Tried to take my lil loves to one of our favorite spots for dinner tonight...and had the worst experience. It has left me with the oddest feeling, almost like being cheated on, but by a restaurant, and on Valentine's Day, no less. I've been making the EXACT same bowl at Genghis Grill for as long as I can remember (almost 10 yrs). Exactly the same, every time. You know those bowls are so damn small, if you get any kind of veggies on top of the meat they just roll out onto the floor.... So I get my spinach first, roll it up, then my meat and then on down the line like everyone else. Do you know they tried to tell me I had to pay $5 extra to get veggies before meat???? As I stand there dumbfounded, the manager comes to tell me why...he first lies to me by saying it's a "Health Code violation"....When I called him on it, since it would be BLATANTLY ILLEGAL for him to charge $5 for allowing someone to violate a health code...he back peddled and said it was to deter people from doing it. One would figure that in the spirit of good customer service and the fact that it was valentines day a good manager would offer to waive the fee this time, but know the new rule next time, nope, he stood there and demanded I pay $5. Whatever was in our bowls, left behind I had to walk out with a crying 9 year old, because remember this is one of my family's favorite places to eat. You insulted me by lying to me, refused to treat the customer as they should be treated, and made my kid cry on valentine's day...you will never take another dime of my money ever again, no matter how fantastic your food is. I only hope the other locations don't have this most ridiculous asinine rule. read more

1st they sat us down next to a door with a broken window in 100 degree heat. Then they forgot my rice and noodles with my meal. Then the "manager" said sorry and made sure my wife's bowl was good. They forgot for the 2nd time after the noodles ro add the eggs I asked for then I didnt want my bowl. After that my wife packed up to go since I had no food and she found out that she didnt get any noodles she asked for. She asked for no rice just noodles and she recieved all rice no noodles. I've never had this many mistakes before and i will not be returning to this location. Genghis has just lost a valuable customer. I used to come at least 4-5x a month minimum. I've had a very hard time writing this review as I love eating at Genghis Grill. What started out as a routine lunch as always ended up with a volatile manager who tried act as though he was just a regular MOD. Turns out he was the head manager named Ciso, our appetizer never arrived and I asked where it was it went from a simple fix to him being so defensive that I didn't even want to speak with him. When I asked his name he gave it gladly and then asked why. When I explained he said just put MOD instead of his name. I can't do that he made the reopening of this place fail in flames and as an avid traveler and blogger on many sites this man is an embarrassment to the entire business. The way he treated us was absolutely unacceptable and unprofessional. I have been coming to these establishments since they started and this is the worst experience I've ever had. If this is what represents your establishment then you have already failed at any reopening or rebranding for that matter. Bad bosses lead to losing good employees. read more

I decided to visit this location due to me being in town to visit family . We got our food to go and the servers were just rude including the manager once we asked for her. One of the waitress waived my food all over the place ( trashcan by the bar and causing several people to breathe on my food) due to her looking for a lid to place on my to go order. I like this place! Personally, I like the Rockwall location better because it's a little bigger and the service is a little nicer. Like everyone else, I'm not a fan of the new ordering system. I don't get it, and nobody has been able to explain it. That's why 3 stars and not 4-5. They have TONS of options to make a great bowl and I have never been disappointed with my decisions. If you don't like what's in your bowl, it's your own fault because you made it yourself! I'm not picky about what raw food looks like, I just want it to taste good when it's finished. My family loves Genghis Grill so I was thrilled to see a location come into Mesquite. I was even more thrilled when I realized it was at the old Bookstop location that I had worked at for several years. I was very shocked to see that they had only converted about half of that space-I couldn't see how it would be big enough. Turns out I was right-this place is too small considering its popularity. The above being said this location does the chain proud. I mean can you go wrong with all you can eat food put together in exactly the way you want(since you choose all ingredients yourself!) that you know is not cooked until you make your decision? I thought not. If you can get past the wait(about 30 min for us-I guess not too bad) and it being a bit noisy due to the cramped confines this could definitely get a spot in the permanent rotation! read more

