We stopped here when our GPS took us on an unfamiliar route on our road trip across the Midwest. I was glad for the diversion and glad for George's since we all needed to get out of the car and eat something after a seven hour drive. My husband and I were both surprised by the extensive menu, generous portions, and affordable prices. We enjoyed the lentil sausage soup, Three Little Pigs sandwich, Greek omelette, and the other fare our children ordered. A lot of things were fairly salty, and we didn't see much of the waitstaff, but the decor was nice, the bathrooms were clean, and the food hit the spot. We were there on Saturday to visit a family member and invited him to dinner at this restaurant. The staff was friendly, but my order was done incorrectly for starters. I had asked for plain penne pasta with a plain chicken breast on the side. Originally both came with sauce. I didn't send the chicken breast back because I didn't want to create more issues. But I did get the plain penne eventually, but it was mushy. Couldn't even finish it. I did take it to go just to be kind, but we threw it away. My family member ordered the salmon and he gave it a 7/10 but he did not touch the vegetables that came with it. My boyfriend ordered the shrimp Alfredo and said it was a 2/10. Ended up being quite sick that evening and we think it was bad shrimp. Spent about $63 and I did tip my normal generous amount as it is not necessarily the wait staff's fault that the food just isn't that good. read more

I've been going to George's for years and I love their food love their soup. The people are always very friendly and nice. We don't get out there as often as we would like as now they close by 9 PM. I like when they were open late or open 24 hours. It was a great place to go and it was always busy late at night. I will continue to go to Georges, but they open late again then we'll be able to visit more frequently. Go check out the many dishes that they have. We were sick and wanted chicken noodle soup. I ordered a quart of soup on DoorDash. It cost $16. When I received the soup, it was greasy broth no noodles, and I found three little bones in the soup. I have gotten George's a number of times for carry out, and it's okay... this last time I dined in (see photo), and food was okay, but very bland. My friend ordered meatloaf with veggies and mashed potatoes and was very disappointed- the veggies were barely cooked and everything was bland. Everything we ordered was actually delicious and cooked to perfection, if we lived in the area we'd be here all the time. Avoid at all cost! My family of 4 ate here tonight and it was the worst service and food. I had to go up to the counter to ask for a coffee refill. The manager was sitting at the counter on her phone the entire time. The french toast was burnt and eggs were cooked incorrectly, the rest of the food was cold. When my husband went up to pay they gave him incorrect change back and then the girl said, "oh sorry, I already gave it to your server". I found the staff to be friendly, young but friendly and efficient for the most part. I had the Spring Pasta, was suppose to come with shrimp (extra to order) but server didn't order. She did see red things (haha) and made sure they weren't tomatoes, as I requested no tomatoes. They have sweet tea. I had a salad too. Salad was typical, tea was good. Pasta was good and I would order again. More than enough food. Have huge selection of food on menu. I did see a waitress talking with someone who appeared local BUT my server also treated me as a local/regular. Only reason for 4* was she forgot the shrimp. Everything else would have gotten a 5. And be prepared for some angry eyes from those regulars if you dare to ask for a drink refill or something. Once your food actually comes it's about a 50/50 shot on if it will be cold or hot. My food was hot, my friends was cold. I can say the food I had was okay. Tasted fine, nothing special. Presentation left a lot to be desired but I'm not there to look I'm there to eat so this didn't bother ME personally. But the whole time I just got a vibe like I was unwelcome there. Visited for the first time on 11/11/18 and had brunch. The server was pretty friendly and there were LOTS of items to select from the menu. They were pretty busy so the wait for food might have been longer than usual. I would recommend this restaurant specifically for families with children. We live a good breakfast on Sunday mornings. How disappointed we were with these breakfasts. We had Nadia and she was ticked off and treated us like we were obnoxious people. Usually I make friends with the waitress and this person was like the snow blowing full blast. I can handle rude wait staff but when they bring crappy food, that makes it worse. I had a simple cheddar omelette (which she tried to make American cheese) and asked for pancakes to go. Husband had skillet breakfast and pancakes on side. She dropped off the food and came back once to say his pancakes were coming and mine would be to go. We didn't see her until she brought the check. She said "you don't want the pancakes now, do you". Wth? No I said and want the cost removed off the bill. Wow! She was so ticked off. She came back and said "she took off 10% senior" and left. First started going to georges in 2004. The food was excellent. However, until a few years ago it really got bad. It was not from co-vid. We stopped going until today (3/2/2013). The food was terrible. My food and my girlfriends food were cold. They took it back and brought it back warm. Not every good. This was the first time visiting George's and I'll definitely be back! I had the squeeze burger; which is a burger with jalapeños, melted cheese, grilled onions, lettuce, and tomato. I also has a bowl of their lasagna soup and onion rings. It was $10 for the meal. The burger was delicious and cooked to perfection! I've never heard of lasagna soup before but the waitress recommended it and I was not disappointed! Who knew that you could make lasagna in a soup form?? I want this recipe!!! The service and the food were great! Also nice that more than one person came by to help us. This was going to be 4 stars, but the service was so extremely slow. I visited on a Friday early afternoon. They were not very busy. I saw 3 servers to 6 tables. My server enjoyed talking to her other table and only checked on us occasionally. After sitting there with the check for at least 5 minutes (probably more like 10). I got tired of trying to get her attention and finally went up to the register. (The check and her both stated that they would take care of it at the table.) Food wise the giant pretzel was mostly good. There was about 2 inches worth that was cracker-like and too hard to eat. The "queso" cheese was canned nacho cheese not even heated. The honey-mustard was American mustard mixed with honey. We asked for beer cheese which was OK (unfortunately it was only one condiment container and we couldn't find our waitress to ask for more). My hamburger was cooked perfectly. The onion rings were good. It took a long time to get our food and no one told us why. read more

