He started talking to the couple sitting next to him, and they both shared their disappointment about the guy working in the kitchen. At that point I knew we made a mistake. What we ordered: Cheeseburger soup was terribly thick and tasted like bbq sauce. Mushroom burger was dry with canned mushroom. Trout was good. Baby carrots were good but cold. I have been coming to George's for breakfast when in town since before I could walk. The service has always been great. The food is good, hot and reasonably-priced. We love it there. I also appreciate that they have never modernized to this cold/empty look that so many have. It's nostalgic and you can tell it's family-owned. My mother had a medical episode there on Saturday and the staff was very concerned/caring. I wish I knew our waitresses name but she was outstanding even prior to the medical episode. Let me start by saying breakfast here has always been excellent and a good value. Their prices have recently increased, but that's now the norm. What ticks me off is the additional $1.00 per egg. Eggs have doubled in price inthe supermarket from $0.33 per egg to $0.66, or $0.33. So why are they charging another $1.00 per egg. A 300% increase for eggs that have only doubled in price. Step back in time at this family restaurant. Simple meals with very good prices. Daily specials, soups, lots of American fare. I got the pork special which came with stuffing and gravy and two sides, and I got baked potato and a side salad. My husband got a burger and fries, not the waffle fries, but they're seasoned fries. The other couple we were with got the salmon cake special, which he liked, and said, tasted like crabcake and was good. And she got the stewed tomatoes, corn fritters and chicken fingers. My husband and I had lunch here today. I ordered turkey club my husband ordered Blt club. My husband said his club was good. The turkey club I had the toast was NOT toasted properly. Mayo was a tiny blob on the toast/ bread. Turkey was sliced very thin and way too much. The turkey was falling out of the club. Our server Kristina never asked what bread we wanted for our clubs. Looking around the restaurant I saw a lot of dust accumulation on the ceiling tiles. Very dirty emergency lights also! Finger prints and dirt on both sets of entrance doors.! The menus need to be replaced! They were very dirty around the outside! I didn't want to touch it! I'm glad I couldn't see the kitchen area! Didn't use the restroom either. Good flavor but kinda small. Ok I know I have gotten spoiled with good burgers. I ordered a patty melt today. Was surprised when I opened the grilled rye to find a hamburger paddy as thin as a White Castle burger and nut much bigger. I asked the server. She said they are supposed to be 1/4 lb but never weighed them. Pretty sad that a restaurant other than fast food would only give you a 1/4 lb burger. Fries were actually good and the waitress was very nice. Which is why I give 3 stars. I love it when hubby offers to treat me to breakfast, it's the one meal out that I refuse to treat myself to so it's always welcomed. This experience however left me wishing I would have just ate at home. Located in a shopping center we certainly didn't expect it to be so busy on a brisk, extremely cold Saturday morning. Once inside it was evident that cater to a more geriatric crowd. We waited a good 5 minutes standing awkwardly inside the crowded front area for someone to acknowledge and seat us. The check out line is also there so it's hard to distinguish between who is coming and leaving. First sign that maybe this wasn't going to be the best experience. I also thought it was a big gaudy to still have Christmas lights and decor in full light up mode in the middle of January but that's a pet peeve of mine. They also had a small table taking up space at the entrance where they tried to peddle handmade ( like Pinterest crafts gone wrong) items. I felt that wasn't needed and a poor use of that space. Once seated we were happy with the menu prices and choices. The prices were very fair and the restaurant appeared clean. Our waitress was nice and even helped hubby with his cellphone. Our meals came out faster than it took for us to be acknowledged and seated. From the looks of our orders; french toast and pancakes, we thought we would be happy with our meals. How can you mess those breakfast basics up? Well apparently you can. Hubby said his pancakes tasted like cardboard. My french toast was made of Texas toast and had nice crispy edges however it was the flavor of bland bread. I believe it was cooked in egg and milk only. There wasn't any sweetness whatsoever, nor any hit of vanilla or cinnamon. I smothered it in peanut butter and syrup to try to add flavor however the syrup was watered down to the point that it also didn't even have a hint of sweetness and was lacking the stickiness that syrup has. Hubby said the same thing. There is no way that syrup wasn't watered down. We're convinced of it. I don't know if they make their food so bland intentionally to cater to the older folks with dietary restrictions but I don't know why anyone young or old would pay for food with no flavor. it's a shame too because my french toast, other than lacking flavor, was cooked perfectly. Hubby's pancakes were a nice size. When we were done hubby went to pay, waiting in that long cashier line while I couldn't wait to escape to the car. If cashiering takes up that much time and space why not just collect at the table like normal restaurants do? Needless to say we won't be back, ever. read more

When my parents first got their coffee the waitress spilled 1/4 of the coffee on the table. I ordered mozzarella sticks and they came with meaty sauce. My parents food was wrong and finally when the right food came out they said that they didn't have shredded hash browns (the whole reason we went here) but it's fine. The potatoes were cold. Have gone here for breakfast a few times and it was ok. Had a coupon so I went there with my sister and her husband. They ordered the pork and sauerkraut. Almost no pork and what there was was of poor quality. I had chicken and broccoli. It was luke warm and at best average. They redecorated the place but the money would have been better spent on food and cooking lessons. The waitress was very apologetic, but explained it was under new ownership. If that was the case the new owner would have done better going into plumbing or waste management instead of the food industry. read more

