Excellent "Ginger Infused Salad"- (with or without meat.) Lightly sweet
    Amigo K.

Tuesday Afternoon is a great song by the Moody Blues! I was in a hungry mood this Tuesday, and it was after noon... Kuong Thai lunch crowd was gone, I had the place to myself. Never mind the exterior, the interior is calm & demure with 60 seats at small tables. Tables can be setup for big parties. 5 counter height chairs. Very clean, not fussy, some calm instrumental music in the background. Menu is very easy to peruse if you are not set on a dish. The "Ginger Infused Salad" is a joy to graze upon! Lightly sweet, subtle ginger flavor, all the greens are fresh, with a topping of easy to chew light crispy noodle. Add meat to this to make it your meal! Had to dab my finger in the dressing at the end LOL I chose earthy Mussaman Curry for a less citrus spice. This was very, very good. I splurged on ice cream macaron by "Purpose" from the company freezer display. A pink Guava ice cream macaron with light sweetness and slight tart bite, yum! Young Thai, still here, and still fresh & tasty!

Green curry was extremely watered down/oily. I was expecting a flavorful and thicker liquid/curry base this was not ok. Flavor lacking and felt like I was eating oil

An unassuming restaurant that serves very good Thai food with service that will impress everyone. The portion size of the entrees are generous and can be shared. The appetizer platter was an easy choice if you are in the mood to try a lil bit of everything. The menu has the standard food choices but the amazing curry was something that stood out. If you like peanut based curries, do give this a try. The ambiance of the restaurant with its oriental decor makes it quite charming. Parking is easily available. The restaurant stays busy and it looks like they have a loyal customer base. Not surprising given that the food and service are clear winners. Mango with sticky rice is a must try - if mangoes are in season. The owner will let you know if the mangoes are fresh. Pricing : Moderate Will I return? : Yes, if I am back in the area.

Spring rolls with one shrimp cut in four pieces. Shrimp was noticeably foul tasting and smelling. Not edible.

Went for a late lunch, craving curry and Rumdoul in Rowlett didn't open til 5. Had been here a couple years ago and was pretty good. Got their "fresh" spring rolls. NOT fresh. The 2 rolls had a slice of a piece of shrimp. Noticeably foul tasting and smelling. That's how I figured out the shrimp was quartered. Tasted so weird I smelled it and then removed it from the roll. It was slimy and smelled disgusting. I told the waitress, before I paid, to let the kitchen know the shrimp was bad. The waitress smelled it as well and agreed it was bad. Told me they served it thru lunch and no one complained. Well that's great but you just smelled the foul shrimp and that was the wrong response. She didn't remove it from the check which was incredible to me. The curry I was craving was the worst I've ever eaten. I have eaten here before and the food was fresh and prepared well. Not so today. I don't know what's changed here, but the food quality is gone. The curry was VERY thick, paste like. The dish came with broccoli and I paid extra for veggies. A couple pieces of carrot was all that appeared to be added. Worst meal I've had in quite a while. I won't be returning and can't recommend.

    Tom Kha soup

I have always loved coming here with my family when I am in Rockwall and when I lived there. The Tom kha soup is the absolute BEST I have ever had! I have tried it at other places and nothing compares. We tried the cheese and curry rangoons as an appetizer and they were also so freaking delicious! The service is always spectacular! They take really good care of us. Lunch wasn't busy at all today, but I know for sure that there is typically a crowd for dinner.

Not too bad and not too expensive. Try the egg rolls if you can. Or try one of.the proteins such as Mongolian beef.

I started with the garlic edamame, Kani salad, and gyoza. The gyoza are pan fried perfectly! Some places fry them too hard or deep fry them. The kani salad is a mix of shredded cucumber, spicy crab mix with spicy mayo, and roe. I ordered the Angry Dragon roll and the Rockwall roll. The Rockwall roll is sweet with coconut shrimp wrapped, topped with spicy crab mix and coconut sauce. It's delicious! The atmosphere is very nice and intimate. Darker in the dining room with table lamps. You're not looking around the room at everyone, but more focused on just your party. I will definitely be returning to Basil Cafe more often! Can't wait to try more sushi! Thanks again Annika for a great experience!

Overall, the food was solid with a few standout items. The spicy tuna roll was excellent -- fresh, flavorful, and easily the highlight of the meal. The ramen was also quite good and comforting. The hibachi steak, however, was a bit of a surprise. The steak was cooked exactly to the temperature I requested, but it (along with the vegetables) arrived slightly cold, which took away from the experience. The fried rice also lacked a bit of seasoning and could have used a little more flavor. While this wasn't a bad dining experience by any means, I'm still on the search for that standout spot in the area that truly checks all the boxes. That said, there are definitely some dishes here worth coming back for.
