Guess this place is used to serving tourists so they do not care if someone comes back. I am not a tourist and will never be back. Ordered a sandwich asking if bread was fresh and was told yes. Then asked for extra avocado ($1) on it and asked if they were generous with it, and again the answer being yes. I had this sandwich to go, because if I had eaten it there, I would have returned it. The bread was so very stale and there was a very thin spread of avocado, so you could not taste it. Terrible place, can not image anyone eating there twice. read more

Of the many people I know who have eaten here, I have never heard of a problem such as Russ e. (12/2/2012) experienced - - but I've had tainted egg products at 5-star hotels so it can certainly happen anywhere. The customer service was friendly, nice and really helpful. As for the food, the chicken soup was awesome. The cup was pretty big and a sandwich. I wonder what a bowl would look like... Perhaps other general stores in the eastern sierra have more panache but I've been to most and Genoa is a crown jewel. Stopped in during Superbowl while activity in town was deadish. The staff recommended mac n chili which made my day. I was also privy to some bomb carrot cake. The food is clearly made with TLC. The staff helped me locate some interesting Genoa landmarks. Their service went beyond the call. I recommend GCS to all. Heard about good times at the side-bar but haven't experienced this function to date. read more

Went in today. Excited to take a drive from Tahoe and get a sandwich for lunch. Went in with mask as ordered by governor and because I care about lives and the economy. No sign on the door saying to wear a mask. A man walks in with kids, stands next to me and says in a loud voice"Do I need a mask?" To which the counter person smiled and said "No" . Called to clarify if that's really their policy and they said it's not our job to "police people". I didn't say pull out a baton. Put a sign on the door that just says masks are required for entry and "Yes" you need a mask so not to endanger other more thoughtful people. Won't be back and know the governors office is using citizens to report businesses in violation of mask requirements. The consequence is a complete shutdown of non compliant businesses which is well deserved. read more

We stopped in to this little store for a quick bite to eat as we were passing through Genoa. What a nice little town. We ordered 5x ham and cheese paninis. They were excellent!! Came out nice and hot. I thought the service was a little slow to be honest but they really aren't setup for a huge crowd coming in at the same time. We probably caught them off guard when our family of 6 walked in looking for lunch. LOL. On our way out we each grabbed a couple of scoops of ice cream. This was excellent. Homemade ice cream that is creamy goodness! I loved it. I definitely recommend this place to anyone stopping into Genoa looking for a bite to eat. They are extremely friendly, the food is great, and the atmosphere is perfect for this small town of Genoa. We will definitely be coming back. read more

The Genoa Country Store is my favorite place to get a sandwich in all of the U.S. Everything is made to order, with fresh ingredients and the staff at this mom and pop business are super friendly. I ALWAYS stop for lunch here when I am in Genoa. I often build my own ham and cheddar sandwich but today had the BLT with cheddar and it was awesome as well! read more

We were headed for this place to have lunch but when we arrived there were 40 motorcycles parked out front or maybe it was 400! So we decided to save that lunch for a future excursion but we did come back later and have some of their wonderful ice cream. It is real ice cream, hand dipped onto a sugar cone and then she will turn it upside down into a cup if you prefer so that it does not fall off of the cone. The serving is huge. First she filled the cone and then topped it with a ball of ice cream that is 3 times the size of a normal cone serving. It costs $3.25 but is well worth the price. Whenever I am in Gardnerville I always cruise over to Genoa and stop by and get a veggie sandwich at the Genoa Country Store. It's a nice break from all the meat I usually eat in Nevada. If you want to have a relaxing lunch in a beautiful setting then you should check this place out. They have a wide variety of options but I'm hooked on their veggie. What a gem this place is. The whole town is worth the trip but sad we missed the museums. They closed in October. The country store has a fantastic deli and a cute gift shop to walk through while you are waiting for sandwiches. The deer walk right into town. We live close so we will be back often. read more

What a nice charming little country store! They have a deli, homemade ice cream, a full bar, and all kinds of knick knacks and souvenirs. They have lots of local food products which is always a cool thing. If you're passing through Genoa make sure you stop off here and it's not too touristy if you go there during the week. read more

Great tasting sandwiches and ice cream, quick service, kid friendly. Stopped there for lunch, party of 5 (three kids) not sure what to expect. There was a table large enough for us inside. Food came in less than 5 min, was great tasting (I loved Reuben #4, my wife loved her "custom" turkey sandwich, and my kids loved their "customized" hotdogs). In the end, the locally made ice cream was delicious and very generous "single scoops". Nice team working there--service-wise and a pleasant conversation afterwards . What an awesome little find! I was prompted to write this review while eating my leftovers (Reuben) from our trip there yesterday. Wonderful staff, two young men who were very friendly. Fast service and excellent sandwiches!! Breakfast served all day, too. The store also sells beer, wine, toiletries, you know, the essentials.. they also have candy that I ate as a child in the early nineties, dots, little plastic sour juice bottles, zebra rainbow gum, etc. just overall a really neat store with excellent food and service. Oh and did I mention they have ice cream, too! Mint chocolate chip, for the win... will definitely be back next time we're in genoa searching for eagles and other birds of prey.. read more

I passed through Genoa yesterday with a friend who wanted a cup of coffee. I was hungry for breakfast, and it was too early for the Pink House. We stopped in the Genoa Country Store, where my friend got a delicious cup of coffee (she is very particular about her coffee!) and we split a breakfast burrito and a giant cinnamon roll. The young lady and young man who served us were friendly, helpful, and cheerful. The breakfast burrito was the best one I've ever had! We were both delighted with both the food and the service. We will definitely be going back. Also the store is filled with unique gift items, and a wonderful little gift shop is right next door! read more

We stopped here for sandwiches after a day at the hot springs nearby on someone's recommendation and they were awesome. I have a thing for Reubens - a sandwich filled with stuff that by itself, I hate, but all together, is serious warm delicious goodness. Everything was insanely fresh and toasted to perfection. My friend had a plain old turkey sandwich on sourdough and the lettuce was crisp, colorful and also tasty. If you are bumming around Genoa, which is not very large, I would recommend sitting on the porch for lunch. I wouldn't, however, drive here all the way just to eat. read more

First time trip here and the lady working behind the counter didn't want to do anything. She acted busy but was just wandering around. And I'm sorry, $5 for a hot dog? $7 for a plain burger? $6 for a brat? If you're going to charge that much it better be gourmet. Have eaten there before and food was good. Ate there yesterday and friend got horrible food poisoning with in about three hours from egg salad and tuna salad mix. Called next morning to advise them of possible risk and they got hostile on the phone with me saying that it could not have been their problem. Was in the Minden area and wanted to see something off the main highway. Rode to Genoa and the Country Store and got more than I expected. Beautiful town and Country Store. Went inside and ordered one of the best tuna sandwiches ever. Even better were the two persons working there. They were 100% customer oriented, something I don't see much of. Hard to believe no one's had anything to say about Genoa's hub business in more than 18 months! It's changed a lot since then, becoming a family operation once again, and it shows. Derrick and Kiersten (along with baby Carmine) took over the place last fall and revived the weekly Wednesday dinners, which give locals a chance to get together and catch up over an affordable meal, and offer passers-by a great value too. Derrick's Mom and Kiersten's Mom and Dad help out behind the counter, so it's truly a Mom and Pop experience! It's been largely stripped of tourist fripperies and is all about friendly service and supplying things everyone needs at decent prices. That's great news. read more
