    Poke bowl

I've been at Purdue for five years and this is my favorite poke place in West Lafayette. Way better than the other place north of campus, they give you so much fish and the toppings are so fresh

Decent poke for Indiana standards. Fish doesn't always taste that fresh, but portions and price are reasonable. I love the spicy mayo sauce with the ahi tuna and salmon. The tempura crisps are also nice. They give a decent amount of fish and the poke to rice ratio is good! Great place to stop by to fulfill your poke cravings. Obviously you can't have high standards because this is Indiana we are talking about, but decent poke. In California, this would probably be 2 stars. But beggars can't be choosers, so this is 4 stars in West Lafayette, Indiana.

A nice stop for a fresh poke bowl, dumplings, or hibachi. It's a super cute place with tasty ingredients, but there are 2 reasonable issues for me here: 1. This is just a small obstacle for me that I'm sure is fine for others. They list ingredients for a build-your-own poke bowl, but I'm not super familiar with all of them so I don't really know how to choose flavors that work together. It would be super helpful if they offered "combo" meals with pre-planned poke bowls that take the guess work out of them. 2. I cringed a little when they told me the forks were sitting out on the counter for us to grab ourselves. They have a counter with self-serve soy sauce, trays, napkins, water, and plastic forks. The forks are unwrapped and facing with the tongs up so anytime you take a fork, it is inevitable that your hand brushes some of the other fork prongs... like the part that goes in your food and mouth may have been touched by strangers. This would gross me out even pre-COVID. Super unsanitary. However, if you want a fast option for fresh Asian flavor and you don't require a fork, I would recommend this place. (They do offer wrapped chop sticks, but I'm not super savvy using those with rice.) Also, they have a sign up indicating that masks are required, but the girl serving the food didn't put hers on until we walked in. Is it required or not the? Hmm.

I love this place! It's such a treat for me on campus. It's a bit expensive but I really enjoy it. I think that the small wouldn't be too filling as a meal so I always get the medium with 3 proteins. You get to pick out your veggies, proteins, and sauces. I really like the poke salmon, spicy crab, shrimp, and spicy salmon. It's especially nice when it's warm out becuase there's some picnic tables almost right outside. There's also indoor seating. The service is good and the food is great!

Great food, service, and environment. It's a small place but the inside is very inviting. I came in close to closing time but the server gave me great service and recommendations. I did get a poke bowl and it was pretty good. I felt like there were limited options than what I'm use to going to a poke place. Nonetheless it did taste pretty good. I'll recommend it. Next time I'll try the hibachi.

Tofu hibachi says $10.99 on the menu posted above, but i$11.99 on the digital screen. Very misleading.

The first menu you see over the register says tofu hibachi is $10.99. So, we look. We order. Then, as we are leaving with our food, I notice my receipt says we paid $11.99 for it. I go to ask why I was charged more and I then notice that there is a digital screen tucked behind the counter with different prices. This is highly misleading. They just shrug it off and say that first menu you see above the register is old. Not cool. Also, they say they don't have any kind of hot sauce packets or sirracha for my to go order. What kind of Asian restaurant doesn't have hot sauce or sirracha?? Food was average with mediocre serving size. Nothing special. 3 stars.

Located near the Chauncey mall area. Decided to check it out on a lunch break with a coworker. The space decoration of the restaurant is super inviting. However due to covid restrictions they are only taking take out orders. I ordered a medium size bowl which came with 4 proteins. It was plenty of food & even had leftovers. The spicy salmon was definitely my favorite. Check them out !

I love poke! And I really appreciate that this restaurant opened at 10 a.m. so that I could grab a bite to eat at 10:30 without having to kill time waiting around. I have had poke at several places around Indy, so I was pleasantly surprised when the regular size bowl was about 2 cups instead of the massive bowls I've had elsewhere. I had a lot of things to do and didn't need to feel stuffed! I didn't see any "pre-conceived" options on the menu board behind the counter, so I just followed the order and direction from the server on building my bowl. Size then rice type (brown) were followed by protein choice (Ahi Tuna). After that, they have a no limit choice of add ins and some that were an additional $.50 per selection (avocado and pineapple). You also get a choice of sauce (Eel) and a couple toppers (lobster salad and shrimp). I declined adding more toppers since by bowl was already overflowing. The only negative I see is that when the bowl is filled, it is hard to stir it all up to get a blending of flavors until some of the bowl is consumed. I also don't know why there have been so many comments about the expense. If you want fresh food, hand prepared, it will cost more than a burger joint. And frankly, I found the regular size perfectly fine for lunch (and I had just walked four miles followed by another six that afternoon.) I really enjoyed my meal and highly recommend it to anyone who wants a healthy and fresh alternative for lunch. Review #1134