My family just goes on and on about this place. They call it the poor man's Kyoto/Benihana. Four of us went for lunch one day and I'm positive that two of us will never be back! Is it the germaphobe in me who thinks its gross to pile on raw meat in a bowl? I don't like looking at raw meat and fish. It grosses me out being all close to it and having to touch the tongs to serve myself. I don't like the smell either. I just made my last visit at Genghis Grill. I think the company became stingy with prices and rewards. I come in all the time, and I've never received points because the staff refuses to issue me a card. So now, I'm not able to utilize a reward for a free Birthday bowl which also changed because I apparently have to make a certain amount of visits to get the bowl while the bowl was free regardless on birthdays in the past. The menu changes too often, so when I find something that I like, it usually goes away really soon. Didn't notice the smell, the girl that greeted us was very nice. This was the first visit and probably last to this chain. All the meat sitting out worries me....how well are they keeping it at the right temp? Then you put the veggies on top of the meat, so those tongs are touching meats. I know it all gets cooked but maybe I don't want tongs that have touched certain meats to touch my food? And can you say MUSHY? Everything is cooked together....my pea pods were split open and mushy. The fresh food was great. Stir fry is brought out fast, you choose your ingredients, sauces, spices and toppings. It was grilled expertly with a quickness and brought to the table. The desserts were amazing!!! Get the crispy wonton sundae!!! With buttercream filling it melts in your mouth when you bite it!!! The missing star is for one of our drinks. I don't eat here much but when I do it's not too bad. On today's visit a found dead fruit flies in the raw chicken when picking my protein. I told the MOD and she did not seem to care too much but did replaced the chicken. So when I did sit down and began to eat, I had to kill 3 flying fruit flies. We were in Dallas for a wedding and our hotel manager recommended this restaurant to us. I was skeptical of going to a mongolian bbq in Texas, but I was deeply satisfied. They have alot of sauces, spices, meats and ingredients to pick from which was quite overwhelming. I stuck with "spicy" sauces and it came out sooo good! If you have never gone to a mongolian bbq, just know that you will want to overstack your bowl because it will shrink when it is cooked. It came with your choice of white or brown rice or noodles. I ordered white rice and my husband ordered the noodles. He flavored his bowl with BBQ sauce...it didn't come out so good. Thats the thing, you can't blame anyone but yourself if it sucks. Bad experience visiting this location. First of all the hostess was not polite when my family and I entered. She acted as if she did not want to be there. Thank goodness we were put in a section with a friendly waitress. After waiting a while for our appetizer, we asked the waitress to check on them since they appeared to be burnt when looking over at the grill. Shortly after, I hear the cook hollering out "well either they want them or they don't" "they're wasting my time" There was a verbal confrontation when I walked over to the grill, I was nowhere near his personal space but he kept saying "you better back up fam" shortly after the situation was calmed by employees the cook was still making remarks towards US...the CUSTOMERS. After speaking to a manager, the appetizers were removed from our check. She asked if we would like any further discounts she would make that happen. Nice offer but there was no need.. The cook was taken to the back and seemed calm once he got back to work. I have been to this location on several occasions and have gotten poor service each time. My chicken wasn't fully cooked and neither were my veggies. Took forever to get drinks refilled And literally had to get up and ask for everything we needed . She asked if I could wait on hold for a minute and 22 MINUTES LATER without hearing from her I hung up and called back to a busy line that wouldn't ring. I've been calling for 15 minutes and the phone line is still busy... 40 minutes of driving, 22 minutes on hold and 15 minutes of calling a busy phone line make my first ghengis grill experience in years a perfect reason to never go back. Waitress' patience and kindness is only reason given a 1-rating but also no option to give a 0-rating. This location is the worst!!! I have been to several Genghis locations in the DFW area within last 7 years. When I walked in with my 2 sons the greeting was not welcoming AT ALL and we were seated at a table that had food all under floor seating as well as on chair and booth seat. Asked that it be cleaned and greeter came back & wiped down table. I advised table was already clean and not my issue. Asked that seats and floor be cleaned before we even sit down. Simple communication but greeter's persona was less than pleased. Should l just have walked out? I think so!!! Should have!!! Here's why... How did they get my order wrong??!! I'M DONE!!! Only giving one star because I have to to post a review. Used to love this place. Great food, great concept, usually great service but now they have none of that. Went in with my mom yesterday and was so excited about it until we walked in and first off had to wait like 5 minutes to be seated even though there were several employees just standing around doing nothing. Then deonte was our server and was absolutely horrible. He brought us our drinks and my bowl but nothing else. Never even came to the table again until it was time to take our money. He never brought my mom her bowl. I had to get it for her. He never brought us the pot stickers my mom asked for. He never asked how the food was so I didn't get a chance to complain about how burned the veggies were. I wanted dessert too but of course was never given the opportunity to ask. When he finally brought us our ticket and I complained about all of this he just said that they were understaffed and busy. It was not that busy and we saw him taking his time bussing tables, spending way too much time at other tables, and just generally moving way too slow if he was really so swamped with "how busy it was". I've been a server at several different restaurants including one with a similar set up as Ghengis. So his lame excuse does not fly with me because I know how to handle a rush which is not even what they had yesterday. I mean they can only even use half their tables as it is so it definitely was not that busy or difficult. Also when we were complaining about his service he told us we didn't even have to tip. As if that was actually going to happen. As a former server, I usually tip well and encourage others to do the same BUT tipping is the customer paying the server to do a job. He did NOT do his job whatsoever yesterday so obviously he wasn't getting paid for something he didn't do or even attempt to do. I used to love ghengis but we will not be going back to this location. The waiter/waitress very slow, the restaurant it self very small, and its almost impossible to find a parking spot in the cramped parking lot.