Great spot for a diner style breakfast, lunch or dinner. Prices are reasonable for a nice size serving. This is good homestyle cooking, nothing fancy. Service was very friendly and fast. Extra star for bringing a personal pot of coffee to leave on the table, no extra charge. Love that. I order my toast dry and ask for real butter on the side. Otherwise they use a margarine spread. Decor could use an update. Would love to see them go old school 1940's style. read more

The waiters and waitresses are quick to see if a cup is empty and also quick to clear it out and replace it. The only thing is they don't have free refills for their amazing hot chocolate but I would pay the price for a cup of that creamy goodness. So I used to like this place...but now...I don't think I will return. I had the stuffed chicken breast special today...and fries and baked corn. Also a bowl of chicken rice soup. Soup and fries were awesome....the rest of meal was not. Chicken was very dry and difficult to chew. And the filling inside was almost cold. Same with the baked corn...almost cold. I did say something to the server and she just said she won't recommend that dish to others. This has happened to me before there with getting served lukewarm food. They must have steam table issue with keeping food hot. Cashier didn't really seem to care either when she asked me how was everything...I told her and she just chuckled. I only suffered thru this meal as I had a coupon from clipper magazine to use. I've had some pretty good meals here...but the last two have been poor. So I will just stick to Willow Street Restaurant...I've never been disappointed there...oh the coffee was good...they have French vanilla creamers for it which I did enjoy...just very disappointed as it's convenient to me but I think I'm done...so sad they didn't really care I had a poor experience read more

Was just here for breakfast with my husband. We used to frequent this diner regularly when we lived in the area, since we have moved - not so much. Today proved to us that we will not be returning any time soon. The wait staff was very friendly and prompt, but it took almost 5 minutes to seat us, leaving us standing in a very crowded lobby with little room. Our breakfasts were - subpar. The hasbrowns weren't even cooked. People can get sick from eating raw potatoes and there was literally 0 color on these hasbrowns. They looked as though they were thrown on a griddle for 40 seconds to thaw and a tough but mushy texture. Being pregnant, i chose to skip my hash browns. This place used to be nice - and the potatoes used to be real cut and thick, more like home fries. What happened? read more

Fathers Day is always nice to spend with 2 crying hungry daughters. I guess I made a mistake, Willow Street Diner looked like there was a longer than average wait, I thought "you know what I'll go to George's, their food isn't nearly as good as Willow Street Diner but I think they are capable of delivering food to our table in under and hour and a half?" So an hour and a half later with zero food in sight after watching people who came in after us eat and leave, my daughters kept asking me with teary eyes "when is our food coming?" This is a good ole fashioned family restaurant that is DIRT cheap (minus the dirt - really this place is so clean with super friendly staff) Sure, you'll be surrounded by the 65+ crowd, but who doesn't like some home cooking at a good price? It sure beats the Willow Street diner across the street! The best place to get a $2.50 bangin Grilled Cheese sandwich, chips and pickle. Grilled cheese isn't the only good thing on the menu either. They have the best air fried chicken- I think that's what the waitress called it. I strongly recommend it. Onion rings were great too, so sweet and crispy I wish I saved them to eat as dessert. I used to grab breakfast here every-once-in-a-while years ago and stopped going because the food was so bland and poorly prepared. The toast was always chewy, the coffee REALLY upset my stomach, the pancakes were a bit rubbery. For whatever reason, I decided to give it a try again after 7 or 8 years. The food is STILL horrible. We have been dining at this diner for a few years now. We usually enjoy it, however the past couple of times have been very disappointing. The food took a very long time, I ordered salad with extra croutons. It came with my meal and no croutons. Supposed to have bread with my meal, I had to ask for it. My husband ordered a ham and cheese omelette, it came without ham. When we were ready to leave we had to wait for our waitress to get off her phone before she brought our check. My husband and I dine out quite a bit. We like to try different places and we like diners. Unfortunately we have decided we won't be going back there. read more

POOR DINING ROOM We've been eating here for years. The food is good, especially the breakfast, and the staff is great. We have one big complaint that might not be a big deal for some, but still unmistakable - the condition of the dining area has become downright poor. The carpet is totally beat up with stains upon stains from years (decades?) of wear, seats are ripped and caving in, the lighting is dim, ceiling tiles are covered with what looks like years of dust and grime. Overall it just looks dated and dirty, and as you're sitting there looking around, you just can't help but notice how bad it is. A remodel from top to bottom is LONG overdue!!! Yes the food and service is good here but some emphasis on decor and atmosphere could go a long way. We'd go here much more often if it was fixed up a bit. read more

Come support a traditional diner. Not much to look at-- it's at the end of a strip mall -- but you'll get some good American - style food and service. For passers by, it is worth a scenic side trip from the highway. The Lancaster area is very scenic and the 35 mph speed limit will snap you out of the 75 mph highway zombie mode. read more

She asked another table, who had a complaint. I didn't have a chance to say anything since she waited until giving us our bill to come over again. This is a great straightforward diner with a nice large pie menu. We came here after a disastrous meal at Maison just for dessert. Service was warm and friendly. Menu was quite large. And food is very reasonably priced. We had the hot fudge sundae and the fresh strawberry pie. This was the highlight of our otherwise awful evening.