I ordered the Guacamole Burger, on the recommendation of my server, and I got the potato soup. The potato soup was extremely salty (as if that's an easy thing to do). I ordered the burger medium, and it came out extra well with no flavor. To counter the flavorless patty they topped it with a generous dollop of the worst and saltiest Guac I've ever had. We were in Lowell for a business meeting and asked for a recommendation for a casual lunch place. Based on this recommendation we went to George's. Upon arriving I was impressed with the remodeled Denny's decor. There was a nice crowd eating there including a couple of local Sherriffs (their cars were in the parking lot with the engines running) so I thought it couldn't be that bad. Well, I was wrong. It's obvious that everyone was there because the better restaurant down the street does not open until 11:30 and they had someplace to be and couldn't wait. Soups were heavy cream based (Lemon Chicken Rice Soup tasted like PLEDGE and the Cheesy Vegetable was Veg-All in cheese glop). The BLT was soggy cheap bacon with wilted lettuce and hard tomatoes. My tenderloin was a pre-pressed patty that did not taste all that bad but was nothing special. I'm glad that the locals are able to keep George's in business but they should put up a billboard warning travelers that there are better places down the street. I do not say this often but their is a reason for fast food places and this place makes them all look good. read more

We are new to Lowell and needed a new breakfast spot so we went to George's down the road. They have a very large menu with some really creative options. While the service isn't outstanding, the food has always been consistent each time we have eaten here. The breakfast tacos are my favorite so far, but I really want to try the crepes. The portions are huge and the guacamole on the breakfast tacos is delicious! Their sweet tea is great. Definitely a trusty breakfast spot. read more

I like the new updated menu! I I had the Fit N Trim breakfast. I enjoyed the multigrain hot cakes. Usually I avoid fruit cups at restaurants because they are heavy on cantaloupe, but this was a good mix and our server left out the cantaloupe. I also got a bowl of lemon rice to import back to Indy. (The only Indy lemon rice that holds a candle to the NWI lemon rice soup is at City Market) Our server was also fantastic.
