I have had birds for a huge part of my life so i know what things look like when a bird is in a bad home. First, this man has all his cockatiels and conures in budgie-sized travel cages where they can barely turn around. It was also incredibly hot one of the days I've seen him out and the birds had absolutely no water. All of the birds were also panting which is an indication of over heated and/or overstimulated. All of the birds were in rough shape. Their tails were messed up and some looked very sluggish. This man only has his birds because they make him money. He has absolutely zero care about the birds' wellbeing. They make him money and that's it. Honestly, animal rescue needs to take them away from him and give them better homes. I thought taking pics with tropical parrots was only Hawaii?? You can now go to the Monterey Wharf, find the man with the colorful parrots and he will put them on your shoulder, hand and even your head. The parrots are well trained and will sit there. The man is very rude. He was nice to me but observed him yell at a woman when she said she was not comfortable having her daughter(who was in a stroller) to pet his cockatoo. As a bird lover and owner I am very sad to see his birds. I pet the cockatoo because they looked like they needed love. All of them have very bad plucking(happy birds who are treated well don't do this) and the cages had not been cleaned in a while. Very sad birds. People were right about this person. I didn't see these reviews prior to seeing George. He was and is very rude when I asked if I may say hello to his cockatoo. I asked if the bird was a he or she and he replied with a grumpy "she". At this point I didn't want to ask him any more questions and it appears he's only nice to the locals or people he knows. If he's looking for donation or tips, it isn't coming from me. His birds were very nice though. Hence the 2 stars. read more

From the very beginning after asking if I can hold a bird he responds "what do you want?" And asked the same thing "can I hold a bird to take a picture?" He answered, "yeah which one do you want?" In an aggressive/grumpy tone. And I say the big blue one. Out of nowhere I feel his hand gripping my right wrist very hard and while still holding my wrist very hard he presumes to move me to turn me so I can take a picture. If I hadn't moved it's possible he would of broken something. I wasnt sure exactly were he wanted me moved. He just grabbed me and pulled me. I didn't scream or say anything for fear of causing something, but I know now I should have yelled or said that I was in a lot of pain. At the same time I was mostly shocked and personally scared of what just happened and I just kind of froze. He then puts the large blue macaw bird on the arm he hurt, so it was kind of hard to keep my arm lifted and the bird was slightly heavy for me because Gorge's grab did make my wrist weaker. After the picture, I was finally able to process what just happened and that possibly went unnoticed by most of the public eye at Monterey's Fisherman Wharf. Especially because when it happened I was mostly facing him. I'm not sure if anybody else noticed. After the picture (which I don't look happy in any of them because of what he did) was taken I still felt Gorge's fingers grabbing my arm even though he wasn't anymore and part of my skin still felt somewhat tender when I would touch the area he grabbed me from. I was still able to move my wrist and all but it was just when I would touch the area that hurt and I was still able to feel it for the rest of the day. He didn't really leave a noticeable mark. Atleast the thin sweater I had aided with a bit of cushion because of his fingers digging into my skin so maybe that helped not leave a noticable mark. He may seem like an old man, but this man isn't weak. He has alot more strength than I have by the way he grabbed my arm. Everyone in these reviews agree he comes across as aggressive, but my experience was much more than just aggression. . . Update: Now some of you may be skeptical because it's possible you didn't experience the same thing with them, whatever the situation is... I don't know. Having an online review is always questioned, so you can always choose to believe it or not. I was just in shock and frozen during the time I had the bird on my hand and had the picture taken and hope for those that do see the birds to be careful with this man. I wish I could leave a 0 star review and shut this "business" down. The man who was working was very aggressive and rude towards passerbyers. He was yelling at children and their parents. On top of his rude behavior, his birds were clearly neglected and not well taken care of. The cages were old and rusty and they were way too small for the birds inside. He even had a makeshift cage out of a milk carton. He doesn't have any food or water out for the birds--I wonder how long they go without eating and drinking. It really is a sad sight to see. One of his birds had plucked its feathers so bad that a man asked George about it. George replied with "Oh she just does that, nobody know why". If you are not familiar with birds, plucking feathers is not a natural behavior and only occurs when the bird is stressed out and not well taken care of. I am extremely unhappy with this man and his behavior and the way he treats his birds. He should not be allowed to own birds anymore. I want him shut down!! read more

This guy is racist. We went there twice. Once when my son was 1. He completely ignored us even though we were waiting for a while. At last I asked him to give my son a bird. I even pointed out the bird my son wanted. But he ignored my son's wishes and reluctantly gave us a random bird. The second time my son was almost 2. It wasn't as crowded. At one point we were the only family standing. He again ignored us. My son actually went closer to him and pointed at a bird. He took the bird, went right past my son and gave it to a white kid behind my son. After this, I pulled my son away from him. read more

I saw his stand at the warf and was horrified. All birds have some plucking (from being unhappy and stressed) and some are completely featherless on their bodies. One fell to the ground and he roughly picked it up and yelled to 'stay up there' to the bird on the perch. These animals are clearly being exploited for money and are not being taken care of. Horrific, especially given the Bay area's dedication to animal conservation and care. Avoid him at all cost, and I hope the animals are rescued so they can again be feathered and happy. read more

Don't mess with George. dude is pretty mean. But I love his birds and I go to see them every time I'm there. He's always rude but he's old and he loves those bird. He's had both my children hold them. 6 years and 6 months. I about died when he put the bird on my baby but he was right, the bird was a sweetie and even kissed my sons fingers. I also feel like he may have helped my daughter with her fear of birds. All and all brave George, the birds and experience is worth it. read more

George's Bird's are acclimated to the Monterey Peninsula and they have been in and are his family this is what they do. From what I know he and his bird family are very close and very happy he takes well care of them and they Love him xooxxox Two breeds of wild parakeet can be found on the monterey peninsula. Shocking as it may seem the peninsula is home to hundreds of parrots. Although no one seems sure how they actually ended up on the peninsula, Birds of a feather flock together. All the runaways and escapeeees seem to enjoy the peninsula. Yes George is grummpy and sometimes short, You would be to if you walked in his shoes. Yet he is kind and easy going and takes his time with those who show him the same. You just have to find his fuzzy spot also put some $$$$ in his basket if you really want a good show :) Remember the Monkey Grinder on the warf he also was very criticized. Very few people even see his basket for donations.
