Small barbershop located in South Austin. I've only been here twice but both experienced were not the best. I had to book online and choose my barber, type of cut and a time. Well my first visit my barber never showed up, I waited over an hour til a random barber came in to service me. It can be a bit frustrating when time is an issue and I had tons of errands that day....2nd time, again booked a time and the barber actually did show up...30min later. He did to a great job which made the experience a bit better but still they need to be more professional and sort this timing issue out. We drive an hour to come get my son's hair cut by Jalen. He always does such a great job and it's so worth the drive! We're not great at explaining what he wants but Jalen always works with whatever info my kid gives him and turns out a super sharp haircut. The haircutting was fine. But if you are looking for a place that takes COVID-19 precautions seriously, this is not the place. They had multiple workers come in and out without masks. I didn't think much of it at 1st because they were drinking water. I thought surely when they were done masks would go back on. But as time went on one of the workers ate, drank water, talked on the phone on speaker all without a mask on. When I said something about it, I was made to feel ridiculous for bringing up. Their excuse was no one has gotten COVID at their shop. No one apologized or put a mask on. I couldn't leave with my son's hair half done. It was very stressful. As I waited, obviously stressed, one of the workers kept talking about how people want to be able to control things but you can't control COVID to another customer. Basically, an it is what it is situation. It was very upsetting. If you are looking for a SAFE place to get a haircut, DO NOT BOOK HERE. They have a sign on the door that says masks are required but they don't enforce it at all. If you don't like masks and don't believe that COVID is something important to help prevent, then this is the place for you. read more

Jalen gave me a haircut yesterday and I have to say, probably one if not the best cut I've gotten in Austin, he has an eye for hair and when he asked me what I was looking for and I did the typical guy thing of being a bit nebulous, I asked for something more extreme, his skills and knowledge paid off because he showed me what he thought would look good and, well... all I can say is trust the professional. He has a new regular customer now. It helps that he's about as nice as it comes and is an easy barber to have a great conversation with. read more

So glad I found this talented group of barbers! I conveniently booked online, and was able to get my son in that day. My son had an appointment with Saul. My child has extremely thick and course hair, I'm not sure he's ever had a great haircut. Saul took his time, and has my little man lookin fresh to death! I'm amazed with his talent. I also watched them accommodate many walk-ins, close to the closing hour. While in the waiting room, I witnessed all the barbers providing a top notch service, with sincere attention to each detail. I sent my 17 year old to this barber shop for a hair cut and they cut into his skin. I see blood, and a scab across his hairline! The fade and hairline is messed up beyond correction. My son is a minor and he told the man his cut was messed up. He is 17 years old so he paid them their cost anyways which is $30.00 and I want our money back! I tried to call but no answer and because I just had surgery a couple days ago I cannot get out of bed to address this in person. My review is a little late but I had to take the time to give them a great review. I am from California and was visiting Austin for a wedding. Due to a busy schedule I was not able to get a hair cut in time for the wedding. I knew I needed a hair cut, but was in a new city (first trip to Austin) and did not have any recommendations for a barber. I have been going to the same barber since I was 4 years old here in California so deviating from that was actually a tough decision. I took a risk and yelped some places near my hotel and went for a hair cut. South Austin Barber Shop had the most reviews, and the best ones. Furthermore, my uber driver even told me this was a good place so I would be fine. I didn't have an appointment but the waiting time was not that bad. I waited for around 35 minutes. I got a simple 1.5 to 2 fade on the sides/back and then a half an inch trim on the top. The barber I was assigned to was very understanding that this was my first time and said they will take good care of me. My barber did a great job cutting my hair. He was very attentive and made sure it looked good. I also really liked the atmosphere in the barbershop, all the guys have a great personalities along with playing good music. If you are in a new city and need to get a hair cut, I strongly recommend this barbershop. If you tell them what you like then they will cut your hair the right way. read more

Picked this place based of reviews when I was visiting Austin for the month.... Needed a cut and a beard trim and booked randomly and got Zeus! I'm very particular about my cut and even more so about my beard because I have sensitive skin. Zeus was on the money! He listened to what I wanted and took note of my sensitive neck when taking care of my beard! Perfect hair cut, great beard trim and good service! I started taking my 12 year old son here about 8 months ago (13 now), after Birds and Visible changes. Hands down the most amazing place ever! Antonio cuts my sons hair and is so amazing! He takes his time and literally perfects every single inch of Jaydon hair. It's a tiny place but exactly what a barber shop should feel like! They make me feel right at home each time, offering their break room for me to sit and watch TV or in an empty chair. Every single guy in this place is phenomenal. Updated Review: This morning I got a call from Tom the owner of the shop. He was very understanding and upset that I didn't have great experience. He offered to pay for the full cut and try any of his barbers. I give honest reviews. This is some damn good customer service. Kiko said he's sorry and won't happen again. I'll probably be back and give them another shot. Positive: great space and good atmosphere. There's a lot of guys who seemed like they knew what they were doin. Negative: I had Kiko, I asked for a mid drop fade. My man screwed the drop so bad I'm considering cutting it myself. He was cutting good until his girl called him. As soon as that happened he just tried to rush through. He didn't shape my beard or my eyebrows like I had asked. And when I got home I legit had to get beard trimmers out and tried to finish what I spent $40 on. Moral of the story: I might be back but not with Kiko. When you go to a shop and spend money you definitely want to feel fresh when you walk out, Tom said that this was one time thing and that I'll feel that if I do come back. read more

I got there waited for almost 2 hrs . I ask for a haircut and to trim my beard and they told me that they didn't have time to trim my beard because i was a walk in. I was like whatever , i let it go. I had a bad experience at this place. I showed up to meet with my barber on my second visit, he had done a good job the first time I came in for a hair cut, and he was not there. I ended up getting a haircut as a walk in. I got the "new guy". He was attentive and polite and cut my hair the way I asked. After a shower I could see it was uneven and had parts sticking out. I looked sloppy. I called and got no response. Went the next day and it was closed. I was frustrated! I had job interviews coming up and payed more than what I normally pay so I could look good for them. WHY THE FIVE STARS? After looking at the reviews on Google I saw only one bad review. Below it was a message by Tom (the owner) asking the guy to get in touch with him. I called again and got the answering machine and it said "if you would like to contact us e-mails is at..." so I did. Tom responded to my e-mail in two minutes. He asked me if he could call me and I agreed. I told him what went on and that I could not come in before 7 when they closed. He said to go ahead and come in, his son would see me and wait for me. I got there and Matt took really good care of me. He told me that the shop had been his Grandfather's. He took his time even tho the shop was technically closed. It was close to 8:30 when he was done. He said how he hoped to own it some day. In the middle of the haircut his father Tom called to see if I had made it in. I remember looking in the mirror before he started the haircut and not feeling to great about how I looked. I looked tired felt sloppy. By the time he was done I felt fresh and clean. Now after my shower I feel more confident about my interviews this week. As I type this my girl friend is rubbing hair hand agains the fresh fade. Thanks guys!