A solid spot for poke! The service was fast and nice and I feel like I got exactly what i would expect. The spicy tuna was a bit too spicy for me (needed to drink milk) so I think next time I'm going to go for ahi tuna instead. Very clean restaurant and very good about social distancing

I was at Purdue for a conference, and stopped in for a quick weekday lunch at Poke Hibachi. The service is indeed quick -- fast casual, order at the counter style. It's very small inside, so you may not find seating if they're busy. My friend and I split a large poke bowl (around $13 including tax and a 50 cent up-charge for adding avocado), and it was enough food for a decent meal for two people, which was a great value. They sell hibachi (cooked proteins -- mostly meat or fish -- with veggies and rice), as well. You can choose from a variety of raw and cooked seafood proteins, and there's a tofu option for vegans/vegetarians. The food was fresh and tasted good -- standard tasty poke bowl fare, with lots of good options for sauces and toppings. The portion was almost too generous for the size of the bowl I had -- I asked for a mix of brown rice and greens as a base, and was given so many greens that the bowl was basically impossible to mix: you need to eat all the good toppings off first, and are then left with plain rice and lettuce at the bottom. I'm not complaining about big portions; it was very generous. But it might be better in a larger bowl. Speaking of bowls: there's no recycling container (at least as far as I could see), in spite of the fact that all of the bowls used are plastic and presumably recyclable. Bonus, though: the chopsticks are smooth and rounded, unlike the rough-edged, stuck together wooden chopsticks most places have. No splinters here!

I love love poke! I like that you can choose whatever toppings you like, but I really think it's a hit or miss with which employee you get and how large your portion will be. Some of the ingredients don't taste as fresh, such as the vegetables or even tuna/salmon, so that's why I give it three stars instead. It's not terrible, but it's not the best I've had! It definitely fulfills my poke cravings!

Unfortunately, my most recent experience was not as positive, and I found myself disappointed--though not due to any major issues. When I arrived at 11 a.m., right as the restaurant opened, there seemed to be adequate staff and they certainly weren't too busy to pay attention to the two tables dining at the time. I have no issue with staff taking a moment to chat, but I wish they had focused a little more on the guests who were dining. We ordered green tea, which is served in a metal teapot. The protocol is that if one person orders it, they receive the teapot, and if two people order it, they get one teapot to share. However, what surprised me was that despite finishing our tea, no one came by to offer us a refill. It would have been nice for someone to ask if we wanted more, especially given that we had finished the first pot. I also ordered the vegetable udon, hoping for a flavorful dish filled with fresh vegetables. Sadly, when it arrived, it lacked any vegetables and was quite bland. The overall taste was underwhelming, which was disappointing, as I had expected better. I pushed the plate to the side, indicating that I wouldn't be eating it. No one noticed. My plate was hardly touched, and not once did any staff member, including what I presumed to be the manager based on his demeanor, come over to inquire about my meal. He passed by my table at least three times without asking if everything was okay. I would have appreciated the opportunity to provide feedback. While I must say that everything else I tasted, aside from the udon, was delicious, the lack of attention to detail--such as not offering a refill for my tea and not inquiring about my dining experience--left me feeling neglected. It was truly disappointing to leave with an untouched plate and not a single word from the staff addressing my concerns even after we declined the offer container to take home the meal.

We decided on a a variety of dishes. We started with the scallops and steak, accompanied by a side of onion, and later opted for chicken and pork belly. The scallops were good. The steak was equally tasty. As for the onion, it was just an onion, nothing extraordinary. Unfortunately, the chicken didn't quite hit the mark for me, and the pork belly fell flat--it was simply unappetizing. However, the sauces were a highlight of the meal. The staff was more than generous, happily providing extra helpings of my favorites. The soy-based sauce stood out as particularly delicious, enhancing the flavors of our dishes. My husband, on the other hand, couldn't get enough of the hot sauce; he mentioned it was pleasantly flavorful without being overly fiery, making it just right for those who appreciate a touch of spice. We also shared the jalapeño tuna appetizer, which my husband declared to be the best he's ever tasted. While I found them delicious, I hesitated to agree with his exalted claim--there are many worthy contenders in my culinary adventures! The service was excellent, likely due to the lack of other diners. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, making it a lovely local spot to experience dining, especially the cooking your own food. We took our time, enjoying a couple of drinks and soaking in the sights of the street outside, and the approaching storm. All in all, it was a wonderfully leisurely meal, a nice departure from our usual rushed dinners. The restaurant offered a comfortable ambiance, and I would certainly return. While it may not crack my top five favorite dining spots, it's definitely nestled comfortably in the top 25 of restaurants I've enjoyed. This place is perfect for a relaxed date night, allowing you to savor the experience of cooking and enjoying great food at a leisurely pace.
