call in orders than anything. We waited about 10-15 minutes for the bartender to finish up either her tables (she had some HS students who were dressed up for Homecoming that needs their checks). No problem. We ordered and got our bowls and hubby paid immediately so we wouldn't have to wait later. We go through the line to fill out bowls. No issues. We wait for an hour to get our food. Not sure what the issue was but it was kinda ridiculous. I had a regular bowl with nothing but veggies and tofu that came out in a large to go box. My husband ordered a large bowl that came out in a small to go box. We questioned if it was the right order but looked and it was. When we get home, my veggies were still raw (the squash, zucchini, and broccoli) and I had to finish cooking it in my wok. Really? That's kinda why we went out for dinner, so we didn't have to cook. Hubby got a large bowl that comes with 3 sides of starches (rice, noodles etc) he ordered two orders or fried rice and and order of noodles. We knew he barely got sides when his LARGE bowl ended up in a small to go box, and my regular bowl was in a large to go box. He had maybe 1/4 cup of rice and about 12 noodles in his entire bowl. Genghis lost customers this weekend. We will stay home and make our own from now on. So done with the constant disappointment every time we go in. The food is always prepared perfect here. I typically have poor service unless I go on non-busy hours (aka lunch during the week or right when they open). Even then, it's subpar. I am glad they finally took away the tablet kiosk at the tables. Those were horrible. Their new kale and veggie potstickers are amazing. The jalepeno dipping sauce they serve with them is fantastic. I gave this place a one star because we honestly didn't get an opportunity to taste their food. It was the service! They were closed on today due to "plumbing issues" per the sign on the door. We still weren't sure since we saw a child in the window; workers inside; and another guy in the restaurant. So we pull the door and it was unlocked... We were met by one of the rudest employees screaming.. WE ARE CLOSED, WE ARE CLOSED; and to add insult to injury she was signaling the "cut throat sign"... I tried to apologize but she continued to charge toward us and promptly locked the door. Kindness goes a long way and you never know what someone is going through, today my husband and I had gone through a lot. It was a friday night and it was packed popular place. After getting our table you grab a bowl and start putting as many things into your bowl as possible (Tip:push it all down). Once you do that pick what you want to add rice,noodles or tortillas wait a bit and enjoy your bowl of goodness. The service isn't the best i just don't like it when waiters come over all night asking me how is everything. Maybe once or twice is nice just not 4 to 5 times in a night then when i really need something your no where to be found ugh! oh well my bowl makes me happy Might be $14 for an unlimted dinner bowl not really sure but that is what i paid my last visit. We walked in, waited at the door to be seated for ~10 mins and walked out. During that time, no one even acknowledged we were there. I have to say this place has really gone down hill. The bench we sat on had 6 different places it was "repaired" with duct tape. The folder where the check is brought to the table was also "repaired" with masking tape. While the food was hot and fairly tasty, our appetizers which we asked to have as starters came out after our plates, not sure how to fix that but would have appreciated the food in order. If this was the only restaurant in Texas, I would NOT give this location a penny. I am a teacher who is Uber Eating this summer and have learned there are a few places I will no longer support. I've picked up at this location multiple times (more than 5) and each time the staff is incredibly rude. The last 2 times the staff did not even make eye contact with me for over 10 minutes. There was a tall guy behind the bar with his mask below his chin who intentionally ignored me, a heavier lady making drinks behind the bar who intentionally ignored me, and a pretty younger girl who eventually gave me the order who ignored me. They were not overly busy or drowning with to go orders, none were on the shelf. They were just freaking rude! Happens every time. They ignored people trying to be seated as well. I would contact the manager, but this must be allowed as it has been every time. Probably more of a corporate concern with this level of rudeness. The Greenville Avenue location has been great to pick up from. It's just the people at this one. Give that location your money. read more

I visited #TX40 today. The number on the receipt was 353553543266. I had great service from the waitress Keke. I had an issue with the tea so I informed her and she asked if I wanted something else. I always get a sweet tea with grenadine and a lime. She brought that out but something just wasn't right. So I asked her for a sweet tea with no ice. I told her something was wrong with the tea, because it tasted weak and it wasn't sweet. She asked if I wanted something else, I finally came up with a Sprite. When Keke brought the bill out I asked her if her manager would take off the drink. She said I already spoke with him about it but he wouldn't take it off. I paid the bill, but I stopped to speak with the manager before I left. He explained to me that it was just letters on the ticket and one said tea and the other said Sprite. I told him it didn't matter what letters were on the ticket my experience was not good because I did not have my tea the way I like it. Then he said but you got a drink. I said yes but not the drink I always get. He said I took the $.50 off for the grenadine. I said it's not about the money, it's about my experience. Then he proceeds to tell me that it would not look good on the store if they voided my drink. So I told him why should I care about how it looks on the store, you would just have to admit that someone on your staff made a mistake with the tea. I said because you or one of your staff made a mistake you could just say sir I apologize for the inconvenience and your drink is on me. He was not trying to understand anything I was saying. He told me I could contact his management. So I just left the store before anything escalated. read more

