    Takoyaki
    Skai B.

The broth for the shoyu ramen tasted a bit sweet and the ginger did not compliment the broth at all. There was a small amount of noodles and the bean sprouts filled the noodle from top to bottom. The meat was great however being soft to the touch and falling apart as soon as you touched it redeeming the entire ramen. The spicy edamame was ok and more sweet then spicy. The takoyaki deflated and didnt hold its shape after a while. The ambiance of this resturant was nice retaining a wood old style with a mix of future style. The server was nice but nothing too noteworthy about the service.

They have vegan broth options and the best part is that they can customize your order. We always like to add shrimp in our vegan ramen and they usually agree to it. I love the ambience of this place, and it's right in the heart of the university village. This was my third time at this spot and always enjoy it. Service is fast and excellent!

Stopped by for Ramen while at Purdue. Lucky we were early before the rush around 6:00 pm. This strings is more crowded than the original Chicago Chinatown location. Ordered premium Tonkotsu ramen. This was well worth the added costs. The bowl was bigger than the normal bowl and clams, pork loin, wagyu beef, pork belly were added. However at 6:00 Sunday they were out of pork belly and a few other menu choices. Deep fried Gyoza crisp and served with a sweet pepper sauce. Togarashi spice mix and a hot pepper paste were on the table. The waitress was helpful explaining the menu , pleasant and efficient. Only slip up was no spoons.

The ramen is pretty decent I'd say. The broth is pretty good and rich. I got the Tonkotsu ramen. The service is decent with college students who are pretty nice. I like the pork belly and soft boiled egg, but they only give u one. And u need to pay for each extra, and one piece of pork belly I'd like 6-7 dollars which is my only complaint. Overall great ramen place especially for a college town.

The vibe here is very cool. Lots of wood and and lights. I got the vegetarian ramen and it was spicy and warm. The service is lovely and not overly involved in the conversation.

Decent ramen near the Purdue area. Not a lot of Asian options around but Strings is a nice place to hangout with friends after class. Not the most authentic, but you can't hold it against them since this is West Lafayette, Indiana. I always get the tonkatsu ramen, and the portion is pretty good.

5:30-ish dinner after moving out my Purdue freshman. Restaurant was not crowded when we arrive but more people came to dine-in as well as pickup to-go while we ate. Their actual menu is not what is on their website; lots of items were covered up (unavailable), but Takoyaki (octopus balls) were on their menu but not online. I had seen another yelper say they ordered it so we were hoping it was still available, as it's one of my student's fave foods. We ordered a Tonkatsu Spicy clam & ground pork ramen and a Shoyu Kuro Buta (pig loin) ramen. Both were very flavorful -- my Tonkatsu was more so (more spicy perhaps) that the Tonkatsu at the UIUC ramen restaurant we usually stop at on our trips to Purdue! We also liked how the Takoyaki was 8 small balls instead of fewer big balls -- easier to eat and enjoy the filling, not too much breading. We were both full from our meals. I hope this restaurant stays at Purdue at least through my student's years here.

The first time I came to strings 2 years ago it was life changing. The ramen was so flavorful and I loved the vegetarians gyoza. But when I came here today, the ramen just did not taste the same. It was a little too oily and felt like it was missing something. The spice levels also decreased. The dumpling however were just as good and would come again just for that. I will say tho the decor in the restaurant is really cute and overall a good place for lunch with a friend.

Finally made it here after the recommendation of a Chicago native. The menu is thankfully simple and as soon as you decide if you're going spicy or not, the easier it is to choose your meal. Even the gyoza had a little kick of spice, but they were delicious! I opted for the Kuro Buta Tonkotsu ramen which was great. It felt lighter than other restaurants' versions. It was disappointing that they didn't have four of the different beverage options, so I was left with water, canned/bottled soda or beer. They did kindly recommend the place next door for boba though. I'll probably come back, but anticipate frequenting when students aren't as thick on the ground.

Located in Chauncey Square, this restaurant feels trendy and has a steady flow of people eating here. The ramen came with a large slice of pork belly and half an egg. Noodles were cooked well and broth was flavorful. The bowls seemed on the smaller end so we had to share a rice bowl in addition to our orders of ramen. There's also a Monster Hell Ramen Challenge that if you eat a level 5 ramen bowl including the soup in 20 minutes, you'll get a $50 gift card, free t-shirt, and your bowl of ramen for free! Anyone up for the challenge?

I'm obsessed with the beef don. All of its ingredients are so tasty ! The egg, pickled, ginger, and grilled onions really top it off. The gyoza exceeded my expectations. It was spicy as expected and soy sauce at the bottom executes it. The portions at this restaurant are big and the prices aren't bad.

The ramen is AMAZING. Honestly I think it's among the best I've had. Although the staff is shy, this is a true ramen restaurant. It's a quiet place, but clean and nice for a relaxing afternoon with a friend.

The tsukemen was some of the best ramen I've ever had and not something I've seen done in that style elsewhere. The meats were excellent.

We decided on a a variety of dishes. We started with the scallops and steak, accompanied by a side of onion, and later opted for chicken and pork belly. The scallops were good. The steak was equally tasty. As for the onion, it was just an onion, nothing extraordinary. Unfortunately, the chicken didn't quite hit the mark for me, and the pork belly fell flat--it was simply unappetizing. However, the sauces were a highlight of the meal. The staff was more than generous, happily providing extra helpings of my favorites. The soy-based sauce stood out as particularly delicious, enhancing the flavors of our dishes. My husband, on the other hand, couldn't get enough of the hot sauce; he mentioned it was pleasantly flavorful without being overly fiery, making it just right for those who appreciate a touch of spice. We also shared the jalapeño tuna appetizer, which my husband declared to be the best he's ever tasted. While I found them delicious, I hesitated to agree with his exalted claim--there are many worthy contenders in my culinary adventures! The service was excellent, likely due to the lack of other diners. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, making it a lovely local spot to experience dining, especially the cooking your own food. We took our time, enjoying a couple of drinks and soaking in the sights of the street outside, and the approaching storm. All in all, it was a wonderfully leisurely meal, a nice departure from our usual rushed dinners. The restaurant offered a comfortable ambiance, and I would certainly return. While it may not crack my top five favorite dining spots, it's definitely nestled comfortably in the top 25 of restaurants I've enjoyed. This place is perfect for a relaxed date night, allowing you to savor the experience of cooking and enjoying great food at a leisurely pace.