Everything about this location is awesome...except for the location itself! This restaurant is surprisingly tiny for the amount of traffic it requires. After waiting 20 minutes (because I guess they greatly underestimated the popularity of this place) you grab a bowl and a seat. Your waiter comes and gets your drink order, and then you're off to the races!!! Take your bowl with you and line up in the buffett line- the uncooked buffett line! It's extremely overwhelming to decide what ingredients would go together in a delicious way while a family of 5 is waiting impatiently behind you, but eventually you get the hang of it , and there are recipe cards to help you along. I chose a bunch of seafood (scallops, shrimp, crab), the dragon sauce and spices, and a BUNCH of veggies. As a vegetarian now I cannot wait to go back and fill up on the veggie options. Once your bowl is topped off in the uncooked line, you take it to the grill, pick a starch, and grab a number. I chose noodles and I sat back down. In a few minutes a waiter was back with my new, heated bowl and I scarfed that mutha down! Delicious! Not bad for 10 bucks! I was a little incredulous about this place, since I had never been to a restaurant like this even though they've been popping up everywhere over the passed years. But even with low expectations, the whole experience was underwhelming. First off, there's just something off about the place. There was this scent in the air which was noticeable to me and another person I was with -- almost like a light scent of something rotting. With the open grill and food sizzling right next to us I would've expected to be smelling THAT instead. The place was also a bit dirty even though it's still relatively new -- add to that the floors were sticky. Despite all this I was just ready to eat and when I thought I about it, there have been several authentic, hole-in-the-wall Asian restaurants that could use a little cleaning up but have amazing food . That might be a little optimistic considering Ghengis Grill is an American chain, but whatever. Once we fixed our bowls with what we wanted (we all stuck close to the guidelines typed on the cards so that we wouldn't deviate too much) we just waited for the food. Once it was ready and we ate I realized none of it tasted very good, and portions were small. Panda Express probably would have been better (dare I say...) and for much less money. Picking out the ingredients and sauces was fun, but I'm pretty sure I won't be back. I've heard of other places similar to Genghis which are better. read more

I use quotes because it only had 4-5 stools, and none of the "bartenders" were actually serving drinks. We waited a solid 15-20 minutes for a table that would be "ready in 5 minutes." Awesome. Complaint #2: Terrible wait staff. Really guys? All you had to was shuttle bowls of kibble from the giant grill to the table with the right number on it. Well, that and refill drinks. For some goddamn reason these idiots stood around in the back hallway by the bathroom yukking it up. It was impossible to even get a friggin glass of water. Complaint #3: When did this place get so damned expensive? I had my feeble bowl of chicken and WATER, yet that still set me back over $10. Seriously? To sum up... if you want Chinese food (which this is, essentially), THEN GO TO A CHINESE RESTAURANT WHERE THEY WOULD BE HAPPY TO WAIT ON YOU, BRING YOU A DRINK, AND THEY'LL EVEN LET YOU ORDER OFF THE MENU LIKE AN ADULT. We visited in celebration of my little brothers birthday. Our waiter, Jeff took us to our table and wished him a happy birthday. I've always thought you couldn't expect much of a waiter during lunch rush, but we were blown away by Jeff's service to us. He kept our drinks full, made sure we had everything we needed, and kept a smile on his face. We were fully satisfied, but it only got better. Can you say "YUM"!?!?! How can one go wrong when they let you choose ALL the ingredients you put in your food, and help you with what you're unsure of? The restaurant was clean, and food turn around time was acceptable. The one thing my friends and I had issue with was a friend ordered a mix drink (Mojito), and it wasn't that it tasted off, it tasted NASTY. Instead of immediately taking it back, the server asked if he could fix it for her, so he did not get in trouble for wasting alcohol on a drink he made. SERIOUSLY!!?!?!? Me and my 2 friends had all worked restaurants with bar service, and that we found to be a totally unacceptable question. It was also the birthday girl's drink, so even more shame on him. Another thing is, we used coupons, and sometimes that gives servers the idea that they'll get a lower tip. For me, and these friends, it is actually the opposite. We tip on the original amount, and then some! The service wasn't bad, just NOT as great as we had expected. Was it the coupons, or was it just too much going on this particular Saturday night? Now how can you be an Asian food restaurant with no shrimp. Apparently it is too expensive to keep on the menu, but with as expensive as the food is, I don't see how they could take it off the list. Not our best experience. When we walked in the restaurant it smelled bad. I know they have raw meat out but it smelled more potent today. One of the employees was taking out the trash and had to drag it through the restaurant while people are eating their meals. While the employee is taking the trash out, one of the bags leaks and drips some liquid on the floor. They were prompt about cleaning it up. The food was good as usual. read more

Second, we ordered some appetizers and he even repeated them back to me and they never showed up. Third, table next to us got seated and they waited more than 20 mins for the same waiter for drinks and they just got up and left. Then we get our drinks and we werent given any straws even with this pandemic stuff going around, he must of wanted us to drink from the cup. We get our food and wasnt given any silverware, we had to ask for it ourselves. So what do you call your created mouth-watering noodle and fried rice Genghis bowl? Delicious!!! I admit that I was nervous as I grabbed a little of this and a little of that and (maybe too much?) of that. I began to wonder if my selections would be tasty, or well, if I would even be able to eat this food once it was put together on the grill and served in a bowl to me. But yes!! I loved it!! So much so that I tried to finish it while it was fresh, but there was no way I could, so I opted for the generous "to go" carton so I could bring it home for my son to enjoy. And he did!! So, in summary, the food was wonderful! The service?? I couldn't have been more pleased with Jackie (our sweet server) and Tyler (on the grill). They were very patient in answering all of my questions and offering advice in areas where I needed it. Jackie checked on us several times, assuring that we didn't need anything else to make this an enjoyable lunch experience. She even told us that they are about to remodel the restaurant.
